The Elections: Making Choices, Revealing Character

By Dayan Jayatilleka

Dr. Dayan Jayatilleka

Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe wants to appoint a Commission into the issuance of bonds by the Central Bank during the second Rajapaksa term, when Ajith Nivard Cabral was the Chairman. Good. Excellent, in fact. I have a bigger matter into which I suggest he institutes an inquiry. It is about a wicked, unconscionable man who holds high public office, who could have pre-empted the death, disabling and suffering of tens of thousands by a single act—an act he did not have to commit, but only to permit or not prevent.

Anyone who fails to prevent suffering and cruel death of a single innocent person when he can, is a criminal and an evil human being. Anyone who can end or shorten a long, bloody rampage and the slaughter of innocents by a monster, by permitting its decapitation, is an irresponsible human being.

Here is the evidence, and not from a Sinhala ultranationalist or a Sinhalese at all but from a former lecturer at Sandhurst, perhaps the world’s most prestigious military academy:

“…On 20th December 2001 a Special Forces team was in place in the Vanni jungle. For once it knew for certain where the elusive Tiger leader was. The assassination team was due to strike on Christmas Eve. The team leaders were just ready to press the start button when they were countermanded, despite fierce intelligence arguments that Prabhakaran’s death would end the war…

The Special Forces operatives were stood down temporarily in a safe house in Colombo. In one of the biggest intelligence own goals of the war, the house was raided by Special Branch police from Kandy. The highly secret operation was exposed. It was not a case of overzealous detectives…The heads of military and national intelligence were overridden when the police arrested the operatives and jailed them in Kandy. They were released after two weeks and, as a scapegoat, a middle-ranking police officer was suspended, temporarily. It didn’t end there: the intelligence leadership was accused of using the safe house as a base to assassinate the Prime Minister. Once again, the Tiger leader was unscathed.”

–Paul Moorcraft, ‘Total Destruction of the Tamil Tigers: The Rare Victory of Sri Lanka’s Long War’, Pen & Sword Military, UK, 2012, pp. 38-39.

Prof. Moorcraft is, among a great many other interesting things, a former Senior Instructor at the Royal Military Academy Sandhurst, and the UK Joint Services Command and Staff College.

This evidence must be seen against the backdrop of reinforcing testimony by an alumni of Sandhurst, a man who topped the batch of foreign students which included fellow officer Denzil Kobbekaduwa. This is General Gerry de Silva, former Army commander who liberated Jaffna in 1995 and had been overall commander during the Vadamaarachchi operation in 1987, with Brigadiers Kobbekaduwe and Vijaya Wimalaratne commanding the two prongs. While generously praising General Sarath Fonseka for his role and sterling contribution, Gen. Gerry de Silva (former Josephian and hardly a Sinhala-Buddhist triumphalist) puts the historical record absolutely straight:

Former President Mahinda Rajapaksa and former Defence Secretary Gotabaya Rajapaksa were the persons behind the military victory. They gave the Army all the facilities including the increase in manpower strength (approximately 300,000 in the Army alone and the Navy and the Air Force had corresponding increases), state of the art weaponry ammunition and communications, even ships and aircraft respectively for the Navy and the Air Force, to fight the war. Having insufficient strength was always an issue. When I commanded the Army, it was 120,000 and it was not possible to fight in the North and the East simultaneously. This is probably why the campaign and the war went on for so long.

…We got the strength and the combat supplies was during the Mahinda Rajapaksa Government because Gotabaya Rajapaksa had operational experience (part of the Vadamarachchi campaign). He had knowledge of what was required to finish the war (and what we lacked) and also about the measly treatment given to us.

…When Chandrika Kumaratunga became President, we briefed her. Then she told the BBC that we were warmongers and that as she had come on a platform for peace, let us negotiate. The LTTE had the same organization operating in Kilinochchi. I said if you do not allow us to go to Jaffna, at least allow us to take Kilinochchi because our troops were in Elephant Pass and also even if one wanted to negotiate with the LTTE, having Kilinochchi would leave one in a better bargaining position. She said “I will let you know next week,”, and came back and said ‘sorry’.

…The biggest drawback for the LTTE was the Deep Penetration Patrol (DPP) Units, which they called Long Range Reconnaissance Patrols, which is a misnomer because reconnaissance personnel do not fight. These guys secretly went behind enemy lines and knocked off a lot of the LTTE leaders. So much so that they were so scared to come out, they said ‘We are not going to come out.’ Then the Ceasefire Agreement (CFA) signed by Wickremesinghe came in 2002. Wickremesinghe never referred the matter to the Army or didn’t let us know. Even Kumaratunga did not know. We were kept in the dark about the CFA. In the CFA, one of the clauses was that we had to stop all these DPPs…

…The people who are propagating this theory of war crimes, like the Western powers such as the United States of America (USA), are the ones involved in the most number of war crimes.” (Interview by Ruwan Laknath Jayakody, Ceylon Today, Dec 6th 2017)

Anyone who ends or shortens a long rampage by a monster, is by universal norms and any tradition of literature, a hero. We still have evil men and women among us, men and women who didn’t stop the suffering when it was in their power to do so. And among us we still have men who did. We still have heroes. How do we treat them? Who do we choose to reward?

