Struggle For Truth & Accountability For Easter Bombing Needs To Continue: NPC

Four years have passed since the fateful Easter in 2019 which plunged the entire country into shock and terror. The synchronized attack by a team of 10 suicide bombers took the lives of 272 persons and injured another 500 or more in a total of six simultaneous attacks- on three churches and three luxury hotels. The victims included entire families, parents with their children and also foreign citizens who had come to spend their Easter in Sri Lanka. The country virtually shut down for two months during which time people were living on rumours and afraid to venture into crowded areas. There was no logic in the attack in which one minority religious group targeted another minority religious group with whom there had been no prior local history of conflict.

The investigations by governments under three successive presidents, however, have not disclosed the truth of who was behind the attacks. The best that has been done so far, has been by the Supreme Court. This followed a Fundamental Rights case filed by the Catholic Church and other citizens as no proper investigations were initiated by the government to provide legal redress. Having perused the investigation reports, it found former President Maithripala Sirisena and four senior security officials guilty of negligence in having failed to act on intelligence information that they had received. They all were subjected to fines, running into millions of rupees which the officials in particular would be hard pressed to pay. Unfortunately, the court did not identify who was the mastermind behind the bombings. So the search for the truth must continue as it is now widely suspected that these horrific attacks could have been engineered in order to gain political advantage electorally.

Spokespersons for the Catholic Church led by Cardinal Malcolm Ranjith have registered their dissatisfaction with the government investigations so far. The Church is also putting pressure on the UN Human Rights Council on the need to carry out an independent investigation. There is a need to support the initiatives of the Church to identify and expose the perpetrators and not protect the culprits. The National Peace Council believes in the need for a truth commission to investigate the Easter bombings in the context of the failure of the current government investigations. The dead have no voice to demand justice, so it is the duty of the living to seek the truth. This is one of the reasons for the importance given worldwide to truth commissions to investigate controversial events of the past.

While we remember the victims of the Easter 2019 carnage, we cannot ignore the fact that family members of disappeared persons during the three decade long war have been protesting for the past 2000 days without any meaningful response from the authorities. We note that the government is proposing to establish a truth commission to look into what happened in the war and bring about national reconciliation. Such national initiatives which demonstrate the commitment of the government and larger society to achieve reconciliation through truth seeking and accountability for crimes committed, including the Easter bombing, need to be supported by opposition political parties, the business sector, religious leaders, civil society and the international community .

When you hit the bottom, you turn philosophical. That is where I am at.
When they don’t want to solve the mystery behind the murder of Wasim Thajudeen or Lasantha Wickrematunge would they want to unravel the mystery behind the Easter Bombing massacre!

      Nathan,
      In absolute agreement with you!!
For far too long the Politicians, Administration and Security forces in Cahoots have made this country a “Basket case”!!!???
      MUST STOP NOW.

Law and order not necessarily apply equal in this pride land. These officials have to bend and blind even they do balti too.
If you walk on the streets ask any kids who was behind the Thanajudden Lasantha and many more killings and atrocities.
Just asked for pure drinking water..killed them showed his mussels if crossed they knows the fate.
Land not like orthers, a monk representing nurses as union leader ,its not wrong but its a bid odd.

Yesterday, the next-in-command of the UNP, Wajira Abeywardane, and the ONLY MP, appointed through the National List, to fill the vacancy created by Ranil W becoming the President said: ” There is no possibility of finding the real “Master Mind” of the “Easter Attack” because the main person who carried out the attack has died”. At present, this MP is the “Most Influential” and a “Stalwart” in the “Inner Circle” of Ranil W’s administration.

I saw a picture going viral on social media showing the “IGP”-the “Head” of the Sri Lanka Police force of nearly 85,000 men and women, paying his “Homage” and in keeping with Sinhala/Tamil New Year Traditions, “OFFERING” a “Beatle Leaves” to “His Excellency” (in IGPs view) Mahinda Rajapakse, to start work in the “New Year”. MR was “Majestically” seated and this “IGP” in a “Bending” posture offered the “Beatle Leaves”.

With these kinds of “Foolhardiness” on the part of Legislators in “Command” and “Idiosyncrasy” and “Slavery” on the part of the Highest Ranks in Law Enforcement, what can NPC achieve in finding “ANY TRUTH” in the “Easter Sunday Massacre”? It would only be “WISHFUL” thinking.

      Simon,
“the ONLY MP, appointed through the National List”.
      That is incorrect.
How was Ranil Wickremesinghe appointed MP?

