Recent Anti-Muslim Violence & How Best To Curtail Them

By Laksiri Fernando

Dr. Laksiri Fernando

Compared to anti-Muslim violence at Aluthgama in June 2014, both the government action against the racist mobs in Kandy and the condemnation by almost all important political leaders against the incidents give some hope that there are possibilities of curtailing communal violence in Sri Lanka in the future, if the determination and political resolve are not diminished, and necessary actions are taken impartially and consistently. This is not the time for me to criticise the government.

The prevention of communal violence and violence in general are national as well as humanitarian tasks beyond politics, religion or ethnicity.

This is not at all to defend the delays, perhaps hesitations, inefficiency of the police, or political point scoring which might even exacerbate as the time passes, detrimental to our hope for curtailing communal violence in the future. What might be most important are (1) not to lose attention after the mobs are controlled, and (2) seek both short term and long term ‘scientific’ or evidence based solutions.

Those solutions have to be sustainable and acceptable to all communities and political parties as much as possible. Here we are talking about true ‘national reconciliation’ which we have been talking about now for some time.

Background

Sri Lanka is not the only country with recurrent ethnic, religious or communal violence. But it has been one of the worst countries in the world in this respect, without finding durable solutions whether between the Sinhalese and the Tamils or the Buddhists and the Muslims or other religious communities. The country and the people have suffered immensely as a result of these conflicts whether in terms of life or limb, property, civic relations, international image or economic development.

The psychological and moral damage that these conflicts have incurred among the young generations, one after the other, have been persistent and the accumulated results might be some of the reasons why these conflicts and violence are recurring.

It has been unfortunate that when the country appears to overcome some of these challenges, it soon falls back to the perennial problems of antagonism and conflict. This has even given room for some to advocate ‘foreign conspiracy theories,’ but even such interferences are not possible if the people in the country are united and live in harmony. The blame should go mainly to the ‘insiders’ and not ‘outsiders.’ Outsiders on and off may be fishing in troubled waters.

Multiple Connections

The recent events of anti-Muslim violence are not without precedents. Therefore, the claim that the leniency or impunity for the past perpetrators or advocates has a great validity. It is possible that the Kandy attackers are not the same as Aluthgama attackers. However, if the Aluthgama attackers were properly punished for their crimes, then it could have been a strong deterrent.

In most of these type of events, the advocates and the perpetrators are not necessarily the same. Both at Aluthgama and in Kandy however, the advocates behind seem to be the same. They are the primary culprits. The Bodu Bala Sena (BBS) and the Mahason Balakaya stand prominent among others. The people who actually indulge in violence are their cannon fodder. Both type of perpetrators should be punished without leniency. It is praiseworthy that the police this time has arrested by now 115 people who were involved in attacks. However, when the police say that they have arrested the ‘master minds,’ it is quite doubtful or suspicious. Even this time, there can be some efforts to save or spare the real culprits behind.

Whoever are the real culprits of communal violence, ethnic or religious, they should be brought before the law, whatever their supposed standing in society or religion. Otherwise, our society would be constantly condemned for violence, backwardness and even barbarism.

The question of impunity goes much deeper. It is possible that there is a connection between the crimes or violations during the war and the anti-Muslim violence in recent times. Some of those who were involved in crime, robbery and general violence in the recent past have proved to be former soldiers or deserters. Even otherwise, the resistance to punish the past perpetrators has given credence to indulge in violence against ‘the other,’ this time against the Muslims.

The war against terrorism was justified. However, the excesses or crimes were not. The best policy is to deal with them internally. The failure is the reason for international pressure or interference. The caseload undoubtedly is complex. If the government/s take stern action against the present violators and violations, the complicated past might be mollified for the sake of the country’s progress. In this sense, the way the government deals with the Kandy events would be an acid test.

Chain of Events

Just because of the government change in 2015, promising reconciliation, the racist forces did not disappear. They simply started lying low. This is something that apparently had escaped the attention of the reconciliation secretariat, other authorities and even the progovernment civil society. There were no clear efforts to address the underlying forces perhaps overwhelmed by or priority given to the implementation of the Geneva resolutions. Tensions persisted underneath, like fire under ashes (alu yata gini).

