Sirisena Wants Judiciary To Decide On Central Bank Bond Scam

President Maithripala Sirisena today declared that the Treasury Bond scam at Central Bank must be an issue left for the judiciary to decide upon, sans interference from politicians.

Speaking at an event in Maharagama, Sirisena said that an impartial ruling without political interference will only be reached by the judiciary, hence the bond scam which cost the country Rs. 1.6 billion must be referred to the Courts.

“Politicians must not interfere in this Treasury Bond Scam anymore. It is the Court that should decide on this,” he said.

The statement comes just days after Sirisena’s very own members in the Sri Lanka Freedom Party (SLFP) called for the appointment of a Presidential Commission to investigate the bond issue, in which ex-Governor Arjuna Mahendran has been implicated by the COPE, while Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe has also been accused of covering up the incident by opposition parties.

Meanwhile, a six member Committee has been appointed by the SLFP to study the COPE report on the bond issue and submit their report to Sirisena. The six member comprises of Ministers Dr. Sarath Amunugama, Anura Priyadarshana Yapa, W.D.J. Seneviratne, State Ministers Dilan Perera and Lakshman Yapa Abeywardena and Deputy Minister Lasantha Alagiyawanna.

Meanwhile, the Joint Opposition has already lodged a complaint against Wickremesinghe and Mahendran, requesting the Commission to Investigate Allegations of Bribery or Corruption (CIABOC) to investigate both, over their role in the Treasury Bond transaction.

Sirisena is protecting the Rajapakses and in the process subverting the due process of justice.

His justice minister ignores, and allows unlawful behaviour by police towards arrested citizens by barring attorneys’ advice before recording of statements.

Sri Lanka now has a government which condones nepotism and ignores injustice.

Sirisena may be not protecting but does take aback in that regard.

If Sirisena would have been Rajapakshe – today, we would surely see, the waves of revengeful acts be placed in this country.

I salute Mr Sirisena has been high human and very thoughtful.

May be, he has to change his gentleness in the days to come, if FCID or other like inveistgations would fall further delays, but until then, he has to just leave them the commissions to do the job.

Sirisena-Wickramasinghe partnership promised people to restore the independence of Judiciary with re-establishment of Constitutional Council swallowed by Mahinda Rajapakse.

This council was initially established under 17th amendment and it had 10 members in it out of which 7 appointed from civil society choose from people with integrity and 3 people appointed from MPs.

The new regime promise to re-establish it with the same ratio (7 to 3) but it ended up with 7 MPs and 3 members from the civil society appointed to it.

This was a deliberate ploy to have a grim grip on the independence of the Judiciary with people of their choice appointed to it.

And now, having destroyed the independence, the new regime wants people to believe that Judiciary would be impartial and would decide on bond scam appropriately.

Has the President got the guts and commitment to take off his SLFP cap and wear a white cap and make sure all charges against all (including Rajapakse family, UNP, Weerawansa, Gamanpilla, others and SLFP Parliamentarians) are brought before special courts (one is not enough as there are so many cases) and judged before end of 2017?

Why ? Just because you keep eating grass/punnaku ?

He himself added – that no politics should be played in the investigations of BOND scam issue.
And we perfectly know things cant be investigated the manner as JVPrs are upto – this is srilanka not western world.

JVPrs have proved by themselves, they are no matured for lanken politics.

If they are – they should long have been given with high mandates by VERY SAME PEOPLE.

People that lost their sons in late 80ties would never allow their supporters and country men to give a chance to JVP… basta.
