Sri Lanka Suffers Today To Serve The Whims And Extravagances Of A Single Ruling Clan: UNP

Given the precipice to which the Rajapaksa regime is taking this once blessed country, gives us pause, makes us wonder if our ancient people got it right all those years ago. Could it be that when rulers are corrupt, impious and brutal that the entire country will have to pay the price? asks the United National Party.

Mahinda Gota Shiranthi AyomaIssuing a statement the UNP today said; “All of Sri Lanka suffers today to serve the whims and extravagances of a single ruling clan. It is time to make the appeal of our forefathers” May there be a righteous leader, may the rains fall on time and may there be prosperity for all.”

“It is indeed a sad state of affairs that while millions of tax rupees are spent by the Rajapaksa administration on extravagant events that over a million people are fighting a battle to obtain their daily drinking water. According to reports 1.15 million people in 14 districts are today severely affected by the drought. Their crops have failed and livelihoods ruined. What has the ruling regime done for these people? What has been the reaction of the President who calls himself the “father of the nation”  to relieve the suffering of his children? It pains us to see that even small children are made to walk miles, missing school to collect a meager ration of water.” the UNP further said.

We publish below the statement in full;

Sri Lankan ancients used to have a wish for this land; “devo vassatu kalena.. raja bhavatu dhammiko”: may  there be rain in due season..and may the king be righteous.”

Our ancestors attributed the timely rains and bountiful harvest to the righteousness of their ruler. In the 21st Century, it is not apt perhaps to blame the current political rulers for the failure of the rains in 14 districts of the island.

But this much is a fact. Over a million Sri Lankans are suffering, rains are failing and the rulers are so corrupt, their minds are far away from the terrible plight of the people.

It is therefore a time when we have to make the same desperate plea as our forefathers: for rain, for prosperity and for our leaders to care.

It is indeed a sad state of affairs that while millions of tax rupees are spent by the Rajapaksa administration on extravagant events that over a million people are fighting a battle to obtain their daily drinking water. According to reports 1.15 million people in 14 districts are today severely affected by the drought. Their crops have failed and livelihoods ruined. What has the ruling regime done for these people? What has been the reaction of the President who calls himself the “father of the nation”  to relieve the suffering of his children? It pains us to see that even small children are made to walk miles, missing school to collect a meager ration of water.

The government says that it has allocated 37 bowers to provide water for these 1 million people and kept aside Rs 1.9 billion or less than Rs. 2000 per person for relief.

Compare this with the tax relief provided for the luxury vehicles which were imported for the Colombo Night Races to the value of Rs. 200 million in lost revenue. The money spent by the President’s children on their racing craze  is phenomenal. It was reported that just the sand bags used for these races alone the Government spent Rs. 40 million. Also compare this with the colossal losses made by Mihin Lanka, the airline maintained for the sole purpose of fulfilling an egocentric desire of the President. According to the recently published COPE report the airline made a loss of Rs 6 billion in the last two years alone.

Despite this scant lack of concern for our fellow citizens the ruling regime and its cohorts merrily party on. In Colombo the Ministers and their families are utilizing bowsers to fill their residential swimming pools. Defence Secretary Gotabhaya Rajapaksa is on record telling a foreign newspaper that he gets down water browsers to fill giant shark tanks maintained by his wife.

There is another ancient belief among our people that the annual Kandy Perehera brings rain and prosperity to the country. The peoples’ belief in this rain giving sacred relic, is yet another reason for its veneration by Sri Lankans.  Yet even this holy of holy cities and the temple of the tooth relic was recently desecrated by the Rajapaksa offspring when they took their night race craze to Kandy. Ignoring the protest of even the Mahanayakes of the Asgiriya and Malwatta chapters the organizers not only callously went ahead with the event but brought in skimpily dressed foreign dancers to perform in front of the sacred temple of the tooth to please the warped desires of a few.

The time has come to ask the self-proclaimed ‘father of the nation’ a few pertinent questions. Perhaps before he attempts to adopt and nurture all Sri Lanka’s people, he can begin the process of discipline and order in his own home. Among his own family.

