Sri Lanka Blames China For Its Energy Crisis

Power and energy Minister Pavithra Wanniarachchi blamed China for the  power shortages and high electricity prices in Sri Lanka saying the island’s biggest power station built by a Chinese company has suffered frequent breakdowns, The Business Standard reported today.

Pavithra Wanniarachchi

Pavithra Wanniarachchi

Wanniarachchi said problems with the 300-megawatt coal-powered plant, the largest single electricity generator in the country, was forcing Sri Lanka’s main state-run energy company to buy more expensive electricity from private firms.

“The coal power plant is breaking down frequently. We are asking the Chinese to fix it,” Wanniarachchi told reporters in Colombo. “These failures are not good for the image of China.”

The Lakvijaya Power Station at Norochcholai was commissioned in 2011 with the promise of reducing energy costs to Sri Lankan consumers. The second phase of the project which is due to add 600 MW of electricity is to come into operation soon. The US 1.2 billion dollar plant which has obtained the nick name of “Always breakdown” was build with high interest loans from China. The costs for this plant is paid for by the public of this county at a phenomenal interest of eight percent per annum.

According to the Central Bank the losses at the The Ceylon Electricity Board is more than Rs 60 billion.

Norochcholai is a failure, correct. But Rs 60 billion of losses were incurred in 2012 not 2013 when the government did not have the courage to increase electricity prices inline with costs. In 2013 CEB came back into profits and started paying loans taken from state banks.

      Power & Energy Minister

According to World Development Indicators (Latest available 2004)

Transmission and Distribution losses in Sri Lanka 16.73 % (2004)

Transmission and Distribution Losses in China 6.32 % (2004)

World Development Report 2009 (World Bank) says Sri Lanka had 14.58%. China NA.

It is cheaper to eliminate T&D Losses (which includes pilferage), than to generate. CEB can work it out with a pocket calculator in no time if the Minister calls for it. Policy decision is for the Minister and the Government.

good point.these dumb arses who get big fat salaries for doing nothing would not have even noticed the unusually high tranmission costs that you have pointed out.Their whole concentration is focused on how to keep the tamils and muslims as well behaved guests in the country and if they try to ask equal status teach them who is boss.

Sri Lanka aslo has very poor work ethic, most everyone one hires/contracts does a crappy job. So building anything large in Sri lanka with Sri Lankans requires training and steadfast oversight of the contractors to make sure they are doing a quality job.

A lot of the new pavements that were built in Colpetty and Colombo 7 have areas that are crooked with the bricks not cut properly . This is the fault of the contractor and the municipality for not holding the contractor accountable but the contractor is probably a Rajapaksa friend so what can municipality officials do.

The ROT STARTS AT THE TOP and trickles down in the Mainhda Rajapaksa Cabinet of CORRUPT Clowns, and rather than take responsibility they will Blame China, India, USA, UK and every one else for the debacle in every sector – energy, education, health etc..
The real problem is the CORRUPTION and IGNORANCE of the Ministers and their stooges who are in charge of the power and energy sector. There is NO clear and transparent policy making and long term planning by experts and knowledgable people.
Rather, the sector is run to maximize kick backs from hastily made tenders for the CORRUPT and UNEDUCATED MINISTERS and their ignorant cronies who function as Secretaries and Advisers in the Ministry. The previous Minister of Energy was particularly corrupt. The Mahinda Jarapassa Cabinet of corrupt Criminals is responsible for the rising energy costs and cost of living in electricity, transport sectors. Sri Lankan Airlines run by the Shiranee Jarapassa’s planter brother who knows nothing about aviation and who diverts planes to fly himself from Singapore rather than setting a better example to make the airlines accountable and profiatble as its Chairman is a disgrace and example of the rot, ignorance and corruption of the Jarapassa regime. The ROT STARTS AT THE TOP and trickles down but rather than take responsibility they will Blame China, India, USA, UK and every one else.

          Don Stanley,

Under the British this country developed where the masses received a Good Education System, a Good Transport System, A Good Health System and a Good Judicial System where Law and Order was maintained in the country to all alike. There were MPs put in Jail for Bribery. Thereafter once the Scum got in to Governance they have bungled everything and have been blaming the British for all the follies they have committed and yet continue to blame the British.

