The Curious Case Of Jeyakumari

By Tisaranee Gunasekara

“If they treated us like this for engaging in a demonstration one can imagine the situation in the North. We thought they did something big by finishing the war in our country. Now it looks as if they just killed innocent people” – A Weliweriya resident[i]

Jeyakumari Balendran is often pictured carrying a picture. The enlarged and laminated photograph shows a group of adolescents doing physical-exercises. Ms. Jeyakumari’s youngest son, a former child-soldier, is reportedly in the photo; the photo is from a government publication showcasing the regime’s rehabilitation programme.

KiliMs. Jeyakumari’s story is the story of her community in microcosm. Her two older sons joined the LTTE voluntarily and were killed in the war. Her youngest son was forcibly conscripted in the final stages, as part of the LTTE’s “quest to pursue a war that was clearly lost….(and) to preserve its senior leadership”, as the Darusman Report phrased it. The young boy survived that final murderous spree and returned to his family. Ms. Jeyakumari heeded the call of the Lankan authorities and surrendered her son. While in the custody of the Lankan state, after he was photographed being ‘rehabilitated’ by the Lankan state, the boy vanished.

That was how Ms. Jeyakumari came into limelight – and the attention of the authorities. She went to the LLRC, participated in demonstrations, met politicians and gave media interviews. Ms. Jeyakumari had proof that her son survived the war, was surrendered to the government and was in governmental custody – proof provided not by a Channel 4 video but by an official government publication. “She has a strong case against the government because it published a photograph of her son in a government book depicting rehabilitation of rebel fighters”[ii].

If her surrendered-son is dead, it would indicate that war crimes continued to happen, post-war.

The Rajapaksa state thus has every reason to be concerned about Ms. Jeyakumari and her relentless struggle to unearth the fate of her son.

Tony Benn, that giant crusader for justice who died last week, said, “I think there are two ways in which people are controlled. First of all frighten people and secondly, demoralise them”[iii]. The two tactics are often interconnected. Frightened people become demoralised easily; they are more likely to abandon their public struggles and retire to their private spaces. Ms. Jeyakumari’s arrest might work as a potent disincentive and make many Tamil civilians abandon their own efforts to discover the fates of their loved ones.

The authorities claim that Ms. Jeyakumari was harbouring a Tiger suspect and a mine-detector. The same authorities claimed that violent protestors attacked peaceful soldiers in Weliweriya: “Military Spokesman Brig. Ruwan Wanigasuriya, refuting allegations, said that it was the villagers that first attacked the army and police with clubs, sand bottles and petrol bombs but not the army or police”[iv].

The attempt to depict the Weliweriya protestors as terrorists failed because Weliweriya is in the Sinhala-South and the media refused to be cowed. Even then, against all available evidence, the regime continued to blame the protestors and to castigate their just struggle for safe water as an anti-national conspiracy. The President himself repeated this lie at the beginning of this election-season: “Some elements have launched a subtle campaign to destroy the country’s economy by inciting people to evict factories”[v].

Would such a government hesitate to arrest a Tamil dissident and accuse her of terrorism?

Weliweriya and Killinochchi

Akila Dinesh, the 17 year old student killed in Weliweriya, “was about 200 meters away from the….main road when the army chased him firing at him. ‘While they were chasing Akila they broke a CCTV camera fixed to a house knowing that their ‘brave’ actions would be recorded….they fired at the street lights and then chased away the people shooting all over,’ said Malkanthi, a neighbour.”[vi] Akila Dinesh escaped a traitor’s epitaph because he was a Sinhalese and his killing happened a few miles away from Colombo.

Ms. Jeyakumari is Tamil; she lives far away from Colombo, in a de facto occupied-territory, almost inaccessible to Southern/international media. In such a restrictive environment lies and truth are easily interchangeable. The police and the army can surround her village in military-operation style, and seal if off; she and her little daughter can be interrogated for hours; she can be taken before a magistrate in the dead of the night and detained under the PTA; and she can be incarcerated in Boosa, with no access to the outside world and no news about the fate of her little daughter, apart from what her persecutors choose to tell her.

