SLFP Snubs Also Call For ‘Royalist’ As Opposition Leader

Sri Lanka Freedom Party snubs today made a call for the appointment of Ranil Wickremesinghe‘s Royal College classmate Dinesh Gunawardena as the opposition leader.

Dinesh Gunawardena is a classmate of Wickremesinghe at Royal College and recently participated at a ceremony held to pay tribute to the new Prime Minister and other Royalist Ministers at Royal College.

Dinesh Gunawardena is a classmate of Wickremesinghe at Royal College and recently participated at a ceremony held to pay tribute to the new Prime Minister and other Royalist Ministers at Royal College.

Speaking at the rally in Ratnapura held to call for the nomination of former President Mahinda Rajapaksa as the Prime Ministerial candidate, many speakers called for the appointment of MEP leader Dinesh Gunawardena as the opposition leader.

Earlier, Vasudeva Nanayakkara an ally of Mahinda Rajapaksa said that 50 parliamentarians of the Sri Lanka Freedom Party had signed a petition calling for the appointment of Gunawardena as the leader of the opposition.

The current Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe has been accused of filling the cabinet with old boys of Royal College.

The Colombo Telegraph earlier provided a list of key cabinet portfolios which have been designated to Royalists, including all portfolios related to finance.

Dinesh Gunawardena is a classmate of Wickremesinghe at Royal College and recently participated at a ceremony held to pay tribute to the new Prime Minister and other Royalist Ministers at Royal College.

Earlier, speaking in Parliament Wimal Weerawansa said that the mandate given to President Maithripala Sirisena had been ‘hijacked’.

“The country voted for a President, and they hijacked it and appointed a Prime Minister and then they have now got there own opposition leader. What kind of mockery of the parliamentary system is this” he asked.

The new appointed Ministers also include Royalists, including Ranjith Siyambalapitiya and Dilan Perera.

“Sri Lanka Freedom Party snubs today made a call for the appointment of Ranil Wickremesinghe‘s Royal College classmate Dinesh Gunawardena as the opposition lead”

“Earlier, speaking in Parliament Wimal Weerawansa said that the mandate given to President Maithripala Sirisena had been ‘hijacked’.”

“The new appointed Ministers also include Royalists, including Ranjith Siyambalapitiya and Dilan Perera.”

Whether they are royalists or not should be secondary to their Intellect, intelligence, Common sense, Experience and integrity.

      Déjà vu… Already seen…

Since Dinesh is one of the lackeys of Mahinda rajapaksa, just like wimal weerawansa and Vasudeva Nanayakkara, on that basis alone, Dinesh Gunawardana should be disqualified.

Should they be not appointing a Thomian?

      Simon

“Should they be not appointing a Thomian?”

Their IQs should be tested. Being elected by Modayas and Mootaals, is no excuse to select the elected Mootals and Modayas.

Is that the best they can do?

No offence to Thomians or S. Thomas’ College. I count many among my friends.

Yet, Rajapssa’s rotten administration was infested with corrupt old boys networks of that school by the sea. They were eating it from inside. From Namal, Asanga Seneviratne to Malaka Silva. G.L Pieris who was religious about the corrupt clan from Hambantota was a Thomian too.

Both S. Thomas’ & Royal College have produced outstanding old scholars over the years.

However, attending an elite institution alone is no guarantee of one’s character.

      Cheers!

“SLFP Snubs Also Call For ‘Royalist’ As Opposition Leader”

May I politely ask the writer, what is his / her problem with Royalists and Royal College?

Doesn’t the writer display a massive inferiority complex by bringing the school into such a discussion?

Is Royal College a proscribed school? Is it not a government school located in Sri Lanka? If so, is it an immediate disqualification to attend such a school and then seek public office?

I don’t know either Ranil or Dinesh, and dont care to, either. Besides I particularly think that the latter’s hysterically screeching outbursts in parliament were hard on the ear and quite loathsome to say the least. However to disqualify him by citing the school he went to, is extremely low and the editors must take blame for this tasteless headline.

“The current Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe has been accused of filling the cabinet with old boys of Royal College”.

This quote doesn’t even deserve a reply. It amply sums up what I have said previously about the mental state of the writer. A chip at least, on either shoulder, I think!

By the way, I am not an old boy of that school and therefore am not standing up for any old school tie, while expressing my opinion.

      Justice & Fairplay

“Doesn’t the writer display a massive inferiority complex by bringing the school into such a discussion?”

      Looks like that.

However, it looks more or less like Tribalism.

Royal Tribe, Yhpomosan tribe, Anandian Tribe, Tribe Tribe etc.

Sangakara was from the Trinitian Tribe, Dilshan was from the Kalutara Vidayalaya Tribe. What matters is their competence and skill set.

Do they have the intelligence and the skill set needed to perform?

Will the Sri lankan Cricket Team send Batsmen and Bowlers who are mediocre, because they were Royalists? No.

Should be the same here. Competence. Meritorious competence, not mediocrity and cronie appointments, which we have seen for so many years.

The position of leader of the oppostition should be given to Anura Dissanayke. The “new” JVP played and is still playing a vital role. This is a real opposition, not a “tamed” or “conspirating” opposition.

Anura D would be the best bet but right now JVP cannot see the forest for the trees? They only want the 100 days and call for elections. If they do not bring in rules for the corrupt to be unable to contest and or pass all the necessary laws – the whole purpose of this regime change will be lost and an utter waste. Both the JVP and the JHU have to be flexible if the people the people of this country are to be the winners. You cannot expect only the TNA and Muslim Congress to be flexible. Both UNP and MS SLFP have realized this.

Will “Thoras” be able to net the “Moras” which the Royalists are finding difficult to do..?

Care less of whether its Royalist, Thomian, Peterite, Josephian, Anandian or Nalandian… what is the need of the hour is to get the wrong doers, irrespective of creed, caste, tribe … charge em all n throw em in jail… that is what WE voted for..Yahapalanaya for the Masses is what we want not yahapalanaya for the rouges, who are taking shelter under yaha palanaya. This is insane…

So funny that these idiots have such objection for the name of school. The same jokers sat in a corner licking the bones with their tails between the legs, when Rajapakse appointed his whole family and the hench man including his gardener and the kussiamma to various posts and ministries.
Now they are barking like rabid dogs!

If there is need to change the leader of opposition, TNA leader Sampathen should be elected without any question.

Looks like we’ve elected more of the same. My investments have dwindled in value but the change in government should have been worth it, but alas no.

Some days later the prince himself was murdered by Nasser and that is what the world is facing- ISIS Boka Harem all supported by Moros from Morocco at the tip.

I am in perfect agreement with Snowden Edward Asange; The issue before the country is not about overgrown Public Schoolboys.

I thought he was a Thomian; Anyway if he was that he had disgraced his Alma Mater by his behaviour during the Impeachment process of Shirani Bandaranayake!

Wimal Weerawansa, of-course is a draggletailed guttersnipe!

The “SNUBS” know what Royalists are capable of so their call should be welcome. Dinesh didnt let his political differences stand in the way and he right “Royally” graced the occasion when his Alma Mater Royal feted the new Cabinet Ministers and MP’s of the “School of the Fathers”. See the blend who were there of all communities at this occasion MP Sumanthiran of the TNA,Rauf Hakeem of the SLMC, a reflection of the communal harmony and friendship that the school has taught to be passed down to the country at large. If Anura was around he too would have gladly have filled the gap to make the trio of class mates Ranil,Anura and Dinesh.Anyhow there is some consolation that Anura’s sis Chandrika the Bridgeteen will gracefully fill in the void