Now look at this Woman of a Minister? What education she has to be the Minister of Power? I will not engage her as my Kussiamma for that matter. Possibly someone running a Gon House might employ her.

Lol at the clueless, illiterate, british leftover that thinks Sri Lanka was a developed country in 1948. These slaves who are uneducated beyond their church school can’t even do a google search to find out what was the per capita income of Sri Lanka in 1948 and what it is now. They just parrot what the british taught their grand parents when they were servile’s of the british.

              XXX,

Lee Kuan Yu of Singapore wanted to have Sri Lanka as it’s model after we gained Independence. We had reserves to invest in the Gal Oya Dam project without having to burrow money from foreign sources. No one was dieing of starvation or eating off dust bins till a dose of Socialism was forced down the throats of the masses. Even the Poor had a house with a minimum of two rooms built on land that would not have necessarily belonged to them but to some landlord without facing eviction as it was an asset to have someone residing on the land. However with Socialist Policies, Landlords became vary allowing such tenants lest they lost the properties and many ended up on the streets and eventually moved to the Shanties in the Urban areas to propagate a Shanty Culture creating a new class of Dhugy (Abject Poverty) which was unheard of soon after Independence. Had a class of Dhugy existed, Banda would have called it a Shad Maha Balavegaya and not Pancha Maha Balawegaya (Sanga, Vedha, Guru, Govi and Kamkaru) Even the Poor had a vocation to fall back on, Govi and Kamkaru. The subsequent creation of the Dhugy by the ’70s after a full dose of Socialism, they were seen eating off dust bins, scavenging for food and this Mediocrity of a Buffoon obviously produced from the Free Education system is comparing the per capita income of a person then to today’s to prove a point. No wonder MR is cooking up figures today for these ‘Pothay Guras’ to fill their stomachs while the masses starve unable to have even one square meal per day. These Pansal Abiththayas like XXX are the ones responsible for the down fall of this Nation who have been Anti-British all along to this day, blaming the Imperialists for their own follies.

When British invaded the Kandyan kingdom there were Sinhalese who joined the british army. Yes joined the british to invade the only sovereign kingdom left in Sri Lanka! You must be an offspring of such a despicable traitor.

You altar boys are illiterate beyond your church funded school education and clueless about the history except what was taught by your masters.

lol this disciple of the imperialists thinks that our people were enjoying a quality of life equal to Englishmen when we gained independence in 1948.

Like I said get help from someone who is literate and search about the child mortality rate, life expectancy, malnutrition levels, per capita income in 1948 and today. There is a thing called Google, lol. Fact-less vague claims like Sri Lankans had home with two rooms, Sri Lankans are dying out of hunger today, our master looked after us so well are useless in a debate.

Since you seem to not know Singapore was also a British colony. Ask from any Singaporean about the state of Singapore when your masters left them. You will be unpleasantly surprised about the track record of your masters in Asia.

                  XXX,

You say, ‘When British invaded the Kandyan kingdom there were Sinhalese who joined the british army. Yes joined the british to invade the only sovereign kingdom left in Sri Lanka! You must be an offspring of such a despicable traitor.

I do not think that you can even imagine to have my linage. After Ehelepola’s family, who were close blood relations of my family were dealt in the manner, there was resentment towards the King and what happened subsequently was inevitable. Although many call it the Great Betrayal, the forefathers of those who claim so, are the very ones who have taken Portuguese names and embraced Christianity and lived under foreign power much longer than the Upcountry folk. So today, those of you, who think you all are the Great Sinhala Patriots with Portuguese names and blood, what right you have to question the Sinhalese of the Kandyan Kingdom who yet retains their Sinhala names and their faith? Is that why you have your prefix as XXX? unable to state your Portuguese name?

You seem to be fascinated, Godayata Magic, Googling for knowledge and try to impart your naivete, once again thanks to the British for introducing English Education. If not for the British, you Buggers would have been still vassals like your forefathers under us, the Feudals tilling the soil all day long. Today you all are emancipated by the very British, enabling to become Academics and Professionals in society. So you owe your stand today to the British whether you like it or not. If the British did not annex this country as a Colony, possibly we will be still in the backwoods with Pirivena Education, Native treatment with no hospitals. No Rail and Road networks having to depend on Bullock Carts. In short minus every thing that society enjoys today. You also would not even have the opportunity to Google but only Ogle.

