Sri Lanka’s Blind Alignment With US-Israeli War Mongers

By Latheef Farook

Dismissing the island’s Muslim community, the United National Party led government, brought to power on 17 August 2015 by more than 95 percent Muslim votes, started rolling red carpets to Israeli delegations while Israeli troops desecrate Islam’s third holiest place, Masjid Al Aqsa in Jerusalem, and killing Palestinians who resist.

The island’s Muslim community remains shocked that the government started opening its doors wide to Israel even before it settled down to work. Up to date the government has not shown even a wee bit of interest, it has shown to develop ties with Israel, to attend to burning Muslim grievances.

For example this month marked the 25 anniversary of the LTTE eviction of Northern Muslims most of whom still languish in refugee camps. Numerous articles in the local media highlighted their misery. Has the government even indicated its willingness to deal with this burning issue?

Instead the government’s priority seems to promote Israel- the sworn enemy of Muslims worldwide, as if they are going to bring economic bonanza and turn the island into a land of milk and honey.

Six days before the 17 August 2015 general elections, war criminal Tony Blair, despised by all decent human being worldwide, and his family were invited on a two week tour by Foreign Minister Mangala Samaraweera. Blair, who now regrets for destroying Iraq, was taken to meet President Maithripala Sirisena, former President Mahinda Rajpaksa and was honored by inviting to address the Lakshman Kadirgamar Institute for International Affairs and Strategic Studies.

Minister Samaraweera’s invitation to Blair indicated the new government’s foreign policy of siding with US-Israeli war mongers who have turned many Muslim countries into grave yards and made more than twenty million once happy Muslim families into refugees.

This was followed by the visit of an Israeli Parliamentary delegation to Sri Lanka from 24 to 30 of September 2015. The delegation had discussions with Secretary-General of Parliament Dhammika Dasanayake on what was described as areas of mutual interest, security arrangements in Parliament, public outreach and employing disabled people in Parliament.

The question is how could Sri Lanka with more than 2000 years of civilization have areas of mutual interest with a neo fascist entity like Israel which occupies Palestinian lands and deny Palestinians even their basic human rights in their own land with its oppressive policies.

Now three weeks later comes the 15 member American Jewish team which established a” Sri Lanka-International Jewish Friendship Association” on 20 October 2015 assisted by Deputy Foreign Minister Harsha De Silva.

The team, also met President Maithripala Sirisena, Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe, Minister of Foreign Affairs Mangala Samaraweera, Finance Minister Ravi Karunanayake, Foreign Employment Minister Talath Athukoralae, Deputy Foreign Minister Harsha De Silva and many others all of whom received the team with enthusiasm.

Hope these ministers know ABC of Israel’s crime records and the sufferings they inflicted and inflict even today upon Palestinians whose lands they robbed after massacring and driving them out to establish the racist state of Israel.

As it always happens these visits were always shrouded in secrecy. There was a blackout of news on their visit in the local media -both print and electronic. Only social media reported in brief.

The question is what is the new government’s foreign policy, if there is one?

The government has thrown its weight fully behind US, where governments are made and unmade by Jewish lobbies, and Israel.

In view of the developments in the region, US and Israel wanted Sri Lanka more, as part of their global strategic reasons, than Sri Lanka needs these two countries.

There is a common feeling among Muslims here that Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe is more pro American than Americans themselves and he has been rather allergic to Muslims here in the country and abroad.

Citing an example many still speak about his unstinted support to US led invasion of Iraq in March 2003. He refused in 2003 to condemn the US which destroyed that ancient oil rich almost developed Muslim country where people enjoyed high standard of living .Today it was pushed into middle age. More than a million and half Iraqis who lived in peace and prosperity were slaughtered. More than five million thrown into refugee camps while an equal number made refugees in their own country. Hundreds of thousands of Iraqis were tortured to death in the notorious Abu Ghraib prison as disclosed by the media.

In the Iraqi city of Fallujah innocent Bush and Blair incinerated Iraqis with latest of bombs.

Disgusted Muslim parliamentarians in the then UNP government wanted to condemn this unprecedented war crime. However Mr. Ranil Wickremesinghe, then prime minister, prevented them from condemning US stating that “those who wanted to criticize the US could do so after leaving the government”.

Thus his today’s honeymoon with American and Israeli war mongers is no surprise.

Few highly connected businessmen, certainly not Muslims, and others may benefit. However the country may be torn apart and bound to lose a great deal as wherever Israelis go they select racist elements to put them against Muslims to create communal clash. This is part of the global Zionist Jewish policy.

Palestinian-Israeli is a question of good and evil, justice and injustice, crime and barbarity and genocide and their victims and so on.

The United Nations, blackmailed by US, violated all accepted laws and ethics in human history in approving a resolution which provided a state to Zionist migrant Jews in Palestine.

This was also the death of United Nations and the international law.

Thus the Jewish racist state is an artificial entity established in violation of all moral and legal principles and ethics cherished by humanity throughout the ages. Since 1930s when Zionist Jews were brought into Palestine, Israel has committed around 65 massacres of Palestinians.

Unfortunate Palestinian men and women struggle to ensure their rights and dignity against the Israeli atrocities backed by the military might of US, Europe and Russia and ignored by Arab tyrants serving their western masters.

Now by siding with US and Israel, Sri Lanka is endorsing the genocidal policies of these two countries on Palestinians.

The shameful state of affairs is such that there was hardly a word of condemnation from the island’s bankrupt Muslim politicians who sold their souls under shameful deals, the so called wheeler dealer religious leaders and civil society leaderships. This is the sad plight of the island’s beleaguered Muslim community.

Today under the changed political environment since 8 January 2015 much is talked about reconciliation and communal harmony in Sri Lanka. Therefore in inviting the Israeli delegations did the government ever think of the sentiments of the island’s Muslim community?

Muslim countries remain the best friends of Sri Lanka in times of both prosperity and adversity. Under such circumstance why this honeymoon with war mongers?

By and large in Sri Lanka the present generation of professionals, intellectuals and others including most in the media do not know much about the true history of Zionist Jews as they depend on local media which depends on the pro Zionist western media for its international coverage .

Are we to presume that the set of UNP ministers who shook Israel’s bloodstained hands were among them?

The need of the hour for Sri Lanka is to re-establish its image in the international stage by once again supporting the oppressed people including Palestinians. One should not forget that Sri Lanka was highly respected in all Third world forums such as Nonaligned Movement and Afro Asian Solidarity Organizations due its principled support to freedom movements worldwide.

Countries like South Africa and its legendary leaders like Nelson Mandela and Archbishop Desmond Tutu were respected because they defended justice all over as Sri Lanka did under late Prime Minister Mrs. Sirimavo Bandaranaike.

Israelis were trying to penetrate Sri Lankan since 1950s. Every time they sneaked into the island through back door they were expelled. It was during Prime Minister W Dahanayake’s period in 1958 a non resident ambassador was appointed to Israel, but he was recalled by Prime Minister Mrs. Sirimavo Bandaranaike.

