‘Sex And Love’ Show; Cultural Police Sirisena’s Family Was There, But He Attacks Organisers

Knowing very well that his family members have also participated in Enrique’s ‘Sex And Love’ show, President Maithripala Sirisena yesterday condemned the organisers of the concert which was held in Colombo on the 20th of December.

“The President knew that his family members were there” a source close to the Presidential Security Division told Colombo Telegraph.

Acting like the head of Sri Lanka’s “Cultural Police”, addressing a public event in Ampara last morning the President said; the show is “indecent” and “uncivilised”

“The musical show lasted only for an hour. Prices of its tickets ranged from Rs. 5000 to 50,000. they were served Beer, Arrack, Brandy and Gin. This is the power of liquor. This is how they are trying to protect our culture, Some people may criticise me talking about these issues. But I am a Sinhala-Buddhist. It’s my duty to talk about these matters,” he said.

The President also said the organisers of such indecent events should be punished for bringing artistes, who destroy Sri Lanka’s proud culture. He said the organisers should be “whipped with toxic stingray tails”- a brutal medieval punishment.

Enrique’s show in Colombo was organised by a company named, Live Events (PVT) Ltd, owned by Kumar Sangakkara and Mahela Jayawardena and radio personality Shaq.

Meanwhile issuing a statement today Kumar Sangakkara and Mahela Jayawardena said; It is extremely disappointing for us that this event, organised to assist the development of Sri Lanka as a tourist and entertainment hub and provide the public with exceptional entertainment of a high standard by accessing celebrated international artists, turned out in this manner.” To read the statement click here.

But his son-in-law Wewelpanawa Gamage Thilina Suranjith, the Public Relations Officer of the Defence Ministry has been photographed with his friends and posted by Iraj Weeraratne on his Facebook page at 3.00AM in the morning on the 21st of December.

My3 Shows very often how ignorant and irresponsible he is.

It is certain that he cannot handle every thing, most often he is the dark. Even though hundred of Ministers, there are provincial council ministers, Police and Municipal council, still any one can do what ever they want.

Because every one is for money and is dumb and they don’t know know what they are doing.

Even for kudu imports it is politicians who allows the containers in.

Sirisena has got his knickers in a twist!

One does not need to be a Sinhala Buddhist nationalist, or worried about female fan’s underwear, to be against this kind of kitch pop culture show of Enrique. Surely there are more interesting musicians with a message, to entertain & educate the culturally starved youth of Lanka.
Surely there are African artists and GLOBAL SOUTH musicians and Jazz starts to invite from Places like South Africa and Brazil???

These cricketers should set a better example by SIMPLE LIVING.

Sports, entertainment, consumption of kitch and corruption as with FIFA go hand in glove to DE-SENSITIZE people to ECONOMIC INEQUALITY AND POVERTY.
This has happened in the West and ISIL or DAISH is a response to this gross consumerism which numbs the mind of the super rich and corrupt political elite in a world where over-consumption of the few is NORMALIZED, while the masses remain poor and marginalized.

It is high time people to stand up and say, that we need to introduce code of conduct so that the future generation could learn, this is srilanka, even if our people are open to the world – we must behave like westerners in concerts.

What would those fans that threw their bras and jungis expect ? These are the girls with higher potetial of becoming future street women. Please journalists, bring me an analysis, if you would not agree with the statement. Most of the them as one or few commented on here and anywhere else, most of them waste their valuble energies not seeing it right. It is just abusing their freedom. So long the rulers or educated fractions would not find root causes of the problems of youth of the day, nothnign will work towards their progress in this country. So no wonder every 3 rd is being caught by drugs, sex abuse and alcohol in this country.

Politicians, scientists, psychologists should finally work hard to find better soltuions to the problems of the youth. Earlier is better. Today is no too late.

Pop culture is not everything and it’s not POSH to throw your under garments in public. Pop culture is softest and the most innocent looking face of the Western imperialism. High with a beer, hugging a White pop-start may be a life-time achievement for a Sri Lankan girl to whom her colour of skin and place of Birth a shame. She may learn it the hard way that behind this sexy and lovely cover, it is the money making agenda, keeping these countries always poor.

You guys should have got this guy, George Carlin — Religion is Bullshit.

No girl or women would have thrown their bras and knickers, and prayed for a Divine Plan. They could have saved Rs.50,000 and their bras and knickers too.

George Carlin the Mark Twain prize winner for services to comedy gives a unique insight into religion and God in this thrilling piece.

