Making a despicable speech during a rally organized by the United People’s Freedom Alliance (UPFA), President Maithripala Sirisena passed a sexual innuendo at Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe saying a gang of ‘butterflies’ ruled the country under Wickremesinghe’s watch.
Sirisena said he wanted to change the Prime Minister as he could not agree with the “butterfly’ rule. “The ones who made important decisions were not the senior Cabinet ministers of the government, but Ranil and his butterfly gang,” Sirisena said, addressing the meeting.
Sirisena also said he first offered the Prime Minister’s post to Speaker Karu Jayasuriya but he turned down the offer saying he could not go against the Prime Minister. “Then I invited Sajith Premadasa to become the Prime Minister and he too turned it down saying he did not want confrontations with the party leader.”
“After both of them refused the position,’ Sirisena said, “I was looking for a man who loved the country and who could join forces with me to strengthen democracy. I found in Mahinda Rajapaksa a man who could topple Ranil Wickremesinghe and his government.”
Sirisena also said he had secured a majority in Parliament and saw no reason to turn back on his decision.
“I urge Speaker Jayasuriya, a staunch Buddhist to speak to the Mahanayakes, Cardinal Malcolm Ranjith and other religious leaders about the current situation. Act according to their advises and allow the new government to do its job,” Sirisena added.
He said Wickremesinghe was worshipping the western embassies and requesting them to intervene in domestic political matters.
He also said that he explained his position to the UN Secretary-General during the telephone conversation and the latter agreed to extend the fullest support to strengthen democracy in the country. However, the UN Secretary-General’s office, issuing a statement, contradicted President Sirisena’s version of the story and said the UN Chief requested Sirisena to convene Parliament without delay.
Concluding his speech, Sirisena pleaded Ranil Wickremesinghe to step aside and allow the new government to function.

“A despicable man with a despicable plan.”
–
A slight modification ………… “A despicable man with a desperate plan.”
–
Watch how the Rajapakses use this Einstein and discard him ………. Mahinda has already distanced himself – and is trying to get Sirisena to wear the whole responsibility for this fiasco – by saying as president he wouldn’t have done what Sirisena did :))
–
When the election time comes around Rajapakses would have made Sirisena such a laughing stock ………. it would be just ridiculous for him to even ask to be the candidate
–
Rajapakses may not be very intelligent ……… but they have the inborn natural cunning of the Southerners ……… just watch how they go to work on the poor “president”

Couldn’t have happened to a nicer guy!

Ranil would never attack him this manner.
That says almost everything.
What matters is the competence of a person. I think SIRISENA was not even to a domestic servant of Ranil Wickramasinghe s family.

Yeah, “Three Idiots” in action.
Sirisena has hired “two bodyguards.” Duties include whitewashing, laundry, shoulder carrying and promoting the boss as a good man and elevate his position.
Mahinda and Wimal have chosen to be laundrymen of an unprincipled, unethical character. Shame on you.
For 4 years, Mahinda and Wimal have shown a different picture of them as patriots. Today, I see them without the mask. It is unbelievable to see what a short time it took them to completely reverse on their opinions.
They made me cry today. Their deception is too much to bear.
With Sirisena on stage, they have shown that they are not principled politicians but third rate opportunists who will do anything for power.
I don’t see any difference between Sirisena, Mahinda and Wimal now.
Country had only two traitors before. Now four.
Ranil and Sirisena sought TNA’s and LTTE diaspora’s support for power.
Mahinda and Wimal followed the same path with only setback as Sampanthan refused to budge.
All the four have disgustingly similar traits.
Their politics should be rejected.
People should look for righteous, principled leaders.
Sri Lanka is too precious to leave for unprincipled, undemocratic, power hungry, indecent characters who call them “politicians.”
I suggest a new force should be emerged to save Sri Lanka from politicians who resort to undemocratic, unconstitutional, unethical means to grab power.
What happened to Ranil today, could be happened any other FUTURE Prime Minister who was elected through people’s votes.
This ALARMING undemocratic and unconstitutional practice SHOULD NOT BE ALLOWED TO CONTINUE!!!!!
Parliament is under threat for changing its demography by way of horse trading and coup d’états.
I call upon all MPs who respect democracy and people’s right to vote and choose, to defeat this in the Parliament.
Reconvene the Parliament forthwith, you cowards!

There you go again. At various times you have claimed to be a personal friend of WW. I have never seen him but I could have told you he was an unprincipled scoundrel not 4 but 10 years ago.
I find it difficult to believe you actually mean what you have written.

