Today 22 January in Jaffna a soldier killed Jaffna University final year medical student from Bandarawela, Roshini seen afloat at the Pannai coast. Her throat was also slit like in the 8 Mirusvil murders that included 4 child victims.
She had been sitting in the shade of her umbrella with a 30 or so year old youth, a soldier. The girl fell into the sea having had her throat slit and arms slashed.
The incident occurred around 2:30 pm. The murderer tried to flee but civilians on the streets had blocked his escape. The police and STF took over from there.
“This is the million dollar question. The President is keeping his election promise of not letting any soldier come to harm. Now when the victim is a bright Sinhalese girl, will the President pardon this army killer too?,” an observer in Jaffna said. (By N. Lohathayalan )

A soldier attached to the Paranthan Army camp had been allegedly stabbed to death his wife at a park near the Pannai lagoon in Jaffna this afternoon over a family dispute, the Defence Ministry said.
They said the victim, Hapuhettige Dona Roshani Kanchana (29) was a final year Medical Student of Jaffna Medical College.
She was a resident of Baddagoda Colony, Beruwala.
The suspect was arrested by the Jaffna Police along with a knife which was used for committing the murder.
Further investigations on the incident are being carried out by the police.

A final year medical student (29) at the University of Jaffna was stabbed to death near the Pannai Lagoon in Jaffna, last afternoon (22).

OK! The culprit was caught. Is the writer implying that the suspect was released surreptitiously on the orders of the top? Let us be fair. How many men have murdered their wives for something or the other? How many so called lovers have murdered/killed their partner? Yes! We have a lot of them in Sri Lanka and in other countries. It appears that the writer is fuming just because the suspected killer did so in Jaffna and happens to be soldier giving the implication that the top of the country is involved. Don’t forget that Jaffna was a location where a guy called “Swiss Kumar”, directly or indirectly connected to the LTTE, came all the way from Switzerland (quite a controversial country now to the average Sri Lankan) to have some depraved entertainment resulting in the killing of a girl? Wasn’t a judge in Jaffna nearly paid his life in matters incidental with that case? Although the writer in a previous article states that a soldier killer was pardoned by the present President it is very strange that none of the leading newspapers did not carry that news item. The real issue with either President Gotabaya or Opposition Leader Sajith is that how would they react in the face of a criticism amounting to questioning their personal behaviour especially linking to money or morals. Would a regime of fixing journalists commence? It is important to safeguard the vital few and that includes freedom of speech and the freedom of channels of communication, whether it is print media or electronic media. I respect the writer’s freedom to his expression of views but will not this type of cry like a cry baby prompt certain people to post an effective blockade on certain websites as applied even now?

The murderer was the young woman’s husband who is a soldier and is stationed in the Jaffna region. As per newspaper reports , he suspected her of having an affair with another student or man . This may the cause for murder. You do not murder your partner or commit injury of them , just because you suspect them of having an affair , or even if they have an affair.