It was Jeyakumari Balendran, the mother, who braved the Lankan state and the ubiquitous and hostile military. The same maternal love can be used to silence her. After all, her only surviving child, her young daughter who reportedly attained puberty just this month (March 2nd) is in the hands of the same state which ‘disappeared’ her son (the little girl is reportedly terrified and asking for her mother). Perhaps somebody thought that Jeyakumari, the mother, can be made to incriminate herself and her fellow campaigners by using the safety of her daughter as a bargaining-chip?

What a coup for Geneva!

The UN Human Rights Commissioner, in her latest Sri Lanka Report, stated that “….legal proceedings have not begun against any LTTE suspect for alleged war crimes or other human rights abuses”. The Rajapaksa-state, which is detaining Ms. Jeyakumari under the PTA, has failed to indict a single Tiger suspect it already has in custody. This same state also set free Vellupillai Pirapaharan’s designated successor, simply because he agreed to change allegiance from the Tamil ‘Sun God’ to the Sinhala ‘High King’.

In January 2010, while presidential election votes were still being counted, the downtown hotel in which Gen. Fonseka and other opposition leaders were staying was surrounded, military-style. At the end of that long siege, the serving soldiers who were assigned by the state to protect the presidential candidate, as per law, were forced to kneel on the road, handcuffed and taken to jail like so many ‘terrorists’. The regime which can do that, and arrest the war-winning army commander in another military-style operation weeks later, can certainly arrest a dissenting Tamil woman and use the safety of her daughter to break her.

For those who removed the name of Gen. Fonseka from the list of Army Commanders displayed at Deyata Kirula[vii], affixing the terrorist-label on a dissenting Tamil woman is nothing.

The Sinhala-South got a tiny taste of the ‘Humanitarian Operation’ in Weliweriya: “They attacked barbarically, brutally…. There is a rule of war….hospitals, temples, churches and schools cannot be bombed or invaded….when a man comes forward with arms raised you cannot shoot.” [viii]. “The injured had to be taken to the hospital through paddy fields and cemeteries.”[ix]

Similarly, the persecution of Ms. Jeyakumari foretells the future fate of Southern dissidents.

The Tiger leaders betrayed their followers and their community, as the embarrassingly-unheroic dénouement of the Eelam War demonstrated. The Rajapaksas are sacrificing Sri Lanka to their power-hunger. The plight of Jeyakumari Balendran and her little daughter is symbolic of the LTTE’s failed struggle and of the Rajapaksas’ failing peace.

What has happened to the usual pack of jackals (all the same people under different names as CT has identified) who start abusing Tisaranee every time she publishes some irrefutable truth?
Are they preparing some lies for after Geneva or are they in Sri Lanka having a holday and shopping at Sri Lankan taxpayers’ expense, as they usually do, being given a guided tour of “interesting” places by Rajapal Abyknaike?

        Brilliant stuff Thisaranee Dear.
Keep up your excellent work and be of good courage.
Hope that silly civil society activist, Jehan Perera who gave a “peace award” (ha, ha, ha) to the queen of hypocracy, Dr Nimalka Fernando (with her fake doctorate from god knows where?) while is in bed with Mahinda Jarapassa’ s dead leftist and Minister for Social Disintegration, Vasudeva Nanayakkara the clown of the hypocrites, will give you an award sometime.

On second thoughts dear, a peace prize from NPC would be an debasement of your courage and intelligence. You Madam Thisaranee deserve the alternate Nobel Prize!

“…. after he was photographed being ‘rehabilitated’ by the Lankan state, the boy vanished”

There are 2 kinds of Rehabilitation under the Madamulana Rajapaksha Regime. 1. KP kind of Rehabilitation. Under this kind of rehabilitation he or she will get the VVIP treatment and protection from Gota’s Ranaviru forces and he or she can open NGO with regime help. Under this kind of rehabilitation all the Assets, details of Numbered foreign Bank Accounts, Gold and everything should transfer to the brothers and company to get the VVIP treatment and to become a “Deshapremiya”

2.Son of Jayakumari’s kind of Rehabilitation.this means simply “Vanished” to the thin air.