Let me leave the reader with an example. SWRD Bandaranaike’s Finance Minister was the monocled ‘toff’, Stanley de Zoysa, whose daughter Roma, an unforgettable and irrepressible personality, was at age 20, his secretary. Richard de Zoysa and Prof Kumari Jayawardena are her cousins. In 1956 Auntie Roma, just out of her teens married one of SWRD’s Cabinet Ministers, Benny Jinadasa. She still has the handwritten copies of the founding documents of the SLFP, of which her father was one of the founders, together with “Uncle Solomon”.

Living, appropriately enough in LA for over 30 years now, she celebrated her 80th birthday at the 80 Club in Colombo, and in her birthday speech she was gracious enough to name my father Mervyn, second only to her own, as the two people who have had the most important influence in her life. I knew they’d been very close friends on and off for a quarter century, before they weren’t. The California fires have made it impossible for Auntie Roma to make her usual call to me, but I know at least one note she’ll strike because she always does. And she’s given me written permission to quote her.

She vividly recalls the Rajapaksas, including young Mahinda, from 1956. And she knew Gota from the Sri Lanka Foundation (of which she was founder-president) in California. Auntie Roma gets pretty testy, pretty quick, when any Colombo socialite even begins to sound stroppy about the Rajapaksas. “I’ll always owe Mahinda, and all of us will always owe Mahinda. It is because of him that my two granddaughters can roam around this town and this country without being blown up, and I can be free of the fear I lived in for twenty five years, of them being blown up by an LTTE bomb.” Her constant telephonic query to me from LA is: “what are these people trying to do to Gota?” Auntie Roma just hates Donald Trump and was pro-Hillary Clinton, so her stand on Gotabaya is most interesting.

Having conquered several challenges to her health her constant recent refrain has been: “my one wish is to see Gota become President before I die. I’ll come back and campaign for him, but in the meantime, what can we do for him over here? We need to organize.”

Perhaps it takes a cultured and classy person like Auntie Roma, to eschew social opportunism and selfishness, to remember a debt owed and be grateful, and be able to make the right ethical –not moralistic or fastidiously faddish—choice, for the right reasons.

In what kind of land do we remove the heroes and persecute them, while elevating to power irresponsible, unconscionable evil men and women? What kind of people do that? Look into the mirror. Then ask yourself “what kind of signal do I wish to give at this election, what example does that set, and what message does that send out about me?”

Dear Dayan, why are you twisting the truth. It is India which decides when to have war and when to stop it. In 1987 when Srilanka troops were marching forward in operation liberation having succeeded in clearing LTTE from Vadamarachi and wanted to extend southwards to capture Thenmarachchi and westwards to capture Valigamam, it was India which ordered Srilanka to stop it and Srilanka humbly obeyed it. In 2003 when LTTE was marching forwards after defeating Jayasikuru offensive in Palaly, it was india which ordered LTTE to stop and LTTE obeyed it. Also in 2008 it was India which gave the green light to Srilanka to finish off LTTE with logistical support to Srilankan forces. If India stood against it, LTTE would never have been defeated even now. So please stop praising MR/GR and the security forces for what happened and thank India without being ungrateful.

Absolutely. Due ot India’s and the American involvement only that VP buried all their Armoury and decamped their stronghold Kilinochchi to the beach front for VP to be whisked away. Unfortunately for VP once he decamped Kilinochchi the ships left leaving VP behind at the mercy of the Forces who massacred the lot when they came to surrender. This is the so called war for which the Rajapaksas are praised. If a head count of the dead forces in combat for the period Jan 2008 to May 2009 will reveal that not a single Forces personnel died as there was no fighting. It was only a propaganda war where both MR and VP hyped for public consumption. Now that RTI bill is Law a list of the dead soldiers if any could be verified with their names, rank and addresses for a cross check.

“You do not like PM. So your analysis is bias”

He is a public racist, who believes minority votes in elections do not count unless of course they were caste for Dr Mahinda Rajapaksa (LLD). He believes Northern Provincial Council should be run by remote control from Colombo.

He also believes anything above 13A would bring Tamil Nadu Tamils in millions to this island through proposed Hanuman Bridge, a logic many Sinhala/Buddhists fascists share with him.

When Hindians invade this island next time around I am not sure what his hiding strategy is going to be. Perhaps he might join LTTE/Tamil Diaspora outside this island.

Hey guys let s discuss about the diplomats that have been in spot light in srilanken context.

      1)Dayan Jayathilaka
      2) Udayanga Weerathunga

Both in lanken spot light even if they have been licking the balls of former thugs on an non-stop mode has been given publicity by SiRASA kshthijaya or the like programs.

Why does Sirasa do so ?

In the same time, sirasa has been repeating that they have been revealing everything about anything.

What SIRASA seems to be not exposing is about Rajapakshes and the high profile crime deals they have deliberatly made during the reign of uneducated rascals.

DJ is very like self proclaimed – I am the one and only like, but not many would repsect the man and his profile today, lknowing the man is smeared no second to Wimal weerawanse.
He DJ focuses on few things only, that is to calculated attacks being set on to PM ?