Later in 1970 Mrs. Srimavo Bandaranaike closed down the Israeli mission in Colombo despite threats of economic boycott. The island’s fiercely independent and dignified policy and the overall attitude towards Israel was such that in 1979, Sri Lankan Cricket Team refused to play its match against Israel in the 15 nation qualifying competition in the 2nd Prudential World Cricket Competition in England.

In the aftermath of 1983 anti Tamil pogrom when President Jayewardene turned to Israel to crush Tamil militancy in the north. Israel grabbed the opportunity and an Israeli Interest Section was established in the US Embassy in Colombo with David Matna, later reported belonging to Israeli intelligence service, Mossad, as resident head.

Muslims opposed the move. However dismissing them President Jayewardene stated “well, if the Muslims wanted they can remain in the government, otherwise they can leave”.

This was one of the reasons why the frustrated Muslims, especially those in the east, turned to Sri Lanka Muslim Congress to raise their voice, though it later ended up as a disaster.

Here in Sri Lanka, instead of helping Jayewardene’s government Israelis trained both as disclosed in the book “By Way of Deception; The Making and Unmaking of a Mossad Officer” by Victor Ostrovsky and Claire Hoy .

It stated that “The Israelis trained elite forces, for both sides-( Tamil militants and the government forces) without either side knowing about the other and helped Sri Lanka cheat the World Bank and other investors out of millions of dollars to pay for all the arms they were buying from them” .

Once again Israel entered Sri Lanka during the Rajapaksa regime and began spreading their tentacles from politicians, media, business establishments and other fields.

With their arrival came the Rajapaksa government backed violent racist campaign aimed at annihilating the Muslims as a community. This was the worst ever anti Muslim attack in the known history of the island. These racist elements were suspected of close links to Israel which reported to have financed them via Norway. A German Jew even bought a building n Galle for BBS which was opened at a function attended by then defense Secretary Gotabaya Rajapaksa.

Israelis were so successful that they got even got defeated President Mahinda Rajapaksa, then Prime Minister Ratnasiri Wickremanayake and a parliamentary delegation led by then Leader of the House Nimal Sripala De Silva to visit Israel. Since then several ministers and top officials visited Israel. Certainly a great achievement for Israel.

This trend continues with greater intensity under the present UNP government. Thus the justifiable fear of Muslim community. Already few hundreds of Tamil Christians held a pro Zionist demonstration recently waving Zionist flag with pro Israeli slogans provoking the Muslims in the area.

Do we really need such provocations and when do we learn lesson?

If you are a Sri Lankan, then Welcome US / Israel friends

Sri Lanka Muslims deserve every bit of what they are receiving Lathief.

You voted as a block – antidemocratically – the only man who helped the Palestinians since the age of 25, Mahinda Rajapakse. THere is a street named after him in Romallah.

You ungrateful, irrational Sri Lankan Muslims pinned the bloody BBS thing on Mahinda and accused him of being anti-Muslim and voted for Sirisena and Ranil.

You should not be complaining now but ashamed of your treachery to Mahinda Rajapakse. Reember your sin when you go to Friday prayers next.

Unfortunately our pro American leaders are easily corruptible. Israel is one of the most disliked nations in the world, and constantly being condemned for war crimes and human rights violations, yet the world’s greatest “superpower”, keeps sending billions in aid, keeps giving more and more weapons, and protects it from UN resolutions by strong arming the UN and vetoing resolutions to protect it from further censure. The very crimes that the US accuses other nations of, is ignores when it comes to Israel. The ongoing turmoil in Jerusalem today, over the desecration of one of the Holiest Mosques, has ended up with nearly 60 Palestinians dead and 11 Israelis. It is now easy to justify all killings of Palestinians by calling them “terrorists”, and who can blame these young people for throwing stones and using knives against a well trained, well armed, military, when they have had to suffer so much?

    From a Reuters article:

“Amnesty International said on Tuesday that it had found some of the killings of Palestinians had been unjustified, and that Israeli forces were using “extreme and unlawful measures”.

In a statement, the rights group said it had documented at least four cases in which Palestinians had been deliberately shot dead without posing an imminent threat, “in what appear to have been extrajudicial executions”.

These are not Palestinians terrorists, these are long suffering Palestinians, who have live under a brutal occupation for YEARS, and are fed up of living under inhumane conditions. These young people are fed up of having NO FUTURE to look forward to, they have seen their families killed, attacked by Jewish terrorists (while the Israeli government does nothing), even encourages these illegal settlers to carry weapons. What chance do these young people have? Their homes are attacked, burnt, and recently a family was burnt to death, including a baby, when Jewish terrorists attacked their home while they were sleeping. The Palestinians have lost their land, have had their olive trees stolen or destroyed, their fishermen shot at and killed, have to go through numerous check points, and the Israeli government has collectively punished them, demolished their homes, and basically treats them like dirt, while they live a good life by courtesy of the US.

If the Sirisena/Wickremasinghe government wants to invite these devious people into our country, they are asking for trouble. It seems the US political system has been corrupted with Jewish money, do we want the same?

I also would like to bring attention to some comments that are going to appear here. They will be pro Israeli/anti Arab or Muslim. They will deflect from what the writer has said, and turn the conversation to totally unconnected issues. These are trained trolls who are sometime paid by Israel, who come here to deflect, attack the messenger, and feed false propaganda. They are called the Hasbara, and operate all over the world, Sri Lanka too. These troll can be local or from other nations. I suggest readers watch out for these trolls, who will reveal themselves by showing loyalty to Israel, attack Muslims or Arabs, and spread false propaganda. Google the word Hasbara and you will find out more.

Once again, the Israeli/Palestinian question has been raised, and already we have comments condemning the action of Israel in defending themselves against terrorists. I find it easy to understand that many of my fellow-Sri Lankans, even those who are Christians do not know the long history of Israel, going back to Biblical times. I do not wish to get into any debate in comparing religions and beliefs. I was also somewhat uninformed about the Middle East situation till I began to read various books including the Bible where we (at least I) saw the situation from both perspectives, that is from the Israeli-Jewish point of view as well as that of the Palestinian and Arab point. What I see is that we in Sri Lanka get very limited information on this issue and even then, it is biased. It is ONLY fair to check from the Israeli point of view also and that can be found in many media publications such as Times of Israel, Jewish Journal etc.

It was the Late Prime Minister Yitzak Rabin who fostered Arab and Palestinian participation in the Israeli Government and now there are several Arab and Palestinian Reps in the Knesset. They have all the privileges of free speech, free elections, identical health and other social benefits. Do other Arab nations allows non-Muslims to enter their Administration? Israel has taken in several thousand refugees from terror but no Arab nation has allowed any to come into their countries.

Prime Minister Netanyahu repeats to President Abbas, “Just declare that Israel has a right to exist”. But that declaration is not forthcoming. Iran has said that they are committed to “wipe Israel from the face of the world”. But Israel merely want to be friends with all nations and co-exist.