Different Viewpoints: on Music.More Confusion ..

      https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CZXLOcQ-LYA

If listening Music is haram (not permitted) then where it stated in Holy Quran? Dr. Zakir Naik

This guy says, Music Intoxicated, and make women throw their bras and knickers at men as per Quran. What does the Bible say?

He is following the wahabi school of thought music is halal (permitted) though the scholars are few but they have said it that music is halal. if you ask him about homosexuality he will say that its haram (not permitted) while how come its haram which is natural .and there is not any verse in quran that directly says that gays are not allowed.

Are the Wahhabis correct, even though they follow the Satan?

Do they believe in evolution? No!

Is evolution correct? Yes, true!. The data and fossils support it.

    Enrique’

At least these was one happy Sri Lankan girl who got the kisses.

There was another girl who got her bra donated.

Now both girls can dream about Enrique for some time.

The other girls ate still dreaming.

Can’t they have fun? Is Sri Lanka Wahhabi Saudi Arabia?

      “Can’t they have fun?”

what!! with a retired principal lookalike as president.

do you know why god created death? When he first created humans he gave them 1000 years of life. Then he found that they don’t like change. So how was he to change the planet and progress with them.So he reduced the life span to about 40 so that the new generation will embrace changes and the old generation aren’t there to block them..As the planet started to progress and change a lot god has relented and now has increased the life span gradually to about 80.Imagine the changes that have taken place in the last 1000 years. If god had not created death would it have taken place?

if we start ditching our outdated thinking and embrace the modern world and change with it as we get older we might easily live upto 120 years.

They can but not to the manner Berliners or Newyorkers would do.

This is srilanka. Just because few thousands of fans are ready to go naked for visiting singers – they must not betray lanken cultural values.

This is not latin america, nor London, Frankfurt or any other places gay or lesbians and intoxicated fans or groupies go amok in their way.

If srilankenken would be infected by the culture, there is no future for this country.

“there is no future for this country.”

i agree with you.we must select a better quality of parliamentarians to represent us.Not murderers, gangstrs, bribe takers, nepotists etc.The problem is the political culture.

BTW what is your age? Before you tell me that is not my business look at it in the context of my comments on this issue.

Goraka, if you have no control over your wife and daughter going to these concerts and misbehaving, the title alone should have given the game away, you cannot later complain at what they did. The youth all over the world behave far worse and Sri Lanka is just catching up when they have only just started going out after dark afterr 30 years of repression.

Those people who are caught by so called colombo culture, would nt and cant see beyond their nose.

They are just happy – even if their lovely ones would have been stripped by those starts on a public stage. Their values are within colombo city limits.

Why at all to permit the kind of so called latino stars (though their popularity on the west is not that high right at the moment)to a country where majority of people s income has been not even 5 dollars a day ? Numbers can be over 70% of the population earn that low salaries.
Just to please few thousands of colombo hippy like communities who would not know even the culture of island nation. Besides, these few thousands of lankens restricted to colombo culture are no good to nation. They would not care the real values of the lanken culture… Who would do even anything low level thing coming from the west ? They just want to be part of the west…. my foot. .. Westerners on the other hand abuse our locations to promote what they are not allowed to do in their countries. SO should we be captured to their tricks ? Naivity is above their personalities of those bra throwing women of colombo. Just because they speak English means everything for them actually. These fractions cause deterioration of the society – no doubt about that.

I am not yet 60 years old. In my days in SL, we really enjoyed real srilanken values. Today, when visiting the country, I always feel it is infected by evils of the west. They dont take good values from the west, but evil ones only. As the americans use unpopulated geographical corners of the world to experiement their nuclear tests, those singers or the like ones abuse innocient poor countries to multiply their sums by giving concerts of that kind. There should be a code of conduct to this nation, they abuse the freedom if this would let go this way.

Last 10 years were the worst in the history of the nation, even if MR regime could open new roads to the south, but failed to open the real ones to the hearts of the educated masses of the nation. So long poverty is governing, you cant achieve good values, but there should be a way of uplifting the poverty of a country. Rajapakshes had no whatsoever system. Ape miniha principle allowed any minor criminals or abusers to become multi murder criminals. Any uneducated ones to become thugs and collect sums as no other times. Even today, there are no records, if investigators would seek them. But in the same time, Rajapakshe to go to churches, temples, prisons by showing that his hearts is with them- is functioning. Is this the real heart feelings of Rajaakshes or the like abusive men of this nation ?No.
The day Rajaakshe will have to face it is right at the corner. For all the mess, corruption, murder etc, they should be punished.
Recalling they allowed indian actors to be present durin gthe election campaigning of Rajakshe last time, I felt, people of this country should be so stupid. Anyways, poor people are vulnerable to anything. That is common to Asiens, Europeans, Africans or even americans. That is what we got to see in srilanka. They would do anything for money. They become lanken kind of beach boys, when they are asked to vote for good ones. They are mixed up with feelings, politicians abuse them without any heart feelings.
I hope not the same would be the for the next few years to this island nation.

