President’s Daughter Addresses Old Royalists

Madam Chathurika Sirisena, daughter of President Maithripala Sirisena, having recently returned to the public sphere with a kite-flying exercise, addressed a gathering of past students of Royal College, Polonnaruwa on the 18th of October 2015.

ChaturikaThis appearance follows a cautious participation in a kite-flying event on 11th of October 2015. Subsequently on the following day President Maithripala Sirisena’s daughter Chathu was invited by Ranavali Balika Vidyalaya in Gampaha, as the chief guest where the girl’s school celebrated World Teachers and World Children’s day.

Sirisena recently caused embarrassment to her presidential father by arrogating some of his powers on herself, covering herself with officialdom by getting government servants to accompany her on a ‘fact-finding mission’ in remote parts of the country. So far there has been complete silence from the President on the arrogant behavior of his daughter. In fact the President went on to include his son Daham Sirisena in the official Sri Lankan delegation to the UN General Assembly in New York.

Why don’t you get off her? She can’t even fly a kite in peace without you taking pictures. She was at her old school prize-giving. She was only addressing old Royalists at Polonnaruwa. Do they count for much? You must not get too petty. (one query, do you have to be Kandyan to wear the saree the way she does? )

We guys can read between the lines! She did not pretend that she had links with Royal College, Rajakeeya Mawatha, Colombo 7 (a school which somebody once wanted re-named “Kannangara Maha Vidyalaya”).

There was a certain guy, who when he was a powerful Minister, got his THREE legitimate sons admitted to my alma mater. It looks as though the second fellow, Rohitha by name, got an older school-mate, Wasim Thajudeen murdered; but then, I may yet be charged with libel since that hasn’t been proved in a court of law. I’m rather hazy about dates, a congenital condition: was Mohan Peiris the Chief Justice or the Attorney General at the time?

Notwithstanding that congenital condition, I can, as already stated (Oh dear! my English teacher must be turning in his grave at all this redundancy), I can read between the lines.

I have come to the conclusion that young Chathuri Sirisena is an admirable young woman; if I added that she is also lovable, and even kissable, would that prove me to have been a born lecher?

Could somebody please answer that last question for me, please?

I don’t want to burn in the fires of hell! An old friend, twenty years older than me at that, has just suggested that I leave behind instructions that my epitaph should be: “Here lies the Man who perished in his attempts to reform the Anglican Church.”

Now, that is what my Professor used to call a non-sequitur.

Native, I like your style, man!! Agree that she is kissable. But don’t try. Thank God she was in limbo prior to Jan. 2015!!

At the same time, she may become a leader like Mrs. B, CBK, Thatcher or Golda Meier. Lets wait and see. Hopefully, she will read about these leaders and get the best. God knows, we NEED good LEADERS, not politicians.

Sinhala_Man should also know that the three sons had two uncles who were well known College boarders and ruggerites.

I am sure that counted towards their admission to college, more than the relatively minor ministerial post held by the father at that time.

Was one of the uncles the Sri Lankan Airlines lecher? And who on earth admitted that guy to the College: must have been the time Rajan Hoole and I were in College.

I’ve already made a passing reference to the plight of the Anglican Church.

Probably the same types who admitted a former Prime Minister to a rival school. The former Prime Minister, was a well known lecher and a son of a convicted murderer who hanged himself before he committed suicide.

People quickly forget the past. Power corrupts regardless of which strata of society. Money, Power and Sex the eternal compatriots.

Help! I can’t identify this “former Prime Minister”.

During the Jarapaksha regime so many of the Prime Ministers were such non-entities that many did not know who the Prime Minister was even when the guys were in office!

John Kotelawala (known as John Kotelawala Snr ) (4 November 1864 – 20 April 1907) was a Ceylonese police officer and businessmen. He was known for the murder of Francis Dixon Attygalle (Brother in Law), which became the first sensational murder trial in Ceylon. His son General Sir John Kotelawala was the 3rd Prime Minister of Ceylon.

Kotelawala committed suicide before he was executed. He was also the President of the Carters Association of Colombo, following his death, the carters stormed the houses of the prosecutors, Acting Attorney General Walter Pereira, KC and Crown Counsel C. M. Fernando.

                  Dear sbarrkum,

Many thanks for the information. I don’t think that the shocking facts you have given are well known. I’ve always had my reservations about military personnel, so Sir John was never a great hero of mine.

However, that is what he is to all too many Sinhalese; he is the ideal leader – of a “hamuda aanduwa” – who would brook no nonsense. To guys like me, he was the “Bandung Booruwa” – rich and ignorant.

More objectively: I have to constantly ask members of the Anglicised Upper Middle Class not to blame SWRD B for all our post-independence ills. “Swabasha” had to be given its rightful place. Few have any idea as to what poor education was dished out by the “vernacular schools”, although what it meant was that, bereft of unrealistic aspirations, the poor remained people content to live on the land, and close to nature.

