      niro,
………but, GoRa was no show and most shockingly, a majority of news outlets refrained from directly mentioning the obvious absence! If GoRa manage to win this election by even a very remote chance, I’ill guarantee that the the newly born “American system” will be dead before opening its eyes!

why rajaakshes camp seem to be that greedy at power gaining tactics ? people should be very clear that over 80% close to Rajapakshe family are alleged criminals. Most of them have at least one crime investigation currently being heard in the courts. some of them were in jails at least for few months. Most of these alleged high criminals would be supportive to Rajakshes and mislead the poor folks in this country and try to coerce their votes. tihs is illegal, but former culprits would never respect human rights. Entire world was clear that they are barbarians rather than ones work for the people. thanks to current govt, the picture turned to be better since 2015 and the country earned that much respect. Tourists arrivals grew up exponentially since then. ; ALL THESE now would reverse if barbarians would grab the power again.

Why “Gota” and Kodithuwakku did not participate? In the end there was a “Declaration” made up of several “PLEDGES” to be signed by the “Contenders”. There were ONLY THREE remaining to sign that “Pledge”. What happened? The compere, announced that ALL participants of the First Round have LEFT the event. But of them there was ONE lady participant. Should , we consider such participants who cannot even wait for the end of the event to be our “FIRST CITIZEN”? NO, NOT AT ALL. So, let them be “Also Ran” candidates. The two main stream participants were well prepared and made the opportunity given to each one’s benefit. My observation – Of the two, Sajith failed to chose the correct words in spelling out the Policies and Action Plan, in that, he always said: “Has to be done”, ( in Sinhala- Kara Uthui) In comparison, AKD selected the words: “We assure you, we will do it” (in Sinhala- Api Karanawa, Sahathikai). In the end Sajith took a chance to say: “We will even enlist Anura Kumar’s help to build the country”. Now, the opponents like Wimal Weerawanse & Udaya Gammanpila will try to make use of that reference against AKD and confirm “Rathu Ali Pitiya” (Red Baby Elephant) term. The “Audience” was well behaved and interested and keen to know what was lined up. That is a very good and encouraging sign. A very GOOD attempt and a very commendable step towards meaningful elections in the future. Let the PEOPLE send a very strong message at the election to all those who DID NOT ATTEND and to all those who LEFT the event without waiting for the end to sign that PLEDGE.

Thanks for that account, Douglas. I’m sorry I missed it. Rational thing would have been to see on T.V., but I didn’t. Shall catch up, of course. Six comments on display including D.P.’s duplicate.

I think Sajith was more relaxed and edged out Anura with salute
to the voters . Technically Anura was sharper but Sajith managed
to be friendlier which can travel a long way with votes !
Senanayaka is in the race to steal Gota’s share , it was on his face .
Well , there are many for socialism ! At the end , it could be Tamils
    who decides the winner !

niro,”………but, GoRa was no show ” that is highly insensitive of you. The man has a heart problem. That is why the media is so soft on him. No embarrassing questions.

As to who was/were absent matters most.
By the way, Gnanasara Thera was absent but he may outwit and outsmart Udaya Gamanpilla, Weerawansa ilk!

This time most screwed up is the Open society aka civil society. So,what will happen to them if they can not hang on to any presidential candidate. will they lose the MCC – sponsorships and grants ?
What did Maithripala Sirisena say. Will he agree to sign the MCC-Compact,SOFA-VFA and expanded ACSA.
Who will start the Hong kong Drama in Sri lanka ?

Having seen it all, it was great that all participants were required to be polite and observe the rules. Questions like why wasn’t everybody there have been raised. Subject to all that, it was a good start.
    .
Let’s hope that the same decorum prevails after we have the full list of nominees for the Presidency.

Sinhala_ Man: Thanks. I think it is now available in Ytube.. I saw it live. Interesting to see it. It was not a “Debate” as we are used to in Western countries or in Amricas.; but good beginning. Will meet later.

Is this something to do with UNP & others trying to form consensus (coalition) with JVP (yet again)? No way! No more perks from the Kleptocrats!

The American Gota was invited to this platform but he was hiding under the bed. He cannot face these questions because his heart is weak.

    devadatta ,

Gota’s absence was , I believe for a different reason ! The second
round was question and answer while the first one was a speech
to which Gota belonged it seems ! There was a clean partition line
between the Amateurs and veterans in politics ! If this was the
case , Gota was careful to avoid being in the Amateur’s club .

Some of the contestants are contesting the Presidential Election only at the instigations of either Gota or Sajith P. The voting public should not waste their votes on these contestants.
