Suspects In Navy Abduction Ring Commodore Dassanayake And Commander Ranasinghe Campaigning For SLPP In The East

Two high ranking suspects in the gruesome kidnapping for ransom racket run by the Sri Lanka are heavily involved in election activity in the Eastern Province and campaigning for the Sri Lanka Podujana Peramuna while being in active service, Colombo Telegraph learns.

Both officials were given promotions

Commander Sumith Ranasinghe and Commodore D.K.P Dassanayake, both officers who were based in Trincomalee during the time the abducted boys were being illegally detained in the Gun Side Prison and were arrested as main suspects in the abduction racket, have been active in the Eastern Province – specifically Trincomalee for “election work”, highly placed sources told Colombo Telegraph.

Engaging in political activity and election campaigning while in service is strictly prohibited under the country’s election laws.

Both officers are currently based in Colombo, but have set up “assignments” in Trincomalee for the explicit purpose of engaging in election work in the Eastern Province.

“Dassanayake and Ranasinghe know the area well,” highly placed sources told Colombo Telegraph. “They were stationed there for a very long time and they know Trincomalee in and out. They are working with their own teams on door to door campaigns, promising residents all kinds of business deals and money in exchange for a vote for the SLPP candidate, Gotabaya Rajapaksa,” the sources added.

Colombo Telegraph learns that the navy high command is not unaware of the duo’s activities in the East. “Even the commander of the Navy knows why Dassanayake and Ranasinghe wanted to go to the East at this time, leaving their station.”

The same two officers were heavily involved in campaigning for Mahinda Rajapaksa in the 2010 presidential election, the sources said.

Two police officer attached to the Kurunegala Police in 2010 recently won a fundamental rights case in the Supreme Court, after being transferred for intercepting a Sri Lanka Navy truck carrying defamatory material about the 2010 presidential challenger Sarath Fonseka who was contesting Mahinda Rajapaksa for the presidency. The incident occurred on January 23, 2010, three days before the January 26 2010 presidential election.

Sources told Colombo Telegraph that what was less known was that the truck was carrying election propaganda material headed for Trincomalee, where Dassanayake and Ranasinghe were heavily involved in the Rajapaksa campaign for re-election.

“They’re back to their old election time tricks”, official sources told Colombo Telegraph.

The Navy duo were using their old contact networks and Pillaiyan and Karuna’s teams to carry out door to door campaigns in Tamil villages, it is learnt.

While being suspects currently enlarged on bail, both Ranasinghe and Dassanayake have won immense leniency from the high command of the Sri Lanka Navy and President Maithripala Sirisena. Both officials were given promotions, even after their arrest, and Dassanayake has been given repeated service extensions to allow him to remain in active service. In recent weeks, President Sirisena has been mulling making Dassanayake Rear Admiral and possibly Commander of the Navy, Sinhala language newspaper reports said.

President Sirisena has shown an affinity towards high profile suspects in the Navy Abductions case. His Chief of Defence Staff Admiral Ravindra Wijegunaratne, is accused by the CID of having helped the ringleader of the Abduction racket Chandana Hettiarachchi alias Navy Sampath to evade law enforcement and allegedly escape the country. Wijeguneratne has also received repeated service extensions and continues to serve (while out on bail in connection with the abductions case) as the country’s highest ranking military officer.

On Twitter and Facebook, Dassanayake’s daughters are unabashed supporters of the Rajapaksa regime. Dassanayake was one of several suspects implicated in gruesome crimes to be in attendance at Namal Rajapaksa’s recent wedding ceremonies in September this year. IP His family posted pictures with the happy couple on social media after the event. IP Neomal Rangajeewa, one of the accused in the Welikada prison massacre trial now being heard before a High Court Trial at Bar, was also present and the Hambantota MP’s wedding ceremony, and also posted pictures from the event. More great timing. I thought CT was an impartial observer not a mouthpiece for any particular party. Oh but I forgot – ‘in journalism, truth is a process’. Certainly looks like it.

Navy Abduction Ring Commodore Dassanayake And Commander Ranasinghe,

You are paid whole in service by the Taxpayers, and you cannot take sides. You may caste your vote to any candidate, traitor, imbecile killer etc, of your choosing, but not wile on service.

So you are campaigning for the coward , traitor and Para-Alien (American) Nandasena Gotabaya Rajapaksa, who fled to America from the Army without facing the LTTE? Shame on you.

That’s not a surprise. Campaigning while in service – example set by none other than YR. Not sure why the State does not prosecute?

Most of the alleged criminals, miscreants and depraved are flocking around SLPP / MR / NGR. Afterall, they are fostered and supported by that Group. Birds of a feather flock together.

The criminal grandfather has promised to release the supposed (cardboard) war heroes who are in custody for alleged criminal activities on November 17th! The depraved grandfather becomes the judge, the jury and the executioner from that day!!

“They have done unparalleled service to the country when in service.”

Such as kidnaping, killing, causing forced disappearance, lying, ………….

“Both Commander Sumith Ranasinghe and Commodore D.K.P Dassanayake, are well respected navy officers.”

Mafia dons and enforcers are also well respected.
What respectability has got to do with murderers, kappang karayas, ….. ?

