Ranil Officially Shifts To Damage-Control Gear

Prime Minister and Leader of the United National Party (UNP) Ranil Wickremesinghe admitted today that the results of the local government elections demonstrate that the people have not been in favour of the programme the party has implemented since coming to power.

He made this confession at a meeting held at Temple Trees with several UNP ministers including Housing and Construction Minister Sajith Premadasa, Plantation Industries Minister Navin Dissanayake, Education Minister Akila Viraj Kariyawasam, Minister of Law and Order and Southern Development Sagala Ratnayaka, State Minister of Finance Iran Wickramaratne, Minister of Telecommunication and Digital Infrastructure Harin Fernando, Deputy Minister of Power and Renewable Energy Ajith P Perera and Deputy Minister of National Policy and Economic Affairs Harsha De Silva.

They had also discussed proposals and ideas for a special programme to take the country forward within a short period of time. The group of ministers is to submit to the Prime Minister a report that includes the ideas and proposals discussed.

Wickremesinghe had said that the Government had not lived up to the expectations of the people. He said that he had decided to move ahead by correcting the flaws. He added that under the leadership of the President there would be a cabinet reshuffle, but insisted that attention will be paid to the principles of the government.

Yeah, how about returning all the money, national assets that you robbed from the people in the Bond Scam, as well as the cost of those extravagantly luxurious limousines that you ordered for yourself and all other cronies out of tax payers money. Add more tax burdens on the people for the extravagant life of former vagabond MPs and Ministers, and then find out what more the people think of you and your gang. The problem with you Mr Ranil is that you think that you were born with a silverspoon and the vast majority of the people still live eating kurahan and are untouchables. So wake up and change your ways or if not get ready to be castrated by the voters,

Yeah, how about returning all the money,

No Problem, tell us your current operating Foreign Bank Account; we deposit it there. After Jan 2018, election, we are missing the connection. Is it still Dubai or changed to Swiss or even gone Bellarose or in all?

So wake up and change your ways or if not get ready to be castrated by the voters, We woke up after 2005. Fixed the problem. Von the election. But still scared to accept any Political or Governmental posts. Any Idea of what can be done?

Thrishu don’t wag the tail too much. You looking at a only on a mirror reflection. There is no dog in the missor any more.

“Ranil Officially Shifts To Damage-Control Gear”

Ranil is a creature of habit – never can/will change. ………….. it’s like a new year resolution; just going through the motions ………….for 20 years he had time to change, but the man remains the same

Ranil/UNP PR/propaganda is prehistoric and nonexistent …………..visit any UNP webpage and see ………..and Mahinda PR/propaganda is ultramodern, visit one of their WebPages and observe………..and Ranil is supposed to be the Royal College educated “modern man” ………….while Mahinda is supposed to be the uneducated “Baiyya.”

Soon after the 2015 election Ranil visited Indonesia and out of the glare of the Lankan media gave an interview to an Indonesian TV channel ………. I wrote here then…….no need to wait 5 years, make up your minds now and come to terms with it ……….no one is ever going to be prosecuted for corruption………..it was pretty obvious even then ………Ranil thinks he is too smart ………but time and time again it’s been proven otherwise………….

        continued

For better or for worse, these young UNP MPs do all the hard work, contest and win elections……..and once in power uncontested Ranil’s cronies – like Marapona, Malik, ……..I forget the names of the others – get all the plum positions. ………….It’s no different to Dayan and the wife doing all the hard work/writing here for Mahinda and ……….a eminently suitable tea-merchant gets appointed as the ambassador to the most crucial country …….but gotta hand it to Mahinda …….he had the smarts to spend CB money to hire US PR firms to do his job.

These are politicians we are blessed with ………….still, in the current political context ……….I believe Ranil is the most suitable man for PM ………..observe the way the recent election was conducted and contrast that with elections held under the Rajapakses………..for the country it’s a step in the right direction ………….well, baby, baby baby, steps …..into the modern world……………..

It’s easy for one to write a tale of pristine morals of, high-hanging grapes, when not involved …………. but by some quirk of fate if I become the President/PM …..I’ll pocket half of the EPF and pay Lankan-Air hostess to remain grounded ………..and party with them all night long …………Ah! the human condition!……..J&F where are you when I need you most?

Truth is a hard thang to face ………………..for any man……………

OK, Ranil, you want fast development in a short time? Just ask the Master of election stunts, Medamulana Meeharaka. All you have to do is pray in the direction of Beijing. You will surely win the next elaction with all the dazzling highways, airports and circuses that the baiyas (including Dayan) will love. Of course they won’t notice that you have leased their backsides for 99 years to the Chinese.

