Scandals In Sri Lanka Cricket: Vote To Change The Game – Online Petition

Sri Lankan cricket fans are calling for unity to end corruption in the country’s cricketing administration, that has been rocked by scandal, financial mismanagement and personal agendas.

A petition has been launched calling on President Mahinda Rajapaksa to “liberate” cricket from the power grip of a few dubious individuals.

Cricket fans deplore the fact that ever since the appointment of the interim committee led by D.S. De Silva and Nishantha Ranatunga, cricket in Sri Lanka has gone from being one of the best to one of the worst among the top 8 nations. Their grievances, leading to the petition are as follows:

There is absolutely no democracy in how SLC operates – This point is best highlighted by the fact that its’ highest officials repeatedly get “elected” without having to stand any election!

There is no accountability or transparency in how the current administrators engage in financial (mis)management.

The current secretary of SLC has lost all respect, trust and faith the fans have in him, if there was any ever. This is an individual who had no problem taking such high positions within SLC even when obvious conflict of interests existed. This is a secretary under whose leadership the cricket board is embroiled in numerous controversies involving not just accusation of corruption and financial mismanagement, but also fall-out with national players and those officials who were elected through a true democratic process.

We are being asked to petition MR to liberate Cricket from the control of his cronies? What a waste of time. Why don’t we petition Gota to speak out against the BBS while we are at it??

      Hi Barney,
Why don’t you initiate the petition? You have already got one more signatory.

    @Bedrock Barney
Something is better than nothing. If you care so much about having Gotabhaya Rajapaksa speaking out against BBS, then why don’t you start an online petition for it?

    To each his own.

The 3rd sentence is to illustrate a point in relation to the futility of the 1st sentence. It’s often best to understand what someone before saying something back. Just a suggestion.

The 2 Dharmadasa Brothers, Nishantha and the Ranatunga mafia, D.S. de Silva, Mahinda Aluthmage – honest and the good future of Cricket under the Rajapakse regime is oxymoronic.

Whatever happened to those Gentlemen of Cricket like Stanley Jayasinghe, Michael Tissera, Neil Perera, Chandra Schaffter – all classic cricketers of yester year – and who have a wealth of administration experience to take cricket to sublime heights. Only problem is those fine gentlemen will not play ball with cheap crooks, cheats and confirmed frauds.

This comment makes sense..these cronies are the right, left, front and bak men of the president himself….However the petition asking for the chief to help also makes sense. Co’s who else would the fans ask for help from? They cant ask these idiots to resign..they cant ask the sports minister to do it, so they probably figured asking the president for this ‘publicly’ is perhaps the only way to get the attention of the only person who could yet do something….May be public pressure will force the president to look at the situation again and realize that he could not continue with his people committing day light roberry like this forever…enough is enough!!

The puppet masters behind SLC are the RajaPox family…especially Namal. When SL loses the T20 WC next year and the ODI WC in 2015, all that the SL fans will have to say is “We are lions” and “Proud to be Sri Lankan”… but not a word will be said about political interference which led to these defeats. The RajaPoxsas are like a cancer today infecting everything they touch. Its going to take many more defeats in cricket tournaments and lots more Weliweriya style incidents for the blind patriots to wake up from their kiribath induced war victory slumber.

why dont all of you who want to petition to MR, send a petition to general public to change the entire regime by casting your vote in that direction this time.

And DONT ever elect same party back again to run a second term

We should give them a little time breath after 6 yrs of plundering and looting. It’ll be some time before the new party in power start in the same line of action so we’ll save a little by changing the party in power.

“A petition has been launched calling on President Mahinda Rajapaksa to “liberate” cricket from the power grip of a few dubious individuals.”

First try to liberate the Country from the Rajapaksha and Thug family. They are root cause of the problem.

The effort you are initiating is good but you and I know petitions and protests are not even taken notice of by this regime. We are trying to initiate a petition regarding Cricket. If poor people who protested for being deprived of drinking water which is a basic human need, were dealt with in the most brutal manner and still no one is even held responsible do you seriously think this petition will even reach a Peon of His Majesty ???

By sending the petition to MR, it is like ‘horage ammagen pena ahanawa’. MR. And the clan is behind appointments. Anyone pulling the wrong way will be asked to resign. The booty is not only Nishantha R and DS’s, it is shared by the hierarchy! The rot has soaked into every nook and corner, and there are many politicians, powerful, rich, clergy, academics, entertainers and sports persons etc wanting to suck a bit here and there to get even a bit of the sap!! Stock market maestroes, BBS, Hirumburegama’s and others seeking undue appointments, Jackson’s, etc are good examples.
Forget MR he will promise to get things straight just like the b…er has told Muslims! Humbug of the first order!!

stop wasting your time and everyone else’. Next someone will start a petition to stop bribing in Sri Lanka too! If companies stop sponsoring cricket ( Ooops sorry, Mobitel is run by Sumathi-hora ) then SLC will wake up. Until then, they can play useless matches in empty stadiums because they have already been paid by the TV rights.

Anyone seriously think Sangakkara, Jayawardene and Dilshan spend hours in the nets with private coaches to win matches for Sri Lanka? No, they need to perform at the IPL and therefore their SL statistics matter because that decides how much they are worth.

Did someone say market economics ? Yes, its Capitalism at its worst but that is okay. They are allowed to earn what they can, when they can. Let’s not pretend there is any patriotism or loyalty to fans involved in the decisions they make. Call a spade a spade and don’t take us to be fools. We might be quiet but we know what is right and wrong!

there is only 100 sinatories to the petition so far. how dissapointing.
Sri Lankans are passive onlookers no wonder the Rajapakses are bulldozing through