Gintota last November was an early warning of the impending troubles. Over there, both groups were initially involved; however the Sinhala mobs coming from outside soon took over the attacks on innocent Muslims, their shops, houses and mosques. At Aluthgama (June 2014), Gintota (November 2017 and Digana Kandy (February 2018), all triggered through motor accidents or road rage. All the initial incidents were symptoms of violence in society in general, among individuals or groups and soon became exploited by the racist organizations.

A major exception however was Ampara which reveals well organized attempts from the beginning to create religious/ethnic disharmony wherever possible and whatever the pretext. This is what the government and the police failed to grasp and take preventive action before things flared up in Kandy. The Prime Minister admitted in Parliament on 6 March that in the case of Ampara incidents that there had been some weaknesses in the law enforcement. But it was more obvious in the case of Kandy.

Ampara attacks took place on 26 February. By the time it was well known that there had been organized campaigns in the social media, provoking Sinhalese against the Muslims on various pretexts. One such pretext was the use of  ‘wanda pethi’ (sterilization pills) in food for Sinhalese in Muslim eateries and this was exactly the pretext of Ampara attacks. These provocative campaigns were heightened after the LG election results on 10 February.

The Digana incident in fact took place four days before on 22 February. It is not yet known whether it was purely a traffic dispute or whether it had some ethnic overtones/intolerance. However, the police should have been on alert even before the death of the victim on 3 March and particularly after the Ampara incidents. Even after the death of the (Sinhala) victim, there was a full one day for the police to prepare and take preventive measures. This was not done.

Government In/Action?

The initial police inaction and reported connivance of some sections of them with the mobs have undoubtedly tarnished the country’s international image. The primary damage however is internal and not external. The Muslim community, their leaders, intellectuals and journalists, otherwise moderate and reasonable, have become disillusioned about the failures of law enforcement.

The government may give compensation to the victims. But most important is to compensate for the credibility damage. It should be appreciated that the government without hesitation, this time, denounced the racist violence in that name without much delay unlike in the past.

The President made his statement to the nation immediately and declared the state of emergency to counter the situation. The Prime Minister submitted his report to Parliament on 6 March. Under normal circumstances, the emergency or curfews are not something that people could appreciate. However given the circumstances, the limited and necessary application of emergency laws have become necessary.

The events have highlighted the permanent need to have a Special Anti-Racist Intelligence Unit in the police which should report to the Law and Order Minister and through him to the President. It is not clear how far the recent confusions within that ministry has led to the delays and inaction. The third minister within three years has now been appointed for law and order during the commotions.

The government has imposed a ban on some social media including the FB. This is an unnecessary drastic measure without much justification. Islamophobic and anti-Muslim campaigns were going on in the country for the last nine months as reported by the PM. Without nabbing the culprits, the curtailing of the freedom for everyone is not acceptable. What is most necessary is comprehensive anti-hate or hate speech laws, yet within the premises of freedom of expression.

Political Controversies

As anti-Muslim violence took place a few weeks after the local government elections (on 10 February) where the government encountered some setbacks, there were expressed suspicions that it was a further attempt to put the government into embarrassment or trouble. The main Muslim parties are within the government.

The counter argument was to say that it was a machination of the government itself, to divert people’s attention from the government’s failures and internal conflicts. It was a well known fact that the President and the Prime Minister were at loggerheads in recent times over many issues and there were attempts to remove the PM.

However, the rising Islamophobia, racism in general and anti-Muslim or anti-Tamil forces currently are beyond the main political parties in the country, the UNP, the SLFP, or even the SLPP. The JVP and such left political parties have taken more admirable positions. It is also a fact that within both the government and within the Joint Opposition (or SLPP), that there are strong chauvinist elements, but  the positions of the JO or the SLPP are more towards Sinhala-Buddhist chauvinism than the main governing parties, the UNP or the official SLFP.