Having their own political views is their right and no one objects to it. If you understood the article you will know they are engaged in political campaigning. It is an offence under the Navy Act and punishable by court martial.

Have their own views and support the candidate whom the like. But let them not use their position in uniform to influence the ordinary people.
They are not paid by the public to do election propaganda. I can understand their anxiety in case a president is elected ‘not to their convenience’.
SC Pasqual!, well respected by whom- by people like you.

Guilt by association. Voters must think twice before electing leaders who seem to have questionable associations and connections with murderers, suspects, and undesirables. Any decent leader will distance himself from such scum.
Having such characters campaign for them, only reflects badly on them. Have they no shame? Are people so ignorant that they do not see the gravity of this situation?
Coming colors not good Sri Lanka.

The votes are in the hands of the people. The last time they, the voters, made a terrible mistake, perhaps this coming election will give them the opportunity to choose the right candidate for the high office.

Sri lanka politics since 1977 have taken a complete different course .

The excutive President does not need any general knowledge not even vital informations such as political education, Knowledge in economics, Skills in international relations , etc.
Our constitution does not demand such leadership simply because it has a puppet parliment that encourages impunity with zero accountability and with a goverence of administration that allows free pilferation of the treasury , natural resources , financial aids, grants , foregin loans, and manupulationof all government tenders.

What is needed to run for executive president is very simple, First you spread hate, racism , religous bigotry , create a bogeyman among a minority to raise fear in the minds of people , then continue to offer some handouts that will continue to leave the poor ,poorer, (a fixed vote bank) .

What is needed is a constitution and set of confedrations where all the people will become actively involved in decision making in all matters of the country in every province , electrol divs, villages and cities , the income should be shared by all citizens , especially the tea estate workers should be made shareholders not given petty increaments that is not even enough for a day meal, same with public transport system.

Once you have a constitution that is based on fedralism of peoples administration of provinces , their districts , villages and Cities with 100% transperancy and lock all the politicians accountable to one powerful supreme parliment , racism , hate , and poverty will vanish , people of all ethinicity will be forced to work together to develop the nation.

For me until the above is implemented the candidates are totally irrellevent in seeing any changes ever in Sri Lanka.

As usaul end of 5 years we will end up with more debts and infrastracture that has no use to the common man and instead ,the common man will be squeezed more to maintain those infrastactures and also pay the loans taken to build them.

So be it and My Lanka dont you cry tears of blood for me.

Tks Bandu, who cares about Politician’s. It is we the people who need to create the platform to force the system we want and will benefit the common man .
We need to put race and religion aside and think as Sri lankans and form a citizens platform and shout out and keep shouting until we have it.
Only the media can help us with it.
Hope Colombo Telegraph will help us with it.
      cheers

Even Garbage collection , disposal and recycle must be streamlined , instead of collecting individually from each house , a central point should be set up with seprate bins for each item accordingly and the new collection should be immidietly put to recycle while the old dump should be sorted for recycling .

Again here the men and women working in this sector should be provided with better hygiene appratous and definetly a good financial incentive so they will be happy to do a better job

Change the trade union into a tripart counsulting crisis solving mechanism to avoid strikes by negotiation.

Singapore has an excellent and successful mechanism to solve Union issues, Sri lanka must become more willing to learn from other countries and give up egoism for the benifit of Country and people.

        @Thomas,
Thank you and I also believe amnesty should be offered to all those who may have done wrong , especially during war , no nation in this entire world who went to war is free from such allegations ,, including civilians who have committed wrongs of every nature.
Instead of trying to please other nations who are guilty of the same wrongs ,but because of their power and status in the world enjoy special impunity We do not have to bow down to such pressure, this is why you should avoid war at all cost , there are no victors in a war , everyone are losers in some way ,only in forgiveness , tollerence and establishing peace there is true victory.
I am disappointed with Mr.Sajith’s announcement of death penalty ,am sure its not his thought but bad advice.
How can you punish the living for wrongs and forget the same wrongs done by those who are not living among us today ? only because we had a bad constitution that favoured a particular lot and it is no different today and niether nothing will change tomorrow until the constitution is changed that lets the people tell the politician how to run the Country and not the reverse, The Country should be the cart , the politicians good horses and the people must be the ones riding and directing the quality horses.
Right now our constitution is such the country is still the cart but laden with valueless payloads which are nothing but burdens and we the people are used like cattle to bear it while all the politicians enjoys the luxurious ride ,Will finally lead us to the “
slaughter “house which is total bankruptcy of the nation.

If we only punish the living but not having being able to punish the dead for the same wrongs committed , only because our constitution did not have the power to do. so ,will be one of the worst crime and injustice done to the victims .
We need to stop politicizing everything and put tye house in order first .

Accused persons are innocent until proven guilty.
They do not loose their civic rights.
How about Ravi Karunanayake the bond scammer being a cabinet minister and deputy
    of the UNP?
People are suspected of all kinds of things. Gotabhaya is suspected of white van abductions. Ranil has long being suspected of the Batalanda JVP purges. He was a member of the
Cabinet when the 1983 pogram against Tamils happened, and when the murder of 60,000 sinhalese youth took place. These people were in power when the Tamil LTTE murdered innocent Muslims praying in Kattankudy . If they these people are suspected of getting rid of LTTE vermin, that is a point in favour of them
