Roger, Royce And The Likes

By Helasingha Bandara

Roger Senaviratne and Royce Fernando (coincidentally R & R) are two political aspirants who claim that they want to serve people through politics, in other words by holding political office. Let’s see how sincere this claim is and how suitable they are to hold public office.

Royce Fernando

Royce Fernando

Roger Senaviratne is an actor cum politician.  His clandestine relationship with Mihira Wickramarachchi’s (a businessman) wife culminated in them starting a life together leaving their respective families. He has been sentenced to rigorous imprisonment for causing physical injury to Mihira, ironically a suspended term. Interestingly horoscopes of wealthy businessmen seem ominous these days, only the other day the wife of Salaka owner drew attention of the press being the mistress of infamous Laksman Hulugalle.

Roger, together with Mihira Wickramarachchi’s wife, broke hearts of two people and ruined two families.  He has abused Mihira’s generosity and friendship, cheated on his own wife, committed adultery and caused irreperable damage to the children of two families. The story goes on to say that MIhira has gone back to woo his wife back on the insistence of his two daughters when Roger broke his leg with an iron rod. Wimps exist and women are not happy to be with wimps. Mihira’s wife seems no exception.

However, Roger has broken norms of a civilized society by first stealing someone else’s wife (she was not a baby to be stolen, yet the expression is stealing someone else’s wife) and breaking hearts of the husband of the woman and breaking the heart of his own wife, damaging the psyche of two sets of children and finally breaking the man’s limb? It can be argued that they fell in, love, so to leave them alone. Agree, but they must live in their cloud cuckooo love land in isolation. Falling in love may not be a crime but causing physical injury to someone certainly is a crime. Since it has been proved, Roger is a convicted criminal. Criminals should not be allowed to contest elections, parliamentary or otherwise.

Roger seems a popular actor but an imbecile not to realise that a thief is always a thief. She would do it again. What about Mihira’s ex wife? Is she not more than an imbecile? Just imagine that Roger would become a politician (anything and everything is possible in the Fools Paradise). His popularity on the silver screen combined with political power would be a Casanova in the making. He will not only break her heart but also ruin many more families and break many more legs and even necks. He may be allowed nomination and he may even win.  God bless the voters!

Contrary to Roger’s somewhat likable appearance, Royce Fernando looks a marauding criminal.  He has allegedly robbed a jewellery cum money exchange shop in Negombo to finance his election campaign… He needs the money to squander on his election campaign because money can win elections in the Paradise.

Imagine he won the election with the help of stolen money and came to power! How much he would then steal from the people? One of his gang members has said that he was threatened with death by Royce. Looking at Royce’s face I fear that he could murder people. The combination of his STF training, murderous intentions and political power would be lethal generally for everyone and especially for his opponents.

These are the most recent samples of political aspitrants coming forward to govern this country. List is endless. Drug barons and drug addicts, war lords and murderers, racketeers and commission seekers, rapists and adulterers, nudes cum actresses, all are very popular. Some are popular because of their money, some are for their ability to intimidate others and others are for their bodies. None is popular for their qualifications, experience, skills, good intentions, policies or manifestos. People are not wise enough to understand the difference between good and evil. In the next ten years, instead of becoming the dream of Asia we will be Asia’s nightmare.

This is a very sensible article with accurate facts which will open the eyes of the blind Sri Lankan people changing the way they behave at the poling station.

An empty article by an obvious pessimist. Any society is consisted of a minority of criminals, a majority of neutral people and another minority of optimistic hard working people. That is valid for any country. What is this fool trying to say exactly? That Sri Lanka will fail? What a pessimistic looser!

      Liberal One,
True, your point, for ordinary people but not for law makers.
Our law makers, mainly the ones after seventies could be
called “dangerously criminal minded.” And exposing the low
quality of candidates and their selectors is a worthy cause.
Both major parties are so bankrupt that they have members
who will fall to any level for anything and this happened in
the past and worse now.Did we ever have an MP involved in
day light murder scene of another politician, witnessed by the
whole world, still sitting in parliament? No matter what the
court will say one day but doesn’t he have a moral
responsibility to resign? And as a general public, shouldn’t we
at least protest to be served by such a person? And look,he
still continues as a monitoring MP of the UDA!You know who
      runs UDA.What’s JVP?Who is SF?Now what’s even UNP?They all got
blood stained.Nobody cares anymore to change the situation
except trying to go with the tide they themselves created.

There are so many grave issues, no denying them. But from that to Nightmare of Asia? Simply bc one local politician got arrested and another “candidate” had some sort of a relationship that is none of our concerns?

Most of these pessimists are those who does nothing to improve the society or atleast their own lives in anyway possible other than bitch 24/7 about how bad the country is.

When the country’s people are stupid, the overall majority of them are real asses, they can be taken for a ride and deserve rogues like R&R to be elected to govern them. Unless the people learn to know what democracy is all about and their share in electing the right people to run the country, Sri Lanka is doomed. That is what has happened so far, and I am afraid it will continue to be so in the future too!