Of course, Banda, the intellectual, realised well enough that although reviving Sinhala nationalism was in keeping with trends sweeping through countries which had shaken off the shackles of colonialism, and that, in his case, he was using it as the fast track to gaining personal power. But then, had “The Father of the Nation” not practised nepotism, Banda was the man to lead the Party in power – whatever it may have been called. Instead, the very decent Dudley (who later had “masala vadai” in his stomach) became Prime Minister, after the Old Man famously fell from his horse. Let us not forget, in this context, to condemn those who disfranchised the “Estate Tamils”.

Leading up to the 1956 Elections, Sir John and Banda were competing for the Sinhalese vote, by each promising to usher in Sinhala faster than the other. Sir John had little credibility, having taken up the cause so late, and so Banda won – and then tried to give Tamil a place with the signing of his pact with classmate S.J.V. Chelvanayakam. That was scuttled owing to J.R.J. undertaking his “March to Kandy”. And during that period, the otherwise admirable LSSP imagined that the way usher in socialism was to destabilise Banda’s government.

Good “sbarrkum”, I don’t have your scholarly knowledge of History, but tell me, is this not a more accurate account of the politics of the times than guys like Jackson Anthony tried to make us swallow?

I wish we hadn’t thought it necessary to kick the English language out of all the places it was used in (although that isn’t as simple a conclusion to come to as it at first glance appears – given the fact that the “Kaduwa” is still a very real weapon wielded by us).

However, to return to the subject of this blog: one wishes that sweet Chathu Sirisena can eternally be the same as she now is. Such things are not possible. As Keats would have said, “Fled are those dreams: do I wake or sleep?”

It is the nature of today folks- if anyone would say something, … wihtout studying the issues, they would join to follow it. This nature is common to lankens as no other folks.

ALone the issue that Chatu S addresses old royalists – has become a media issue for no reason. Not former presidents offsprings, but offsprings of current day presidents are being attacked by everyone but for no reasons. They are decent ones, that I dont think will hurt to anyone, but the society is so cruel left by mr Megalos.. will go on attacking anyone.

As a Srilanken she should also have all rights to exercise what she thinks is right. This has nothing to do with Nepotism. If only her actions would end up as it was the case with Namal baby only we have to attack her. As anyone in the lanken population, she also has her rights to work on her future. It she like to become a politician, why not. Chelsy Clinton did not want… CBK s daughter did not want, but that means not that everyone should be like them.

Chelsea Clinton does not want to be in politics now. She will if Hillary does not win the Presidency in 2016. It is most likely that Hillary will not. When Chelsea enters politics US will have the first woman President. What a joyous day that would be.

It is difficult to comprehend your enthusiam for Chelsea C.. She has not attained anything of significance on her own. She was born to a most influential family and her life was a ball. Three years spent at Stanford was a loss, as she could not hack it as a medical student and left. A well paid job at an Investment Bank fell into her lap, deserved or not, which she did for a few years. A political marriage ensued, and she became a mother. She had joined her mother in the very lucrative circuit giving speeches of questionable value to people who have independently achieved far more than she ever could.

How is she different from, say, Namal Rajapakse ?

I am not a teacher at a School for the Deaf & Blind. Nevertheless, I will try with someone blind by choice.

Chelsea received her first degree at Stanford. Later she earned her master’s degrees (plural!) from Oxford University and from Columbia University’s Mailman School of Public Health. Finally, she received her doctorate, Doctor of Philosophy, at the University of Oxford, in 2014.

And, for your info, none of these was doctored!

    Well this is Sri Lanka.

Most politicians and their children including My3 and his children do not really understand what nepotism is.

Making matters worse is our ‘wakutuweyang’ society where we have been brainwashed from our youngest days to worship anybody and everybody in authority. It is but a natural progression of the ‘wakutuweyang’ culture that we will next worship those that are alligned to authority. It is Chaturika’s turn to bask in the sunshine that this ‘wakutuweyang’ society without fail bestows on children of politicians.

      Good one !!

On the pretext that they don’t understand what Nepotism is, they do it.

It will be the same when Corruption comes-a-calling. “Yahapalanaya does not know what corruption is. So what we are doing cannot conceivably be corruption”

Lengthy dissertations and wisdom ridden comments on the President’s daughter or son will take the country nowhere.

    Clear discussions on:
    Budget 2016,
    Macro-Economic policies,
    Securing WB,IMF & ADB loan,
    Far reaching Devolution,
    Megalapolis on the fast track,
    Pulverizing environmentalists,and
Divesting the North of military presence,

Will take the economy and the people far and fast.

    • 2
      1

Barathan, why do you want to “pulverize environmentalists”?

Are you some kind of hate-monger of those who are concerned about environmental degradation?

Idiots like you need to be put away for the benefit of us all.

      • 4
        1

        Come, come, “Nature Lover”.

“Barathan” is an idiot on only one score, sensible about six other things. Can’t we please excuse him on those grounds.