In this context, the statement issued by Mahinda Rajapaksa as the leader of the Joint Opposition denouncing violence should be appreciated whatever its weaknesses or intentions. He has also expressed support to the government in controlling communal violence however conditional or dubious.

It has to be understood that the racist forces are a third force in politics like in many other countries whatever the connections that they have with major political parties in Sri Lanka. Also in building national reconciliation among all ethnic and religious communities in a durable manner the support and involvement of all major political parties have to be obtained as much as possible whoever the government in power.

The need for a broad national approach going beyond partisan considerations is necessary for national reconciliation. The equal need is for all political parties to stop unfounded accusations and political bickering in such a crisis situation.

Conclusion

Although we say it is only a minority that indulge in communal violence, which is true, without the backing or silence of broad sections of society that violence or racist third forces cannot survive. There are widespread prejudices, misunderstandings, intolerance and distances between and among communities apart from general and specific grievances. Islamophobia is one such fear or prejudice.

There is a need to address the issues at several levels.

First, not only the people who perpetrated violence in Kandy and Ampara who should be severely punished, but also the instigators and propagators behind, without fear or favour whoever they are. There are several videos and statements available to that  effect. Those police and STF officers who allegedly colluded with the mobs also should be investigated and punished.

Second, there should be all leader summit of all registered political parties and the initiative should come from the key leaders like Maithripala Sirisena, Ranil Wickremesinghe, Mahinda Rajapaksa, R. Smapanthan, Rauf Hakim, Arumugam Thondaman and Anura Kumara Dissanayake.

Third, there should be a religious leader summit and an interreligious dialogue to iron out and dispel misconceptions and build unity and solidarity among religions.

Fourth, there should be a summit or a series of consultations among civil society, media and academic organizations and individuals to work out what measures should be taken to prevent communal violence once and for all.

Fifth, and more importantly, there should be a concerted awareness, educational and warning campaigns throughout the country for initially one year approved by the above political and religious summits or even otherwise. This can be a task for the Reconciliation Secretariat. This campaign should penetrate the temples, mosques, churches and all religious institutions. There is much talk against the American Peace Corps coming again to Sri Lanka. Instead, Sri Lanka could have its own Peace Corps, recruiting and training university undergraduates as volunteers while covering their expenses and living during university vacations.

The scum has a bad habit of becoming violent towards the minority, whenever envy, or anger overtakes them. The ring leaders must be arrested, then others should follow, even if they are scum wearing the yellow robes.

Prof Laksiri, you have woken up only when Sinhalese commit atrocities on Muslims, but you are silent on atrocities committed by Muslims on Tamils in eastern province, and destruction of Hindu statues in Mannar which is being done with impunity. Did you read that Mahanayake of Malwatte had commended Tamils for their patience when the President of Hindu Sammelanam briefed him about these atrocities.

Well he does not want the ancient Tamil east to join with the north , because he wants the newly arrived Sinhalese state sponsored settlers and Muslims who arrived as refugees , a few centuries ago , to steal the land from the eastern Tamils. You can see his mindset from this. All these people jumping up and down when anti Muslim riots happening but keeping mum and watching the fun when genocide and war crimes were committed on the Tamils. You have this joker from the armed forces openly coming on the TV and stating , that Muslims are not our enemies , as they sided with us in the Tamil genocide , meaning the Tamils are our enemies. Just like that joker JR Jayawardene who came on the national television during the height of the 1983 riots, stating his heart goes out the suffering Sinhalese( suffering from what ? when they were burning looting raping and killing Tamils) and he does not care about the Tamils, as the Sinhalese will be happy if he kills and starves them. The former president and now one of the armed services chief openly uttering these anti Tamil statements, what else can you expect from this man? That Navy chief should have been sacked for coming on national Tv and making these sorts of racist statement. Only in Sri Lanka like in Nazi Germany these sorts of nonsense will be tolerated.

        Pandi Kutti,

What about the ISIS terrorists? There are no ISIS terrorist in Sri Lanka. And further ISIS has killed more Muslims that others. Further ISIS was created by the US and Israel.