so you are living in the west, but hate it.Like some of the muslim terrorists who attack the west with bombs after coming in or their parents coming in as refugees. You should go back and live in srilanka without trying to have the cake and eat it too.

everything is not black or white in this world and there are shades of grey too.Since your lifespan has come to nearly the three quarter mark you should try to change with the times without suffering with paranoia. For example you may be against gay marriages too,but gays are also human and have rights just like all of us and whether you try to block it or not that is the way the world is going and god has created death for you so that you can’t obstruct change forever.

Before Enrique, we had some other Latino Stars, we had Don Lorenzo de Almeida, who came uninvited, and his buddies and successors stayed from 1505 to 1658, and stayed put.

Look around. You will see Almeidas, Fernando, Silva, Corey, Rodrigo, Diases, etc. the former Enriquee, and they threw in more than their bras and knickers.

Is endemic corruption “lanken cultural values” ?
What problem you have with LGBT people ?
Do you know “lanken cultural values” Sri Lanka has one of the highest rates of Alcoholism in the world ?
Do you know “lanken cultural values” Sri Lanka also has some of the highest rates of suicide in the world ?

          Protest about that !

If this Bra-Gate is such a problem for you, then you have serious issues much greater than “lanken cultural values”

Sri Lanka also ranks high in viewing porn. So much for our culture. Throwing bra is outrageous but should state control our morals and where would it end. In any even, like all cultures, women will be the target of the cultural police if they establish one. Under the vagrants ordinance it is the women who loiter are caught by the police. It is the women who are caught as prostitutes and not their clients.

Governments cannot legislate morality. There is nothing great about our values whether it is related to sex/ violence. We should not give mpre power to the government

      My3,

      Yes.

That is called brassiere; she is called daughter of Air force commander; I know not how to lash my son and son in law

It was none other than the daughter of the Sri Lanka Air force commander who darted from the rear stage at the concert in Colombo to kiss and hug Latin Amercian pop singer Enrique Iglatius most passionately and publicly while he was performing . Believe it or not ,this youngster, Ayendra Bulathsinghala is not only the daughter of Gagan Bulathsinghala the present Air Force commander whom president Maithripala appointed even ignoring the monumental opposition mounted by the whole country against that appointment, but is also the prospective daughter in law of a wheeler dealer Wegapitiya the money launderer for the family of Sirisena .

      All in the Family!

      Well done, Sir.

In the meantime, the girls had some fun.

“It’s parenting for the country as well as for his family. I commend President on this”.

Kumar, would you like the President telling you and your wife how to live and love? Would you tolerate it?

I have stood by this President on many matters where I think he was pilloried on trivial matters – even taking on the Colombo Telegraph in the process – but this is one instance where the President has seriously slipped up getting entangled in an absolutely unnecessary matter which is not a matter of state.

Is he trying to become Sri Lanka’s undisputed moralist? And does his government want to promote tourism here as well?

The wild acts of some spectators is not the doing of the organisers nor the performer. If anyone was misbehaving or being a public nuisance, they should have been taken in by the Police, without such a thing being made into a massive Presidential drama, with the President reading the riot act from centre stage.

With his uncalled for outburst, he has just about underlined what a small, insignificant banana republic this place is!!!

Today’s newspaper headlines are all about the President banning this type of shows henceforth. He is supposed to have said he will not allow such ‘sex and love filled’ shows (or words to that effect) in this land ever again.

Do future organisers have to give an assurance that no bra or underwear will be thrown on stage by the thousands of women in an audience? What a cracking joke!

Does Maithripala Sirisena know how many bras and front door keys were thrown at Englebert and Tom Jones when they were performing all over the world, donkeys years ago? Those are the very same countries this President believes have given rise to very decent societies.

My advice to the president is, stick to what you know and stick to matters of state. In the meanwhile have another very good look at your advisors. They are misleading you, and of course you will not know because you don’t know the subject !!!.

Well Kumar, good parenting is not about preventing children having fun. It is about bringing up children without bias and to be good and humane citizens. On that account show me a single parent in our so called country with a glorious past who has brought up a good child.