The Jewish people have always been subject to wrongful condemnation from Biblical times. The Assyrians, The Syrians, Babylonians, The Greeks, The Romans and finally the NAZIS all tried to eradicate them but they keep popping up! Why is that possible? If one were to diligently seek the answer, it will be found.

Incidentally, the Americans are NOT the BEST friends of Israel. If you follow news coming out of The White House, you will understand.

Colombotelegraph, if you are unable to publish this without editing, please delete the entire article.

Okay, let me respond to a few of your points here. You are right many Sri Lankan do NOT get the facts here, and are easily swayed by the wrong information, especially when it is deliberately supplied by some who have been trained to do so. The world is not buying the Israeli narrative, although it’s supporters keep trying.

Yitzak Rabin was one of the few leaders who were open to allowing the Palestinians live free of occupation, and although he signed the Oslo Accords, not many Israeli leaders stuck to it, in fact there is a video of Netanyahu boasting he stopped honoring it long time ago. Many Israelis do not honor it either.

Rabin was executed by an Israeli extremists, who still thrive there:
“On the evening of 4 November 1995 (12th of Heshvan on the Hebrew Calendar[45]), Rabin was assassinated by Yigal Amir, a radical right-wing Orthodox Jew who opposed the signing of the Oslo Accords.”

International laws do NOT recognize Biblical laws, therefore your point is moot. The Israelis were supposed to live within the green lines, they have stolen, and keep stealing more and more lands from the powerless Palestinians.
Here is a well known picture depicting Palestinian lands being blatantly stolen by what I consider a greedy occupier. The entire world condemns the illegal settlements, but the Israelis are too arrogant to care.
      http://ifamericansknew.org/about_us/4maps.html

That picture is worth a thousand words.

As for your reference to the fact that America is not Israel good friend – facts say you are incorrect:
      https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Israel–United_States_military_relations

The US has sent billions and billions in aid, weapons, and last year when Israel attacked Gaza, and massacred over 2000 Palestinians (mostly women and children) the US protected it from UN condemnation, and even handed them over even MORE ammunition to continue the massacre, even through Israel attacked many UN shelters. Obama is the only President who has stood up to Israel especially when Netanyahu tried to sabotaged his efforts to make a deal with Iran. Still, Obama is not doing enough to halt the nation that has been accused of apartheid policies, by leaders like Desmond Tutu. The US Congress is in the pockets of the zionists.

I suggest you do some research yourself, and not buy the Israeli propaganda. Anyone can check credible sources, and will realize Israel is NOT the victim it loves to pretend it is. Israel, a nation backed by the US, one of the world top ten arms manufacturers, and a ruthless and well trained military, pretends it is the victim of occupied people, who thrown stones or send a home made rocket.

Only naive people will believe Israel’s fairy tales.

    • 6
      3

Who can blame the Palestinians for feeling anger towards Israel? They have lived under oppression, had their lands stolen, Palestinian water is controlled by the zionists, farms destroyed, homes demolished, Mosques and Churches attacked, had Israeli precision bombs sent into homes causing the deaths of FAMILIES.
No human being can endure this suffering which has gone one for over 60 years.

Here is Ariel Sharon’s son showing how “compassionate” zionists are”

Gilad Sharon, son of former Israeli leader and noted hawk Ariel Sharon wrote an op-ed Sunday: “We need to flatten entire neighborhoods in Gaza. Flatten all of Gaza…. The Americans didn’t stop with Hiroshima—the Japanese weren’t surrendering fast enough, so they hit Nagasaki, too…. This needs to end quickly—with a bang, not a whimper.”

They killed over 2000 Palestinians during that massacre.

If we Sri Lankans lived under the same conditions that Palestinian have suffered, you bet we would be throwing stones and sending rockets to our tormenters and occupiers.

Do not mix up backward Arabs and consider yourselves all Muslims. You are Sri Lankan dravidian tamil speakers. You are not Arabs. Some facts you may find hard to swallow.

    1. Egypt 90% or more SUNNI ARAB nation received 3BILLION USD in annual military aid. biggest recipient besides Israel.Egypt has been the second-largest recipient of U.S. foreign aid since its peace treaty with Israel in 1979. YOU SIR ARE STUCK IN OLE MRS B ARCHAIC CRAP BACKWARD INWARD LOOKING POLITICS.

    2. Between 1946 and 2011, the United States provided Egypt with a total of $71.7 billion in bilateral foreign aid ($118.3 billion in constant 2011 US $). US military assistance levels started ramping up following the 1979 Peace Treaty between Israel and Egypt, when the United States pledged financial support to maintain peace, and since 1987 the US congress has appropriated $1.3 billion in military assistance to Egypt each year.

Aid was frozen after the Egyptian army overthrew former President Mohamed Mursi. Obama resisted calling that a coup because it would have resulted in aid being cut completely. Some restrictions were relaxed in 2011, but Congress made aid dependent on the U.S. Secretary of State certifying that Egypt was taking certain steps to govern democratically, a delay which angered the Egyptian government. “The animosity had been growing because of an Egyptian sense that they were at a point of mortal peril and we were engaged in academic games about modifying assistance programs,” said Jon Alterman, director of the Middle East program at the Center for Strategic and International Studies think tank in Washington.

    2. Egypt receives over 2/3rd of all FOOD AID from USA. It cannot feed itself because it has a large poor Arab population and not much in terms of oil. IF USA DOES NOT GIVE IT FOOD AID, their piss poor people will not have enough to eat and there will be food riots

Once a leading granary for the entire Mediterranean, Egypt today is one of the largest food importers in the world, and one of the largest markets for US agricultural exports. Each year more than $4 billion worth of imported food comes through its ports. About one quarter of this comes from the United States.

The key commodity is wheat. Cheap bread is the dietary staple for Egyptians. Wheat accounts for more than half of the daily caloric consumption of Egyptians, and an even higher proportion — more than 63 percent — of those living in cities. Local food production has grown, but not enough to keep pace with population growth or higher income and per capita consumption. Wheat imports doubled from an average of two million tons per year during the 1960s to four million tons by 1977, and now total roughly seven million tons. Egypt today imports three times as much wheat as it produces. and gets FREE US Zionist food! chuckle.

    3. Egypt and Jordan are pragmatic nations that have RECOGNIZED ISRAEL’s right to exist and have diplomatic ties.

    4. INDIA HAS STRONG DIPLOMATIC TIES, MILITARY TIES, ECONOMIC TIES with Israel.

    5. Throughout the last 2 centuries Jews have been in academic, science, medical research forefront and Arabs have not. Jews are world leaders in brains.

India and Israel on 15 October 2015 inked ten Memoranda of Understandings (MoUs) in various fields. The MoUs were signed as part of the President Pranab Mukherjee’s state visit to Israel.

Mukherjee was on a three-day visit to Israel from 13 to 15 October 2015. He visited the country at the invitation of Reuven Rivlin, President of State of Israel. He is the first ever President of India to visit Israel.