The uneducated Sri Lankans are frogs in a well. When they look up they see just a small potion of the world and they think that is the entire world and they know everything about it. Instead of using today’s technology to broaden our knowledge we waste it on racism, lies and violence.

Sri Lanka is a dumb down nation.

What about them? Especially the ISIS from the Caliphate of Kattankudi and Kalmunai. Very busy terrorising the indigenous Tamil population in these areas and destroying Hindu temples and stealing Tamil lands. Very reminiscent of what happened to non Muslim and non Arab minorities ( even if they were Sunni Muslims) and to the Shia Arabs in ISIS held lands in Western Asia. You are very touchy about this subject. The ISIS may have killed more Muslims that others in the Middle East but here their target are largely the Tamil Hindus of the east and around Mannar. Finding all sorts of loopholes to marginalise them, as they feel they are voiceless.

As you say if the Curse of the Almighty has descended upon the Buddha terrorist decades ago….the country would be a peaceful place all communities.

Not sure which almighty you are appealing to , but one thing for certain, it seems that it seems that even the Almighty have given up on Sri Lanka

    LK,

We can do all what you have suggested, but nothing will change because the main reason behind the repeated communal violence is because of the LYING and JEALOUSY, and unfortunately you cannot take this out of the Sinhalese Buddhists, as these are their predominant traits.

The only time this country saw any progress was during the British rule, ever since its only going backwards. look at countries like Malaysia and Singapore and all the other east asian countries, the progress they have made in the last 30 years and what we have achieved, nothing, purely because of Tanha ( jealousy), they cannot stand anyone getting better than them, so they want to pull everyone down to their level.

There is no future for this country, as the people will never change. the only option left is to follow what you have done, MIGRATE to Australia or Canada.

Good article but repetition of facts as well.

We talk, criticize, point fingers at each other but are they constructive?

The best & the foremost is to make police aware of the importance of their perfect duty.

It’s quite visible that unfortunately our police are partial on racial/religious matters @ least since 83. Had police done a perfect duty in 83 the country would not have plunged into this miserable state.

There’s no need of peace corps (police are the main peace corps), awareness programs, foreign observers (we’ve observed it well), any kind of volunteers.

Majority have a responsibility to respect & look after the minority & the same for the minority & their fondness to outside forces to build pressure upon the majority is quite negative fact to peaceful living here.
Though pluralism is accepted it should not weaken oneness of Sri Lankans.

    DR. LF,

You can write articles after article with plausible ideas but nothing will be of any use. This is because, the country’s constitution is lopsided to favour the Sinhala Buddhist. The BBS and Gunarsa Thero committed many crimes but they have not been dealt with. The police is institutionally racist towards the minorities. The governing parties dare not do anything that will MR a political advantage! This means even though only a minority that attacked the Muslims yet there is a sizeable proportion of the Sinhala rural folks who tacit support. I think that Sri Lanka has crippling socioeconomic problems with majority insecurity. The Only was there will be peace long term is by the minorities to accept their subordinate status and be done with it.

As I believe, we have seen education is part of calm down these kind but it is not the primary option to calm Racist or communal violence as we have seen even top educated countries went this kind of attack in recent past (Black and White attack in America recently)…so the best solutions before education are
    1. Proper Implementation of Law and Order – Police have to take prompt action in coordination with Intelligent Division
    2. Proper Enforcement – Right enforcement
    3. Timely Justice
    4. Education and awaireness

Also we should shame that this racist attack was promoted buddhist monks….so how the government going to treat this ??? (above all must be common for all)

      Ibadun,

Nothing will happen. In the 70 years of independence we have had Sinhalese uprising, Tamil Uprising, Killing of prime minister, president , journalist, mob violence, death and destruction.

And its seems that the same is going to go on. If we could use a time machine and go 500 years to the future this country will have the same miserable history.

UNP politicians say that a full investigation will be carried out on Kandy incident and the findings will be made available to public. This will never happen. Same thing was said about Aluthgama incident but no investigation. Muslim politicians do not put pressure on Government to conduct an impartial investigation on Aluthgama incident. Why? According to politicians in JO, the main culprits behind Aluthgama incident are in the ‘Sammutiwaadee’ Government holding Ministerial posts. Muslim politicians should be blamed for the peril of their own community. The problem is Muslim politicians do not care for the ordinary folks as long as they can get Ministerial posts and perks.

