By Granville Perera –
The once good governance champion and current President Maithripala Sirisena is becoming the reincarnation of despot Mahinda Rajapaksa. His 90 Million expenses bill for his New York visit and the entourage of 60 to Thailand are just the beginning of a planeload that would accompany the President in his next sojourn, fully paid by the taxpayers of Sri Lanka. Sirisena’s infidelity of his pledges in the run up to the January 15 Presidential election is a reminder of the first days of the Mahinda Rajapaksa presidency.
The disgusting mug shots are back, and now it’s that of President Maithripala Sirisena who is beginning to blush from every lamppost and television screen. The 80ft cutouts are the only missing paraphernalia. Will they appear soon?
Sirisena, it is believed to have demanded from his men in the Sri Lanka Freedom Party (SLFP) that posters and banners were put up to welcome him from his triumphant visit to New York where the international community elevated the President Sirisena of Sri Lanka to the top of the Moringa oleifera tree, known popularly as drumstick or Murunga tree to achieve their goals of ensuring the demands of the global Tamil Diaspora. This call by the Tamil Diaspora and the International community was totally rejected by the previous Rajapaksa administration, hence their incarceration to the dark hole of the United Nations. If it is a diplomatic coup that Sri Lanka achieved in New York, was it the work of Maithripala Sirisena and the SLFP or was it the sweat of the United National Party government? The only thing he did not do was to get off the aircraft and kiss the tarmac as was done by Mahinda Rajapaksa, when he returned to the country after our gallant forces finished off the world’s ruthless menace, the Liberation Tigers of Thamil Eelam.
The country kicked out Mahinda Rajapaksa, probably because he overexposed himself. Now, Maithripala is on TV every hour, especially with the bootlicking Sirasa network that propelled Mahinda Rajapaksa to believe that he was king indeed. Mahinda Rajapaksa’s rejection by the public should be a reminder to the leaders who forget their solemn promises in their election pledges. It is reported that President Sirisena’s daily helicopter rides (averaged at 3 per day) is second only to that of Mahinda Rajapaksa at the peak of his presidency. He has become a one-man government who is interfering in to every activity. The Prime Minister who sacrificed much to seat Maithripala Sirisena in the Presidential chair and is tasked to administer the country is made a glorified clerk. The appointment of former policeman Sirisena Herath to the high office of the Narcotics control board, while Dr. Nilanga Samarasinghe, the drug buster who exposed political support for the drug trade was still in office, is evidence of Sirisena’s lack of respect for good governance.
Yahapalanaya has gone to dogs, or has dogs to come Yahapalanaya. Yes, you guessed right, the bootlicking canine kinds have destroyed any semblance of Good Governance that the most venerable Maduluwawe Sobitha Thero along with the majority of Sri Lankans dreamt of. Maithripala Sirisena is a prisoner of his own making. His promise of a Yahapalanaya was first shot in to orbit with the propelling of his mediocre brother P. G. Kumarasinghe, as the Chairman of Sri Lanka Telecom (SLT). As a presidential sibling, the chairman of the Sri Lanka Telecom and its subsidiaries, he is following in the footsteps of the Rajapaksa siblings and has become a law unto himself. Alternate media reports indicate that he has demanded a Ten million (hundred lakhs) salary from the four SLT companies he chairs. He probably would be the highest paid state executive in the country. The antics of Chaturika and Daham Sirisena are no better.
The good governance crusader, the most venerable Maduluwawe Sobitha Thero who died in Singapore last Sunday probably breathed his last in total disgust at the behaviour of Maithripala Sirisena and his national government rogues. In the last days of his life, he was depressed and a mental wreck because of the betrayal of Yahapalanaya. No other religious leader has contributed to political reform as the peoples Monk, the most venerable Maduluwawe Sobith Thero. His humble beginnings and his love for the down trodden was the driving force in his reformist and non-racial approach to governance. He loved the Sinhala, Tamil and Muslim citizens alike. Let us resolve to follow in the footsteps of this beloved monk and ensure that the commitments of Maithripala Sirisena and Ranil Wickremesinge, prior to January 2015 are honoured as a tribute to our most venerable Maduluwawe Sobitha Thero.