Go back to your cave Kumar and meditate.

      Kumar,

I do not commend the President on this at all. His outburst was fully unwarranted. It is not his business.

President’s unwanted comments were symbolic of the utter moral hypocrisy of this country.

We live in a country where the vast majority lives off less USD 2,-per day. Where anyone with a political connection abuse all others with total impunity. Where AG’s dept is totally corrupted. Where the Police has taken years to investigate a ruthless murder of a famous rugby player. Where those who have swindled billions dine in Parliament. Where people are being tortured in Police stations all over the country every single night. Where many have gone missing never to return. Where killers walk free..

Where’s the fury? Where’s the moral indignation?

Moral hypocrites are worried about somebody’s underwear at Pop concert. All of a sudden. This is a total sham. Please give me a break.

      Cheers!

Setting your boundries in a society comes from parents and other leaders.
Freedom doesn’t mean to behave like that in public. What about our children.
President is correct in saying this and I do applaud him.

        • 4
          0

          Kumar,

President’s comments on this matter was a master stroke. In terms of politics. President is a politician. Through and through. He tapped into a massive voter block with his remarks.

However, his own son was educated at prestigious Royal College in Colombo. Currently in the UK. His son was no stranger to Colombo’s night spots. Does the President control his son’s nightlife in the UK? What if he frequents London’s pulsating Latin night clubs, where Enrique’s music rules? His son-in-law was also seen at the Enrique concert.

I like the President. But, hypocrisy is hypocrisy. Whom are we fooling exactly?

Besides, real criminals are sitting in his Cabinet. An undergarment in the air or an innocent kiss harms nobody. So, calm down everyone.

Kumar, how does this concert affect your children? Are you going to ban your kids from watching Youtube videos?

To attend Enrique’s concert one must be 18 years old. Which means legally adults.

Kumar, who are you to tell other adults which concerts they should go to or not? Think about it.

          Cheers!

            Dear Ben,
Public and private behaviors are separate.Society’s value are expressed in public and Sri Lanka is a country with tradition. It may change but it’s better to be exemplary and what if everyone behaves like this in our
            concerts from now on….
Parents and leaders should endorse good habits & manners.

He said the organisers should be “whipped with toxic stingray tails”.

The organizers are Sinhala Pullies. They deserve the New King pick a Thirukkaivaal and scratch of the skin on their backs. But what about White Pulli who was on the stage?

Only solution for this is Port City project with Chinese Visa’s. If it comes through, you don’t have to pretend that you are a “Sinhala Buddhist” . Let it go ahead sir. Then you will be respected more for your double standards.

Will you make sure before Chinese Entertainments starts in Port City you will ensure that the same cultural policing laws of will mainLand Lankawe will apply in Port City too?

I understand the in built reason of your prejudice and hate, but, just because you are a Sinhala Buddhist , you don’t have to be an arrogant comedian; Do you? Even b>Sinhala Buddhist , may need the EP taken from you otherwise you are about make it only for you and your family.

    Comedies Thamai.

You are the CC Sampanthar marketed in North-East as a person will be ruling by law and today has the TNA destroyed.

Are you the one promised to rule by Law in the election, in addition to remove nepotism? Isn’t that of of cruel thinking comes into your head because you are “Sinhala Buddhist” .

You mentioned that you are a “Sinhala Buddhist” . My assumption for that is you have an obligation to rule the Island as it has been said in the script of “Sinhala Buddhism”. One thing I can observes is that you wanted to ensure not mix up Buddhism with “Sinhala Buddhism”. I do not have arguments at this time to differentiate this statement from Old King’s statement that claimed “there are minorities in Lankawe”. Old King denied the existence of minorities, but he did know there are talks about minorities, but apparently, it seems to be that you are relieved by that kind of torturing thoughts and you don’t even get thought of minorities. But I have to remind you that you are not the one to rule the island where Tamils, Muslims, Malay and Burgers and Christians Hindus and Islamic peoples are living.

The organizers were muslims, (Riyaz Shah Jahan and Imran Saibo) if you really want to pursue that line. The sinhalese duo were just investors.

A dangerous line to pursue, though.

Muslims are Muslims where ever they come from. They vote en-block in which ever part of the world they reside. It is “Blasphemy” for one Muslim to condemn another. Sinhala Buddhist have a marriage of convenience with the Muslim- Don’t you feel the rule from 1948??