With an aim to deceive people, there is a wrong interpretation of the Constitution on the instances where Parliament could stand dissolved.
Even though the Budget is defeated, there is NO clause in the Constitution to dissolve the Parliament on the loss of a Vote. It was so before the 19th Amendment which was passed by 2/3 with the support of UPFA.
As we all know, the President has no power to dissolve the Parliament at his own discretion.
This Parliament is FIXED for 4 1/2 years!
A dissolution can only happen when the fixed term of 4 1/2 years is completed, i.e. in March 2020.
The only other instance is, if a Resolution requesting the President to dissolve the Parliament is adopted by 2/3 of the majority, which is highly unlikely in the present setting.
Although people wanted the Parliament be dissolved, there is no other way to do so under the Constitution.
NOW I am glad to see there is no General Election before the Presidential Election although it was what Maithri wanted.
This allows people to look for alternate leaders.
I don’t support PC elections as PCs are nothing but white elephants.
I don’t support TNA either (although Mahinda has endorsed them) as long as they carry the Federal Constitution and dance to the tune of LTTE diaspora and India.
However, the merge of Mahinda-Maithri-Wimal has now paved the way for all those who respect the Constitution, democracy and rule of the law to be united under one Alliance and contest.
I certainly am AGAINST THE MERGE.
Mahinda took a wrong turn by accepting the PM post and plugging with Maithri, the treacherous conveyor of the current economic, social and political predicament of Sri Lanka.
Mahinda will soon realize his folly.

I noticed two starkly different types of welcome/greetings by Sampanthan which is extraordinary.
1. Sampanthan didn’t get up to shake hands with Mahinda when the latter shook hands with him.
2. But I saw him shaking hands with Anura Kumara standing, which is the formal and most accepted and respected way of greeting.
OMG, Mr. former President and the PM, what have you done to yourself to be treated below Anura Kumara?
Oh, why Sampanthan was seated in the first place before Mahinda arrives?
Oh, I see, that means Mahinda wasn’t there to welcome him. That is wrong protocol by Mahinda. The Host should be there to welcome the guest, if the meeting is important and fixed AT THE REQUEST OF THE HOST, irrespective of the fact that the Host is a PM.
If the Host is not there to welcome the guest, it implies that he doesn’t respect the guest and the meeting is not important to him, which is an offence to the guest.
I am not talking about routine group meetings. But I must say, the respect is always mutual and it is a core value.
I am still suggesting the PM, Hon. MR, please resign with dignity! Don’t plug with Maithri.

C’mon Champa what happened, didn’t they offer you some plumb job or what? Politics is just that politics. It is about compromise to achieve the best version possible of the policy you want to push. Idealogues do not make good politicians and therefore they cannot form governments (e.g. the old left I grew up with). In your despair, if I may suggest, do some good to your compatriots who are less privileged, work bottom up, there is a lot to be done outside of the party politics and politricks.

May God rescue our beautiful country from these despicable, opportunistic, cunning, self-serving, criminally corrupt rogues. Look at those horrible clowns on the stage. From SLFP & UNP who have been keeping the blessed Garden of Eden in a stinking gutter for 70+ years counting. Sirisena’s comments about the sexual orientation of a large chunk of any society are worthy of a desperate, power-hungry, political scumbag. Sirisena is an opportunistic HOMOPHOBE on par with any right-wing, FUNDAMENTALIST religious fascist IN THE WORLD. I say that not in defense of RW or his TT crew. RW has now positively squandered a historic opportunity that fell into his lap From nowhere largely thanks to Sobitha Thero. Nothing else! SL needs to think outside the box. I can see the Butterfly Brigade [BB] has gone crazy….!
Don’t worry MS was not attacking all LGBTs, but he only took aim at the use of the status of LGBT as a political qualification over others and discriminating others by confining all political privileges to a chosen handful of LGBTs.
Lets get the facts right. No need to panic. The existence of LGBTs is not called in to question.
I hope the Lt. General of BB, Mangy can go to bed with ease with this clarification…!

Good speech. Regardless of the sexual orientation, is it correct if the PM makes decisions on the future of the country with only a bunch of his girlfriends or boyfriends? Isn’t Maithree right in his criticism against RW? He is like Caligula of the Romans. This is not an attack on gay people or Ranil sexual orientation. This is about him taking decisions with only a bunch of his boyfriends. This is the point in his speech.

Sirisena has proved over & over again that he is uneducated, dumb & not only a blatant lier but treacherous & slimy, as well. No doubt the UN Sec. General & other Western Diplomats are well aware of his ‘misrepresentation of facts’ in his explanations to the public & his untrustworthy character, which would put SL in a very bad light but teaming up with a known corrupt former head of state would put SL in the list of pariah countries, shunned by the rest of the world, apart from maybe, China.
Does Sirisena think the average man has a short memory or stupid enough to believe his ever changing rhetoric? I am sure people can still remember Sirisena’s fear for his life with MR in power & all the corruption & ethnic violence accusations he made of MR not too long ago, & now for Sirisena to expect that same person to work with him is beyond belief. The sooner SL has an election & send this yob home (prefer he goes to jail) the better.