What proof has she given that the boy was handed over to the GOSL?
Where can I find the GOSL photographs she is talking about?

Going by the claims of diaspora I am becoming skeptical about this kind of claims.

        @eusence,
Yes we have to look for evidence for incidents, killings, abductions, Rapes happened in the north as our king wants to buy the time. in the south also people asking who killed Lasantha and 21 others. people are asking who abducted Prageeth eknaligoda and many others.People are asking who ordered to abduct Wanathamulle Sunil?, people are asking who ordered to shoot Rathupaswalla peaceful protest and killed 3 innocent youths. where are the commission reports as commissions appointed by the King himself? list will be very long. My friend there are evidence, but no “Deshapremeeyas” care about the evidence.

            Siri,
I am always willing to accept the truth. You need to realize that we had a 30 years of terror, and it was wiped out from our country. We need to go forward now, we can’t live in the past forever.
This woman is trying to discredit the GOSL by organizing protests etc. What did she do about her other children who were taken in by the LTTE terrorists and were killed? Why is she not making a big drama about that? Why doesn’t she and her supporters like you take her to the UNHCR and ask for justice from the remnants of the LTTE and the diaspora who funded the terrorists?

            • 4
              1

Your only excuse cant be 30 years war.
5 years are gone to this day. But nothing like establishment of law and order, respect and dignity have been set by the rulers.

Singing the song on war victory and making all efforts to further twist the mind sets of the poor of the poor in this country is well planned by MR regime.
As JVP and many other intellectuals make it clear to those who are far from undrestanding, just the out cover of the ministries have been given to those ministers making them totally paralized. So what is seen is ministers are powerless. Those donkeys too stay calm and quiet by enjoying their perks. But not the very same bunch would stay calm and quiet for the days to come. Yesterday that oral patient, SAID TO BE A DENTIST, himself said, that worst cant be achieved by the society…. that is a great compliment by him as one of the senior ministers of UPFTA…. ha hah..
times ahead .. we will see more of the likes.. as anybody sees it, I unequivocally believe, you would also see things with MUCH MORE CONSIDERATION in the days to come because we the academics in general have all powers to stand against all abuses.

            • 3

Besides, the credits in terms of war victory was brutally grabed by them to the very same manner they are with land grabs in the nothern areas. Even there are land grabs occur on day light in southern and other areas too.
So telling us the same on a repeated mode will only make it worse and ease for the opponents.

War is over – not only MR administration, but CBK, RanilW even previous regimes did their best by sacrificing even lives of prominent ones inthe country. These are the history. But as JVPers are pointing out clearly, winning was held only at the beginning of Mahinda Rajapakshe´s office.

But in the post war scenario, he has goofed up not being able to work on the human rights as promised at the begining. Even today, the muslims are on threat. Suppose, if you were one of the minorities, would you ever agree with GHANSARA the way he threatened you ” I will slice you into pieces or peel you off etc”. No right… Everyone of us have the the same right to fight for our rights. Not only us sinhalayas…… Silence of rulers have ruined this country today… as nothing worst can be the case.

First they came for the Jews
And I did not speak out because I was not a Jew
Then they came for the Communists
And I did not speak out because I was not a communist.
Then they came for the trade unionists

Dear cowardly fascists who rule Sri Lanka,

You need to start climbing out of the bottomless pit of shame you guys have fallen into.

Rekindle your childhood values of kindness you were taught in what is essentially a very humane society.

Stand with Jeyakumari and her only surviving child, a daughter. And not against them.

Jeyakumari is a citizen of Sri Lanka that has survived deep trauma. So was her youngest son who has vanished. They have rights under our constitution. You can only neglect them for so long.

Find out exactly what happened to her youngest son in the custody of Sri Lanka’s government. Admit nothing but the truth.

And beg for her forgivenss. She may never forget, but she might forgive.

That is the only way forward.

Hiding the truth and harrasing a helpless mother like cowards is not an option. Not anymore.

    Cheers!

PS: History will thank you Tisaranee for these articles.

”The Tiger leaders betrayed their followers and their community, as the embarrassingly-unheroic dénouement of the Eelam War demonstrated”.