Given the precipice to which the Rajapaksa regime is taking this once blessed country, gives us pause, makes us wonder if our ancient people got it right all those years ago. Could it be that when rulers are corrupt, impious and brutal that the entire country will have to pay the price? All of Sri Lanka suffers today to serve the whims and extravagances of a single ruling clan. It is time to make the appeal of our forefathers” May there be a righteous leader, may the rains fall on time and may there be prosperity for all.

It is unfortunate that MR and co spent large amount of borrowed money on weapons to fight purely innocent srilankans, they can never fight with any other country, please srilankans wake up from your immagination. The countries manufacture weapons, cheat MR and co and steal our borrowed money by selling weapons. Now US introduced investigation and MR spending money on US firms to defend him,not srilanka-srilankan people are not in trouble, only rulers are in trouble. Why kill people and shiver now. At least now , the public have to wake up and remove them and stop further selling of lanka land to other countries. Few years ago there was a news that moldives islands are starting to disapesr and they wanted to buy land in srilanka, which is happening now. The water shotage is actually connected to the distruction of trees during war and the chemicals emmited from huge bombs. Srilanks is a small island, if you use chemicals in the north, it will affect south as well.

Secret admirer of Rajapaksha, stop blaming Ranil.

Ranil is the only leader who can save SL. Only Ranil, not Karu, Sajith has minority support.

We want Ranil or else we don’t vote for UNP.

Ranil has experience at the top. He was PM twice. Very peaceful times. He was continuously in politics since 1977.

HE Ranil the next president of Srilanka.

Uneducated Rajapaksa clan is taking all Sri Lankans for a ver dangerous ride in a very steep slope. When Fools run a country with greediness to collect money for their offsprings then they will not look to save the poor villages.
Mahinda trying to be a Buddhist while supporting the Christian Cursh because of his wife Siranthi and on the other hand help the Muslims. Sinhal Buddhist think that MR is a true Buddhist, but he is not.

The day Sinhal Buddhist get the shock in their life MR and his brothers will say good buy to these greediness. By the way Namal and Yositha babies are in Sydney Australia roaming in a very luxury Limosines paying $ 1000.00 per day while enjoying life. When will they learn that every thing is not permanent in this world.

“Sinhal Buddhist think that MR is a true Buddhist, but he is not.”

Can you define and explain who a “True Sinhala Buddhist” is?

There seems to be a lot of Confusion. Some people think Monk Somarama was a true Sinhala Buddhist. Some think the BBS monks are true Sinhala Buddhists, Some think the Mahanayakas are True Sinhala Buddhists,

So who is a true Sinhala Buddhist?

      • 1
        0

        ,

True Buddhist is some one who follow The Lord Buddhas preaching and not break the Five Precepts and live helping others. But Malinda is not a true Buddhist, as he cheats the majority Sinhala Buddhist population 74.9pc of the population to be in power.

As you have a bit of a problem understanding Sinhala Buddhist people other than the Mahawansa lot, you may not be able to think about the real Buddhist?

Your Comment about Ranil been a better PM ? ! He is no dought a peacefull leader, but, Sri Lanka needs a tough Presidant to handel this county and a good Economist. Now that the old JVP cade is back at work. With all the bullshit trying to make Sri Lanka into a Sinhala Buddist country,Soon the peace that we have gained, is coming to an end. Rajapakse clan knows that, their days are coming to an end, So the attention of the public should be turned in another direction.(if they`re to govern another 4 years)They have only wait and let the BBS goons do the job.

We know the reason why UNP is issuing statements like this. It is because of jealousy, and nothing else. They have reasons for jealousy.

Our Hon. Saddarmadveepa Chakrawarthi Donated US$ 1 Million to Palatine. Now he has shown to the world that we are a super rich Country. UNP couldn’t bear this and making false allegations against Hon. Saddarmadveepa chakrawarthi and his family. They say that people are suffering without water due to drought but Govt. is doing nothing about that and donate money to Palestine.