        Nathan,
        Please understand the concept.
RW was appointed as National List MP based on election results 2020 as UNP MP!!!
he became or elevated to post of President, after being appointed PM by GR and then to Post of President, by the constitutional process laid down in the constitution, if the incumbent President vacates his office mid-term!! It was legitimate, as that of DBW on the demise of RP 1993!!
That elevation, to president created a vacancy in the house of parliament and VA was appointed as the replacement to RW as Nominated MP for UNP in Parliament!!!???
Hope enables, clear your doubts on matter!!!??

“How was Ranil Wickremesinghe appointed MP?”
Picked from your response to Simon???
Perhaps, that was incorrect?? Was It???

How was Ranil Wickremesinghe appointed MP was not a doubt but an affirmation, that Ranil was THE National List MP.
In the previous line I had said that to call otherwise is incorrect.

            Nathan,
RW was appointed to parliament, as MP, then as PM and then elected by Parliament as REPLACEMENT President!!! Then on becoming so elected vacated his Member of Parliament!!!
There was only “ONE UNP MP” appointed after or as a result of 2020 GE and remains only “ONE UNP MP” in the same Parliament, possibly until next elections!!
            NO CHANGE!!!???

          3

          Mahiban,
I think Nathan’s statement has a moral argument instead of whether it is constitutional or legal right or wrong. Ranil was nominated by the UNP based on 2020 elections basis and he was elevated or appointed as PM or President but and he cannot entitle to that elevation or appoint ment. He still represents UNP.

          • 1
            2

            “He still represents UNP.”
Not after election as President– unless we apply different rules to his predecessors as presidents.

My recollection is that the 2 major parties constitutionally embrace the countries EP, if he is a member of the Party as its LEADER!!???
So then he has to be a card carrying member of the party!!!???
              Otherwise how could one lead????

            Ajith,
RW was eligible as a Member of Parliament – not because, he was a UNP MP!!!
That’s why Dallas Alahapperuma was eligible too, but he was not UNP but SLPP member!!!???
Once they are elected by parliament, simple majority as INCOMING REPLACEMENT EXECUTIVE PRESIDENT, they automatically lose the seat in Parliament as MP!!!??
Only after, he is elevated – Head of State – EP!!
I hope you understand the evolving or evolved situation as to RW
If he wishes could continue as UNP member as did DBW 1994, which he may!!!??

              Mahila,
I am not talking about the current practice or current constitutional rights. Ranil was nominated as an Member of Paliament by UNP which had only eligible to nominate one MP to Parliament. He was appointed as Prime Minister because of his MP positition. Then he was an acting President because of his Prime Minister Position. He is not elected as President by People. He contested to President because of his MP position. If he has not been a nominated MP by UNP, there is no way he become eligible for this opportunity to contest as President by elected by Parliament, not by people. All those contested for Presidency are from MPs of the Parliament.

          • 2
            1

Ranil was voted to power by 134 MP’s. How many votes did each one of the 134 MPs’ get. On this basis Ranil was elected to power by 134x Number of voters. Thus Ranil got a fair share of votes and today he is the President……………ha!ha!ha..

              KV,
              your point is interesting.
It is a matter of logic. When more than 270 people were killed and thousands were injured in the Easter bombings, people turned to vote for the ex-criminals who were the Rajapaksas. This happened by marginalizing UNP (1 MLA) and JVP (3 MLAs). However, JVP and UNP gained a lot (GSP plus, International Affairs, 19A, restore democracy, pay hikes to public sector workers ) in favour of good governance and brought many in favour of the public. In contrary to that, Gota’s 3 years which almost did nothing but bankrupted the nation.
In retrospect, holding elections with Sri Lankans is highly questionable. They feel holding elections is the only thing they can do in a democracy.
Other than the Yahapalana government, not any recent governments fulfilled their election manifesto promises. However, GG govt, was not welcome by very people.
Ironically, the successor government of gota did not accomplish anything favorable to the people. Ironically, Gota was given the mandate of 6.9 million by the people themselves. So who is to blame….obviously….the voters and the rulers.

Government sponsored anti terrorisom laws or state terror tactics will not prevail.

The collapse of such a government is inevitable.

Part II: What is the “INVESTIGATION” that NPC wants? Didn’t we have “THREE” of such: (1) A Presidential Commission appointed by then President MY3 (2) A Parliamentary Committee and (3) The “Malalgoda Commission” Do we need any and many more? Aren’t we “Overloaded” with “Volumes and Volumes” of “Reports” of those “Investigations”? Enough is Enough.
Then WHAT do we NEED? The ONLY NEED is to initiate “ACTION” based on those “Recommendations” by those “Commissions” and “Committees”. Already FOUR long years have passed. The Governments under “THREE PRESIDENTS” have “OPTED” to “FAIL” and “NEGLECT” that “ACTION” by Law Enforcement. This is the “BIG” question that all PEOPLE are trying to find an ANSWER to. So what is needed is “Action” by Law Enforcement including the Judiciary and NOT another prolonged “Investigation”.
We already know and it is crystal clear that this “Police” and the present AG will not and would never proceed with any proper “Action Plan” to bring the culprits to book. For example, it was after “Four” years the ex- AG -Dappula Livera was asked to come to CID to record a statement on his statement made: “This Attack was a CONSPIRACY”. He didn’t answer the call but said: ” Refer to my “SEVEN PAGES” letter addressed to IGP through which I have asked him what to do”.