                  XXX Rum Kallathoni,

You hid in tamil nadu lungi and did not fire a shot for independence it’s just that England had lost the war and most of its assets were bombed by Germany even at Madras. The Fascist Japenese bombed St Lucias Cathedral whose asrse you lick.
Gamini is right when we read European history of Portugese/Spanish, Dutch traders and British invasions and marriages.
Here is just one: Bombay (present day Mumbai) was given to Britain in 1661 as part of the Portuguese Princess Catherine of Braganza’s dowry to Charles II of England. Most of the Northern Province was lost to the Marathas of the Maratha Empire in 1739, and Portugal acquired Dadra and Nagar Haveli in 1779.
Here is 2)The Third Anglo-Maratha War (1817–1818) was the final and decisive conflict between the British East India Company and the Maratha Empire in India.

Kandy which was protected by dutch because of its ivory trade and nutmeg the spice of the aristocrats.Handed over power to the Brits because of French invasion of their republic. Britain took over most of the Dutch colonies, with the exception of Dutch East Indies (now Indonesia), Suriname (which they had captured in May 1804), the Dutch Antilles and the trading post at Deshima in Japan.
I have lived in the Netherlands spoken to Surinamese taken from patna and the Dutch.
xxx you are just a parriaha kallathoni: The peelers bought from Goa were under Vijayanagar and had Portuguese protection. Like the Pallavas the Vijayanagar mixed the southern states to stay in control.

Cinnamon Gardens was owned by a Tamil Aristrocat relative of the king of Kotte and his last surviving relative a bachelor died in the late 60’s. Come May NaMo will do you kallathoni and MR.

      Pavithra Wanniarachchi,

It is normal for failures to blame other people or the circumstances for their failures than to look at themselves and improve. Fault is with Sri Lanka and not with China.

Successful people and nations use failure as a stepping stone towards success, and take action for success instead of blaming or finding excuses.

While we were better off than Singapore in the fifties, we are still fighting for electricity while they have attained 1st world status with no problem of electricity supply for people and numerous industries.

I am not going to waste my time researching energy availablity for households in Tamil Nadu.

However the commercial consumption of electric power in Tamil Nadu is much much higher than entire Sri Lankan energy consumption.
This is due to the heavy industrialistion of TamilNadu, one example is success of the automotive industry, Tamil Nadu is known as the Detroit of Asia. The dont believe in miracles.

Even the landlocked Mongolia has a higher per capita than your “Detroit of Asia”. And tamil nadu did not have terrorists running around planting bombs in cities for 30 years did it?

You will need another Prabhakaran or two if your per capita is to catch up with Sri Lanka’s.

neither did Tamil Nadu have Delhi sending goons to beat up the citizens of Tamil Nadu every election or torch them.

If not for the Tamils and Muslims the economy of Sri Lanka will be down the toilet.

You guys are punch drunk with Mahinda manthira and think that Sri Lanka is a super power.

India faced and still continue to face serious defence and terrorist threat from Pakistan, China, Afghan etc. India fought wars with Pakistan and China.

Sri Lanka took 30 years to defeat a baby faced liberation fighters. They have to go begging to Pakistan, China, USA, UK , for billion dollars worth arm and defence aid to fight a liberation movement consisting of baby faced fighters.

You guys think that Sri Lanka won a world war or war with a neighbouring country

It took 30 years and help from all over the world to defeat a baby faced liberation movment operating from jungles …where as you guys say there was no electricity!!!!!!!!!!!!

why cant Sri Laka make consolidated the brain power of the Tamils the Muslims and the Sinhalelase then Sri Lanka will be really a Miracle of Asia

What? I asked a simple question. Did Tamil nadu have terrorist problem? Sri Lanka have a per capita income of $3000 even after tamil tigers destroying it for 30 years yet tamil nadu only have half of that. Pretty frustrating to the racists huh?

