Ranil To Take Oaths

The United National Party leader Ranil Wickremesinghe is set to take oaths as the Prime Minister of Sri Lanka before President Maithripala Sirisena this evening.

Rani MaithreeWickremasinghe is set to take oaths in a simple ceremony at the Presidential Secretariat. The new cabinet of Ministers is to be appointed later.

The UNP secured victory at the parliamentary polls today. Although the final result is yet to be announced election authorities say that the UNP will fall short of an absolute majority (113) by at least 4 seats.

However, both Wickremesinghe and President Maithripala Sirisena prior to the polls had reiterated that a national government will be formed after the polls.

According to UNP sources at least 20 elected parliamentarians loyal to the President will join the new government.

Did UNP secure Sinhala votes to legitimize his victory? If he din’t then it is a hollow one. Minority votes do not count.

      Has Dayan started number crunching?

        Native,

Be grateful that minorities, particularly the Muslim community, have done a great service to the Nation, to ensure she remains within the civilized comity of Nations.

But for the Muslims, even you were likely to be taken away in a white van by the Gorillapakse, if one were to go by the comments you had been sending to CT.

I am having bit of fun at Dayan’s costs.

You recall Dayan’s article in which he dismissed MS’s victory as hollow for he won without the support of 47% smart ass patriots of the south.

I hope KASmaalam, HLD M ……….. other fellow MR’s b***s carriers would stop calling Ranil as the unelected prime minister.

            Native,

How would DR Dayan De Silva (Jeyatileke) react to the defeat? Would he be pragmatic or a bad looser?

On a serious note, the Race Card that MR played worked well but not well enough; is this a sign that the Sinhala Buddhists are slowly being liberated from their fettered fear psychosis that they are at an eternal danger of being wiped out?

Aney, poor Dyan, sin men……poor fellow only wanted to be Sec to the Foreign Ministry. He honestly thought that the man who initially sacked him will end up as his salvation….now what for the bugger?? I heard that Mugabe is looking for a new Foreign Minister for Zimbabwe and its available to those with Foreign Service experience who have no pride, no spine and no scruples whatsoever….perhaps I will forward his application on his behalf.

The Tamils also voted for RANIL to have a just Govt. acceptable to all the communities. This election showed that majority shunned the racist policies of the Rajapakse Govt.

Again only praising the Muslims but have forgotten the huge Tamil population living around Colombo and the up country areas that also voted for the UNP. This is the reason we Tamils never trust you Sinhalese, as you always fail to acknowledge the vast contribution of the Tamils to the island’s ancient history language religion and culture.

In practice they have been a commodity and prices are low but takers are many- that’s the politics of the minority.

United National Party leader Ranil Wickremesinghe,

      RE: Ranil To Take Oaths

Thank you for displacing Mahinda Rajapaksa as the Prime Minister elect with the help of Maitripala Sirisena and the People.

Now Let us All sing the Jaya Mangala Gatha.

Jaya Mangala Gatha-Verses of Auspicious Victory (rare Pali version)-Buddhist Chants

      https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_OH9kdeLEX4

Based on the Book of Protection (Paritta Sutta) from the Pali canon, the Jaya Mangala Gatha is sung here in a rare recording by the Mahabodhi Society of India in original Pali. The Jaya Mangala Gatha is a chant recommended by the Buddha to destroy negativity and to generate auspiciousness. It proclaims the 8 major victories of the Buddha which are:

      1) Victory over Mara ( MarRa)
      2) Victory over the demon Alavaka (Wimal)
      3) Victory over the wild elephant Nalagiri (Udu Gamanpila)
      4) Victory over serial killer Angulimala (Gotabaya)
      5) Victory over the evil intentions of Cinca who sought to defame (Pavitra)
      6) Victory over the haughty brahmin Saccaka (Vasudeva)
      7) Victory over the serpent king Nandopananda (Susil)
      8) Victory over the false views of Brahma Baka (Yapa)

It is said that these verses if chanted with a clear and pure intention are helpful in protecting the seeker by attracting the Good around.

The Pali pronunciation here is exemplary and difficult to find.

PS. Skipped the Sinhala version, because it is corrupted.

Being born and bred in a village, according to what I have seen of village folk, I can say, that a man like Mahinda Rajapaksa with a village background and culture cannot be so bad, unless his wife was the very embodiment of evil.

If Mahinda’s punishment should be x amount, his wife’s should x to the power of 1000.

Congratulations to Ranil and his team ! What a team, they stood by him and delivered as promised !

JVP failed miserably. Sunil Handunetti, Vijitha and to a certain extent AKD were criticising UNP for the sake of criticising. They were not willing to work or take responsibility but were happy to continue to criticise others. They have proved that they are not credible beyond any doubt. Period.