During the tour to Israel, President Mukherjee was accompanied by a high level delegation including Thaawar Chand Gehlot, Union Minister of Social Justice and Empowerment, Members of parliament, senior officials, senior representatives of our educational and academic institution and media representatives.

    6. Saudi Arabia is where the wahabi salafist radical JIHADI ISLAMIC spews.

    7. Saudi Arabia, Qatar, UAE, Kuwait are all autocratic Feudal kingdoms and not democracies; Israel is a Democracy.

    8. The nations I mention in point 7 are ALL PRO USA And depend on USA for defense

    9. THEY ALL buy tens of billions of dollars worth of weapons from USA. If your are an Arab Sri Lankan logically ask why the Saudis are so tight almost in a homoesexual manner with George W Bush and also with Obama in defense and economic relations? Because USA needs their oil and Saudis are hateful towards Iran.

Saudi Arabia is America’s top customer. Since 1990, the U.S. government, through the Pentago’s arms export program, has arranged for the delivery of more than $69.6 billion in foreign military sales to Saudi Arabia.

Oil rich Saudi Arabia is a cash-paying customer. It receives no U.S. military assistance to finance these purchases, although it does demand that about 35 percent of all major contracts be “offset”-that is, economic benefits equaling 35 percent of the arms contract value must be steered back to the Saudi economy. (Check out the Offsets Monitoring Project for more information on this phenomenon.)

The United States has very close and long-running military ties to the Saudi regime dating back to 1945. Following the 1990-91 war against Iraq, more than 5,000 U.S. troops and thousands of U.S. military contractors have been continuously based in Saudi Arabia. However, several concerns have been raised about this close military cooperation and the related sales of sophisticated arms. These concerns are:

Brother Lateef. YOU ARE A DRAVIDIAN Tamil speaker not an Arab. Arabs can never beat Israel. Iran is NOT ARAB but PERSIAN with a far superior history and dynasty. It was Persian Aryans who brought the great period of Muslim rule in India and NOT ARABS. If you want to admire a modern nation with a highly educated people and where women have a lot more freedom than in Saudi Arabia GO TO PERSIA/IRAN.

Turkey is a MUSLIM NATION: They were the FIRST Muslim (read Turks are NOT Arabs they are an ancient nation) to recognize Israel.
    SEE WIKI entry verbatim below
Israeli–Turkish relations refer to the bilateral ties between Israel and Turkey. Israel–Turkey relations were formalized in March 1949. Turkey was the first Muslim majority country to recognize the State of Israel.

Military, strategic, and diplomatic cooperation between Turkey and Israel were accorded high priority by both countries, which shared concerns with respect to the regional instabilities in the Middle East. According to a New York Times report in 1999, the strategic partnership between the two countries had the potential to alter Middle East politics: Trade and tourism were booming, the Israel Air Force practiced maneuvers in Turkish airspace and Israeli technicians were modernizing Turkish combat jets. There were also plans for high-tech cooperation and water sharing,

Relations between Israel and Turkey took a downturn during the term of Recep Tayyip Erdoğan as Turkish Prime Minister. Though Erdoğan had paid an official visit to Israel in 2005 and initially had maintained business-as-usual relations, his strong anti-Israeli rhetoric is considered to have symbolized an intentional shift of Turkish interests in the Middle East and realignment from secular Israeli-oriented to Islamist pro-Arab stance of Turkish Republic. Most notably, the relations deteriorated after the 2008–09 Gaza War and the 2010 Gaza flotilla raid. In March 2013, Israel apologized for the raid, opening path for normalized relations. However, despite US-mediation, no progress has been achieved in reconciliation through 2013. With the scandal over alleged Turkish involvement in exposure of special agents of Israel in Iran in October 2013, the relations between Israel and Turkey have hit a new low.

so stop your SLFP type loser politics. US even invites Muslim Journalist students through a fellowship program from Sri lanka every year. A lot of them love going to the USA and seeing freedom of worship, where there are mosques even in the heart of NYC where Jews are in charge.

You need to get over your racist blinders. Yes Tamil Tiger racists chased out Muslims. You cannot blame outsiders for this. India is home to the 3rd largest Muslim population in the world. It has vibrant ties with Israel and there are no racists like you to blame India. Praise the Lord.

‘Do not mix up backward Arabs and consider yourselves all Muslims. You are Sri Lankan dravidian tamil speakers. You are not Arabs.’

Absolutely right. Although there were some Arab traders visiting Sri Lanka in the past, the vast majority of Muslims in Sri Lanka are descendents of South Indian settlers. That is why they all speak Tamil.

you live in la-la land about Saddam: sure he kept that place STABLE but by slaughtering Kurds, gassing them and also repressing Shias. In your racist world you will only be happy if Sunnis repress others is it? Saddam had a 9 year disastrous war with Iran aided and abetted by USA but if you think Saddam was a Mother Theresa you are out of your insane racist mind.

Saddam was a tyrant. But a stable one. USA created ISIL after he was overthrown and it became an unstable hotbed of sectarian violence. That is true.

But if you live in an SLFP Mrs B type of bacward mentality you live in la-la land.

Dubai, Abu Dhabi, Kuwait, Saudi Arabia, Qatar, Oman are ALL BIG USA allies.

Pragmatism on the part of India was responsible for the establishment of the relationship, Jamshyd N. Godrej, an industrialist and co-chair of the Indian-Israel Forum, told The Media Line. He explained that Russian military hardware lacked the technological sophistication the Indian government desired for equipping its armed forces while at the same time the United States was an impractical source of military equipment due to its close ties to Pakistan, India’s regional rival with whom they have fought four wars. The solution, Godrej said, was to turn to the Jewish state.

“Israel was the only one who was relatively independent and not connected with the big blocks and recognized that India would be an investment for the future,” the industrialist said.

This arrangement led to a situation where 40% of Israel’s military exports are sold to India, Pramit Pal Chaudhuri, foreign correspondent for the Hindustan Times newspaper, told The Media Line

Potential to become natural allies and trading partners, the predicted mutually-beneficial relationship between Israel and India is seen as maturing with lucrative benefits to both nations. “(There are) very similar values – Indians and Jews and Israelis view family as the center,” Bergman told The Media Line. “There’s a culture of business and education (which) the two nations have in common,” he explained. Ties between the two nations have grown slowly from the 1990s when diplomatic relations were established.

Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi is said to deserve much of the credit for New Delhi’s change in policy vis-à-vis Israel. “I think with the change in government in India there is much more visibility and less shyness about the relationship,” Stanley Bergman agreed.

While there was a time the developing bonds between the two nations were stalled by India’s ties to Israel’s enemies, India now seems ready to reap the rewards of its ties to the Jewish state in the form of Israeli technology, weapons and military equipment, diamonds and agriculture. Israel, meantime, is developing close links with an emerging super-power at a time when its traditional allies are becoming a touch frosty and concern about isolation from the international community is growing.