“Sri Lankan ancients used to have a wish for this land; “devo vassatu kalena.. raja bhavatu dhammiko”: may there be rain in due season..and may the king be righteous.”

We just can’t blame for our Hon. Saddarmadveepa Chakrawarthi for no rain. This time Champika Ranawaka and Hela Urumaya forgotten ask rain from God Natha. Last time Champika ask rain from God Natha and he gave little bit more and some peoples died and lot of people became “Anatha” because of Champika.

“Defence Secretary Gotabhaya Rajapaksa is on record telling a foreign newspaper that he gets down water browsers to fill giant shark tanks maintained by his wife”

Probably he must have forgotten to mention that his White Van and Motor Cycle Brigade provide fresh food for Sharks.

“……..The money spent by the President’s children on their racing craze is phenomenal”

What is wrong with that after all he is “Jathiye Aadambarakara Pin-Piya” They do some good things such as giving lectures about Rugby to school Girls and UNP can’t appreciate such efforts.

” Also compare this with the colossal losses made by Mihin Lanka, the airline maintained for the sole purpose of fulfilling an egocentric desire of the President. According to the recently published COPE report the airline made a loss of Rs 6 billion in the last two years alone”

Only our Sumane, Jim Softy, Elu Kolla, T. Modaya, Vi-Bheeshana can explain about this.

With China and India appointing Defense Attache to their Embassies here for the first time, some fireworks are being scheduled? One may be that China wishes to have a Dictator in power here, so that no more PE are on the card.
This can be arranged by ex-Army US citizen here, with the view to defy any external interference in the near future, by an “arranged” Army quasi-coup whilst Family Rule can be conveniently perpetuated. It will be the end of all Politicians and Politics in SRI LANKA. They be better prepared to face it. Can this possibility be over-ruled knowing the track-record of a double-speak “Leader” greedy for power and wealth
(220 kg. LTTE Gold alone)? Ducking under the culvert is secondary.

The UNP shedding crocodile tears is too late in the game citing MRs
monetary extravagance, when they could have done better than now.

People have fotgottn how present regeme got into the power
Ranil lost the presidency due to that northern Tamils were not allowed to vote. If Tamils have voted who would have been the president? Who stopped Tamil’s voting?
Its true that Sri lankans are suffering, knowing that why cant the nation get united to select a suitable leader for the country.
I agree with FATHIMA, its Ranil who could save the country and nobody else.

Will Rainbow Ranil be able to drag it back if LTTE proxy Sambandan gets his TNA Police and Land Bank..And the ex CJ becomes the next CJ, with Fonseks the Minister of Defence sorry the Secretary of Defence.?…

BTW, did Mr Samaraweera issue this statement?…

This message is for Ranil and Co.

Praying to the rain gods to make Sri Lanka prosperous is indeed an exercise in futility. Ranil must come out fighting amd move away from such mythical beliefs. We have a president who does everything according to his ‘lagna’and his soothsayer’s mumbo-jumbo. We don’t need another president mired in ‘Pirith Noola’ philosophy and ‘bili poojas.’

The ruling clan in Sri Lanka must be brought to book for their largesse. The nation can permit the clan to wallow in their glamourous sports and dancing girls if only it is done with their own money. Unfortunately the money they so generously spend belongs to the people. When they sell land to the Chinese for large sums of undeclared money, that money also belongs to the Sri Lankan people.

By the way girls dancing in front of the Dalada Maligawa is an ancient practice. During perahara we have many kinds of dancing girls coming out and going into the Maligawa, dancing. There is nothing sacred about Maligawa. It is the palace of the last Kandyan King. Those kings got up to all kinds of mischief in those hallowed spaces.

It is the mistake of all the educated people have left the country for better money and better life style instead if creating a better Sri lanka through revolution..
I am one of those overseas employee.
We need to get back to sri lanka and make the country better. unfortunately those who are educated and left in Sri Lanka don’t have comprehension of how a society works. Many of them not seen real outside world other than through media. because our education system is spoon fed, we take information/ knowledge from others rather seeking it.
This is killing our motherland sri lanka.