Sinhala extremism and superiority complex is a well known cause, But we should not overlook the another important factor. Muslim politicians and high officials even in legal system were using their influence, loopholes in the system to bypass everythings. This had created long term irritation among everybody including normal sinhala population. Unfortunately, even in northeast they are very well using the power against the already crushed Tamil population. Government overlooked this situation for political advantage.

The cowardly lion “pumbayas”, puny, uneducated louts, seems to get their “courage” only when they are led by saffron robed thugs, and when they are in large numbers. This video should be used by the police, to identify, and arrest, those who destroyed and attacked homes. Some of them were too cowardly to show their racist faces, so they had to wear helmets and masks, to disguise themselves. Tough guys. Such a display of hatred, and disregard for others, and their property. I guess at the end of the day, they went back to their palaces, and their lives of luxury (sarcasm there).

Professor, BBS and Mahasonas have the blessings of Mahinda and Gota. Remember how you (yes, you) proposed in the University of Colombo Senate that both be given Honorary Doctorates? The matter was not even in the agenda. You just got up and proposed a Honorary LLD for MR and a Honorary PhD for Gota. No one dared even to say that the usual procedure should be followed. It was just after the defeat of the LTTE. The Convocation was on 06.09.2009. After MR lost you proposed that the doctorates be withdrawn. https://www.colombotelegraph.com/index.php/i-propose-to-revoke-doctorates-from-gr-mr/ But by that time MR and Gota had done the damage. You were also no doubt disappointed that MR did not appoint you for a DPL posting in Australia.

“Remember how you (yes, you) proposed in the University of Colombo Senate that both be given Honorary Doctorates?”

Please bear with Dr Laksiri Fernando for he didn’t know why he proposed honorary doctorates for both war criminals. I am not sure whether he pleaded temporary lapse of judgement or something else.

However all of us knew it was the little lion in his tummy which popped out and urged him to do so. The glorified moment of Sinhala/Buddhist history may not repeat again hence he celebrated it while it lasted.

      Gota was honoured with DSc.

The important issue is the judgement, quality and wisdom of the Colombo Uni staff which are called into question.

Here the best strategy to curtail ethnic violence conflicts:
Find a drug to cure the mental insanity of the “SINHALA MODAYA Kavuum kanna yodaya” as quoted by the Portugese (Parunagiya). I think the Sinhalese have proved that the lion race is a Yodaya when it comes indulging in crime. I remember once when I met Dr. Leslie Gunawardane, he lashed out that the the problem with the Sinhalese is that they are still trapped in the hunting and gathering age. I got into a major argument with him way back then trying to defend the Sinha race. Damn shame that he had proved his case.

Muslims Violence want stop. They keep agravating Sinhala people. I think tht is why North do not like Muslim there. Muslim stry to get lands saying they had a homeland tghere. but, Tamils say no. Remember in the futurem muslims will create more trouble if not Sinhala people are lackadaisical to respond right away. digana incident was a traffic dispute in the sense, Muslims thugs did not even the ask 41 tyear old driver. they saw that the driver obstructing the road (he had stopped ther, roads were narrow, I guess), he was Sinhala and they attacked with a club and the driver fell down on the road. tht is how it happened, probably even the police doe snot know. govt doe snot want back lash from sinhala people. Two sinhala people died. IF news goes sinhala people will be angry,.

    Dr. Laksiri Fernando,
You say that there were no clear efforts to address the underlying forces perhaps overwhelmed by or priority given to the implementation of the Geneva resolutions. Do you want me to seriously believe that priority was being given to the implementation of the Geneva resolutions and that you waited for some kind of violence to erupt for you to fantasise reconciliation.

Let’s take Learned Professor’s word on that-i.e. Care given to implement of Resolution 30/1 is not given to fix underlying causes.. But during the entire sitting (current 37th) if any discussion is going about Lankawe, then it is only about the lethargy implementation of the resolution. If it is the case of resolution which receives Aanduwa’s attention, then, is that ever possible for Aanduwa to attend to the underlying causes?