What have you got against the Chinese? …………We’ll be eating Chop suey everyday.

      thrishu:
Even after spending millions on the commission they cannot find an indictable offence. Because there ain’t one.
Financial crimes unit is still interviewing people and looking whether it could create one, AG does not want to touch this case but kangaroo justice system has remanded people without bail.
On other cases indictment are brought and cases are filed but the culprits are walking free on bail even flying to other countries to cover their tracks.

So before writing garbage can you say what makes this legal bond transaction a “SCAM” just because the govt presumes it could have more money in hindsight.

There are things that are legal but not ethical…There is a provision under prudent persons rule…. There is clear evidence of attempted insider trading…and that is a serious offence.

Moreover, he should have disclosed conflict of interests.

        • 1
          0

Sri Lankans have a major confusion on illegal and unethical. All illegal acts breaks the law and not all unethical acts break the law or could be charged by a court of law.

“There is a provision under prudent persons rule…”
For this you got to prove that the person was negligent and knew or should have known of the consequence. This is not possible if the bank followed the standard operating practices which was followed at least since 2005.

“There is clear evidence of attempted insider trading”
I don’t think so. Whether a person was successful or not if you attempt insider trading that is a criminal offense. If there was proof of this we would have see an indictment by now.

If there was a questioner that’s a different story. This is not two individuals negotiating but two entities.

Burt I have seen you past writing, and obviously they reveal that either you are Ravi the liars barrack room lawyer or if not a blind, deaf and dumb UNP asslicker. You think you could talk yourself out of your tin gods despciable crime. Very good, you do that and live in your imaginary world where all blacks could be painted white, the la-la land. But you are the only one with your kind and gang of robbers. People out there in the rest of country have already told you what they think of that scum, and your gangleader already admitted, above, his wrong doing. UNP were decimated in the LG election, may be you have yet to wake up, and being blind you cannot see what color flags are flying over 90% of the land under SLPP control.

Dear Prime Minister Ranil Wickramasuinghe and President Maitriplal Sirsena,

“Wickremesinghe had said that the Government had not lived up to the expectations of the people. He said that he had decided to move ahead by correcting the flaws. He added that under the leadership of the President there would be a cabinet reshuffle, but insisted that attention will be paid to the principles of the government.”

Yes, not lived up to the promises and expectation of January 8, 2015. You did not know all these years? Surprise, surprise.

      1. Anyway, start by discarding your black suit and pants, ans replace it with a sarong, a national dress. Let people know that you are politician.

2, Let thew Law and Order takes its own course, without interference, investigate arrest and prosecute the former crooks and current crooks,. They are still at large.

      3. Find your replacement now. Forget about your dreams of becoming President, Have a plan for abolishing the Presidency.

      4. Maitripala Sirisena l will not be president again.

4, You all, will eventually die of old age.

Can you please publish the formula or method used to calculate the loss. Was it an oppurnity cost or actual . If actual how did you work out the interest for thirty years and did you or did you not discount.
What was the average rate on the day and the calculated diffence over the threshold .

How was selling a legal bond in the secondary market a crime ?
Insider dealing if any is a crime that is a issue that needs prosecution.

Rest is a propaganda hype and a good one .

Another attempt to scam the Central Bank, and privatize The National Payment Platform – to be outsourced to a company set up by foreign deep state interests to access Big Data on Sri Lanka is on going.
The foreign deep state is in overdrive these days, pushing its agenda in Lanka after govt. was de-stabilized with election and the same old ethnic games..
Arjun Aloysius and his buddy Kasun were just moved to the Prison Hospital though Arjun is in the pink of health!

One of the main promises made at the election was the bring the thieves, murders of the last govt to justice and bring a JUST solution for Tamil grievances.

Unless you deal with these two files you will see people not just moving away from the UNP they will be moving away from politics. People have lost the little hope they had in changing the govt for the betterment of the country: not to let another bunch of politicians and their cronies accumulate wealth for another seven generations.

Thsi is all BS. IT is a scfam that went for decades. In this govt’s term out of three bond scams only one is discussed. Money is hidden inside Sri lanka and all over the word. Not only Ranil previous president’s (more than one) have done. This president is not a saint at all. The ruimour is almosat every Politician got money. One person had said, I don’t have I bought buildings with those. There are so many stories about religious places, ethnic groups, countries every body had been involved by tistributing the loot. Even has given poojas to gods asking the protection.

Now they are doing another Hora deal to favor their cronies like in the Multi BILLION Rupee Bond theft.

How? They are forcing CB Governor honorable highly educated non-partisan Indrajith Coomaraswamy to agree to their NPP or national payment program when CB Governor has said a small nation with just 21.3 million people are not the same as India.