Tisaranee unmasks Mara & his clan’s brutality on daily basis. She is an alarm bell to our society. Keep going lady.

On the other side of her stories, there travels a party (so smartly) – who betrayed their own people, who enjoyed luxuries out of the agonies of the poor and powerless.

They are in new uniforms – uniforms like…WTF, BTF, TGTE and some lone hyenas and Jackals in the UNHRC but all of them were the main reasons for the present agonizing plight of the Tamils.

They displayed their full fledged brutality during the final phase of the war.

Even though the US blocked all the arms supply route to the Vanni, long before the final battle- These money making butchers persuaded and pushed the illiterate war monger into the battlefield, without any source of arms supply for a mega battle but, knowing his time nears the end & their times dawning ahead.

The brutal men of ”Tamilselvan” were going house to house for forced proscription where helpless women like ”Jeyakumari” – after sacrificing her tow eldest Sons to the blood thirsty war monger, had also to lose her youngest & only surviving son to those blood thirsty animals who had had no respects at all to humanity or human values. That paved the way for their destruction, but innocent people like Jeyakumari has no end for their misery to date for the crimes committed by these vultures.

Meanwhile, the cronies of the war monger in Europe , North America and Australia clearly reading the signs of that time ,went house to house for a mass robbery. They collected trillions of Dollars, Euros and CHF. Now they all are millionaires but the poor innocent & emotional idiots in these parts of the world are suffering by losing their family lives.

Shameless & naked – these vultures and Hyenas are walking smart in the UNHRC now – calling themselves ”Human Rights Defenders of the Tamils.

Their one time or rather long time imperial enemy USA seems to be their Messiah now!!? Has anyone seen the USA wasting it’s time with people/ countries, where she finds nothing with regards to her interests !!? But these vultures boast that America is going to put Mara on Electric chair !!? The small minds in Europe were very excited to here this and they flooded Geneva last week to be tear gazed by the Geneva Police.

One crony of the LTTE who always claim himself a long serving HR defender in the UNHRC keeps entertaining the small minds through some online tamil news dailies in Europe – boasting that India is also works with the USA to tackle Mara. This crony who writes some silly articles in this forum time time , has recently wrote an article under the title…”Good , bad and ugly of the……”

He explained his usual terror based mindset…but I found it this way…
The good thing is that VP has been eradicated from the society. Thanks to the US that we will have humans at least after 100 years in our world. The bad is that the majority Sinhalese believe Mara is a Hero but ….when are they going to realize that Mara is just another VP and Gota is just Adolf Hitler !!

The ugly and ugliest part of the story are these hyenas and vultures. They are shameless, naked and greedy for power that could make them unquestioned mad creatures. They take cover under some loopholes. ”Non state parties can not be executed” is what they claim..and…they are trying their level best to make a come back at the expenses of the poor. These cowardice criminals supported by some Tamil Nadu creatures should be thrown out of our society for the sake of a healthy generation to come.

Let’s work together to build up peaceful and lovely Mother Sri Lanka through dialogue and democratic practice.

“Shameless & naked – these vultures and Hyenas are walking smart in the UNHRC now – calling themselves ”Human Rights Defenders of the Tamils.”

Aren’t these Shameless & naked – these vultures and Hyenas allowed to change their mind and transformed into human right champion? Would you like them to remain narrow nationalistic LTTE terrorists until their dying day?

      Give them a chance.

While we are on the subject of Human rights, do you remember a Human Rights activist who was knocking at UNHRC doors, begging them to consider his report on Human Rights violation perpetrated by the armed forces and now stand accused of war crimes?

Did he change his mind or a prisoner of circumstances?

“Let’s work together to build up peaceful and lovely Mother Sri Lanka through dialogue and democratic practice.”

Beg to differ I cannot accept Mother Sri Lanka, it should be renamed as Veddah land and restructured. Work together on whose term?

Where you’ve been all these days?

Hi Dude, happened to be away for a while to finish up my studies.