Man, I never heard a word, coming from those powerful lanken muslims, at the time, Rysana was beaheaded….NOR have I heard it from them.. at the time, one another is about to be stoned to death.

thatwas 2 years ago- Rysanna was subjected to a barbaric acts of sharial law.. Current govt has done their superb service by reaching the barbaric Saudi authorities in terms of saving the next from being stoned to death.

I think we as a nation – coming from an another devleoping nation, whose majorities still live under poverty lines, must not enjoy the way the western rich folks do. Daily wages of the average is not even 5 dollars. But letting colombo hippies to enjoy and abuse this way is no means accceptable.

Those concerts must not be welcome to srilanka any more.

foreign employment bureau Director Upul Deshapriya needs a kick up his. He is taking the full credit for stopping the stoning. It just was the woman’s luck and timing that for the very first time a Saudi Prince High Commissioner at UK made a press statement and it came on Yahoo- he got a bashing from British public because he threatened to cut business if we did not stop pelting stones at Saudi. Saudi is sinking – last year and this year too $100billion budget deficit Therefore for the first time they are going to employ taxes VAT etc. Top it the full scale war at Yemen is running in 100’s billions and it’s not going to end. Price of Oil is low to fight American tech as America is now no 1 exporter of Gas.(go read economic papers) The Muslim council submitted a letter clearly defining the aspect of Sharia law in this case- there they found it was appropriate to not stone her to death- they don’t need more problems with a servant when war and resources problems are coming home to swallow them- In 7 years there won’t be oil at Saudi because they are pumping full to fight American new Tech fracking which is subsidised. Yankees are multicultural therefore no one can beat USA.
So in short the public (HC Saudi would have read CT too because its London reg) won the day not the GRAFT government of Bodhi Sira and Bathalanda ranil.

If we don’t like the young throwing their Bra’s at the entertainer, we can make sure they can join the show without Bra’s.

Surely Bodhi Sira’s babes wouldn’t have paid LKR 35000 to watch Englesi Ass ..Right.

What I would like to know is who paid for their tickets?..

Are they the guests of the Ministry of Crabs,Perpetual, BOC HSBC or Sir Nihal who just got a cheque from Galleon.

Were they in the same corporate box with Aloysious and Mahendran?..

Also whether Chatthu went to the concert and see how our Lankan chicks were throwing their bras and kissing Enlesio on the lips.

This is important because I am a recent convert to Chatthu after our , Batalanada’s hand picked Elite Beauty really pissed me off by her serious HR violation of a Dalit by her Black Defenders.

And bragging about it on Hiru TV…

“But I am a Sinhala-Buddhist. It’s my duty to talk about these matters,” he said.”

good that he clarified that.I was under the impression he was a tamil bhuddhist as there are so many tamils who are bhuddhists in srilanka.

maybe the sigiriya frescoes with the bare breasted women was not in the sinhala bhudhist era.

It was queen victoria who brought in her victorian prude ideas to get rid of our sinhala bhudhist nude ideas where women were usually bare breasted and a offer of hospitality could be even the wife or daughter.

BTW what did Lord Bhuddha say about sex?Not to do it for the general population or what?I remember from what i have read of his teachings he did say not to kill any living thing. How many humans, let alone animals that the sinhala bhuddhists have killed since the advent of bhudhism.

maithri is confusing the shit out of tamil bhuddhists like me who have not gone into learning about bhuddhism in a deep manner but have a basic understanding of it through light reading of what lord bhuddha really said.At least we tamil bhuddhists are not given a dose of adulterated bhuddhism, where the Bhuddhas teachings are all distorted.

    • 2
      8

Is this true ? I never thought tamils would ever be buddhists in sl. I believed they are either Hindus or Christs. This we never learnt in the schools.. did I miss this ? Man, Shankar.. what BS are u bubbling.. is that to attack Lordbuddha ?

Those who are indulgent with SEX, LOVE and drug to that manner be fallen to hell. Why to support anyone destroying indegenous cultures ?

        rarerityminds

for your informaion i go to church &christian seminars, temples and also i try to get as much as knowledge as possible about bhuddhism and what the Lord Bhuddha said. This is called a spiritual voyage before i pass away.At the end of this voyage i hope to be able to communicate with the supreme being, creator of this universe.

If you don’t search for something, then how can you find it.Religion is merely a vehicle i use for the purpose of finding out the meaning of my existence before i die,it is a means to an end,not an end by itself.hence i am a tamil bhuddhist, hindu and christian.Hope i have cleared up your confusion or have i confused you some more.

          bindu

what about a tamil who tries to practise what the bhuddha preached.I practise more of it than my sinhala friends who are not even interested in what Lord` bhuddha said and hardly practise anything that he has told bhuddhists to do,but call themselves bhuddhists.Am i not more bhuddhist than them?