      Dear Native,

      I am here , Congratulations..

You should thank the Wahabis for helping Batalanada Ranil instead of Hakeem.

      We are happy too,

It will be hard for you to airlift our Mahinda now, even with Cameron , Surendran and Blair providing cover to UN Banki Moon.

After all Mahinda is the Opposition leader of 95 MPs who represent the great majority.

Bodhi Sira is already in good company.

Guess who Sira took to Maldives with him..

He is none other than the Finanace Minister who had some Pathalaya heavies providing election help.

        Amanasekara,

After all Mahinda is the Opposition leader of 95 MPs who represent the great majority.

What happened to your boasts of MR victory? For your information there are over 30 MPs supportive of MS in the UPFA waiting to join the National govt, thus reducing the Opposition to less than 70. A further 40 odd MPs will be indicted on various charges ranging from murder allegations to misappropriation of Public funds, thus facing possible incarceration leading to reduce the Oppostion to an insignificant number and not as a great majority as you assert. MR will not be able to continue as Leader of Opposition for long, when he gets exposed for Murder and Fraud. Do not forget, MR is also wanted for Human Right’s Violations also. So your hope of MR leading a strong Opposition is only a pipe dream. This is simple retribution, to what MR did to all political parties. Karma is a Bitch, Don’t you think?

I hope there will be an invitation to the TNA to join a national government and they accept without any conditions: “To earn a better life for the Tamil speaking people of the island by working for the betterment of everyone in the island.”

    • 6
      3

I do not think the TNA will readily join with the UNP, or the UPFA , but wil be supportive of those policies which are of benefit and in accord with it’s own policies that are of help to advance the quality of live and standard of living of it’s constituents.
The TNA is a grouping which consists of varying political tendencies that will have to reach a compromise to work with
a party that forms a government in the South..Whether it will play a role by joining such a government is difficult to predict at this stage.

      • 3
        0

Uthungan – TNA should give up dependence on other countries like
India, USA to solve local problems of the Tamils as, as a rule , these countries support the govts.in power and not the oppressed and even Mugabe of Zimbabwe is supported by many African countries, tho’ the west detests him.
TNA slept thro’ the last seven months with very little work done for the Tamils ,while a moderate govt.was in power. They managed to get few acres of land, released to the people who owned it before the war and with independent judiciary in power now, these people could have got their lands thro’ the courts and there was no need for political intervention. TNA could not get one soldier
moved from the North, as their presence in large numbers,un
proportionately became a hindrance to day to day activities carried out by the people of N/E.
TNA should work with the govt. in power, and not with diaspora or other govts.,which is a waste of time as they are not going to send their armies to fight for the Tamils. TNA always expected the govts in power to offer solutions on a platter without fighting for it and this attitude should change and they should work hard with the govt, involve is serious discussions. and get the problems affecting the Tamils solved amicably and march forward. The Tamils should not depend on other MPs like Douglas, Swaminathan & Hakim or for that matter Thondaman to solve the problems for the Tamils in N/E and TNA should accept portfolios in the cabinet so that they need not move around with a begging bowl for help, where as, they themselves as ministers could find solutions working with a moderate govt.
Although people rejected ACTC & and the ex Ltte cadres in the
North, in this election, TNA will be watched closely to see whether they are working hard and sincerely. They should give a
time frame of 6 months to the Govt.to solve the existing problems faced by the Tamils. If the Govt. and the majority does like the
word ‘Federalism”, tho’ popular in most successful countries. bring it another form with the same facilities.

No one would dispute what you have said.
Now there is no excuse left for the TNA to neglect responsibilities and in seeing to the welfare and need of it’s constitituents with respect to issues concerning their housing, employment, health ,social welfare and other such mundane matters which affect their daily lives like transport, cost of living etc., etc.
It is high time for Tamil MP’s to stop making excuses and get down to get down to the business of planning, implementing, and producing results that matter.

Yes Lankan Tamils were stupidity has not limits, for giving refuge to these Dravidian Tamil Speaking immigrant Muslim community from Kerala and Tamil Nadu. Especially in the east. Yes we have to keep dreaming an this fake Arab immigrant Dravidian Tamil speaking Muslim community will always connive with the Sinhalese majority to backstabs and deny our rights. So only dreaming of rights and bites is left for us.
All these recent immigrants Tamil immigrants from South India( other than the upcountry estate Tamils) have become the bane and downfall of the indigenous Tamils from the north east. The fake Arab Dravidian Tamil speaking Muslims and the recently Sinhalised immigrant Indian Tamil origin So called Sinhalese Karawa, Durawa, Salagama Hali , Hunu, Berewa, Radala . All now beating the anti Tamil drum and the backbone of Sinhalese Buddhist nationalism/ racism and extremist Sinhalese racist parties

““To earn a better life for the Tamil speaking people of the island by working for the betterment of everyone in the island.”