The flaw on his statement is extremely biased Learned Professor could of think anything better than that. Underlying causes created in 1948 by Don Stephen. The Learned Professor hates Mangala so he is putting hopeless knot between 1948 initiations and the 2017 Resolution, which agrees to 2 year term limit.
That is really, really imbecile talk of him.

With all the experience in Research ,and the Resources which he has can Dr Laksiri publish the Minimum, Maximum and Median Disposable Incomes of the inhabitant supporters of the Gentleman (separately please ) whom the Dr has entrusted to “fix” the Racial Attacks.

    * Dr Ranil
    *Mr Sampathar
    * Mr Hakeem
    * Mr Sillysena
    * Mr Anura Kumara
    * Mr Thondaman

This will enable the inhabitant citizens to put their two cents worth too, because they are the ones who battle day in day out to to make a living along side the naughty dudes whom Dr Laksiri has labelled as the real culprits.
Instead of us getting all these u beaut how to DIY advice from the ex inhabitants ,who are part time Citizens and enjoy the life in places where the minimum safety net payments from the Tax Payers exceed LKR 200,000 a month for a single person.

May I also propose the two gentlemen who are a must because they also have a significant folloing among the inhabitants.
They are Mr Bathudeen and Mr Ganeshan..

Who instigated the Aluthgama to Kandy violence against Muslims? ? Only One party – The Racist professor’s War Crime PhD Disciples, who are Old King and Brother. Nobody else is. Sampanthar Aiya had clearly said what was about come within few days. This anti-Tamil Professor pretending to be have not read Sampanthar’s speech of “Tamil Eelam will flower out of Lotus Bud”. Here is the proof that he read and he is now bothered about it. He is brainwashing Modayas readers. Here read how he is working step by step for destroy everything: ” the way the government deals with the Kandy events would be an acid test. …….….If the government/s TAKE STERN ACTION AGAINST THE PRESENT VIOLATORS AND VIOLATIONS, THE COMPLICATED PAST MIGHT BE MOLLIFIED FOR THE SAKE OF THE COUNTRY’S PROGRESS. ……………. The Bodu Bala Sena (BBS) and the Mahason Balakaya stand prominent among others. ………….. They are the primary culprits. ………………. The best policy is to deal with them internally. The failure is the reason for international pressure or interference. “ What learned professor preaching here is, “Sinner of the earth, Listen well this, I want to open the heaven’s gate for you, I had conferred PhDs for war criminals. That has to be substantiated. Crush the Kandy rioters in the motor, spread and fanfare the blood & the meat to IC. That will save my Disciples. You will got the heaven”

The concerned talk going among UNHRC, Tamils and NGOs is UNP lead Appe Aanduwa fooled together with China deals the responsibility of implementing the Resolution 30/1. This guy is real crook. Read this: ” There were no clear efforts to address the underlying forces perhaps overwhelmed by or priority given to the implementation of the Geneva resolutions. “

“ The Prime Minister admitted………… that there had been some weaknesses in the law enforcement. But it was more obvious in the case of Kandy. ” Even the IC understands now that the Sinhala Racist Governments has been showing the Sinhala Modaya mass as reason why they have to oppress Tamils. JR openly made a speech on that on Radio in July 1983. After the war, Sinhala Racist Governments have been showing the Army as the reason why they have to allow rapes, forced disappearance, PTA tortures to continue on Tamils. Now Prime Minister is showing the police why he has to allow rioters to continue rioting. This is why 1956 the Tamils leaders were beaten up Galle Face? Then is anything new in police action this time? If the police is not under their control, fire the police or the l 215 + 1 pigs decorating the government chairs will have to resign. Didn’t they paunch the army to commit war crime? Is that now they are admitting police is not obeying? What a drama from a fool who does not know acting!

