Remove Sunday Newspapers With Illegal Polls Related Propaganda From Stands Immediately – Elections Commissioner

Elections Commissioner Mahinda Deshapriya in a special letter has instructed media institutions to take several measures, including the removal of some Sunday newspapers from outlets, which had been released to the market on Friday.

The Commissioner has said that these measures have to be taken to ensure the non-publicity of election related propaganda on the eve of the polls. All election related propaganda had to end from Friday midnight as per the law.

However several newspapers slated to come out on Sunday had been released to the market on Friday, ahead of the ban while carrying out extensive polls related propaganda.

Commissioner in his letter has said that media institutions should take immediate steps to remove such papers form stands without delay.

Also he has told electronic media institutions not to mention any details related to the stories appearing in such newpapers in their news related programmes.