Douglas Devananda did exactly that at least since the mid nineties. Didn’t he earn better life for the Tamil speaking people? If not what the hell did he do as minister of pointless ministries?

Seriously what can TNA achieve by joining a national government? Have you decided on what they should achieve or can achieve?

Let us see your realistic expectation of TNA in words inscribed on stone.

    • 4
      1

      Native,
We can’t compare Devananda, a thug who was used for his paramilitary services by the GOSL, with someone like Sumanthiran or Sampanthan. But the TNA will have to iron out some issues before it can decide on accepting any cabinet posts.

      1. The upcoming UNHRC report and the pressures it will face to downplay it if it becomes part of the cabinet.
      2. The person in the North who got the most preferential votes was Sridharan of Kilinochchi. Senathirajah and Sumanthiran came 2nd and 3rd, but Sridharan led by a wide margin. Given his somewhat harder line, it may cause problems internally.

I think the TNA should eventually accept a couple of cabinet posts but wait for the UNHRC report and decide how they want to tackle it.

Ranil went to US and learnt how to topple governments in third world countries. One of the tactics is to shout about corruption by the government. There is no need to prove anything.
Ranil promised to turn the whole parliament into a committee to investigate Mahendran and Bond issue. Now let us see him deliver on that .
Ranils supporters were delirious about Thajudeen murder and Yoshitha. Let us see if there is an atom of evidence on that.
If you look at the voting pattern , after more than 20 years of PA government, with Chandrika, Maithri attacking him like snakes, Tamils& Muslims all out against him , unproven allegations of corruption, Mahinda Rajapakse still did very well. Much better than the UNP during their days in the opposition.
This guy Maithri left the PA and joined the UNP and defeated the very party that brought him up( on 08 January) from a peasant to Ministership. Now he is sacking senior members of the PA ( SLFP) who have remained faithful to the SLFP. Is this fair and just ? A traitor is sacking the faithful !
Everywhere the UNP won because of minority support.
But that is not because the minorities endorse Ranil but because politically they are opposed to Mahinda.
So, all the votes for Ranil are negative votes. No body endorsed him. They voted because they didn’t like Mahinda.
But Ranil will ignore this and act as if he has won a massive landslide.
He will form a government by offering political bribes to those in the PA to cross over to the UNP. But under yahapalanaya they argued that this practice of obtaining votes under one party and then crossing over to another was undemocratic and a bad thing ! Maybe it is bad only when done by others !
But before long many people will regret. Already the intelligentsia has learnt about him through his handling of the Arjun Mahendran affair.

Never mind ,you thought your plot along with your Rogue Master have sent RW for his Political wilderness forever. It has not happened has it? Now you find it difficult to swallow.

All you can think of was how wonderful your thieving murderous Master ,and his family are.
That’s why we say God is great.
I don’t think you kind of people are really worried about the state of the country which is Bankrupt,
the health service was neglected ,
the Education was destroyed , for example the students who are waiting to enter their respective universities are still waiting to be admitted since last year following their ALevel Results. Why oh why?
Are the civil servants not doing their jobs , are they signing off in the mornings and galavanting doing their side businesses?? The students received their AL results have grown older by 1 1/2 years and by the time they starts their courses may be even 2years older??
Why does it happens in SL only??
In other countries the Exams , The Results, then entering the Universities takes place like clock works.

The Judiciary is laughable as same as the corrupt Police and armed services.
All are out to get rich quickly from the state coffers.
Who is keen to develope the country and able to produce future generation we all to be proud of??

Getting into Politics to get rich quickly by thieving from the state coffers was the norm in the past.

MS and RW can change this mentality forever from the minds of fellow Politicians. RW and his wife can put SL on the World Map with positives.
Congratulations and Good Luck. Not forgetting CBK too. Lead the way with honesty and integrity.

What’s all these comments about if he got the majority sinhalese votes.A vote is a vote as long as it is legally cast by a citizen of the country. Is it that some cannot expect the fact that Ranil won fair and square and that Mahinda was disgracefully defeated. May God abundantly bless the new government.

    Dear Ranil

    Heartiest Congratulations

You promised women, life free of violence. I hope you will do your utmost keep your promises. Increase the number of courts, judges, fill all vacancies in the AG’s Department, increase the cadre and ensure speedy justice. There are no of cases without filing action.

Apart from issues related to women please expedite all cases. Then what about banning hate speeches and rousing communalism. Your rival would simply love to have a repeat performance of July 83 and June 2014.

    Wish you good luck

Honour our country and Honour those live in it. All are equal and let all live peacefully. Respect ones Religion.