The attacks were staged by Gota’s deep state officials who continued to function in intelligence and other strategic positions even under the ineffective Maithri-Ranil government. It was a false flag operation designed to create fear of ‘terrorism’ in the minds of people so that they would vote the ‘tough guy’ Gota to power. The game plan was to use misguided Jihadists who were emerging at that time and were eager to gain publicity for their ’cause.’ The deep state intelligence agents penetrated the Jihadist group and steered them to launch the Easter attacks by providing the necessary financial and logistical support. The fact that crucial intelligence warning by RAW was not acted upon, and Maithri took an uncharacteristic trip abroad during the attacks, is clear evidence of the conspiracy involved. Every Tom, Dick & Harry in the country knows this except the relevant state institutions, security apparatus, criminal justice system, and the commissions of inquiry who are responsible for ensuring the security of innocent people who pay them billions of rupees to carry out their duties.

      .
Brave Simon, I don’t think that it’ll be safe for you to reveal the identity of “SONIC-SONIC” You may be charged in courts. Remember what was done to Ranjan Ramanayake. Those who shed tears for him then, will rejoice because there is a different (and possibly worse) Dictator than Gota who lacks all legitimacy.

So you’re planning to reveal Simon’s identity to the CID now?

I think the Sinhala Man didn’t care before jumping to the comment. He has made it many a times in the recent past. Once called me in public ” absolutely dispecable” just because I dont give a damn to listen any videos on AKDISM.

His naivety and jumping into a reaction without thinking further, was common over the months.
He repeats me being rude and aggressive , however, he is often either funny or completely off topic.
Besides, he has been in the country all his life. And I admit today I am not up to date on some of the dire issues in my home country. That is also common to anyone who would not live there personally.

        Dear Simon,
        .
I didn’t give up, and I was rewarded with a 45 minute video. This is how I finally got through:
        .
        I got here: https://www.youtube.com/
        .
        That’s simple enough, isn’t it?
        .
I then put this in that display: “Eyjalaya News”. I had hit on that some months ago.
        .
        I then got here:
        .
        https://www.youtube.com/results?search_query=Eyjalaya+News
        .
        And here’s the remarkable video:
        .
        https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=l2SBkh9-Atk&t=2401s
        .
Yes, I have listened to it all. At the end of the video the speaker reveals his name: Srilal Priyantha.
        .
I’ve now put “my version” of the link into another tab and it works, but not when I go through YouTube, but when I do the simpler YouTube search.
        .
I’ve been fortunate this time, but I still feel a bit out of my depth! Let me submit, and hope one of these works.
        .
I hope that this helps unravel this shocking plot.

          Thanks Simon.
I have now discovered many more. However these are all just assumptions from their POV. I couldn’t sleep well when I thought about some of the victim families in Colombo. Finally I compared with Tajudeen’s mother and many others. Nevertheless, the continued existence of Mahinda Rajapaksa, the godfather of all major crimes, proves to me that Scott is allowed to walk free today at all levels of the country’s so-called independent judiciary. So my repetition of the term “mlechcha” fits like a glove, right?

In Sri Lanka genocide never gets punished. From the brutal insurrections where tit for tat killings and torture were conducted knowing no one will be prosecuted to the LTTE and the rogue armed forces units. This is our culture. Even the clergy indulge and support it under the table. There is no need to investigate any further about the Easter Sunday bombings. All the main culprits have been identified and there is plenty of evidence to hang them. But there are inconvenient truths lurking among the most guilty culprits who may on their death watch spill the beans and expose other more senior players. The Sri Lankan electorate has lost faith in the political leadership.

Ranil lacks accountabilty to the public.

Unless faith is restored in the government a revolution is inevitable ………

A new political culture is the desparate cry if un heeded will cause immense misery.

“Unless faith is restored in the government a revolution is inevitable ………”
The problem about people revolution is that the you cannot trust on people because people are subject to change the mind at any time. For example, Where are the people who marched to Colombo and took control over the Capital now after just a drama after changing the Boss who was chased away in 2020 after Bond scam.To day the cost of living is five times higher than it was when you chased away other EB drama king who came in 2019?