Lord bhuddha was not talking about specific gods like Lord Shiva or son of god christ,he was only preaching about the correct way of living in this world. This clean way of living applies to all human beings, not only to christians who believe in christ and hindus who believe in shiva.so there is no conflict in believng in hindu gods or the christian son of god and also practising bhuddhism. They are not mutually exclusive.in fact when i go to temple in srilanka i light the small ghee lamp for kali amma and most of those who do this with me are sinhala bhuddhists. If sinhala bhuddhists can also be hindus why can’t we tamil hindus also be bhuddhists? To practise the bhuddhas teachings is to attain a higher level as a human being.Doesn’t all humans have that right or are you saying that tamls are excluded because they are hindu?

Similarly i can be a christian and hindu because jesus is the son of god,not god.

Maithri’s recommendation (as a “Sinhala Buddhist’) that the organizers should be “whipped with toxic stingray tails”, smacks more of a Taliban or Isis recommendation than that of a Sinhala Buddhist!

      7

What is wrong with naming him sinahla buddhist or srilanken in his comment ? Srilanka is a predominant Buddhist nation. I remind this how Indian Premier reacted at the time, American Actor once kissed an indian actress on the stage. That is how indians did it. They would never allow these things to happen on public stage. So what is wrong with Prez of sri lanka to have criticised the bra throwing and under wear throwing acts ? Instead, his name should be changed into Realmy3. If Barbaric King was in place, he would pfart publicly allowing any idiots to loot the nation, since Namal baby would get the large piece of the cake.

Your response is a “koheda yanne malle pol” irrelevant piece of crap!

          Regular Buddhist,
you should better learn srilanken culture AND srilanken way of life. Then only you could comprehend the message of the president.

Banjiappu is somehow right – there is nothing wrong Prez to have criticized those organizers.

          • 1
            4

Dan Fernando: You also need to comprehend English before you shoot your mouth off (like Appu and Samuel).

My comment was not to do with “SL culture and way of life”, but about the medieval punishment he advocated. You guys better realize we are in the 21st century and not under some feudal monarchy where our laws are not like those in the Isis and Taliban run areas.

Sirisena was not doing himself or the country any favors, as this has gone viral internationally.

They are all ready to meet you for English lessions in the future. I can also join you there – if my emplyoers from Germany permits me.

What areu talking about Mr Bumwhite ? Has that to do anything with medieval punishment at all ? President just requested people to be polite and protect the culture. I think any president except Meeharaka Rajapakshe would have made the kind of statements in the region. We all remember how MR behaved at the time, Kelaniya Mervin made filthy statements for a visiting high profile UN commissioner. But current statements made by Prez dont go that far the incidents like asking visiting tourists not to enter the country just because they have been tatooed buddha symbols on their arms or chests.

Over reaction! First catch all those who plundered our country. Catch all those cold blooded murderers. That’s what a true leader is expected to do … whether he’s Sinhala Buddhist or not. The bra was introduced by the West and this girl was just throwing it back and returning to our ‘culture’ … which is what we climb Sigiriya to see.
Come on Mr. President this was a world class event which went slightly wrong for those who bought tickets. But all those who are grumbling now will once again buy tickets if another world class artiste is brought down.
Please don’t play politics with everything.

The girl wasn’t born an idiot. It was the environment that made her into an idiot.

Perhaps her mother regularly throws her bra at her neighbors! Her mother probably learnt from her Grand-mother. Her grand-ma perhaps used to throw her bra at the British soldiers – who knows!

So she may hail from a family of bra throwing idiots.

We have to question President Sirisena’s judgement after this comment from him. He publicly offered UK High Commissioner post to Sanga and Sanga is one of the organizers of the event.

Considering that he offered Nimal Lansa the Kelaniya SLFP organizer post and after appointing many of the losing candidates to the parliament through the backdoor, we should not really be surprised.

He may also need to talk to his son-in-law not to attend these uncivilized and indecent events.

Be fair, do you as a budhist want to see the fans go naked just because of a visiting singer ? Man, we are in srilanka and we dont need to go after the culture of any westerners to that far. Next day, they would hold gay parades or the like in srilanka, would you support them too ?

I think president is fully right and world leaders will agree with him.

Visiting whoever has to react in compliance with the cultural restrictions of a country. Organizers should be blamed here – they had to clear any fans beforehand – srilanka -Colombo is not Berlin, Frankfurt, London or any other cities where fans should go become naked being intoxicated. These youth are the future of the country, if they would do so, who would lead the nation in the future.