This is being done to favour RW’s cronies. American PhD Loud Harsha DeSilva thinks he is better than Indrajith. Not so. He is forcing this. He also wants ECTA that will solve Indian unemployment problem. Already tens of thousands of Indian labourers and also indian IT workers enjoying far superior life in Sri Lanka compared to their shithole nation. Better opportunities for Indians in Ceylon than for our folks in India.

there are senior ministers in the UNP side, SLFP side who says the bond scam is something new. they used to sell the same money over and over agin. that is why the source is not coming out. Some how they profitted and money may be all over the world mostly as Cash. Momey printing also may be connected to this. Some well know singer(s) he may also have that kind of money. Monks, churches, mosques may have except one church which made disappear every thing. some one from Medirigiriya also has so many new vehicles. there is no damge control. IT is BS. Peolek scold him to the face. HE looks cracy, He wants to destroy coconut lands, Muthurajawela, there was a piece of land growing Mukunaweaan all for building houses. I heard Sri lanka doe snot have any more free lands because all dvidied among politicians this Scam is going for decades. Ranil is not the only one responsible. Some try to escape it looks very difficult.

For UNP to succeed in the future its important all the MPs of UNP take total control of the news that goes out. I do not mean the news that is put out by UNP, but the news put out by others. The news put out by SLFP and SLPP should be “Fact Checked” by UNP every day. Even a day should not pass without the false statements made by SLFP and SLPP go without any “Fact Checking”. Who ever becomes the Minister in-charge of the Ministry that controls media should immediately bring in regulations that will ensure that there are “Fact Checkers” in all political TV programs. False statements bring about racial tensions and religious disharmony not to mention wrong expectations and ideas put into the minds of the voters.

      Park:
Shouldn’t the media be doing this. Look at USA. Everything or almost any thing of any importance that Trump puts on twitter is fact-checked by media.
Media wanted freedom and now its got it way more than it had during the last govt and reporters don’t have to worry about white vans following them. So they better take their job serious without being pawns of politicians.

      • 1

Unfortunately Media has become political parties in Sri Lanka. The owners of TV stations have moved to become politicians and extension of political parties in order to obtain concessions from the parties they support. Good example Maharaja TV stations which always attack UNP and Ranil. Similarly Sanka Amarajith from Derana does the same thing. Ranga from Maharaja is the worst of all. He has forgotten he was a UNP supporter during the day and after 6pm when it turns dark he became a Mahinda supporter. Legislation is important to control media which are turning political parties and do not fact check but promote false statements and lies misleading voters. It should be a crime to promote lies which creates racial tensions.

Yes, that’s a good point. News should be “fact checked” and media must not be allowed to give opinions when reporting ‘News’. We can form our own opinions based on the facts given.

        Kalu Nangi

People get news through grapevine & to check its reliability seek media, that’s the general process.
That’s the reason for media houses to incorporate news analysis with expert views.

Naturally this analysis’ become multi-faceted but that doesn’t mean that news isn’t biased.
It’s governments mainly responsible for partial news & that compels other political parties to depend on their own news networks & essentially it makes situation worst.

News analysis gives food for peoples’ thought & it must be encouraged. that’s how constructive criticism is promoted so KN please don’t be afraid of news analysis.

For certain this “Damage Control” will not work. The reason is, RW both as a Leader and a PM has lost his CREDIBILITY. That is the worst thing that could happen to a Leader. This situation will get worse and worse, if his chosen CB Governor Mr. Mahendran does not come to Sri Lanka to appear in courts. The people have already started to question as to why RW is dodging the issue and with everyday of delay in Mahendrans appearance in courts, the entire blame will be laid on the door step of PM. The political opponents will definitely take a huge advantage and further will put RW on a “Watch List”. Can RW come out of this mess? I doubt it.

Have you noticed an impressive array of ministers are being presented here to portray it is business as usual.

You should take note of three exceptionally classy ministers:

Housing and Construction Minister Sajith Premadasa
“Educated at highly prestigious UNI LSE, who few a years ago wanted to reconstruct/transform the country into a Bumiputra system of governance, this was when he was dreaming about leading the UNP and becoming the President of this island. His only supporter was Dayan the public racist. Well Sajith suggested this racist form of governance during a high level meeting of the UNP’s policy making body. This was published on UNP website and removed after 2/3 days.

      Plantation Industries Minister Navin

Well this man is sitting on his racist father’s ill-gotten wealth. With that kind of wealth the Mahaweli River could have been diverted all around the country many times over. He never apologized for his father’s racist thoughts, words and actions instead he is trying to be another hero of little Lanka riding on the smart ass brigadier’s back. Surely he must know who burnt down Jaffna Library and where the looted books/ola manuscripts are. Let him return both wealth and books back to where both belonged to, the people. Will you quietly have word with him as to what did he do with the Apple grove in Australia?

Deputy Minister of Economic Development, Harsha de Silva

Here is another hero of Lanka.
Just before the 2015 Presidential Elections in an interview to Al Jazeera he said”I am a proud Southerner and a Sinhala Buddhist”. Could you tell us what exactly did he mean when he said ” I am a proud Southerner and a Sinhala Buddhist”.

