Dissolving the parliament means those new MPS that came in 2010 will not get a pension as they havnt completed 5 yeras.

Any chance of My3 to get the helm of the old SLFP too?

Rajapakshe wouldn’t give a damn about MP’s pensions ! . The reason he is going to dissolve parliament is, he doesn’t want to leave a 2/3 majority in the hands of a new president there by scuttling the 100 day promise made by Maithree to change the constitution.

At this moment of time when Maithripala Sirisena crosses the million vote mark for him and secures a winning margin of 150,000, comes the good news of dissolution. Now a cleansed new Parliament with a 3/4th majority is on its way.

he would be grateful if he can be of help in seeing the national question as an urban solution than sticking to village devilish of the 2 sides – it’s their attitude vengeance etc etc as if we dont think in a different way from the late 60’s after Beatles mania, contraception Bill Gates hippy break through to the PC etc.

The people of the North and East have placed their faith In Maitripala Sirisena.
This is golden opportunity for recociliation between the two communities. Please do not fritter away this golden opportunity like the outgoing President.

Initially the Tamils wanted to get rid of Rajapaksa thus Mithipala Sirisena is going to hold the reins..Reconcilliation does not depend on the Tamils but the Sinhala People. The Military has to go out of North and the private lands returned to the owners for ten to resettle.. And secondly devolution of power to the Tamils in full. In other words power sharing so that all three communities could live peacefully, with dignity and jointly build Sri Lanka. If there is a different attitude from the Sinhala people, then the Tamils have to go on fighting for their rights as Sri Lankan citizens.

I trust Leon would be able to comprehend and support the Tamil’s cause as the they have voted overwhelmingly to Srisena with much hope.

I note that Rajapaksa has done badly among the minority voters. He treated them badly, and they have paid him back. So far it is encouraging, and hopefully MS will continue to lead.

It is time for a change, and time to throw out those who did not serve the people, only themselves.

We need safety and security for all Sri Lankans, corruption eradicated, and no nepotism. In other words,
    a true democracy.

Our Motherland is indeed a blessed country. It has given us another chance to reconcile our inter-community difficulties.

Then it also gave us the same opportunity Post Tsunami, then Post Conflict and now ( probably; the votes are not final yet ) new era.

Will we blow this one too or will we be ” Third time lucky “. I pray for the latter.

Lest we forget, after the battering they have had, Our Tamil Brothers and Sisters have risen to the occasion. They ask for the same thing the Majority community asks, rule of law, good governance, human rights, independent judiciary etc.

Surely we will agree on that.

Could some one explain the following.

    1. This election was only a Presidential Election.
    MR has conceded the defeat.

    2. What has this got to do with the present elected sitting Members of Parliament ?

    3. Does he have the right to dissolve the Parliament.

    4. If by constitutional tights if he can We do not have a Parliament of MP’s.

5 does this mean that Sri Lanka has to call for an election that Maithripala Sirisenan can be the president and Ranil.W the Prime minister?

    6. What if Sisisena’s party looses.

    What does the constitution say?

I do not think Parliament is being dissolved. May be he raised it with the cabinet. But no signs of it.

I do not think there is any impediment for the defeated President to dissolve parliament, because he become a caretaker President and can either dissolve parliament or leave it to his successor to do that after he takes oath of office. It is something that he could discuss with the president elect and act accordingly.

Shirani B is the real chief Justice. The constitution says how Mr. Sirisena should take his oaths as our new President:

“32. (1) The person elected or succeeding to the office of President shall assume office upon taking and subscribing the oath or making and subscribing the affirmation, set out in the Fourth Schedule, in Sri Lanka before the Chief Justice or any other Judge of the Supreme Court.”

I do not think he will take his oaths under the crooked Chief Justice. Whom would he choose?

The leader of the opposition should summon parliament and dismiss Mohan P. and restore C.B. before MY3 takes oaths. I think the idea of dismissing parliament would have crossed MR’s mind as a way to stall and muck up the opposition plans. But he seems to have been persuaded to leave peacefully.

It is sad to see MR leaving the govt. in this fashion as his advisors and his family were the cause of his down fall. He was advised to take to thuggery and intimidation to control the people and pay no heed to minority grievances. He learnt a bitter lesson and let this be an example for future leaders. Mr. Sirisena should ensure all culprits, drug dealers , commission agents and plunderers of state funds should be stopped leaving the country and thoroughly investigated and no mercy shown.
Secondly Tamils in recent times suffered at the hands of the political thugs, like Douglas Devananda, of North and Pillian and Karuna of the East and their militants and they should be arrested and investigated. If Mr. Sirisena does not pay back in the same coin, these culprits will try to squeeze into the party in power under some pretext. It is
a well known fact that Douglas Devananda is already in touch with a high ranking opposition leader trying to join the opposition. The last of all, is to keep the army in barracks in the N/E and let the people move freely in the N/E and NCP to function normally with a civilian governor in place as an initial steps of reconciliation.

There should be a law ,no two persons from the same family shouldn`t be elected or otherwise to parliment or such office in the same period.
No fathers, sons and uncles in the parliment together in the same period !!.

All questions, querries, venom BUT yet I see that Rajapakshe has about 47% backing.
Its still appears to be quite a sizable block.

Hope the opposition Trojans keep to their word.

Lets see Mr. Sirisena ensure all culprits, drug dealers, commission agents and plunderers of state funds be stopped leaving the country and thoroughly investigated and no mercy shown.

MY3 should take oaths in front of Shirani. That will send a message to all.
To clean out the shed MY 3 needs to throw out all the garbage in case there are unforeseen snakes hiding.

Like to see GLP giving a smack on face to that brat, Sajiin Vass G, preferably in the presence of Shenuka, the lady who ran our foreign affairs saying ‘you had been a handful for me all these days’. Jointly, they made mockery of the foreign office, which was once ran by the talented Kathir.

Arujuna won the world cup for us and helped rid of this fraudsters who were trying make a living by spreading fear and suspicion among its people. Looking at a recent photo the other day where he with other MPs/VIPs demanding to open up those rooms in BMICH for suspected illegal vote papers, I thought he stood tall, as he did against Darrel Hair. He is rocking, should be let him run the Sport Ministry so our cricket would be cleaned up also, free from patronage.

Tamils and Muslims have saved the nation again. My3 as the head of state must do justice to the families killed by the past administration.
Lasantha and the students killed in Trincomalle must be smiling from the heaven. Their souls along with countless others will rest only if justice is served, even if that means taking MaRa to Hague.

Do the crime, do the time.

BBS was responsible for the loss of Muslim votes. What was the thinking behind sponsoring and supporting BBS. Was it to ensure that MR gets the 70 % of the Sinhala votes, by alienating the Muslims and the Tamils. Whose bright idea is this. MR, GR and BBS assumed that the Sinhalese were fools which is far from the truth. Sinhalese are not “Modayas” but MR’s clan and the BBS assumes this.
For instance BBS started a campaign to say that a Muslim clothes store served toffees which had drugs for the consumers to loose fertility. Then BBS came out with another story that if you wear undergarments from these shops women and men will loose their fertility!. The posters read as “Wadavai” Imagine uttering such lies and expecting the Sinhalese to believe this. do they think Sinhalese are Modayas. Why were these monks allowed to do carry on this hate campaign.
Why did GR and MR allow the infamous BBS rally at Alutgama despite desperate appeals of the Muslims.
