Ven. Maduluwawe Sobhitha Thera has met the Elections Commissioner Mahinda Deshapriya to voice his protest over the distribution of Sil Cloth by UPFA Kurunegala district candidate and former President Mahinda Rajapaksa at several temples in Kurunegala on Saturday.
While pointing out that there have been several other polls law violations on the eve of the parliamentary elections the Thera has urged Deshapriya to take immediate action to prevent such occurrences.
According to a close aide, Sobhitha Thera, who heads the National Movement for Social Justice had told the Deshapriya that so far the 2015 parliamentary polls has been one of the most peaceful and wellbehaved ones and had urged the Commissioner to take action to prevent any untoward happenings in the eleventh hour.
An election monitoring organization, Campaign for Free and Fair Elections (CaFFE) has lodged a complaint against UPFA Kurunegala District candidate and former president, Mahinda Rajapaksa accusing him of distributing white Sil cloth at several temples in Kurunegala on Saturday and thus violating election laws.
Sobhitha Thera played a prominent role in introducing Maithripala Sirisena as the Common candidate to oppose Rajapaksa at the 2015 Presidential elections.
In the general elections his movement with other civil society organizations organized islandwide meetings to educate the voters on the importance of electing candidates with a clean slate. In a belated move former President Chandrika Kumaratunga too joined the above campaign organized by several civil society organisations.
The 2015 parliamentary polls will be held on Monday.

The Ven. Maduluwave Sobitha Thera, who heads the Movement for a Just Society, today met Elections Commissioner Mahinda Deshapriya and encouraged him to keep up the good work he was doing in making sure that this election was free and fair.
He told journalists after meeting Mr. Deshapriya that the elections commissioner had to be consistent when handling the complaints he receives of election law violations.
The Thera said he made several complaints against certain candidates though he would not disclose any of the details nor their names.
He said the instructions issued by the polls chief to the state electronic media not to repeat telecast the letter sent by President Maithripala Sirisena to ex-president Mahinda Rajapaksa was commendable.
Meanwhile, the Thera urged voters to carry out an unprecedented revolution so that Sri Lanka could enact a new constitution, a Right to Information Act, a National Audit Amendment Act and Electoral Reforms through the 20th Amendment.
“Let August 17 be the beginning of a new journey for Sri Lanka with a new political culture pervading the country,” the thera told those who were outside the Elections Department.

16.Aug.2015, Kurunegala district UPFA candidate Mahinda Rajapakse had yesterday (15) gone to several Kurunegala district temples and distributed Sil robes . When everybody is aware that election activities of all candidates must cease 14th, this candidate who is notorious for violating election laws all along , and a byword for lawlessness and hooliganism even during the days when he was the president of the country had wantonly and brazenly committed this wrong.
Mahinda Rajapakse along with a group had gone to Kurunegala Baudhaloka Pirivena yesterday morning with a large quantity of Sil robes and made this distribution unlawfully. He had also gone to another temple in the same district and distributed Sil clothes despite the STF obstructing and objecting to this ilegal activity.
In like manner Mahinda Rajapakse and his group had travelled to Wariyapola, Demataluwa, Dikwehera, Wedanda, Colombagama and Randeniya temples in about 12 vehicle displaying his candidate number , and distributed Sil clothes . It is learnt that today(16) too this illegal distribution is planned.
UNP election chief monitor Karu Jayasuriya and CaFFE organization had lodged a complaint with the Elections commissioner Mahinda Deshapriya regarding this ourtrageous and grave election law violations.
Mahinda Rajapakse who is by now regarded by one and all as a devil incarnate practising all the cardinal sins on earth including murdering , robbing,protecting rogues and criminals, violating laws brazenly , engaging in murderous and criminal activities is still unable to learn a lesson, or abandon his satanic propensities even after plunging his own people and the country into the deepest depths of despair through these habits and evils even when he was the president of the country. While all others are abiding by the laws, and in all other areas of the country laws are being upheld , Mahinda Rajapakse had proved beyond doubt the abusive epithets used to describe him are absolutely true . His shemeless unlawful actions are punishable grave offences under the law no matter what he distributed .
The entire country is eagerly waiting and watching what action the Elections commissioner is going to take against Mahinda Rajapakse who has proved he is not only a law unto himself but lawlessness personified.
The gravest danger is, by his outrageous disregard for the laws , he is setting a bad example to all other candidates let alone his own serious crimes committed. What would result if every candidate takes the law into his hands following his example ? The failure of the elections commissioner to take any action so far against the use of the opposition office for elections activities too is a most serious lapse, and must be given serious consideration.

Based on the Book of Protection (Paritta Sutta) from the Pali canon, the Jaya Mangala Gatha is sung here in a rare recording by the Mahabodhi Society of India in original Pali. The Jaya Mangala Gatha is a chant recommended by the Buddha to destroy negativity and to generate auspiciousness. It proclaims the 8 major victories of the Buddha which are:
1) Victory over Mara (MaRa, Mara, Mahinda Rajapaksa)
2) Victory over the demon Alavaka (Wimal Weerawansa)
3) Victory over the wild elephant Nalagiri (Udaya Gamanpila)
4) Victory over serial killer Angulimala ( Gotabaya Rajapaksa)
5) Victory over the evil intentions of Cinca who sought to defame ( Pavitra)
6) Victory over the haughty brahmin Saccaka (Vasudeva Nanaykkara)
7) Victory over the serpent king Nandopananda (Susil Premajayantha)
8) Victory over the false views of Brahma Baka (Anura Priyadharshana Yapa)
It is important to understand that most of these are allegorical stories that relate to the Buddha defeating the negative aspects of his (Mara and Alavaka) and others’ minds.
It is said that these verses if chanted with a clear and pure intention are helpful in protecting the seeker by attracting the Good around.
The Pali pronunciation here is exemplary and difficult to find.
English translation:
Creating thousand hands, with weapons
armed was Mara seated on the
trumpeting, ferocious elephant Girimekhala.
Him, together with his army, did the
Lord of Sages subdue by means of generosity and other virtues.
By its grace may joyous victory be thine.
More violent than Mara were the
indocile, obstinate demon Alavaka, who
battled with the Buddha throughout the
whole night.
Him, did the Lord of Sages
subdue by means of His patience and
self-control.
By its grace may joyous victory be thine.
Nalagiri, the mighty elephant, highly
intoxicated was raging like a forest-fire
and was terrible as thunder-bolt.
Sprinkling the waters of loving-kindness,
this ferocious Beast, did the Lord of
Sages subdue.

With uplifted sword, for a distance of
three leagues, did wicked Angulimala
run. The Lord of Sages subdued him by
His psychic powers.

Her belly bound with faggots, to simulate
the bigness of pregnancy, Cinca, with
harsh words made foul accusation in the
midst of an assemblage. Her, did the
Lord of Sages subdue by His serene and
peaceful bearing.

Haughty Saccaka, who ignored truth, was
like a banner in controversy, and his
vision was blinded by his own
disputation. Lighting the lamp of
wisdom, Him did the Lord of Sages

Nandopananda, the Noble Sage caused
to be subdued by the psychic power of
his disciple son (Thero Moggallana).

The pure, radiant, majestic Brahma,
named Baka, whose hand was grievously
bitten by the snake of tenacious false-views,
the Lord of Sages cure with His
medicine of wisdom.

of joyous victory of the Budhha, will get