President not only said the wrong thing he also offended 2 of Sri Lanka’s greatest and much loved sports personalities. This will not go down well with the masses.

In a way did President MS showed his true colors ? or was the remark came out based on the some ill gotten advisers seeking cheap publicity in Ampara

When you compare what and what is going around in Sri Lanka this is nothing. Surely President made a huge mistake. Hope he will learn from this and not assume just because he is a man from Polonaruwa he can assume everyone else will follow him on his moral ethics.

We have pressing issues to be sorted out this surely is not one of them.

Question here is Presidents remarks of how he want to punish the organizers. What authority does he have to say something like that ? just because he is the president he has no right to say such thing, next thing u will see is moda Sri Lankans will take law in to hands in a drop of the hat.

Shows that original Sinhala-Buddhist culture which begins with buggery by the lion is alive and well. Patricide, fornication, killings of Tamils and pretending that only one and a half Tamils were killed in war is an ancient practice that continues to this day. Is a thrashing with a sting ray’s tail any different from the Taliban punishment? If the relatives of the President were involved, will he thrash them with a sting ray tail as well. The Tamils can keep him supplied with sting rays as there are plenty of them in Jaffna.

The bra seems a boring standard black bra and not a lacey Victoria’s,secret brassiere. It was black so could be thrown by a black total Burqa clad fan? It could be a Rajapakse conspiracy. It could be she was too hot in the humidity. It could be it was too small for her?

Don’t blame Muslims. Lots of extremely rich Muslims booze, smoke and fornicate equally like other communities including rich English speaking sinhala and Tamils who attend American and other International schools all over colombo. Drugs, “fluffing ” in bathrooms, oral sex etc are very common amongst teenagers in Colombo. Ecstacy, Malaks types are dime a dozen.

Lots of girls do drugs . Lot of them have abortions everyday after having unprotected sex and a lot of them are openly gay now able to show up without fear. Go to Old Dutch Hospital and you can see the male hating lesbians who came back after Western education. Look at gay men being free and kissing openly. All that freedom from fear is thanks to Ranil, Sagala, Mrs Maithree W who supports lesbian and bisexuality and Mangala and their vision of a free open society where they will not be judged. Even an old now dead VVIPs grand daughter had abortions. Reality. .

If people wish to have fun – in a private ‘show’ – it is their business.
The President is getting unnecessarily involved.
There is no buddhist, hindu or christian “way” of having fun in a gathering of fans of a ‘performer’.
Let girls throw their items of underwear, if it gives them happiness.
Why this ‘narrow mindedness’ – after all, they have paid for the privilege.
Such behaviour occurs often in many countries, and is considered as ‘good fun’ & is tolerated by broad minded individuals.
The media report it but do not express ‘moral indignation’!

Goraka, you are delusional if you think sticking with your backward culture will keep us pure. If you wish to live in a democracy and enjoy human rights, people are allowed freedom to behave as they want as long as they do not intrude on other people’s freedom. You seem to look down on sexual orientation too at a time when in the last few years nearly 161 countries around the world have elected to allow same-sex marriage while in modern Sri Lanka homosexuality is still a serious offence. The best for your narrow minded attitude would be for all of us, male and female, to adopt the Muslim Hijab and walk around with only the eyes showing.

“You seem to look down on sexual orientation too at a time when in the last few years nearly 161 countries around the world have elected to allow same-sex marriage”

If not for normal people like us (not sexual deviants), we won’t have a civilisation to talk about!

      @Goraka
You are lying to yourself (or have led a very sheltered life) if you believe that none of these things existed in our country before the Westerners came here !!

Let Aiyo Sirisena, his daughter and son – trying to fast-forward the social climb – learn one thing. Class cannot be purchased. It is a thing that refines itself and gains respect through the generations. Being seen around these “society” shows in Colombo or misbehaving in 5-star hotels in Colombo at dawn does not take you up the social ladder. BTW, what is wrong in being children from rural Polonnaruwa. There is much dignity and social recognition there. You don’t have to mess around with drug sniffers, liquor drinking and smoking spoilt Colombo boys and girls to make the “apith kolamba kollo/kelli” claim.

Aiyo Sirisena should teach his children there is much value and respect in being well brought up and well behaved children from the fields of Polonnaruwa rather than trying to ape the English-speaking, drug-inflicted, smoking, drinking decadent Colombo misfits. If an example is needed look at the two children of CBK. They never frequented controversial night-spots, when their mother was President. Both ended up as well-brought up, educated children. Both gained the respect of the country.