I know your concerns…and I also have had enough time with the people who hosted MaRa in Geneva. I visited the house where he stayed. Those very gentle people, after a sigh – claimed that they never expected to see a Pharisee in him.

Hoping spare some time here after, whenever I find it as I am fully occupied now.

I never fail to go through your comments. Keep going.

Just can’t believe the things still going on in this pariah nation ! This Country of devil ruling clan and their classic timing of this Jeyakumari episode and how dumb is the mad psycho of the ministry ? Wanathamulla Sunil was released but will Jeyakumari be ever released to see her daughter ? Or will she be disappeared too ? How UNHCR or Cameron going to treat this extra ordinary brutality ? Will this government ever stop these criminal activities and return to sanity ? There will be human among the majority community to feel for the injustice done to this traumatized mother and the daughter. There are no words to describe the actions of the defense ministry big bigot. May god and Buddha bless him !

This cant last long. Wait and see, we hve been sensing that waterloo of the current regime is being shaped right at the moment.

Physical roads or other constructions can even be built on unbearable sums of credits even in ethiopia; OR Sierra Leone. But building roads towards the peace and reconciliation are based on gentleness, honesty, magananimity and many other human characteristics. None of the mentioned are seen in Rajapakshes. People should finally get this by every means, then only we could achieve the final aim – which is none other than the peace among our folks, peace that will pave the way all of us to feel equally.
If I were one of the powerful man in lanken adminstration, I would have taken every step to make all these clear, but people of gentle sort would never be able to get on with born uncultured rascals, that seem to be enjoying the most vulnerable of the society make feel that we have achieved a lot.

Sri Lanka main opposition UNP raises accusing finger towards journalists for new Channel 4 video issue
    [ Sunday, 16 March 2014, 03:34.06 AM GMT +05:30 ]

UNP say’s government should question state media journalists and selected private TV stations who were allowed to cover the final phase of the war, for betraying the Army as well as the government,

The Sri Lanka’s main opposition United National Party, in the recent past, has made some strong statements about the UNHRC crisis, as well as the human rights track record of the country, taking a calculated risk in terms of being in the good books of traditional Sinhala-Buddhist voters.
Soon after the latest Channel 4 video was released, Lakshman Kiriella, a senior UNP Parliamentarian and Leadership Council member, made a strong statement saying the government should investigate the new footage.

During the inquiry, Kiriella said, the government should question state media journalists who covered the final phase of war as they, according to him, are responsible for leaked images and footage.

“Channel 4 said they got video clips from the British Tamil Forum. The truth is that the images and video clips were leaked by those who covered the final stage of war,” Kirella alleged.

“The government got into trouble due to their own myopic actions. There was no transparency during the final phase of war. No international correspondents were allowed in the war zone,” he flayed.

“Only state media and selected private TV stations were allowed to cover the war. Finally, they betrayed the Army as well as the government,” he pointed out.

“Some of the journalists, who covered the final stage of war, are not even in the country. Now those who covered the war with the blessings of the government have got the Army into trouble,” he charged.

But the Army vehemently denies this story saying journalists who covered the final phase of war acted in a highly responsible manner, according to reports.

SL Army should let the SL Government do the talking .this government responsiblty.

    • 5
      1

Kiriella is blaming the state media and some private journalists for leaking the news and videos to the outside world. He seems to say that the atrocities by the military should not have been exposed and implying that they were acceptable. Any responsible politician would have said that the atrocities were unacceptable and that an investigation be conducted and those responsible punished. This clearly shows how both the Rajapaksa regime and the UNP have the same intent of protecting the war criminals and hiding the truth.

      mj,

Please listen to CH 4 video again. Callum McCray say the video footage is from a Cell Phone Camera and that shows a soldier had recorded this footage using his cell phone camera and not from a Journalist as you mentioned.

      Please read the following web
      http://www.lankaenews.com/English/news.php?id=14124

Also for SL soldiers these photos and video clips were PRICE TROPHIES.
THEY WERE KEPT AS THEIR HISTORICAL ARCHIVES AND THERE COULD BE THOUSANDS MORE IN THEIR POSSESSION.

