While steps were taken to prune the security given to former President Mahinda Rajapaksa, his one-time loyalist, Sajin de Vass Gunawardena continues to enjoy VIP security, it is learnt.

Convener of the National Movement for Social Justice, Prof. Sarath Wijesooriya recently questioned on what basis was Gunawardena granted VIP security, when he was not even a Member of Parliament.
It is learnt that the organization also took up this matter during a meeting with President Maithripala Sirisena, questioning the President as to why Gunawardena was granted VIP security. Gunawardena, switched his loyalty cap after Rajapaksa was ousted from the Presidency last year.
Prof. Wijesooriya maintained that VIP security for someone like Gunawardena cannot be justified in any way, and he criticized the national government under Sirisena and Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe for failing to live up to their rhetoric.
In May, The Commission to Investigate allegations of Bribery or Corruption filed a case against Gunawardena, for his failure to declare his assets during several years including in 2011 and 2012.

There was one question that one of SATANA jOURNALISTs kept asking was, how come a local could pay 170 lacks of rupees for the bills, if he had just been a minister in the previous regime ?