” social media, provoking Sinhalese against the Muslims on various pretexts. One such pretext was the use of ‘wanda pethi’ “ Why not hire a polling company to find out how many Sinhalese are taking the words from Social Media and how many believes in Muslims are poisoning? If there are many, isn’t the Muslims businesses would have gone bankrupt? Truth is Old Royals paid for this carnage and UNP approved it. A minority number of Sinhalese may envy of other minorities. This floating votes can be used by UNP and SLFP (, now Slap Party too) to win elections. Entire world knows how much the Sinhala Intellectuals, a strange spice, living in Wildlife Sanctuary SinhaLE Lankawe, are brainwashing this small percentage of Modaya crowd to winning elections.

“It is not yet known whether it was purely a traffic dispute or whether it had some ethnic overtones/intolerance. “ Has it established in court the assailants were not intoxicated? In that case, is that they hit the truck or truck hit them? Had they had prior DWI? Further, it was said Kumarasinge did not die. The video that is showing the fight is not showing any prolonged struggle. By the hit, he did not pass out either, but died one week after. So there are suspicions aroused about his death too. His death needs postmortem to find out the cause of the death. There is indication that both parties were preparing for this after Amparai. There video militants ask weapons from Hakeem, he was not calming with words, but expressed Muslims were cheated, an action oiling the fire.

“Also in building national reconciliation among all ethnic and religious communities in a durable manner the support and involvement of all major political parties have to be obtained as much as possible whoever the government in power. The need for a broad national approach going beyond partisan considerations is necessary for national reconciliation. The equal need is for all political parties to stop unfounded accusations and political bickering in such a crisis situation. “ What a gimmick this talk is! They did this talk when IC wanted them to givr back taken away Tamils rights. Then Ex. State Secretary Kerry forcefully pasted SLFP and UNP and formed the Yahapalanaya Unity. Right away Joint Comedy Club split on opposing the Secret Solution. Old Royals is now riding on the GLP’s Slap Party. Isn’t this guy bringing the same talk hoping to fool IC once again?

“ Although we say it is only a minority that indulge in communal violence, which is true, “ Who is this “we”? Is that those, who consulted old Royals how to carry out War Crime?

“ However, the rising ……. Racism in general … are beyond the main political parties………. even the SLPP……….. In this context, the statement issued by Mahinda Rajapaksa as the leader of the Joint Opposition denouncing violence should be appreciate “ Comedy Thamai. Does this guy know there was election Lankawe on Feb 10th? And does he know anti- minority fanning was campaign these? This will not hide the fact that Old King pinching the child and ricking the cradle. He is not Comedy club leader. That is Denish.

“ Third, there should be a religious leader summit and an interreligious dialogue to iron out and dispel misconceptions and build unity and solidarity among religions. “ How a religious leaders’ submit can resolve this nasty culture of loot and eat culture? Is Indian Pakistani Citizenship is a religious issue? Is “Sinhala Only” (Tamils employment) is a religious issue? Is Standardization is religious issue? Is the war crime in Mullivaaikkaal a religious issue? The Lankawe Rapist Army took that name because UN has rated it as one of the world 22 armies use Rape as Weapon. Could Kandy Ayatollahs can call the Rapist Army Commander and speak to clear that name by punishing the wrong doers?

“ There is much talk against the American Peace Corps coming again to Sri Lanka. Instead, Sri Lanka could have its own Peace Corps, “ American Peace Corp is let in because American GSP+ is gone. EU’s GSP is under pressure. Ranil tried many times with Mr. Modi for GSP+. Though India has been giving many freebees from the time the war started, but ready only for ETCA.
Many times stretched out Tamils hand with hope and tenderhearted has been burned and returned. Crooks will agree for no Pact. IC has to send UN peacekeepers and separate Tamils to go alone. Muslims make up their mind.

    Dr.Fernando,

Recent Anti-Muslim Violence & How Best To Curtail Them.

Sadly the only way to curtail them is by GENE Mutation.. It is in the Sinhala Gene and the only exception are people like you who are only a tiny minority. Just look at the elected crooks MS & RW ( who have broken every promise they gave to the UN) who are protecting the deposed crooks MR and the cohorts who are on their way back.
Sad but true and it is 3000 year old itch.