Tamil Nadu is the eleventh largest state in India by area and the seventh most populous state in India. It is the second largest state economy in India as of 2012.[8] The state ranked 6th among states in India according to the Human Development Index as of 2011.[4] [9] The state has the highest number (10.56 per cent) of business enterprises and stands second in total employment (9.97 per cent) in India,[10] compared to the population share of about 6 per cent. In the 2013 Raghuram Rajan panel report,

Tamil Nadu was ranked as the third most developed state in India based on a “Multidimensional Development Index”.[11]

The committee was appointed by the Union Government of India to decide the criteria for granting special category status to states. –

Based on Multi Dimensional Index (MDI) scores top seven developed stats are Goa, Kerala, Tamil Nadu, Punjab, Maharashtra, Uttarakhand and Haryana.

Based on the Multi Dimensional Index (MDI) scores the 10 least developed states are Odisha, Bihar, Madhya Pradesh, Chhattisgarh, Jharkhand, Arunachal Pradesh, Assam, Meghalaya, Uttar Pradesh and Rajasthan.

Don’t set your expectations so low when it comes to Tamil Nadu and expectations so high when it comes to Sri Lanka. Do other industrialized countries disconnect electricity supply for 8 hours a day?

We could have seen how you make it into a racial and ethnic issue if Sri Lanka could not provided electricity for 24 hours to the northern province. But when it happens in India you have thousand excuses. That is why we say there is no “ethnic issue” in Sri Lankan other than the one inside your heads.

I am simply stating that you can’t compare a Tamil Nadu whose economy is heavily indutrialsied hence heavy power consuming economy with that of Sri Lanka whose economy is tourism based and agricultural(tea) based and less power consuming economy.

So Sri Lanka can provide power for high domestic consumption.

I am not making this in to an ehtinc issue , I have not mentioned North of Sri Lanka etc here.

              Just plain speaking common sense.

By the way why do people here have to compare Tamil Nadu with Sri Lanka on every issue that is debated here?

              0

Sri Lanka does disconnect power in the Jaffna penninsula, almost everyday.

You also can’t compare electricity service of India to SL, because the later is a tiny area with a tiny population (relative to India) so it is much easier to provide electricity to more people. This comparison is as stupid as comparing crime in the US to Britain.

Who cares about TN I am paying taxes and top of it in a meeting paying my bills in Sri Lanka so it’s my right to ask why this “Always Breakdown”. Let’s stop comparing ourselves to TN and start comparing ourselves with Singapore. After all it’s the governments ambition to be the next Singapore and the Wonder of Asia.

Mottaya, Singapore was conceived by professionals for professionals therefore utilities were seen a security risk as such the electricity never gets cut even for maintenance. Furthermore LKY invited JT civil servants serving the British at Malaysia not the Sinhalese therefore it functions and you cannot compare.
Lanka is more attuned to miracle of middle east UAE where all the poop is trucked down and it takes 2 weeks for a truck in queue to unload so much for the belching farting smelly camel sense of both nations.

          mechanic,

Tamil nadu 8h power cut or not it’s their problem to solve it. Don’t forget indian population is approximately 1.2 Billion where as SL only 20 Million.

Here the Topic is why she blames China for Sri Lankan power crisis? Why Norocholai power project was failure?
The project was done Under Minister Jampika Ranawaka who happened to be An Engineer. The project was failure may be due to the corruption nor failure of administration. Whatever means it’s a waste of public money who happened to be paying interest for the loans taken by gov.

In SL the recent Projects many are failure (EX: Southern Airport Hambanthota) etc.

It is Sri Lankan public’s responsibility to not to vote and send the Donkeys to the Parliament since Sri Lanka has highest literacy rate.

What I wanted to emphasize is that 94% of Sri Lankans have electricity for 24 hours 365 days whereas not even 50% of Tamils in Tamil Nadu have no electricity for 8 hours 365 days. Also, 50% of Tamils in Tamil Nadu use roadside culverts as their toilets everyday.

Where did you get this statistics? Were you counting their bumps every morning through out Tamilnadu? Its not a easy job to do day in day out.

