Sri Lanka Commits Genocide Against Tamils

By Ron Ridenour

The fact that a month ago the Permanent People’s Tribunal found Sri Lanka guilty of committing genocide against the Tamil people and so few non-Tamil media has informed us of such is unjust oversight at best. I didn’t find out about this important decision until today (January 4). The western media, including left-wing web sights, has been silent or ignorant of this.

The Rome-based Permanent People’s Tribunal (PPT) is an outgrowth of the original war crimes tribunal created during the war against Southeast Asia by Bertrand Russell and Jean Paul Sartre.

Its panel of 11 judges, experts in international law, former UN officials, and peace and human rights activists, found Sri Lanka guilty of genocide at its December 7-10, 2013 hearings in Berman, Germany. The unanimous decision was taken after hearing over 30 witnesses, including Tamil victims, and experts.

It also found that the US and UK were guilty of complicity. A decision on whether India, and other states, had also acted in complicity was withheld for lack of time, and pending further examination.

In January 2010, a PPT panel of other international law experts, meeting in Dublin, found Sri Lanka guilty of committing war crimes and crimes against humanity. These are the same charges that a United Nations panel of experts later recommended be explored by an independent international investigation.

These are excerpts from PPT news release:

The genocidal coordinated plan of actions reached its climax on May 2009 (upon the defeat of the Tamil armed resistance, the Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam)… The genocidal strategy changed once the perpetrators gained control of the territory. The killings are being transformed into other forms of conduct, but the intention to destroy the group and its identity remains and continues, through causing serious bodily or mental harm to members of the Eelam Tamil group.

The Tribunal considers that the proofs established, beyond any reasonable doubt that the following acts were committed by the Government of Sri Lanka.

(a) Killing members of the group, which includes massacres, indiscriminate shelling, the strategy of herding civilians into so‐called “No Fire Zones” for the purpose of massive killings, targeted assassinations of outspoken Eelam Tamil civil leaders who were capable of articulating the Sri Lankan genocide project to the outside world.

(b) Causing serious bodily or mental harm to members of the group, including acts of torture, inhumane or degrading treatment, sexual violence including rape, interrogations combined with beatings, threats of death, and harm that damages health or causes disfigurement or injury.

(c) Deliberately inflicting on the group conditions of life calculated to bring about its physical destruction in whole or in part, including: expulsions of the victims from their homes; seizures of private lands; declaring vast areas as military High Security Zone (HSZ) to facilitate the military acquisition of Tamil land.

Further, the Tribunal considered evidence related to:

(d) Imposing measures intended to prevent births within the group including forced sterilization and coerced contraception of Eelam Tamil women. Further investigation is required on the extent of this practice in other regions before a determination is made on whether these could be considered genocidal acts.

The UK and USA guilt of complicity in the crime of genocide, includes:

– complicity by procuring means, such as weapons, instruments or any other means, used to commit genocide, with the accomplice knowing that such means would be used for such a purpose;

– complicity by knowingly aiding or abetting a perpetrator of a genocide in the planning or enabling acts thereof;

The PPT decision is most important not only for Tamils but also for left-oriented individuals, groups, political parties and governments. There can be no denial by leftists and progressive governments of the credentials of the Permanent People’s Tribunal. And as the PPT decision includes the governments of the US and UK as accomplices makes it ridiculous for those progressive governments to claim that those powers are critics or opponents of genocidal Sri Lanka. All that is lacking is for the next PPT session to amend the tally of other state accomplices to genocide, which should contain the names of India, as proposed, as well as Israel, China, Pakistan, Iran, at the very least, and perhaps Australia and other states.

I highly recommend that leftist-progressive organizations and websites, and especially solidarity groups with Cuba, Bolivia, Venezuela, Ecuador, Nicaragua (ALBA countries make these governments aware that they need to return to their original principle as internationalists who support the oppressed everywhere on earth, and cease supporting unquestionably the genocidal government of Sri Lanka.