    To Liberal one;
Firstly you called the author a fool. That is the reflection of your own image. You sound an idiot who does not have an iota of brain matter to understand the point that the author is making. Read again. You seem to be oblivious to the truth because of your blind nationalism. How do you know whether the author has or hasn’t an improved life? It is an insult to the readership that your kind of clowns read CT who make comments like that. I have no doubt his life is much better than yours.
Open your eyes and point out one area in this country we can be proud of. What he is saying is that the majority of political aspirants aren’t suitable to be politicians. If they are voted in it will be disastrous for the country. Got it??? I doubt.

Pessimists are called pessimists for a reason no? Do you share the prediction with the author that soon Sri Lanka will be the nightmare of Asia? You don’t have any optimism about the future? Peace and stability coupled with sound macro economic fundamentals? Do you think a minority of criminals in politics alone can negate all the hard work of thousands of optimistic Sri Lankans?

You are right, I made a thumping assumption about the author based on my experiences. Taking an extramarital affair of a candidate and trying to make that into a doom prediction comes across as desperation and naivety to me.

Get it? I doubt it, inferior complexity have a certain effect on perceptions.

    Hello Liberal one
Where do you live, in this planet or somewhere else? You say peace and stability coupled with, perhaps you mean to say good economic policies. Sri Lanka is one of the poorest countries in the world. In fact it is among the bottom one third of the world despite your assumption that SL has sound economic policies. The vast majority is struggling to make the ends meet. They suffer from abject poverty. Open your eyes. Why because of poor governance and corruption. Who is governing the country and and at the top of corruption ladder? politicians. Until this is resolved we have no way forward. Your eternal optimism and the so called hard working majority would not help. The reality is what the author is talking about, use the brain to elect the right people. How ignorant you are to base your opinion only on the two examples that author has brought in. I can name so many unsuitable and corrupt politician sitting in the parliament, in fact the majority is corrupt. The author has shown you a sample only. God are you blind?
I like to be very optimistic and dream that SL would be one of the best countries in the world. Then I will only be eternally dreaming. Rather I would appreciate some one like the author to point our what is wrong with the system. I guess you owe an apology to the author for calling him a fool. You have to prove that you are worth something by being practical. The author has done his part at least taking time to write this article and getting it published. How about you. What have you done in the public eye?

Your arguments are even more moronic than the author’s original rant. I perfectly know where Sri Lanka stands and I would bet you don’t even know the per capita income of Sri Lanka and where it stands among other countries.

Sound macro economics doesn’t mean we are a developed nation, it just mean our economic situation favors growth for the short to mid term. Since I’m 100% sure you won’t get this let me spell it out for you. Sri Lanka is a poor country. But our macro economic fundamentals have been getting better and better after the end of war and specially after 2012 after the central bank decided not the defend the rupee against the dollar. It means we can grow really fast if we get our act together. Our growth rate in 2013 is not bad at all, we just need to stabilize it and then take it to the next level.

If there are so many instances why did this anti sri lankan pessimistic fool take an extramarital relationship of a candidate to predict that soon Sri Lanka would be the nightmare of Asia? No I don’t owe an apology to a pessimistic fool who while zero contributing to anything positive is just repeating the propaganda of anti sri lankan elements that are hell bent of seeing us fail.

You seem an economic expert. All you do is making assumptions of knowledge, abilities and skills of other people without the backing of any factual evidence. In this frame of mind you think I do not know what per-capita income is .Perhaps I know about economics more than your family put together. This is not about individual knowledge but about your language, about your ego centric attitude to insult others and this is all about your narrow view. Do you think that the author does not know that SL is becoming the drug transit hub of Asia allegedly favoured by its Prime Minister and his son? Do you not think that he knows nefarious activities of Mervin Silva and his son? Do you think that the author does not know about Johnston Fernando and Ethanol? You don’t seem to know any of those or you pretend to yourself that you don’t know. The author has talked about the most recent incidents that drew nation’s attention in this article. If you do not understand that this dialog is a waste of time. I am not prepared to entertain a sick mind like yours anymore. You are sick with blind nationalism and you insult people who have done indisputable service to the nation. Read Helasingha Bandara’s articles like ‘Prabhakaran Personifies Racism’ and many more like that and realise he is million times patriotic than your are. Criticism is understandable and acceptable. Insulting people is a different matter. When you make the bed you have to sleep on it. If you are prepared to insult people you must be prepared to get it back on your face. I don’t give monkeys when you insult me. But I make sure you get it back when you insult people like the writer for no reason.

In this land of high literacy, the voters decide their representative at the Parliament but its up to the political parties to select suitable candidates. By giving nominations to yobs like these, it is the party that has no backbone, allowing criminals into its membership. If a party is free from yobs, there will be enough suitably educated people coming forward as candidates.