The recent visit to Israel by Indian President Pranab Mukherjee underscores the interest in ratcheting-up the level of Indian-Israeli cooperation despite India’s traditional support for the Palestinian campaign for statehood. Indeed, it was the first non-Arab nation to recognize the Palestinian Liberation Organization (PLO) and maintains a full Palestinian embassy in its capital, New Delhi. This policy is seen as a reaction to India’s own history of colonial rule and its ready support for calls for self-determination. And, of course, the influence of some 120 million Muslims living within its borders — the largest Muslim population of any non-Islamic country. Only recently has India’s voting pattern at the United Nations become anything other than automatic in opposition to Israeli positions.

Yet, Israel and India also shares similarities such as their respective legal systems inherited from the British Empire. Israel fell under the British Mandate until it became a state in 1948 – only one year after India declared independence from Britain. The connections run even deeper than this, according to Stanley Bergman, CEO of Henry Schein and a captain of industry involved in developing trade ties between Israel and India.

    .

At the start of the relationship, India was cautious about the visibility of its relationship with Israel for fear of offending its Arab and Muslim allies. However, according to Chaudhuri, the Indian government need not have worried. “The Arabs have actually taken us more seriously now that we have relations with Israel,” the journalist said.

In fact, the relationship between the two states is now anything but “under the radar.” India’s head of state made his highly visible visit to Israel and in return, President Reuven Rivlin has announced his intention to travel to India in the near future.

Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi is said to deserve much of the credit for New Delhi’s change in policy vis-à-vis Israel. “I think with the change in government in India there is much more visibility and less shyness about the relationship,” Stanley Bergman agreed.

The shift also comes following opinion polls in India which depicts the population as being favorable toward Israel – with approval ratings of 70% and above, according to Chaudhuri.

But the relationship is likely to warm only so far. India, which has historically preferred to maintain a balance in its diplomacy has not put aside its traditional support for the Palestinians and will, in the future, seek to weigh this against its new growing sense of connection with Israel, Jamshyd N. Godrej predicted.

“Because of its long history of not being connected to any [diplomatic] bloc, I don’t see India taking sides between the Israelis and Palestinians in that sense. They have become much more balanced in their approach now,” he said.

Indonesia is the World’s most populous Muslim ASIAN (NON ARAB) nation.

It has the largest economy in Southeast Asia and hosts some of the world’s most diverse natural resources spread across more than 17,000 islands. Yet, almost half the population lives on less than $2 per day. Indonesia’s growing economy, young democracy and strategic location in the region make it an important trade and security partner to the United States.

USAID works with the Indonesian government, local leaders, academia, the private sector, civil society and development partners to help Indonesia realize its national development goals and emerge as a stronger partner in addressing fundamental global challenges. The close bilateral relationship is reflected in the U.S.-Indonesia Comprehensive Partnership signed
in 2010 to deepen ties between the two nations.

US GIVES BILLIONS in Aid to Indonesia. It gave at least 2.5 Billion in aid after the Tsunami.

    Indonesia is SECULAR

      3

Perhaps you can explain why you have shifted the debate to Indonesia. If you read what the writer says, it is all about Sri Lanka and it’s rather dangerous alliance with an apartheid nation, Israel.

That said, what the US gives Indonesia, is nothing compared to what Israel gets. Israel seems to have sponged off the US for years. Israel is the TOP recipient of American aid, given weapons, and various financial assistance.

“Israel has a population of approximately 7.8 million, or a million fewer than the state of New Jersey. It is among the world’s most affluent nations, with a per capita income similar to that of the European Union.[1] Israel’s unemployment rate of 5.8% is better than America’s 7.3%,[2] and Israel’s net trade, earnings, and payments is ranked 30th in the world while the US sits in last place at a dismal 193rd.[3]

Yet, Israel receives more of America’s foreign aid budget than any other nation.[4] The US has, in fact, given more aid to Israel than it has to all the countries of sub-Saharan Africa, Latin America, and the Caribbean combined—which have a total population of over a billion people.[5]”

    Mr Latheef,

Don’t find fault with the present government for getting close to the US and Israel because the Rajapaksa regime also played a dirty double game with the Israelis and the Palestinians. Rajapaksa was an opportunist who, while having strong military and economic ties with Israel, paid lip service to the Palestinians’ woes. Strategic alliances between states take priority over everything else in global politics, Mr Farook.

I think you should start condemning the Hamas killers who are also an impediment to peace in Palestine. Most of the Israeli aggression in Palestine is in retaliation to the murderous actions of the Hamas killers. Now ISIS killers have taken a hold in the Hamas territory of Gaza the Palestinians can look forward to more brutality and deaths at the hands of the Israelis. I suggest you, for a change, start condemning the Hamas and the ISIS for escalating the violence in Palestine.

    • 3
      2

I think you have got the sequence wrong. Hamas is not a saintly bunch, but if there is blame start with the Israelis. If they ended the occupation, stopped the land theft, and allowed the Palestinians to be free from oppression, there would be no reason for Hamas to operate they way they do. Hamas is a useless outfit when it comes to being compared with Israel, it’s arsenal of sophisticated weapons, and trained military who control what the Palestinians can and cannot do. Israel exists in perpetual wars and makes enemies because of their rabid policies of occupation and land theft. Hamas is bad, but the all powerful IDF is worse, when it comes to violence and death tolls.

I am not sure if Sri Lankans need to get into complicated Arab-Israeli conflicts.

Saudis and Israelis have had secret talks about their common foe the muslim Shia highly civilized Persia/Iran.

Brothers Lateef and Hilmy read the article below and then respond to the author whose email is at the bottom of this article from Bloomberg. So please stop spewing garbage at us. Sri Lanka is a SECULAR nation with a vast majority of people are Buddhist-Hindu-Christian combined. India is so close to Israel now you will vomit your hatred if you knew facts.

So here goes Brothers Lateef, Hilmy and the rest of the Saudi Loving racists.

Since the beginning of 2014, representatives from Israel and Saudi Arabia have had five secret meetings to discuss a common foe, Iran. On Thursday, the two countries came out of the closet by revealing this covert diplomacy at the Council on Foreign Relations in Washington.

Among those who follow the Middle East closely, it’s been an open secret that Israel and Saudi Arabia have a common interest in thwarting Iran. But until Thursday, actual diplomacy between the two was never officially acknowledged. Saudi Arabia still doesn’t recognize Israel’s right to exist. Israel has yet to accept a Saudi-initiated peace offer to create a Palestinian state.

It was not a typical Washington think-tank event. No questions were taken from the audience. After an introduction, there was a speech in Arabic from Anwar Majed Eshki, a retired Saudi general and ex-adviser to Prince Bandar bin Sultan, the former Saudi ambassador to the U.S. Then Dore Gold, a former Israeli ambassador to the United Nations who is slotted to be the next director general of Israel’s foreign ministry, gave a speech in English.

While these men represent countries that have been historic enemies, their message was identical: Iran is trying to take over the Middle East and it must be stopped.