To have betrayed the Tamils, by the Americans and the Indians getting VP and the LTTE to close the Mawilaru anicut to draw the MR Govt Forces to a staged War, where the LTTE buries all their heavy artillery and decamp their stronghold Kilinochchi to a Beach Front, only to be massacred is Genocide alright. The question is why MR did not massacre KP, Pottu Aman, Karuna, Masters Daya/George, Pillayan and others? Yes these Tamils have sold their own for personal gain while the Americans and the Indians are shielding MR from War Crimes at the UN, providing shelter to some of the culprits as Shavendra Silva refuge at the UN itself.

“Sinhala budhist barbarism never going to stop unless tamil north and east must be protected by UN or some sort of security mechanism”

If you care to look at its record on protecting people UN miserably fails on all counts since it came into being. Does the international body really want to protect people irrespective of who they are?

Did UN really care about your people? If it did, it could have saved all those died in the war. UN is another pawn in the great game played by great military powers with some economic leverage.

      Let me ask you this.

When IPKF arrived in the North and East ostensibly to protect the Tamils from evil Sinhala/Buddhists why did your Thalaivar oppose it?

“Bala Annai” promised LTTE would oppose IPKF militarily, politically and diplomatically.

What was the cost to your stupid Tamils?

Have you taken stock of what your people have gained and lost over the 30 years of mutually assured destruction (MAD)?

Please let me see your Balance Sheet as at 19 May 2009.

        NV,
UN was formed in 1945, that was after WWII . Was there any Org we can compare with it to say this is good or bad.. If UN fails, you, me and all fail too.
If this fails, Then We have to go back to the stage of 1945 and get ready to stop WW-3 by uniting together as mere individuals. without the concept of UN which was a failure…

I understand your concern however if you look back the numerous wars fought in South America, Africa, South Asia, South East Asia, Middle East and limited war in Europe since WW II which came to an end in 1945 should inform you whether the UN is worth preserving.

For details of wars since 1945 please refer to

          http://www.economist.com/content/inner-turmoil

Tell me as to why the UN is or was unable to prevent wars in the first place.

The World Wars were mostly European Tribal wars.

My own Universal Beings Tribunal finds Ron Ridenour guilty of aiding and abetting a known international terrorist organisation, the Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam (LTTE) and sentences him to live with his own madness for the rest of his life. The tribunal consisted of me, the cat and the budgerigar (the wife had an appointment at the hairdressers at the time).

That’s the verdict, but the cat went out so we’ll hear the evidence when she comes back.

Silly Candidly. They were not terrorists. They were an ‘armed resistance’. Yes all those terrorists that killed innocent civilians of all races for 26 years was because they were fighting government oppression. Didn’t you read what these loony lefty journalists tell you or are you just ignorant?

Why should anyone give a fig for the statements of the so-called Permanent Peoples’ Tribunal (PPT) – an obscure organisation of equally obscure individuals? Who gave the PPT a mandate or the authority to function as a tribunal to inquire into and adjudicate on these matters? So, it heard from witnesses – did it hear the case of the SL government?
Let’s not waste time worrying about the PPT – this zany outfit.

So so true. I’d find it unusual that this ‘journalist’ refers to this government as ‘genocidal government’ and he seems peeved that the most left wing countries situated in South America who can see see right through the political motives behind these resolutions brought by out of all countries America! I’m sorry Ronny. But a country like Cuba knows first hand of the of a real genocidal government. I’ll give you a clue. Which country backed the genocidal dictator from Cuba named Batista? They don’t need your condescending third world recommendations.