Also due to the desertation and low recruitment during the final stages of the war, Sri Lanka Army started enlisting even mere labourers who did not have even proper educationl qualifications(Grade 5 passed) to the Army as soldiers.

A gardener and many beach boys in my area joined the Army just before the final war and many told curious stories about the war.

I also think many more photos and video clips on final battle will come out in the future and also Jailing Gen.Sarath Fonseka contributed more of these clips to appear.

Finally as I always say that Tisaranee is a Born writer who has the natural skill to express her views on a unique way.

She is an exceptional and a unique writer and a journalist with a Golden Hand, where we readers are waiting in curious to read her letters.

Tisaranee should work at the UN as a Journalist and a reporter.

      I wish her well.

“Similarly, the persecution of Ms. Jeyakumari foretells the future fate of Southern dissidents.”

Will the Southern dissident Politicians ever realize the times ahead and take remedial action in their current activities? If they dont^t act now
    it will be too late.

This Regime is prepared to hold fast come what may via UN. They have

The reason why Jeyakumari was taken into custody is because she is a strong witness against the regime when the vanishing ex-LTTE soldiers case goes to the international courts. She is the one who handed over her son to the soldiers, now he is missing. The regime has to answer it. In Boosa either she will be brain washed or she will die there.

This type of things are not new for this nation. Sri Lanka has been on continuous violence from Bandaranake took over power. Bandaranake started with 1956, 1958s. JR went for Kandy pilgrim. So the Theror stopped Bandaranake’s terror with a murder. During Dudly’s period, for no reason, JVP put the foundation again. Srimavo reintroduced the terror. Srimavavo’s periods was honored by Premawathi’s murder. Those who were working in Kegalle, Mawanella came back home and told of the horrible stories of teen age bodies lying on the roads months after JVP was defeated. Srimavo’s Terror was stopped by JR’s terror. Jr’s terror was curbed by IPKF’s terror. IPKF’s terror was stopped by Preamadasa’s terror. Premadasa brought and end to JVP’s terror by killing Vijeyavera too. Premadasa’s terror was stopped by LTTE. Chandrika used thermobaric bombs in Jaffna and burned people alive. She was, like her mother, honored with Kisishanti’s murder, Chemmani masscre etc. Jet there was some peace for some times. Sarath N.De Silva wanted to reintroduced the terror forth time again. So he cleared the legal curdles hanging over MR to come to power. He took away Chandrika’s one year term for that. Now it is 100% sure that the King will not be removed from power with another terror from south. One has to say the start was 1948 rather than 1956. South is more comfortable with violence rather than ease of it. But for some reason so far nobody was able to put that problem in their head.

This “Thisaranee” writes; “She has a strong case against the government because it published a photograph of her son in a government book depicting rehabilitation of rebel fighters”[ii].
I thought she was giving a reference [ii] to see the photograph of her son in the “government book”. But the reference is to show the exact same comment she writes here made by possibly a Terror supporter in some Arab news site. My conclusion: both these women have no credibility!
What ever the other points she writes is also biased, she basically says she can’t trust the gov. based solely on quotes by other anti-Sri Lankan entities. This article has no value.

Jeyakumari provides irrefutable evidence of what happened to those captured by the military after the war. She had to be silenced and that is what the Rajapaksas are doing now. It is a blatant challenge to the UNHRC that is meeting and discussing Sri Lanka’s war crimes at this very moment.

Ms Gunesekera’s comparison of this event with what happened at Wellweriya is very apt but sadly the gullible Sinhala masses fail to see what the Rajapaksas are failing to see this. From GL Peiris’ evasive answer to a question on this at yesterday’s press conference will show the outside world how nasty the Rajapaksa regime is.

‘ONE OF THE BEST FROM TG’,
      TG’s work is always good.
A fearless writer who’s pen is lethal than Gothaya’s white vans.

What a sad story, could Camaron or Pillai resque Jayakumari.
Someone on behalf of Jayakumai should take this to Geneva with Sandhya Ekneligoda with her grief?