Eshki was particularly alarming. He laid out a brief history of Iran since the 1979 revolution, highlighting the regime’s acts of terrorism, hostage-taking and aggression. He ended his remarks with a seven-point plan for the Middle East. Atop the list was achieving peace between Israel and the Arabs. Second came regime-change in Iran. Also on the list were greater Arab unity, the establishment of an Arab regional military force, and a call for an independent Kurdistan to be made up of territory now belonging to Iraq, Turkey and Iran.

Gold’s speech was slightly less grandiose. He, too, warned of Iran’s regional ambitions. But he didn’t call for toppling the Tehran government. “Our standing today on this stage does not mean we have resolved all the differences that our countries have shared over the years,” he said of his outreach to Saudi Arabia. “But our hope is we will be able to address them fully in the years ahead.”

It’s no coincidence that the meetings between Gold, Eshki and a few other former officials from both sides took place in the shadow of the nuclear talks among Iran, the U.S. and other major powers. Saudi Arabia and Israel are arguably the two countries most threatened by Iran’s nuclear program, but neither has a seat at the negotiations scheduled to wrap up at the end of the month.

The five bilateral meetings over the last 17 months occurred in India, Italy and the Czech Republic. One participant, Shimon Shapira, a retired Israeli general and an expert on the Lebanese militant group Hezbollah, told me: “We discovered we have the same problems and same challenges and some of the same answers.” Shapira described the problem as Iran’s activities in the region, and said both sides had discussed political and economic ways to blunt them, but wouldn’t get into any further specifics.

Eshki told me that no real cooperation would be possible until Israel’s prime minister, Benjamin Netanyahu, accepted what’s known as the Arab Peace Initiative to end the Israeli-Palestinian conflict. The plan was first shared with New York Times columnist Tom Friedman in 2002 by Saudi Arabia’s late King Abdullah, then the kingdom’s crown prince.

Israel’s quiet relationships with Gulf Arab states goes back to the 1990s and the Oslo Peace Process. Back then, some Arab countries such as Qatar allowed Israel to open trade missions. Others allowed an Israeli intelligence presence, including Abu Dhabi, the capital of the United Arab Emirates.

These ties became more focused on Iran over the last decade, as shown by documents released by WikiLeaks in 2010. A March 19, 2009, cable quoted Israel’s then-deputy director general of the foreign minister, Yacov Hadas, saying one reason for the warming of relations was that the Arabs felt Israel could advance their interests vis-a-vis Iran in Washington. “Gulf Arabs believe in Israel’s role because of their perception of Israel’s close relationship with the U.S. but also due to their sense that they can count on Israel against Iran,” the cable said.

But only now has open cooperation between Saudi Arabia and Israel become a possibility. For Gold, it represents something of a sea change. In 2003, he published a book, “Hatred’s Kingdom,” about Saudi Arabia’s role in financing terrorism and Islamic extremism. He explained Thursday that he wrote that book “at the height of the second intifada when Saudi Arabia was financing and fundraising for the murder of Israelis.” Today, Gold said, it is Iran that is primarily working with those Palestinian groups that continue to embrace terrorism.

Gold went on to say that Iran is now outfitting groups such as Hezbollah in Lebanon with precision-guided missiles, as opposed to the unguided rockets Iran has traditionally provided its allies in Lebanon. He also said Iranian Revolutionary Guard Corps forces propping up the Bashar al-Assad regime are now close to the Israeli-Syrian border.

A few years ago, it was mainly Israel that rang the alarm about Iranian expansionism in the Middle East. It is significant that now Israel is joined in this campaign by Saudi Arabia, a country that has wished for its destruction since 1948.

The two nations worry today that President Barack Obama’s efforts to make peace with Iran will embolden that regime’s aggression against them. It’s unclear whether Obama will get his nuclear deal. But either way, it may end up that his greatest diplomatic accomplishment will be that his outreach to Iran helped create the conditions for a Saudi-Israeli alliance against it.

Judging by the comments here, all I can say is there are a number of Sinhalese who can write a few lines in English, who hate the Muslims in Sri Lanka, without having any personal reason to do so. Why? But they don’t mind eating our give-away Biriyani on festive occasions.

Lot of inaccurate or artificially twisted points imbedded to make Muslims of this country Modayas. The only point holds out of the entire essay is this, “The shameful state of affairs is such that there was hardly a word of condemnation from the island’s bankrupt Muslim politicians who sold their souls under shameful deals, the so called wheeler dealer religious leaders and civil society leaderships. This is the sad plight of the island’s beleaguered Muslim community.” It is Muslims who are voting to the same nasty leadership have to take the blame- Not Ranil.

That is not just fit to Muslim leaders, that hat is more than a fit to Muslim writers too. No Muslim writers condemns the ISIS. Tell me something. Israel’s current mistake is taking away Palestine’s freedom. Isn’t ISIS has taken the freedom of Syria, Kurdis, Turkey, Libya, Iraq and to some extent Afghanistan’s and some others. Why the blind writes not being able to see Middle East has gone from America to Russia because of the ISIS. Isn’t it “The shameful state of affairs is such that there was hardly a word of condemnation from the island’s bankrupt Muslim Writers who sold their souls under shameful deals. “

Does America’s involvement in Iraq justified? Right and wrong of that is for a different discussion, But, America explained Irque had captured its friend, another Muslim country. It was the UN’s blessing to friendly nations to launch war on Iraq. So again, the double standard of Latheef is not ready to condemn the Muslims countries who provided the entry points, Grounds and troops for fight, funded the war.

The violent wrangling of Iran – Iraq war has left a fear of both of these nations in the neighbouring Muslim countries, much more than their fear to Israel. America launched war against some Muslims countries of whom other Muslims countries feared of treason. But America left these countries with a democratic set up. Latheef, preaching democracy to Lala’s wild life, the Sinhala Intellectual governments, why is not feeling convinced that if he preach to those of his great brothers in the Middle East, they would realise that they are now democratic countries and build up on that? The truth is, Latheef knows they are more barbaric than the Sinhala Intellectuals and telling them to do so is only an action of “Kurankuku Puththi Sonna Thukkanakuruvi” (The weaver bird asked a soaking monkey in the rain why not he is building a home like her one; the monkey angered by this advice went and tore off her one too so, she too soaked in the rain). Latheef is saying many muslims countries are friendly with Lankawe. Can he give list of Muslims countries who really anti American too?

UN condemns Israel’s crimes. But the Lankawe muslim community defend the Lankawe war crime in UNHRC. Why is this double acting? Tamils ministers, too, went to Geneva to defend Lankawe. But they are people arrested under PTA and kept as (open)prisoners by the Royal Governments to shoot and kills Tamils. They are not real ministers. But Muslim ministers, who are independent of government went to UNHRC. Almost every Fridays, those days, these leaders organised protest against UN with Wimal fasting against UN. After getting minister post in the New Royal government, the great leader Hakeem, the political prostitute, declared Tamils are the beggars showing their beggars’ wounds and begging from IC. He has an opinion that prostitution is better than begging. But we (Women of Tamils) feel the other way. What can be done to that Tamils and Muslims difference in cultural perceptions?

