The same problem is faced by many Sri Lankans. Killings, Abductions, assaults and even Motor Accidents involving politicians go uninvestigated and unpunished.

Lasantha Wickrematunge a renowned journalist murdered in broad daylight by hooded gunmen on motorbikes close to a police checkpoint in 2009 – The case drags on with no progress. The police are probably aware of the killers but are not reporting due to the involvement of security forces on orders from above.
Pradeep Ekneligoda – Abducted by Govt Paramilitary and missing for more than a year. No action.
Sivaram – A tamil journalist abducted in broad daylight and body found close to parliment in high security zone. Suspect arrested and released? Case drags on.
Lalith Weeraraj and Kugan Muruganandan, were abducted on 9th December 2011 and they remain missing to this day. Lalith Weeraraj was abducted by the military prior to 9th December and had been released after being threatened to stop work related to disappearances of persons in the North. The families of both these men have also suffered threats, harassment and surveillance following their abductions.
At present several Tamil students from Jaffna University have been arrested and taken away by the armed forces. Little is known of their where abouts or charges framed.

We have a dictatorial regime which acts with impunity against its own citizens. So far the international community has turned a blind eye on what is happening in Sri Lanka. It is hoped that this will change and pressure brought on the govt especially with regard to the CHOGM to be held in Nov 2013. Cancellation or change of venue will send a strong message to the Sri Lankan Govt to change its behaviour or face suspension from the Commonwealth of nations.

Lasantha Wickrematunge’s postmortem report is still not available.
    So are,ALL postmortem reports since.
This is a new trend in murder cases.
Neither prosecution, nor defence lawyers insist on being provided with this information.
There is no murder without a body, and there is no body without a postmortem examination done, unless the death was due to natural causes, even then a medical certificate is ncessary for burial or cremation.
Khuram Shaikh’s female companion,a russian tourist was gang raped.
Sampath Chandrapushpa, the Chairman of Tangalle Pradeshiya Saba had, acording to reports, entered the hotel with a long gun when dancing was going on,and had been enraged when no woman had wanted to dance with him – and had created a rumpus.
Shaikh had tried to mediate and had been cut in the neck with a broken bottle.
So far,one year later, the case has not been called up.
So too, the murder case of Bharatha Luxman Premachandra.