To be honest, you are an another idiot that sees nothing beyond your nose.

Why to talk about class in an epoche only villagers and their sons and daughters are the ones that treat you hospital, engineer you in companies and unis. Man, learn to be free from the class and caste based old fashioned thoughts – then only you can even get the message that the current pres has passed to the media.
I love the country and nation being without earlier kind of classes. Sure, they the good educated bring up their children exemplary – but this is not resticted to colombo: Gone are the henemity days so give it a try to build up the nation as one free from caste and creed or any kind of social barriers but promotiing the feeling that we are all srilankens regardless of reglion, ethinicity or whatever the factor then was the scale to assess the locals. Besides, regardless of where you are – goodies become goodies… through education and upbringing.

I will concede Samuel’s right for fair criticism and dissent.
But before you do that learn to write English one can understand, and, homily that is coherent and clear. While all of us are opposed to class distinctions I expect you will agree this cannot be wished away. Aiyo Sirisena was not going to give his Chaturika in marriage to an amude-clad Paddy farmer. It is natural for him to insist
the kolla must speak some ingreesi preferably with a Colombo presence and culture. Hypocrisy, my man, has consumed many – and, that is your predicament.

It is not our secret that was thrown. It was Victoria’s secret that was thrown. We have no secrets. Please look at the Sigiriya frescoes, nothing to hide. What a storm in a tea cup?

So you too dont mind if your grand daughter throwing her bra towards anyone ?

I mostly respect your comments, but here I dont agree with you. Here we cant allow lankens to behave this way. It is not Berlin or London, it is srilanka s capital colombo.

Samere you are the `very intelligent buruva`

London is Freudian and does not permit the insanity you think by watching blue movies. Sinhala men have also made blue slideshows of poor women from the time they got hold of a camera-fact
please don’t preach you village anthem- almost all dictators came from villages.you are a petty little politician without a home at Colombo.
you never known what Colombo was like until 1983 when the baldies invaded and it has nothing to do with the west but your own bestiality breed,
        incest breed, zoophilia…..
        check your Mahawamse and Baldies.

When the low spending British tourist arrive you automatically become the slave. Why so??
Brits spend the most not the Chinese whose holidays are regulated and don’t have fun either.

when we start an economic embargo you will know what is west.- keep praying!- keep praying!

        Samarawickrema,
Forgive me if I have hurt your feelings. I am only aware to reality. Although we harp on a Sinhala Culture 2500 years old we have adopted Victorian standards only after the advent of the British. Thereafter the Sinhalese have tried to project that we have been having such standards much before stretching up to 2500 years. It is not the case. The frank truth is, prior to the advent of the British there was no family unit as of a single husband and wife. It was a case of our family where we all lived together, one big family of brothers and sisters, Uncles and Aunts, Grand Fathers and Grand mothers. There was no registration of marriages as Registration of marriage was introduced by the British. I remember as late as the ’70s there were old men and women Registering their marriages after living together. What we believe of a Sinhala Culture today is something that we have adopted after the advent of the British, who introduced Victorian values. That is why I said it is only a storm in a tea cup. It is not something to be disturbed about and you can be assured that not my daughter or even my grand daughter will do such a thing because not due to Sinhala Culture, but due to being civil. What is wrong is that we Brag about a Sinhala Culture which was never the case. This Sinhala Culture society is not free from Incest, Prostitution, Murder, Adultery, Hatred, Cruelty, Envy, Torture, so on and so forth.

With these types of behaviours, wonder why Sri Lankans get upset over rape and drunks?

if our elders knew they would have awaken to protect lanken cutlure. Today s balligeputhas would second to any kind of western shameless manias.

Even if we are open to the world, means not that we have to allow our people go naked to the same manner Londoners or Berliners woudl do. You can be open to the world, but protecting your own cultural values, latter is what president is saying. Nothing else. Whoever whatever being added to this forum. President earns a big respect making the kind of statement having studied the way future bitches of colombo have acted in that concert .

People who write critical of the President is not a representative sample of our Sri Lanka culture. They are the coconuts – white inside and brown outside.

Those young men and women behave so rude – betraying the culture would end up with drugs and brothels. That is what I have seen even on the west. May be they have sorta lower IQ being unable to see it right. Anyways, we have to respect our culture so long we are in CMBO. So would do the Italians in Rome or Vatican city. So would do the Germans in their cultural cities. They dont allow people to go naked or behaved that vulguar where that is not permitted.