How did you avoid double counting? Did you have special paints to mark counted bumps? Did you sit under the culvert or on top of it when you count?

How did you manage to get this bump counting job?

The daily power-cuts in Chennai is only for an hour. Once a month
it goes on for about 4 hours. In my view this is also too much in that humid City. Mumbai, on the other hand, enjoys power without any cuts. Apparently Centre-State politics also plays a hand here.

Hello our Gamini, is it not the late Gamini Dissa who said that Sri Lanka will be supplying electricity to India after the completion of the various Hydro Power Projects under the Mahaveli Development Scheme?

      • 4
        0

Yes Gamini Dissanayake would have said so being over ambitious. Give the Devil his due, the Mahaweli was completed before schedule and generated sufficient power to rapidly Industrialize including the Garment Industry and for the electrification of the remotest of places in the country for the benefit of the people irrespective of Political bias or Racial difference.

Just imagine if the country had to depend on this type of woman to deliver Mahaweli under a Commission Rogue as MR and the Rajapaksa Family? The masses who enjoy electricity today will still be idling in the Dark yet.

        • 0
          2

Yes Mahaweli was a necessary project. But we are still paying for it. In reality Mahaweli was diverted via 5th lane Colpetty. That was what JRJ once said. The Time magazine was once lifted by the bundle from the customs which revealed the extent of the siltage in the 5th lane.

          • 0

For your information Mahaweli has paid for itself long years ago. Shows how much you are knowledgeable with current affairs.

            0

NAK don’t con you bugger. JR never said a thing like that. They are all your concocted lies. In fact you buggers accused GD as the richest in Asia having Apple Orchards in Australia. GD if he had the money why invest in an Apple Orchard because, what is the return? There are so many who own Apple Orchards in Australia but Orchards are not the bench mark to class them as Super Rich. If it was said that he owned Oil Wells, then at least people would have believed if proved. To date no one knows where the Apple Orchard is, which State in Australia, the extent and who manages? If you have been to his house in Colpetty, it hardly fits a Mansion of the Richest in Asia. There are hundreds of better looking Mansions than his. If GD owned the House that Dammika Perera has put up at Cambridge Place, I would have at least entertained doubts.

So be thankful that the Mahaweli did not end up as Notachcholai. Wait for a few more months and see the Fun in store. You Buggers will have to run as depicted in the Petroleum Corp Emblem, naked with a torch.

It is the offender who knows the truth which, when he is in a strong position, no one cares to find and reveal the truth. When the offender is gone; there is no one to talk about them and they are buried with him; and the new ones start offending; and the circus goes on. Thanks to the innoncence of the gullible people who become indebted and pay for the consequences of the offences for their whole life.

                Native,

I knew Lionel Dissanayake long before he became Gamini Dissanayake in Politics. He was never the money grabbing Politicians in Power today. In fact GD handled through his Ministry on Mahaweli a sum, more than all the money of the Budgets up to that time. He engaged the services of Companies and Individuals like M R Fernando & Co., MY Hemachandras, Nahil Wijesuriya, Wijeywardene et al to handle major works who made good money for their services. In turn there were many sub Contractors too who made a lot of money for their services. In the rush some also robbed from the Mahaweli and it was not GD’s responsibility to look after the assets of the Main Contractors who were Foreign Companies. Preventing theft was the responsibility of the main Contractors and even if theft was prevented the Contractors would not have reduced the Contract Figure. In such big Contracts, percentages are provided for damage, loss and pilferage.

In fairness to GD he never made money demanding up front payments of Commissions as resorted to by the present day Politicians do. His financial strength was the people, some of whom I have mentioned above for his Political Campaigns. He had benefits from the Contractors of educating his sons at Rugby. This is not uncommon a business practice to which I will not condone however. There are many offspring of the third world Politicians who enjoy this facility in the West.

Gamini, please do not think that you are the only one who was acuainted to GD even before he became a Minister. There are others too. As such, to say ‘In the rush some also robbed from the Mahaweli and it was not GD’s …..’ would amount to defending GD as a friend. It is well-known that a prominent cricketer, who is no more, was given the previlege of making money just seated at home, there were fake tractor and transport vehicle owners who have manipulated vehicle registerations and used them to get money from the Project. All these were done quite openly. Did not GD know these. The list of close associates of GD who resorted to big time frauds were many and the list will be long to deal with.

