Retired Major General Kamal Gunaratne insisted that the “traitors” who attempt to divide the country introducing a new constitution must be killed. Reminding the 1986-1989 JVP insurrection he said those traitors must not be given a decent funeral.
The former Commander Security Forces Headquarters – Wanni made the above remarks on Saturday in a meeting organised by Viyathmaga.
Former Secretary to the Ministry of Defence Gotabaya Rajapaksa chaired the meeting, which was also addressed by General Secretary of the Patriotic National Movement Dr. Wasantha Bandara, Design Director of Kandygs Anuradha Yahampath and Dr. Nalaka Godahewa.
Gunaratne said that the government was trying to bring in the new Constitution on the requirement of the Western forces and Tamil Diaspora to please Tamil separatists. He also criticised the government’s reconciliation process.
In his 26 minutes speech he castigated the people who want to introduce a new constitution and supporters of the new constitution as “traitors to the country”

A constitution is a very important document, Must be changed or a new one introduced after careful planning. The draft must be prepared by a non political body of professionals from many walks of life with interviews from all political parties for concerns. After the draft is prepared it should be published in summary form to the public and to obtain their wishes and concerns to be implemented after which the draft should be presented to the parliament for final debate and suggestions that could be approved by the panel implemented.
Our constitution was tinkered with for political gain and we have learned the mistakes, the must be amended specially the electoral system, it must be changed to 100% first pass the post. All parties loosing all their seats in an election should be given seat in parliament to represent their ideas on a worked out basis.The oversized political system must be reduced, Municpal ward system and election must be scrapped and the work designated to the UDA.
Some form of devolution of power to the governors of provinces should be made.
All must realize we are SriLankan and not divided by labels such as Tamils Sinhalese or other or even by language or religion.
All religion should have the freedom to be observed and all SriLankans should have equal rights.
No clergy of any religion should be allowed in politics,.
Harmony among people cannot be achieved by any form of legislation it can only be achieved thru friendship and respect.
But it is sad that a new constitution is been ill drafted and rushed thru to please few sectors and political gain without taking into consideration the importance of the very document.
God bless our country and may the politicians understand that the people of this country can live in peace without any problems it is they who created the mess and who are still trying to create division to secure their own positions.

One cannot twist the meaning nor change focus by putting quotation marks around the word “traitors’, as has been done. Does anyone disagree that the traitors who attempt to divide the country must be killed? Dilrukshi Dias Banadaranayaka, that brave Lady dragged Gota and so called 3 war heroes to court but next day she was forced to go home. There are some new fronts. one front is “Kaha Redi” brigade, “Doctor Brigade”, “Ranaviru Brigade” “Saitem Brigade” All the fronts leaders are crooks and thugs who should be in Jail counting iron bars. Yahapalan President is trying to be a bigger patriot than Ex.President Mahinda Rajapaksha. only difference is Yahapalana President still not started banging his chest. If the yahapalana Govt. is afraid to bring killers and culprits to books they should go home giving someone a chance who is capable of doing that.