The Gullible Buddhists were made to hate their non Buddhists Neighbours by the Politicians and Buddhists Priests .
Maha Sangha should take a good look at themselves. Have they been in anyway responsible for the hate and vengeance prevailed in our country and the ultimate Destruction all in the NAME OF SAINT LORD BUDDHA??
If it had been these highly ordained THEROS should take some of the blame .
It’s not only Take take everything but they too have a responsibility to steer the country away from this hate and suspicions and UNITE THE COUNTRY AND ITS PEOPLE.

Ranil To Take Oaths This Evening In A Simple Ceremony.

It time UNP made a stop to this kind of propaganda. We have gad enough of Western gibberish since the run up to the Presidential elections.

Simple or otherwise, just take oaths and get on with the job. You are already late.

remember the sinhala voters who brought you to power. These guys tend to forget what you said in (02) weeks. So, get on with your job right away.

I hope there will be an invitation to the TNA to join a national government and they accept without any conditions: “To earn a better life for the Tamil speaking people of the island by working for the betterment of everyone in the island”

The tamil majority already have a better life outside the North. So it was during the war and as well as after the war & up untill now.\Tamils are the ones promoting racism with having tamil parties contesting in the N & E and voting for them not for UNP & UPFA.

Therefore should the new Govt bother about the Tamils of N & E?
Tamils in the North & East can not blow hot and cold with the same breath.

Congratulation to PM Ranil W. and the whole team.

A new dawn, a new country. Unlike MARA’s hallow promises every 5 years in the form of a policy statement, this is a reality.

PM Ranil W./UNP may have done some mistakes in the past. However UNP has demonstrated they have realized and corrected those mistakes.

In my view JVP is the biggest loser, they have failed again and again either they should support a major party and show what they can do or just hang up.

I think as someone else also mention JVP was criticizing UNP for the sake of criticizing, in other words they were no different to MARA team.

People are smarter now (well at least a thin majority is ) bashing other party alone won’t get you votes. It’s a pity some capable guys in JVP is loosing out in serving the people.

    As of now is’s 92 and 83 JVP 4

I am hopeful we can breath easy now. I would also like to see the Tamil parties join the government.

Children, Children (all the comment-taters who don’t discuss the subject matter of the article – they are commenting on)-

Stop bickering and calling each other names.

Now with all said and done lets look at the priorities – for starters, and make sure that ” OUR” Government standing fro good governance does not deviate.

If you have anything worthwhile to offer with respect to the subject matter on the article – it would be very positive for the forum offered – by CT.

We will have to tolerate the likes of Dayan and crowd to do a right about turn and start belittling Rajapakse – and praising Maithri & Ranil – as their morals depend on who,what.when. where they can get something for their troubles.

When in Politics – you have to tolerate the scum as they are irrational and capable of much mischief.

K.A.S and Manjula (as common taters – SPUDS ) and as for the likes of the different scribes who contributed to CT like Dayan; HLDM – using half truths and full lies they would probably change their tune to show their true parasitic selves.

Changing their TUNE would be keeping in with their understanding of Freedom of Expression ……………..

    Dear Ranil,

We all managed to catch the Gemba and throw it away thinking that it will go to its hole in the ground, never to return. But thanks to your people and some of us, he hopped back and tried to enter the house again. We have prevented that happening by catching it once more and hopefully thrown it far enough to prevent a come back.

But who knows? Gembas are Gembas and as they say, once a Gemba always a Gemba. We do not want this Gemba or any other Gembas to come within a mile of our house. Let them all go and jump in the nearest lake. Please make them do so.

Congrads to Ranil and hope we can emerge a new nation with political stability and minimal corruption. Mahinda the one time “Lion King” has still not learned his lessons that the hyena’s like Wimal, Vasu, Gamanpila, Dinesh, Bandula and a few more jackals around him that beat the drums of communism is Mahinda’s downfall. The Sinhalese race was not meant to be fooled all the time. May a new Sri Lanka prosper and a new miracle of Asia emerge.

What ever said and done, MR has done a good job against all odds created by the President for him and should give the devil its dues
and he has shown the world that he is a relentless fighter, unfortunately, not for good causes. By losing the election,he has learnt a bitter lesson that he should have kept the minorities contended too. Once again, the minorities denied his desire to treat them as slaves and aliens . From now on, he should start building a good rapport with the minorities if he wants to stay in politics but better to retire with grace as for the next five years, odds are going to be against him.

Prof. Dayan J had high hopes of becoming a diplomut but unfortunately
he has to unpack his bag. CT readers are awaiting eagerly for his comments on the election , after he recovers from the shock.

    Congratulations to UNP and TNA,

i expect TNA to be partners in governance and joins the government and demand cabinet posts.

You should not only be part of the problem but be part of the solution as well.
