Presidential Secretariat Expenses Had Reached An All-Time High In 2014!

Figures revealed regarding the annual expenses of the Presidential Secretariat during the Rajapaksa regime reveals that it had reached an all-time high last year.

Mahinda RMFinance Minister Ravi Karunanayake during the 2015 interim budget reading last afternoon revealed that the annual expenses of the Presidential Secretariat which was at Rs. 6,340 million in 2009 had been escalated to an all-time high of Rs. 104,970 million in 2014.

According to the figures released by Minister Karunanayake, the expenses are as follows:
2009 – Rs.     6,340 million
2010 – Rs.     7,650 million
2011 – Rs.   50,630 million
2012 – Rs.   59,360 million
2013 – Rs.   82,440 million
2014 – Rs. 104,970 million

He also said the estimated cost for the Presidential Secretariat had been calculated to be Rs. 95,930 million but added it has been cut down to Rs. 2560 million under the instructions of President Sirisena.

It is no surprise that the expenses would rise to such exorbitant amounts, as it has been revealed that the fleet of vehicles owned by the Secretariat had been 749. About 80 of them have been discovered by the Police in several locations and investigations have commenced into 65 of them.

RE: Presidential Secretariat Expenses Had Reached An All-Time High In 2014!

It is not only Presidential expenses, the National Debt is at

“We have to bear the burden of all the loans taken by the previous administration. Total debt of the country is over Rs. 8800 billion,” Karunanayake told parliament.

That is US $ 67 Billion.

Thank you Medamulana Mahinda Rajapaksa (MaRa)

    2009 – Rs. 6340 million – Correct
    2010 – Rs. 7650 million – Correct
    2011 – Rs. 50,630 million – Incorrect
    2012 – Rs. 59,360 million – Incorrect
    2013 – Rs. 8,2440 million – Incorrect
    2014 – Rs. 10,4970 million – Incorrect

It appears 2009 and 2010 numbers are correct and rest of the numbers are incorrect. I guess the 2014 numbers 10.497 Billion

      More precisely, the expenditure for 2013 is;

      Recurrent Expenditure – LKR 4,490,565,000
      Capital Expenditure – LKR 3,734,413,000
      Total – LKR 8,224,978,000

That means 8,224 Million and not 82,440 million

      Same way for 2014 – Revised Estimate;

      Recurrent Expenditure – LKR 4,805,570,000
      Capital Expenditure – LKR 5,691,533,000
      Total – LKR 10,497,103,000

That means 10,497 million and not 104,970 million

      Lets get the FACTS correct

Anyway summa, why do we want 8 to 10 billion rupees to have a president. If we did not have a president the country would have saved 8000 million rupees.can you see in the current budget of ravi what would cover 8000 million rupees of relief measures he has given the people. It is a shame to spend so extravagantly when on a president when most of the revenue is collected through the value added system.Even a dirt poor person has to pay this when buying essential items. No wonder the people were grumbling a lot over the cost of living when all the taxes are added to the goods.

The article has a typo. It first mentions the 2014 Presidential Sec. expenditure as ” 104,970 million “. The table says “10,4970 million”.

After seeing the figure for 2009 and 2010, it must be 10,497 million for 2014. The zero after the 7 is a typo, because if not you would expect to see a comma between the 7 and the 0.

So it is 10.497 billion. It is less confusing to use a decimal point (like Americans do) than a comma (which is more popular in Europe).

It comes to almost $80 million for 2014.

Are there other expenses for Mahinda that does not come under the Presidential Secretariat?

There is no uniform measure of costs and it is very difficult to comprehend these figures for ordinary guys like me who failed in arithmetic at school. There is ‘laksha’, ‘miliyana’, ‘biliyana’, ‘koti’ (not Tamil koti). And for good measure we also have ‘rupiyal’ and ‘dollar’. Now that MR is out of the way and hence there being no need for Ruiyal kotis, shall we get rid of all these different units and have a uniform measure such a miliyana?

MS can go down in history as the leader who got rid of Rupiyal Kotis and MR as the one who got rid of Tamil kotis.

It is almost 2.6% of MR’s budget.

We Sri Lankan should thanks to CBK, RW and the team for kick-out MR.

Really, it is stupendous amount of expenses for MR, cut-off from MR budget to 2.6% is clearly showing us MS will never go for lavish life style and jaunt travelling around the world with entourage.

MaRa might have thought that these all funds are of his father’s or Shiranthi’s dowery. What if he won? I cant even imagine. I wonder how fools and racist who voted MaRa in the Jan 8th election. His three sons are even not capable for peon job but wasted public funds for luxury life, rugby, brothel and all other nonsence. How many babies his three sons would have produced if they didnt use any contraceptives.

MR risked his life and that of his close family to save the Sinhala Buddhists from total annihilation. So why should he not be compensated for all that? Consider this as the benefit he got for his good karma.

The President’s Fund is never mentioned in budgets and is never audited.
This was used to give handouts to faithful henchmen – where did Duminda Silva get funds for his Singapore “treatment”?
Many more handouts for medical treatment abroad were given – when they could have been treated in sri lanka.
There is a Parliamentary Pensions Department which is also never mentioned in budgets. Why is the question.
I hope that the new president will bare all expenses under his office administration.

The Chief Administrative Officer – Lalith Weeratunga – is the Public
Officer whom JVP must complaint against, as he is privy to all the
mis-doings at the Presidential Palace. He is the one who was called
the culprit in wrong accounting even in Helping Hambabtota debacle.

Good point, indeed. Although he had to go along during the period of MR, but he is expected to spill beans going by his obligation of being a public officer.

Though Mahinda Rajavassa eradicated LTTE thanks to Sarath Fonseka, the destruction caused to sri lanka is immense. I have never seen law was detiorated to such a low level that VVP VIPS were driving vehicles without number plates. political revenge, destroying the opposition or anyone who talkas against the rajavassa family, family nepotism, irresponsible financial handlings, stealing, encouraging drug dealers, pedophiles, rapists, murderers, if he had won that would ve been end of sri lanka. Already there was no law for the rajavassas family and its close associates. he is another prabakaran and unfortunately our sinhalese bastard who voted for these rajavassas has a IQ of -1000. Do not only vote for person becuase that person did one thing and destroyed millions of things. That should be the lesson for ALL SRI LANKANS.

These crooks have fleeced this country, in every possible way. From Carlton School to luxury trips abroad, from expensive cars to millions in commissions, these scoundrels have played us out, and have walked away with ill gotten gains. This is also the result of nepotism, cronyism, and arrogance. The Rajapaksas thought they were entitled to everything, because after all he won the war, and we owed him. The three spoilt brats also went to down, taking advantage of their father’s position, to”pass” exams, captain rugby teams, and most of all steal the people’s money, for their lavish lifestyle, fast cars, and designer clothing, that they bragged about.
How much of land have they stolen? Can the new government be able to track the money, and get back what was stolen from us? It is sickening to feel that those in power have been able to get away with even murder.
The Rajapaksas and their cronies have played us out big time, and deserve to be thrown in jail for a long time.