                    Lanka Muslim,

The Main Contractors of the Mahaweli Project were from the very countries that funded. They in turn sub-contracted to Locals. Some of these Local Companies sub-contracted to smaller companies or even individuals on recomendation by various parties. Whatever that was robbed was part and parcel of the main Contractor and no loss to the Country. Say if nothing was robbed, did not mean the main Contractors would have given a rebate to the Govt, of Sri Lanka.

The particular Cricketer you refer to was Abu Fuard who was appointed as an Insurance Agent by GD who got a Commission as normally happens in the Insurance business and nothing unusual. GD did it as a favour for his contribution to Sri Lanka Cricket at the time we got ICC status. Abu Fuard was confined to his room in his last days as he was sick and blind. So he received these Commissions for his up keep which everyone knew.

To conclude, I never said that I was the only one that knew GD. GD was known to so many that he had this rare ability to remember people by their first name and whenever he saw someone whom he had met briefly even, he never failed to acknowledge in any crowd. He had the flair and the ability to make up even with his adversaries. That is how the Premadasa family collectively worked for him although he fell out with R. Premadasa while living.

Your insight knowledge of the Cricketer and insurance agency commissions is commendable; but the fact is that it was a Govt. directive to the Insurance Corp. from its inception that no agency commission be paid on insurances of state institutions placed with the Corp. This rule was violated and the Cricketer, who was given the agency, was just earning the commissions on all the Mahaveli Board insurances placed with the Corp. when he did not do any canvassing to procure the business and did not at all or canvassed other insurances. Other Agents had to canvass and work hard under competition for their commissions. Can illness and some contribution be fair reasons to violate rules and regulations to benefit someone? There is more similar issues too. Well, the past has caused lot of damage to the society and country producing more and more frauds and fraudsters. Let us discuss methods for a better future.

Therefore the cost from £400 million became 800 or is it 1000. So the nation takes a couple of generations more to pay back.

Gone were the years where meritocracy ruled the day in this now divided country. Ministers were usually able men – educated lawyers and the like. They were assisted by superb bureaucrats from the enviable Civil Service. This team usually managed their tasks very well. 1956 brought in disaster to be followed by catastrophe – with rare exceptions. 1977 showed promises of changing the trend but 1989
brought in mediocracy – largely. 1993/94 saw “L” board Ministers and the system saw a semi-collapse and regular power cuts. 2006 completed the debacle and now drug-traffickers, Extortionists and Casino men are running the direction in the Cabinet.

Pavitra W is no more able than an average Provincial MP – at best. What can you expect with such people at the helm of affairs – and, that too of Power and Energy at a time like this? I mean no personal
aspersion on the Minister. When you sow the wind you must reap the whirlwind. Let us brace ourselves for further power cuts, higher prices and more chaos.

Sri Lankan government is in the habit of finding scape goats when some thing goes wrong. likewise the latest scape goat is the Chinese built Norochcholai power plant built with a loan from China? China has the technology to build modern infrastructure .They are building a massive bridge in the US. China wins bids in major Western countries. but China has options to suit the poorer countries and richer countries. The goods we buy with a made in China tag is inferior in quality but the same thing bought in the US is far more durable and superior. The other important factor is the massive commissions the Sri Lanka government demands from investors like China? After giving commissions they resort to low quality machinery. This is the truth we have to face.

The fault is 2 fold politician and government adviser on the pay. otherwise how could civil servants fund their children to study at oxford or weerawansa send his children to Eaton??

You the nitwits can not see the difference of those products.

quality levels of the goods be them electronic or whatever that are being sent to developing countries are far lower than those to Europe and other rich countries. This I myself noticed at the time, got to see the poor quality of the chinese products found in Aus markets. Meaning not that Aus is poor, but those markets have the access to those low grade qualities. Even in rich countries – they are markets that have been infected by chinese low quality products. This has now become like cancerous problem to Europe. some noticeably cheaper gadgets I once bought in Sidney were far lower in grade than those found in European markets. These are commercial tricks of the chinese – based on infecting various folks. Those chinese traders are like deadly virues by their function.