Truth is, all the fellows can’t move one tiny little bit because Ranil structured the government in such a way that one differential move, and the country’s monetary system will come toppling down. Rajapaksa decided not to interfere, as he is a patriot who values his country over his personal power. Hope Rajapaksa as leader of the JO will block ETCA with India. Balancing books for Ranil is not going to be easy.

ranil should focus on improving the competitiveness of the country. We have slid down to 85th.Naturally thre will be a backlash from the people at elections. They don’t know about international competitiveness but they surely know when their troubles and worries start to increase which is directly related to competiveness and is inverse to it.In otherwords if srilanka becomes more competiitive then the peoples troubles and worries become less and they will vote for the govt.I have been telling this for the umpteenth time on this blog but to no avail.

Do you know that big countries like brazil and iran which were last year were less competitive than us have moved ahead to no 80 and 69 respectively. The more we allow big countries to move ahead the more we are in danger to falling living standards.Small countries can survive only if they are more competive than big countries, justlike companies. The small ones have to be more efficient.

Philipines is no 56 and vietnam no 55.How the hell are we at no 85 going to compete with them for the investment? In basic economics with Joe perera at one time i remember him dinning into us that for production to take place we have to have land, labour, capital and organisation. We have land unlike singapore which is 700sq.km,taiwan 36000 sq.km while srilanka is 65000 sq.km.We have labour too of 9 million workers, while taiwan has 12 million and singapore has only 3.6 million. However our labour though adequate quantitywise,is very uncompetive qualitywise and ranked 131st,while bangladesh is 118,indonesia 96th,philipines 84,india 75th,thailand 65,vietnam 57,china 38,malaysia 26,taiwan 25,japan 22,germany 14,UK 6,US 3 and singapore 2 switz 1.

You have proved in the past that on your own you can never lead the party to victory. Always wants to piggy back on some one else.

Yeah, yeah, don’t worry. Ranil will leave not only Yahapalanaya but his party politics too in 2020. He was given 3 full years to show his leadership but failed. He is a sprinter not a distance runner. As the history proved, he can run maximum 2 years. He is tired already but man, he is lucky to have no competitors in the JO. Their remote control is already bought by Ranil. I am sure he is looking for another bait to field in 2019/2020 Presidential elections or support a common candidate fielded by Hotu Pohottuwa who will be defeated by angry voters.

I cannot understand why majority of writers in this forum hang on to this bond deal as robbery by Ranil and UNP’ers knowing or not knowing what bond is. This bond deal is not an outright robbery but by unethical manipulation – getting inside information -made billions. The investigation found the main culprit are Perpetual Treasuries owner and CEO and legal actions are proceeding against them. Central Bank is holding 12 billions of Perpetual Treasuries and PM says 9.2 billions recoverable even if deposited outside Sri Lanka. So if the government carry out this without breaking the bars of ladder to make the climb incomplete, we cannot find any fault with them. Why don’t those commenting explain a way to recover the muli-billions MR and his MP’s made during their regime on Central Bank Bond manipulations. Moreover jacking up the cost by more than 50% in deals like Hambantota harbour, new airport, highways, Norochcholai power plant and in many others and depositing all their illicit earnings abroad, this is actually an outright robbery from the people of this land. So what those commenting think of this?

It’s a well planned outright robbery & your attempt to whitewash Ranil & the clan will never be successful.
Catching the culprits & putting them in jail is more important than recovering the amounts & the gg’s promise to prosecute previous regime culprits is long delayed so they’re responsible for that failure too.

Native Vedda: I agree with you. To me there is not a SINGLE Minister who can be identified as a Cabinet Minister and that includes all other Juniors and State Ministers. Do any of them work with a VISION for Sri Lanka? All are in “BUSINESS” and the capital outlay they have: Racism; Sectionalism Religiosity; Family Tree; Fanaticism are all deployed to be in power to rob, plunder National Wealth for them , their kith and kin and the gang of goons supporting and protecting from any type of danger of losing that power grip. Look at the way some of the “YOUNG” blood who came in to politics, such as the one you mentioned, Dr. Harsha de Silva, behave and act in handling public affairs. In a way, one cannot blame them entirely because all their performances depend on the vision and the directives of the Leader and the dictates of political hierarchy. That is why I said this so called “Damage Control” will not work. Already the “Dog Fight” for Cabinet portfolios has started and that GAME of Musical Chairs will continue. The “Leader” and the faces you see at the table in the picture speak volumes and volumes of failures. Would they CHANGE?

ofc itwas pre-meditated, and pre-warned escape by Mahendran just before the report out. Who else would advise mahendran the timing of his escape, if it is not his sponsor and buddy-in-crime the PM. Mahendran also does not realize that he has been made a fool by the PM, so that PM could now point the finger at his buddy and deflect the flak that he is getting from the public.