The most infamous law, The Standardization in the country was brought by a Muslims minister to this country. That was a law not found even in the apartheid South Africa. Even the Sinhala Intellectuals, who are War Criminal, could not hold on that and let it go. It is the only law that brought against the Tamils was repealed because it was that an explicit racists law even for war criminal, the Sinhala intellectuals. How many of these Muslim writers condemned it?

Already few hundreds of Tamil Christians held a pro Zionist demonstration recently waving Zionist flag with pro Israeli slogans provoking the Muslims in the area.” Sowing bitterness is the job of all Lankawe’s writers. This the year(2015) of the century of the mother of all communal violence of Lankawe’ the Muslim – Sinhala riots. That days, Tamils worked with neutral mind. Then both races acted together against Tamils because they were only neutral. So the Muslims wanted to celebrate the century starting on the Barber street in colombo by initiating new violence on the Tamils’ Temple with the same style. From that day, at least five Hindu temple attacks has been reported. Do we really need such provocations and when do we learn lesson?

Arabs are not the same as Sri Lankan muslims. Reality Check. Tamil speakers or Malay speakers. Malays and Indonesians are Muslim but not savages like some of the Arabs. Latheef is either a Malay speaker or a Dravidian tamil speaker. It boggles my mind but not the hysterical irrational mind of some Wahabists that Lateef would equate Islam with being Arab.

No moderate modern muslim girl or boy will be able to dance, drink alcohol in clubs, and date non muslims. He talks about that tragic incident in Beruwela area as an attempt to “annihiliate muslims”. REALLY LATEEF, YOU ARE The ONE PROVOKING people with your racist boondoggle. That was a BBS thug incident sadly but how is it an attempt to annihilate all muslims? Please stop this race baiting. You are playing to extremist Jihadis. And if Jihadis start infecting Sri lanka we will have no choice but to deal with Jihadis(not muslims) the way we dealt with JVP and LTTE. Christian community and Pro egypt , suadi muslims back the jews. There are many who support the government who back the Jews. Isreal has a high technology and they are willing to transfer it. If we take a non aligned stance we can mediate in the conflict.
Jews have faced persecution. They are careful of sacred sites of the muslims. The sacred mount is a sour point to christians and jews. Many feel that there has to be a settlement of joint worship there.
Jewish interest buy land in occupied teritory. The solution lies in middle east powers buy land and see that there is security there. All l;and should be asesible to all. Specially in sri Lanka. Israel not only trained the Sri Lankan army to fight the war, but they are so devious, they ALSO trained their enemy, the LTTE at the same time. Those Israelis are sure cunning, calculating, and greedy. Stop getting your information from TelAviv, because it is wrong, and easily disproved.

According to Victor Ostrovsky, the Israelis referred to us, as MONKEYS. It makes some wonder why God’s chosen wants to operate here in Sri Lanka.

“When the Tamils started fighting the Singhalese for independence in 1983, the Singhalese President Junius Jayawardene brought in 50 Mossad officers to train his security forces at a place called Maduru-Oya. This was not secret. It was in all the newspapers.

From that point on, Mossad armed, trained, and equipped both sides. (Since the Tamil forces are smaller than the Sri Lankan army, the zio-media calls the Tamils “terrorists.”)

In 1991 Victor Ostrovsky, author of By Way of Deception, told Indian Abroad news service that Mossad brought many Tamils to Israel for training in 1984 and 1985. “These groups kept coming and going. When I was in Mossad, it was part of our routine job to take them to training camps and make sure they got training worth what they paid for, no more and no less. The Singhalese paid in cash.”

Ostrovsky said the arrangement for training was made by the Mossad liaison in India, who lived there under a British passport.

We know from sources other than Ostrovsky that shortly after the war broke out in Sri Lanka, Mossad approached a group of officers from India’s Research and Analysis Wing (RAW, which is India’s equivalent to the CIA). In July 1984 this inner RAW circle arranged with Mossad to send Tamils to Israel for commando training. Mossad paid the RAW team for this by setting up accounts for them in the BCCI bank. (More about this below.) The Tamil commandoes that went to Israel became known as the TELO. They are separate from the main Tamil rebels, known as the LTTE (Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam).

Meanwhile the Jews simultaneously trained the Tamils’ enemies (the Singhalese) in Israel, but did not tell the main Tamil army, or the main Indian government, or anyone else. In Israel they kept both Goy groups apart. The Jewish purpose for this, as always, was to fan the war to a fever pitch, and make a fortune as the Goyim kill each other.

Each group had 60 members. Training started with a two-week basic commando course at an Israeli base known as Kfar Sirkin near Tel Aviv. This is a fairly large base, but on one occasion the two groups passed within a few yards of each other while they were out jogging.”

As I noted, Mr. Farook’s letters do create much debate amongst your readers, and the question of Israel vis-à-vis the rest of Arab world draws a lot of flak, from both sides.

Mr. Foarook’s message basically is that the ‘Yahapalanaya’ was elected with 95% of the Muslim vote maybe subject to more detailed analysis. Likewise, the Al Masjid site is claimed by the Jews as their Holiest place. The Christians too have a claim so we should leave aside a debate on religions as we will hardly get anywhere with that. What the Jews ask is that they too should be allowed access to this place of worship.

As for the question of the rights of Israel to have bi-lateral ties with Sri Lanka, this is a basic requirement for us, if we want to truly open our borders for Foreign Direct Investments. We must understand that there are many Jewish investors and they maybe from Israel or other nations such as the U.S., England, Europe, Canada or wherever but if investors sense we do not welcome any particular nation, they begin to be leery. India has had full diplomatic ties with Israel for several decades but the large Muslim community in India does not appear to mind this. It is noted that the Prime Minister is proposing the removal of the infamous “Property Requisition Act” which was a serious hindrance to FDIs.

Many commentators seem to point out that Israel is a ‘pariah’ nation that forcefully took over Palestinian land.

During the Davidic Period of Israel’s history, then known as Israel and Judah, the land mass was roughly four times the size it is now. The Northern Border of Israel extended to nearly Damascus, Western Borders well into Jordan and Syria, the Southern Borders to South of Kadesh Barnea in Egypt. One can do a ‘map search’ of Israel’s history in the web for clearer information.

Following the Babylonian Captivity (of Israel) the population was depleted, as many Israelis died or was forcefully taken to be settled in other parts of the Babylonian Empire. Many migrated to the North(Russia, Ukraine, Germany, France, etc many to the East, even to Burma and India). I do not know if there are any Jews in Sri Lanka, but there are many “lost” and immersed with other peoples of the world. But right now, many have returned to Israel and continue to return. This is a phenomenal development, which the Jews and Christians believe is by Divine Inspiration Prophesied in the Holy Bible, close to the coming of The Messiah or return of Jesus Christ.

Since my comments a few minutes ago, it is noted that Egypt has voted in favour of allowing Israel into the U.N. “Space Exploration and utilization Program”. (They also voted in favour of Israel in 1948)

Egypt has called upon all Arab nations to enter into a peace agreement with Israel as it would benefit those Arab nations. So, why not Sri Lanka?