This is ‘appe aanduwa’, pure and simple since independence, good governance is the new label for the same brew.
You can never straighten the dog’s tail; that is the Sri Lankan state and its political actors.
Actors come and go but the same Sinhala majoritarian drama continues.
Do they care for the masses; Sinhalese, Tamils or Muslims?

My wish is MaRa to retire completely from politics and become a high calibre Buddhist Bikku like Ven Sobitha Thero. Sri Lanka needs such Bikkus to eradicate both material and moral corruptions. Ven Mahinda Thero can have a check on the current yahapalanaya.

MARA as a monk dishing out non-desire, non-revenge, intelligence (vs superstition)? You must be joking mister!

Like hell it would be if Mahinda becomes a priest. Please do not insult the peoples monk Sobitha. Mahinda cannot even fall at the feet of a noble monk

If MR wasn’t the president there would be no monks or Buddhism in SL, and we all will be praying with Hindus. So have some respect for the man who defended your country, people and religion. If Prabakaren won the war for his people he would be a god among his people.

What can you expect from Sirisena? For 40 years he was nurtured in the murky politics of the SLFP. And he was sucking up to Mahinda in the last 10 years through every dastardly act, including the amendment to the constitution which was done for no other reason other than to perpetuate Rajapakse rule. For all the sanctimonious utterances, Sirisena is very much a part of the corrupt system.
At the rate he is descending, I would not be surprised if Sirisena decides to contest the next presidential elections.
Ranil, on the other hand, could well be setting up Sirisena to fail and fall and run for the top job when the time comes.
In the mean time Mahinda, through the good use of his “files” keeping the current mob in government from pursuing him on any corruption issue. Yes, they’ll make a song and dance about hauling MR and his cronies through courts, but it is just a charade. I bet my bottom dollar, that nothing whatever will happen to anyone on any corruption charge.
Mihinda’s endgame is, of course, to have his odious son takeover the presidency in the future.

The innocent voters who were duped by yahapalanaya should now wake up, protest in the streets and oust the treacherous Sirisena and Ranil. Sri Lanka deserves better leadership and there would be many, amonst the young who can lead.

Who needs a circus when you have a government like this?
Who needs a clown when you have PM like this?
Who needs a zoo when you have a parliament like this?
Who needs a Higher Education Minister when you have a Police like this?
Who needs Maximum force when you have a minimum force like this?
Who needs action when you have reports like this?
Who needs Diplomats when you have sons like this?
Who needs pirate ships when you have an Avant Garde like this?
Who needs to rise up with Mahinda when you have Sirisena to sleep with?

Sumeda Ratwatte,
That is why we need MaRa to become a Buddhist Monk on the 18th Nov. On this day he can announce that he also has resigned from SLFP for good.
Then he can bring down Maithiri within the next 2 years but he must confess to the public that he has given up his desire of making Namal as SLFP Presidential candiate.

Sirisena Cooray / November 11, 2015
The Maithri factor in the Ranil government is on the verge of collapse. A group from the SLFP including SB have started negotiations with MR and will soon bring in a no confidence motion against the UNP and attempt to take over. There are number of UNPers who will cross over for the right price offered by MR.

The end is near for the wickramasinghe government. Maithri will become the Iron man as granville predicts. Wickramasinghe does not relate to people. Now his royal boys have taken over and only his boys club have any say.

Granville Perera : Is kissing the tarmac or your motherland, wrong, especially after freeing it from the curse of Tamil Terrorism?
Oh and serves you people right for bringing in a Gold Fish into power. Look where the country is at now?

Kissing the tarmac and the soil is perfect for people who have achieved victories. Neither Mahinda nor Sirisena deserve to do it. It should have been Sarath Fonseka during the end of the war and Ranil now for the new york victory. Sirisena would not be able to even shake hands with world leaders if not for Mangala and Ranil

It’s time we find our own Arvind Kejriwal of Aam AAdmi party (of Indian politics) who defeated the powerful Modi empire to win the government in Delhi.
I suggest Wijedasa Rajapakse to resign from UNP and form a party on similar lines. If one study his parliamentary career, he has always stood against corruption and was a fierce critic of MR governance. The way he behaves in Yahapaalana govt. reminds me of a silver lining in the dark cloud!