    Tisaranee

“I think there are two ways in which people are controlled. First of all frighten people and secondly, demoralise them.” – Tony Benn

Well Tisaranee, to tell you the truth, I have never been more frightened of anything in my life so far than by your writings. They give me nightmares: I feel I’m being led into a tiny cage and soon the door is going to be locked behind me leaving me and you alone together. You scare the hell out of me with your paranoia and conspiracy theories about some impending doom. In short your writings are a mental trap to unwary readers.

“Conspiracism is a particular narrative form of scapegoating that frames demonized enemies as part of a vast insidious plot against the common good, while it valorizes the scapegoater as a hero for sounding the alarm.” – Berlet and Lyons

“It was Jeyakumari Balendran, the mother, who braved the Lankan state and the ubiquitous and hostile military.”

Compare that with the likes of Kutti Machan and K.A Sumanasekera who dare not say a thing against the Rajapaksas due to their fear of the hunt dogs of the regime. If they are this afraid behind an Internet pseudonym imagine how scared they’d be if they had to come face to face with the hunt dogs? Bet they’ll starting peeing on themselves like Hula did.

Jeyakumari Balendran may be a woman and not physically imposing but she is a colossus when it comes to courage and bravery.

Just now I received this message –

    “Dear Colleagues and friends,

At around 10.05 pm tonight, several of his friends and colleagues received a text message from prominent Human Rights Activist, Ruki Fernando, on his mobile number xxxxxxxxxx stating that Ruki and Father Praveen have been detained at the killnochchi police station, apparently on suspicion of a shooting. Later, Ruki informed a colleague via text, that he and father Praveen were being questioned separately.

A lawyer who called the Killinochchi police station, was informed that no such persons were arrested by the Killinochchi police or being held at the police station. However the police said that two persons had been arrested by a specially appointed unit of the TID and were being held at a separate location in Killinochchi.

Another lawyer who spoke to the OIC Killinochchi was informed that Ruki and Praveen were being questioned and a decision regarding their continued detention would be made in the morning. This directly contradicts the version in the para above.

We don’t know the details of arrest or the facts leading up to it. We are very concerned for their safety and urgently need a lawyer who can visit the police station tonight and find out where they are being held on for what reasons etc. “

For all of my fellow Sinhalese countrymen, if you think for a moment this is their problem and not ours, please expect several more “Rathupassala” s in the coming times and more blood will be spilled in Southern youth. It is high time to rise as Sri Lankans together against this ruthless regime before it is to late. I would like to see more demonstration from South against this barbaric treatment of poor mother and her teenage daughter which is incomprehensibly inhuman.well done Tisaranee for the article and please publish in Sinhala also.

Clicked on the article hoping for a thoughtful piece on a plight of Jeyakumari and her daughter.

Instead I got a dose of crazy.

Tissa’s infatuation with Prabhakaran is both disturbing and revealing.

Tissaranee The arms struggle failed, but the freedom struggle will carry on until it’s won!

The late Tony Benn joined British Tamils at the 73 day long Tamil protests in London’s parliament square during the Mullivaikal massacres in early 2009. RIP Tony Benn.

“The late Tony Benn joined British Tamils at the 73 day long Tamil protests in London’s parliament square during the Mullivaikal massacres in early 2009. RIP Tony Benn.”

He was a man of principles and had been championing for the rights of all people. I am told my Elders had seen him marching against Sri Lankan state oppression since 1983, and not just in 2009.

Did Tonny Benn accept VP as his National Leader and approved all LTTE’s atrocities when he stood under LTTE’s horrible flag? Thats what you seem to imply.

“but the freedom struggle will carry on until it’s won!”

Freedom struggle for what, possibly another round of bloodshed?

Have you(TGTE)considered a financial package to compensate Muslims? This is not a difficult question to respond to.

          Britain lost WW2.
The Japanese bombed most of East India Company.
          Germans too bombed Madras.
The Japanese have not said sorry as yet but Britain still helps them- It’s called being cultured.

          `History `

If you look at all most all sports it’s a British invention.
Win or lose it’s how you play the game- Rice (Australian) So Lankans always say be a sportsman which we learnt from them. You live in a British colony and you are linked to the cowboy land that carries guns and does not believe in that.
Justice Sri-Skanda-Rajah was R vellala and just & my family knew him very well.
Why don’t you use your maiden name now or are you shy?