AS LONG AS THE ILLITERATE,RACIST,BUDDIST-NATIONALISTIC MAJORITY SINHALA PEOPLE DOMINATE THE COUNTRY AND THE POLITICS, THERE WILL NOT BE ANY MEANING FULL SOLUTION FOR TAMIL ISSUE. UNLESS SOME OTHER THIRD PARTY GOVERMENTS OR THE UN INTERVEEN AND MEDIATE FOR A SOLUTION FOR THE HALF-CENTURY-OLD PROBLEM, THE ISSUE WILL PLAGUE THE ISLAND AND, MOST PROBEBLY, IT WILL CONTINUE TO OUR NEXT AND NEXT GENERATION – FORCING OUR SONS,DAUGHTERS,GRAND SONS AND GRAND DAUGHTERS TO BECOME MILITRAY ON THE SINHALA SIDE AND SOME KIND OF TAMIL ARMED MOVEMENT ON THE TAMIL SIDE TO SHOOT AND KILL EACH OTHER FOR CENTURIES TO COME, WHILE SOME OTHER SMART COUNTRIES BENEFITING BY SELLING WEAPONS AND MILITARY EQUIPMENTS DRAWING THE ISLAND INTO DEEP DEBT AND THEN CONSEQUENTY TO OWN THE INDEBTED ISLAND.

This WHITE gun dealer lost revenue because LTTE is no more. Killing terrorists cannot be genocide. LTTE practiced everything the NAZIS did. Now these Nazis come for the rescue of the LTTE.

Is this fool thinking only whites know the definition of genocide?

Another aged leftist fool who thinks that we need the permission of these marxists in the dustbin to finish off an insurgency.

The thing is though these leftists in Europe that portray themselves as Marxists are just revolutionists hell bent on bringing down the government here without providing any real alternative. This will probably result in our country being even MORE dependent on aid from developed nations without letting us develop after 26 years of war. That’s the LTTE’s way of getting revenge on the government and its citizens without firing a single bullet since 2009.
As for the marxists in South America, well let’s just say they’re naturally a little suspicious of resolutions being brought by the US while they hold prisoners without trial, use drone strikes and interfere in other countries personal affairs.

    This is serious stuff.

11 Eminent Judges find the Srilankan Govt guilty of Genocide of Tamil people.

But the Elected CM of the Tamil Inhabitants and the Leader in waiting of their Tamil Political alliance were with Srilankan President only a few days ago , probably telling the Prez to bugger off and let them run the show.

Can people who were subjected to genocide go to the same President who has been found guilty by this Eminent Panel and talk to him let alone ask him for total control and to even bar the non Tamils from their area?.

Can Cameron use this guilty verdict to send in a English and Canadian joint Liberation Force to remove the President?…

To only talk about crimes committed by the government and not the LTTE is an insult to the 26 years of war our country went through. Who is going to stand up for the injustice committed against those that lost family members due to the ruthlessness of the LTTE? Oh that’s right we need to bribe politicians overseas and have huge vote numbers for that to occur. There were two sides that fought this war and yet we keep hearing of crimes commmitted by one.

      Rajan

“There were two sides that fought this war and yet we keep hearing of crimes commmitted by one.”

It is unreasonable hence we need an independent impartial investigation into all war crimes committed by all parties from 5th April 1971.

By the way there were many sides to war crimes.

You don’t honestly believe Navi Pillay will be ‘independent’ and ‘impartial’ in her investigations do you? Or what about the UN? You sound a little too optimistic if you believe so mate. Or what about Canada? Yes the country with politicians that are only interested in Tamil votes. Or peaceful Norway? Why does Sir John Chilcot the Brit get to investigate his own country’s inquiries without any prosecutions despite the grave war crimes committed yet when Sri Lanka conducts its own, people want the UN involved? My bad I forgot we’re a third world country not capable of doing anything on its own without developed nations help.

no matter who fight in a battle/war – be it a democratically elected government, russia-like dictatorship government, china-like one-party uling,parkistan-like half-terrorist half-military government, sri lanka-like one family politics or any terrorist group( depending on who and how want to identify or name any armed orgaization ) must obey the geneva convention on war – simply put, respect and protect unarmed civilians, surroundering or injured soldiers/cadrets while fighting. if no rules respected by any of them involved in the fight, they must be ruled by third party (an independent body of judiciary ) and the justice should be delivered.
