Ex-Defense Secretary Hemasiri Fernando and suspended IGP Pujith Jayasundara checked into the Cardiac unit of the Colombo National Hospital and the Police Hospital this morning, after details of the Attorney General’s manic witch hunt to arrest them was issued to the media. The duo have however been arrested at the two hospitals a short while ago by the CID.
Pujith and Hemasiri are now charged with murder and named as suspects of the Easter bombings and if convicted, could face death penalty and up to 52 years in jail as a result of the charges brought against them.
Sirisena lackey AG Dappula De Livera wrote to Acting IGP instructing him to name suspended IGP Pujith Jayasundara and former Defense Secretary Hemasiri Fernando, as suspects in the Easter Sunday attacks – for the resultant loss of lives and property damage.
According to Attorney General’s coordinating officer State Counsel Nishara Jayaratne, Dappula initially conveyed these instructions to the Acting IGP on Thursday but no action was taken until yesterday.
Dappula’s close associate Jayaratne said the AG has also instructed the Acting IGP to show cause as to why his instructions were not promptly implemented.
In his letter, Dappula had informed the Acting IGP that sufficient evidence is available to charge Pujith and Hemasiri with below provisions of the Penal Code:
296. Punishment for murder.
298. Causing death by negligence.
328. Causing hurt by an act which endangers life or the personal safety of others.
329. Causing grievous hurt by act which endangers life or the personal safety of others.

The police do not do any civil work and sleep on all complaints and that is reason of the disaster the nation faced, and is criminal negligence. I had personal experience of police lethargy. A thief was caught on CCTV camera stealing my sister-in-law’s laptop entering her house in Nallur, Jaffna and taking away the laptop on his motor cycle and the number plate bearing the registration number clearly seen. All this information was submitted to the Jaffna police and nothing has happened. So I can see how duty conscious our police is.
The police is corrupt and politicized top to bottom. They only serve politicians for their survival taking tax payers money.