Contrast that with these guys who have suffered Permanent Head Damage: (i.e. PhD): Dayan Jayatilleke, G. L. Peiris, Rajeeva Wijesinha and Gunadasa Amarasekera.

Of course there are other guys about whose heads there are numerous complaints which, I feel, are quite misplaced: Drs (is that how you address a guy who has TWO PhDs, G.L.P. falls in to the same category,) Drs Vickremabahu Karunaratne, Rajan Hoole, Arjuna Parakrama, Noam Chomsky, Prince Zeid etc.

        Nature Lover

In the last three decades and more what has been the positive and proactive contribution of environmentalists to the environment?

They have certainly been front line warriors to sabotage economically important and socially relevant development projects. Their vitriol is directed particularly to hydro power, irrigation, agricultural, industrial, tourism and city redevelopment projects.

Dr. Mahathir Mohamed former PM Malaysia, tore the mask off these counterfeits, pushed the Lovers into the drain and went ahead for the nation’s progress. This was his treatment of ‘Name Callers’ and ‘Nature Romantics’.

        • 2
          1

          Bharathan

It is pprecisely becuase of ‘thinkers’ like you that Environmentalists around the world have not been able to affect the effects of Global Warming and other serious global catastrophies. The purveyors of misguided ‘development’, mostly for the immediate monetary benefits they will gain, without any longterm planning are the ones to be blamed.

Don’t shoot the messenger, go to the source of the problem!

Utterly disappointed CT has driven itself completely off the rails. It takes a powerful lot of trying to earn respectability and a lot more to keep it. Very easy of course to lose it.

Cowards are those who become heroes when they know they are safe when howling, hooting and jeering, even if there isn’t a valid reason for such noise. We heard not a hum from these types one year ago.

The President’s family should appoint a secretary who could consult CT before undertaking attending any public function in future.

At least that should shut it up?

  • 10

CT should start writing about what Arjuna Ranathunga is up-to these days instead of concentrating on Chathurika. The news that Arjuna Ranathunga has just appointed his uneducated brother Dammika as the Chairman of Sri Lanka Ports Authority would be much juicier. The only qualification for these brothers being that they belong to a family of thugs. Decades ago this whole family including his dad took a student of Asoka Primary School into their premises and assaulted him mercilessly for no reason. The other qualification is that this family has close connections to Chandrika Kumarathunga. President Sirisena and Ranil Wickramasing are not governing the country. They are just preaching and we do not need any clergy in future.

    • 5

Good idea Daham. The Ranatunga fiasco takes nepotism of the new administration to another level. Instead of charging his brother for ripping off Sri Lanka Cricket, they are giving him a ‘promotion’!!

From what She speaks in public gatherings, one can judge of her easily. She is highly talented person. She addresses all facets of an issue while speakin to anyone. It should be inherited to her by his father. I dont mind current president is coming from a village family, but he is most respectful among the few in the country. Just make a comparison his talks and the ones added by Mahinda until 17th August. Mahindas wording are more or less akin to those of Wimal Buruwanse, or the like men that joined to politics being unable to struggle their lives anymore. Wimal as a man who cornered by every means came from thunmulla junction – that is the reason why him to be called as Thunmulle wimale. THe man and his emotions had been marketed by Mahinda Jarapakshe for their survival. Even today, Wimal has no good talks about anything but paranoic theroies that have no basis. If any westerner would get here for business links, that would be painted by the bugger as westerners make every effort to recolonize the nation. These men have been suffering from incurable sort of inferior complex being unable to get on with Ranil and the TEAM. Basta

As a citizen of Sri Lanka, if I was asked to address a school, I would have done it, it is my right. It is not fair to restrict her rights just because she happens to be the President’s daughter. Of course, if she is misusing her fathers powers (like using government property), then that needs to be exposed but not flying kites and addressing a school.

Please do not compare her to Namal Baby who expected all the old matured ministers/MPs to stand when he arrive.

Good on ya Girl…. You got potential..

Batalanda Ranil hired your daddy to destroy Rajapakasa and his sons, who would have been unbeatable if your Daddy didn’t betray some of the poor Sinhala Buddhist inhabitants.

Batalanda Ranil has three goals ..

He will achieve the first goal soon , with the help of the UN, Diaspora and the West, which is to Destroy Rajapaksas at the Hybrid Courts.

His second and third goals are to give Vellala Sambnadan his Tamil Homeland in the North.

And perpetuate the Elite , Anglican and Vellala rule of the rest of the country and marginalize the great majority ,

Just like in the good old days when Batalanada’s ancestors and Uncles wore tailcoats and tug the forelock in front of old Camerons and Harpers and Solheims.

He was hoping that your Dadda will just fade away to pastures even before his full term ends.

But all indications are your Dadda is not as darf as Batalanada’s mates thought.

And it even put Batalanada’s spiritual leader in a Singapore hospital.

I don’t think your brother is not much chop. But you got it ..

Already you look like a mini Sirima.

Keep a low profile and help the Dalits . And you may make it.