You don’t have the experience of ordering from the Chinese of Malaysia, Singapore or Mainland just another consumer belching and farting in defence because your greed overcame the quality.

In utter desperation the King of the blind son of priest Gordon Brown handed over £3 billion(the public was asked to shut up) to TATA (jam boys/ opium boys/ farsi dynasty)and requested them to hand over the manufacture of Land Rover, Jaguar to Cheri Automobile of China. They are doing well like Dell and Cameron was shown that on his visit.
You should find out what happened to MG series?? It will be out soon and at Chinese leisure.
If the Chinese had no business sense and cruel they would behave like Kaddafi and sell the american bonds overnight to provide employment to the 200million unemployed in their 10 year development plan.

TATA’s plant at Pune is like the Dell call centre to sell the product because the Hong kong girls work in the lucrative financial sector.
The new CEO civil engineer is going to fail technically in the electro/mechanical and computer sector as much as the dynasty is dying and the native Hindu Indians are coming of age.

The real culprit of this gigantic blunder is the kick-backs given to the politicians, more exactly to R clan. The other mega scale blunders made by this regime are Hambantota port, Mattala Airport & MihinLanka. Unfortunately people of this country still vote for them. We ll see what will happen in the forth coming provincial elections! Hello Sri Lanka, If we elect crooks, they certainly will rob at every opportunity.

I did not mean to say that Champika did anything better. All of them are in the same boat; but blame one and other for the failures.

” Power and energy Minister Pavithra Wanniarachchi blamed China for the power shortages and high electricity prices in Sri Lanka saying the island’s biggest power station built by a Chinese company has suffered frequent breakdowns, The Business Standard reported today. “

If you buy Chinese technology and workmanship, you take a gamble. If you want reliability and efficiency , get Japanese, German,Swiss or American. It will cost a bit more upfront but the savings you make on reliability and efficienty will more than make up for it.

Who are the consultants for this project. They are responsible for the whole operation start to finish. But no one seems to know who they are.

The ministry of power and energy, The board of directors of the CEB, The all powerful engineers union of the CEB, Other trade unions of the CEB and finally the Electricity Consumers Association, Any one of the above could sue the consultants for the shoddy job they have done but no one seem interested.
Finally the Chinese have come forward to rectify what ever is wrong because this constant break downs not good for business for the Chinese.

Although the West is expensive,we import for the use of the
heads of the state, luxuries from the west and not from China
or India.Even just for three days conference,we got down so
many Mercedezes and why can’t we follow the same line at least
on a third of all our development projects, thus maintaining
a balance with East and West and sharing opportunities with
standards we had been familiar with for centuries.

    Rajash,

“Sri Lanka took 30 years to defeat a baby faced liberation fighters. They have to go begging to Pakistan, China, USA, UK , for billion dollars worth arm and defence aid to fight a liberation movement consisting of baby faced fighters. “

They were once baby faced fighters that grew into a unit of meglomanicas thanks to our stupid politicians, support given by Tamil Nadu politicians and funds collected by Tamils who went to west as beggars.

The fact is we defeated the Tamil terrorists.

This is unfair charges against China.

This is caused by, GG Ponna, SJV Chelva, Amir, VP LTTE, LTTE rump, Tamil Diaspora, and now its Sampandan and Wiggy.

You should take a tough line on Tamils in general and Wiggy in particular. Send him to boot camp for rehabilitation and reeducation.

Why blame China when eveyone knows that their technology is not the best. It is the CEB and its expert advisers who should be blamed. Konde Bandapu Chinu we have become thanks to CEB.

I think this minister did not get the cut from the bribe from the Chinese. What qualification has she got to be the Minister of Power and Energy, what does she know about Power and Energy? What action is she going to take against the company in China that built this power plant to get damages for the failure of performance of this plant?

  • 2

So what is she going to do about it as Minister for Energy? Its her lot that awarded the tender to the Chinese. She is another uneducated Minister & these issues are obviously beyond her capabilities. If she can’t resolve the matter, she should resign instead of making excuses.