More strength to your elbow, dear Tisaranee. May your relentless battle
to save Sri Lanka from the fascism that has stealthily taken over succeed and free the people – now caught in a sea of lies and trickery. The captive Tamil Nation salutes you in your fight for reason and justice for all Sri Lankans in the four corners of the land.

Here we go again. The secretary of death is really busy and up to something big. Is he trying to teach Navi Pillai, UNHRC, USA, Cameron, the world anything ? Or something serious to Lankans in general ? I guess this mentally retarded should be sent to an institution and be rehabilitated if possible. This guy is nothing but a total ‘nut’ case. Just see the timing of his stupidly, bold and idiotic crime. This guy will bite the dust very soon, but before that he’s going to destroy more and more lives. Hey, Somebody, do something. I have no faith with this slow moving UNHRC, USA combine. They just don’t care about injustice or death and destruction. Even after all these, many modayas…sorry, many intelligent lankans are still believing in Rajapakses and their fake, patriotic show and games they play and cheat all and sundry.
It’s time people understand that we have a sick minded maniac, devil dancing in western suite, destroying everything like a de facto dictator President, who cannot be controlled or restrained by any one today ! Just watch this nation crumbling and do nothing like impotent onlookers. Or just blame everything as usual on Tamils, Tiger rumps, diaspora and continue supporting the real terrorist government, thugs, drug barons, hooligans and their media acolytes. Damn nation be damned !!

      Bruz,

Until you educate Yellow robed Buddhist monks who are been well looked after by the Rajapakses, and who are in control and influence the 70% buddhist in Sri Lanka……you will never be able to change Sri Lankan Buddist’s ideology or thinking pattern.

Buddhist monks are been brainwashed by the double acting Rajapakses and by their party goons on all issues.

Soon Sri Lanka will be either another Somalia or Myanmar in 1970’s thanks to the 70% Sinhala B…. Modayas.

So , what did Ruki Fernando and Father Praveen do wrong ? Probably they must have lobbed a grenade, shot at police, had bombs in their possession, or worked for the LTTE rumps trying to regroup again. ! Wow, what a police work ? Are they also going to the notorious Boosa camp for ‘rehabilitation’ of some kind ? Nize going guyz, nice going ! Keep up your good work TID boyz.
We are all having so much of fun these dayz watching all your patriotic activities under the sick secretary of offense.

as per this article all the LTTE terrorist fighter joined the group voluntarily. there were no forced recruitment and all were happy to be terrorists ? if a terrorist died as a civilian still its a death. what about the killing of Binladen and the Gadafi. did america punished the support groups such incidents. i saw the live footage of Hilary clinton and her reaction when the commanding officer shows the footage of killing Gadafy. i am sure the world world saw that since it was on BBC. why one set of rites for the powerful and strong nations and the other way for poor countries. i am sure this mother of gadafy if alive would protest in front of the world media, to the similar way as this photo. is this mother proud of her son when he was killing and bombing innocent civilians during the service at terrorist LTTE.

We are living in a country where Namalraja pussa has scored more marks in law college breaking the history of many including Prof. GL Pieris.
For a group of MPs including GL. Peiris, Namalraja pussa is the leader when they go for meetings. We hear of stories from people that Namal should be the next president, and some cowardice bootlicking senior MPs and ministers second the proposal. Killers are the guardians of Buddhism (They are right because they follow Mahavamsa Buddhism) Its sad to learn that Buddhist of Sri Lanka really don’t know what is Buddhism and therefore it is easy for Pussa family to cheat Sinhala Modayas in the name of Buddhism.

When Tigers were committing blunder after a blunder I knew their days are numbered. When they were cornered nobody wanted to salvage them out because by that time, they have lost all the respect and dignity. Shamefully the Rajapakse regime has failed to learn any lessons from them. They are carrying on same ruthless campaign to terrorize their own people.I know what their fate is going to be.Do they think they are going to live for ever. They have made a terrible miscalculation and will pay the penalty soon.