While we are on the subject, I think we should be ashamed of the way the displaced Muslims of the North and East are being disregarded. Today, I saw a picture of an elderly Muslim lady, utterly emancipated and lonely, dejected and desperate squatting by a few cadjans, which may have been a shelter. Whether we are Sinhalese, Tamils, Muslims or whatever, we have no reason nor excuse to treat these humans who are our brothers and sisters in that manner. Many were displaced. Wars do cause such displacements. Six years have gone since the “war” ended, our roads are being upgraded, harbours, airports and mega cities are being planned and built but we leave a section of our OWN people to rot away, ignored!! I am ashamed.

You know what? I am reminded of a verse in the Holy Bible that goes, “Innocent blood calls for vengeance”. I am sure similar teachings will be there in all religious Books but so long as we leave just ONE person in the lurch, we will not be perfectly happy.

      Ksoysa,

“You know what? I am reminded of a verse in the Holy Bible that goes, “Innocent blood calls for vengeance”. I am sure similar teachings will be there in all religious Books but so long as we leave just ONE person in the lurch, we will not be perfectly happy. “

You seem to be on the verge of seeing the light. The above would apply nicely to Palestinian civilians too.
I would advise Mr. Farook to tone down some of his language. It only gives more ammunition to the knee-jerk Muslim-hating commenters.

I don’t know if this is a lie and propaganda or true. Can Mr. Lateef or Hilmy tell us if it is a lie? I heard this sort of story in Sri Lanka too when a Upper Class Kandyan family daughter married her high school sweetheart Muslim boy and he abused her and forced the kids to be raised muslim. Are these true? I know one Catholic Tamil boy who insisted his girlfriend convert to Catholicism too. And she had the strength to break off with him though he was a nice guy. Him being Tamil was never an issue, it was that even though he was a Colombo upper class Tamil, he insisted his girlfriend convert to Catholicism and her family also were aristocrats and though that was beneath their dignity.
    Can someone clarify this?

In an interview with CNN, a monk named U Wirathu did not hesitate to name what he said is the No. 1 threat to his faith: Muslims.

“Their law requires Buddhist women who marry into their religion must convert (to Islam),” he said. “They take many wives and they have many children. And when their population grows they threaten us.

“And,” he concluded, “they are violent.”

U Wirathu is a monk of the worst sort.. no different to maniac evangelists, neo-nazis, crazy mullahs and the rest of the lunatic fringe, including Fat Thug Monk of BBS who is a b@ll-scratching pal of Wirathu

Unfortunately, they make the loudest noises and appeal to the worst in us

The Church has a very novel way of converting and increasing the Christian population in Sri Lanka , they get the Christian men or women to marry from any other religion, but has put a strict restriction in admitting their children to the good schools unless the children are Catholic or Anglican, just because the parents wants to put the children in good schools , the children automatically become Catholic.

What a cunning way of increasing the Christian population; this is happening in massive scale in Sri Lanka

The Quran when talking about the Jews says that they are corrupt and will cause mischief on the earth, now everyone can see this is true.

All the prophets of God cursed this community for their arrogance and committing mischief, including Jesus himself. Everyone can see this is also true

At a time when they gays and lesbians are not shamed to tell the world who or what they are, the Jews still hide behind pseudo names not to reveal their true identity, be in Hollywood or anywhere else.

    Isn’t this a real curse.

Thank you for letting the cat out of the bag, the real reason for hatred of Jews, which is not based on facts or history but on the religious views you choose to believe.

Just for the record, Jesus said that salvation is of the Jews (John 4:22) and He also admitted that he was the King of the Jews. Most of the prophets of God were Jewish: Moses(Arab name Moosa), Isiaiah (Yehiya), Solomon (Suleyman) David (Dawood), Zechariah (Zakaria), etc.

Jesus forbids : Lying and deception (whether to believers or unbelievers), Anger, Murder, Rape (rape is haram-forbidden in Christianity regardless of whether the victim is of the faith or not), Theft/ Robbery.

How many people did he kill / rape/ rob on earth zero. The Almighty God’s (Allah’s) plan of salvation was revealed through him.

Sri Lanka as a nation has to get on with all other nations, good and bad. We cannot afford to pass judgement on what other countries do. However it is incumbent on ourselves to recognise evil when exercised on other innocent humans. Today in another newspaper I read about a young Muslim woman stoned to death by another group of Muslim men supposedly in the name of Allah. This poor lady’s crime was running away from an abusive marriage. Nobody and no other religion is doing more harm to Muslims than Muslims themselves. Their Sharia Law is barbarism personified yet hailed as tenets passed down from Allah and needs no reform to drag it to the 21st century. Some Muslims in Sri Lanka live in dire poverty but the aids received from rich Muslim countries is spent on Madrassars that brainwash the Muslim children and building even more mosques and foolishly planting date palm trees to emulate Arabia.

“Sri Lanka as a nation has to get on with all other nations, good and bad. “

First the people of this island must learn to live with others who were born here by accident before getting on with other nations.

“However it is incumbent on ourselves to recognise evil when exercised on other innocent humans.”

How about recognising evil when exercised on our own people?

” Nobody and no other religion is doing more harm to Muslims than Muslims themselves.”

Are you sure? What about Sinhala/Buddhists harming the Sinhalese and Buddhists. Fathers raping their own daughters perhaps is not a serious harm, is it? Knowingly sending women folks to middle east medieval kingdoms to be ill-treated is perhaps not really a harm in itself, but blaming the Muslims is vital for the very existence of little islanders.

      Sylvia,
If you believe that only Muslims can be barbaric, I would like to remind you that in the RWANDA genocide, both sides were Christian.

Please check out this wikipedia page which gives more details of gruesome mutilations (with pictures) carried out by Russian Christians. I do not believe the Muslims have gone to such extremes yet.

You dear Mr.Latheef Farook, seems to be in a box, that you have made for your own self. If Muslim/Arab countries that border Israel, like Egypt and Jordan, as well as our own neighbour India who have such a vast Muslim population, after all they appointed a Muslim – Azharudeen – as their national cricket captain, who really deserved that place, i must add, has a fully pledged Diplomatic Mission in India, what is your grouse about a group of Israelis coming here for a short visit?
SRI LANKA IS OFFICIALLY A BUDHIST (NOT A MUSLIM) COUNTRY THAT STANDS FOR TOLERANCE, REGARDLESS OF THE RELIGION OR ETHNICITY OF ANY PEOPLE.
The government of Sri Lanka is NOT BOUND to conduct itself according to the whims and fancies of any particular group of people, as proven by the multi party government that consists of prominent Muslim politicians themselves, that govern this country.
We should welcome any group of people, from any country, specially if they have a Democratically elected government, for the mutual benefit of both countries, because today we live in a global world that is inter-dependent upon one another and totally disregard the grumblings of a disgruntled few.
