In a shocking turn of events, the ICC today confirmed that former Sri Lankan cricket captain and head of national selections Sanath Jayasuriya has been charged with offences related to anti-corruption investigations.
The ICC said Jayasuriya has been charged with violating two clauses of the ICC anti-corruption code.

The clauses Jayasuriya has allegedly violated are;
Article 2.4.6 – Failure or refusal, without compelling justification, to cooperate with any investigation carried out by the ACU, including failure to provide accurately and completely any information and/or documentation requested by the ACU as part of such investigation.
2) Article 2.4.7 – Obstructing or delaying any investigation that may be carried out by the ACU, including concealing, tampering with or destroying any documentation or other information that may be relevant to that investigation and/or that may be evidence or may lead to the discovery of evidence of corrupt conduct under the Anti-Corruption Code.”
The former Sri Lankan cricketer has been given two weeks, from 15 October 2018, to respond to the charges, against him.
Sources close to Jayasuriya said he would respond to the allegations levelled by the ICC through his lawyers within the given period of time.
A comprehensive report on the findings of the ICC Anti-Corruption committee has been handed over to President Maithripala Sirisena, Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe and Sports Minister Fiazser Mustapha.

On the contrary the failure to co-operate with investigations has resulted in a charge of Match Fixing.
If the ‘Master Blaster’ can show substantial reasons for not co-operating and provide evidence to disprove the charge, it will leave the ICC with egg on it’s face.
But the very fact he had not or neglected to co-operate with investigations leaves room for one to doubt his innocence.
The ICC wouldn’t bring a frivolous charge against a great player unless it has good evidence to back up it’s case.

Jayasuriya may change his mind and cooperate with ICC, accept the guilt, even if there is any fines he would them and get the ICC out of his way.