Why if not kindheit- childhood vendetta.

I have NOT seen anyone like DJ, whose deviousness and malacy can destroy entire srilanka if that would be droped down at once – more powerful than nagasaki bomb aftermath.

Dyan Jayathilake you have a good point!
What kind of human being would vote for the Rajapaksas who allowed his son to murder his fellow classmates, friend and ruggerite Wasim Thajudeen that had nothing to do with the war!?

It does say a lot about the whole Rajapaksas family, those who glory them and those who still chose to vote for them…

This country does not want criminals like that anymore…

    DJ,

The so-called operation in 2001 probably deserves mixed reactions. Don’t you think its much easier and efficient to tackle a terrorist group with the brain rather than a bullet. I believe that is what the CFA agreement infused into a ruthless organisation like ltte. The brain washed cadres were diverting themselves to fun activities and beleive it or not the ltte troops were starting relationships between themselves. The ltte leader was getting cornered in the international space and for the first time in history we had the backing of almost all western countries including the UN as a country. For the first time in our history a Sinhala Buddhist leader was becoming popular in the north who values democracy. He is none other than Ranil our current PM.
This is what made Prabhakaran prefer the war instead of the CFA, he choose Mahinda. Just choosing him would not have worked in 2005 as the people in the north and east found a leader who is a sinhala buddhist. How prabhakaran achieved this is by enforcing a boycott by threat. You can get more details from your friends Basil, Gota or Mahinda.

DJ: No one is accusing gotabaya Rajapakse’s contribution and dedication to the war. Even though Mahinda Rajapakse was a federalist until that, he, given the opportunity, supported the annihlation of LTTE. The question and peoples’ disappointment is their contribution to the country there after. They did some specific robberies, those things are hidden because even UNP politicians got payout from that and Ranil is not recovering those money. those monies are every where in the world.
There is a story too even though Ranil the gang was getting money from LTTE, (because they saved LTTE leader from annihilation), which came drug sales, probably in Sri lanka itself, money is stashed near but outside sri lanka but not in India too, some delay in that money led to the central bank heist.

Good DJ, please enlighten us how a man who had been away from lanken millitary searching for his own greener pastures can strenghthen the lanken army ? i am talking about Gotabaya s skills according to you to have made the job to the top ?
Many that would see it right will get it, it was the abusive media but proxy Rajapakshe painted the picture in favour of Rajapakshes.
That then polarised in lanken society. Most being gulliable, they would believe anything comeon the air.
That is how it became that Gotabaya was instrumental in elemination of terror. Nothing else. Nobody else.
I wonder how could you DJ have lived on the west for so many years but to behave no second to lanken grass eaters that would believe anything that have been telecasted by Rajapakshe propaganda machines.

Dayan Jayathilake end his family history by saying “in what kind of country hero’s are prosecuted” is very well said as his semi god Gotabaya did that to former Army Commander who directed the Army under various blockades forced by Mahinda Rajapaksa, was put behind bars. Dayan say Gota directed the Wedamarachchi attack as a Junior Officer responsible for managing singnals. LTTE was eliminated by the entire defence forces and with certain military hardware purchased during Chandrika time. What ever Gerry De Silva says the LTTE was anihilated with the firm determination and good organisational skills used by then Army Commander. Dayan’s aunty Roma De Zoysa had a very good reputation when she was working for her father.

          Sam Fernando

“Why DJ focuses on PM only ?”
Ranil is not that stupid to give him a diplomatic assignment.

“Why DJ does not see huge fund grabs made by former Rajapakshe ?”
Perhaps he doesn’t get it. He believes that is the price the country owes the clan for teaching a lesson the Tamils won’t forget.

“Why DJ does not see anything wrong about JO ?”
His pre-election support depends on post election job. One cannot afford to rock the boat.

“Why DJ behaves as if he is born yestreday ?”
Public racists/bigots are stupid anyway. My worry is that he might end up as another Mahanama.

“What kind of Education DJ obtained to be repeated his as DR DJ ?”
Please don’t confuse education with wisdom. In Sri Lanka you very rarely meet a wise person except my Elders.

“My dog is more intelligent than DJ, he notices who would be harmful to our house hold …”
Also dog does not lose scent for miles. In public racist Dayan’s case he cannot hold a discussion/point more than a few seconds. He exposes his dishonesty, hatred for others, hypocrisy, ……

My worry is the future generation is going to question our state of mind for letting this racist get off scot-free practically with murders.

Ich hoffe es geht Dir gut. Also, erkläre mir bitte Unterschiede zwischen Wimal Buruwanse und DJ.

I dont see any diffrence in their behaviour.

Weerawanse is more or less like ass kisser of Rajapakshe for his own survivial.
There were ahikuntika treibe in the country in 70ties, they had been doing anything and everything to earn their living. Likewise, Wimal Buruwanse has been droping his FILTHY loads on the stages, that go viral to grass eating folks.
So have they abused Wimal weerawasnse for UPFA propaganda machines.
Rhetorics went viral, no contents were focused.
Just for a hopper or thalaguliya people got together … most of them are so gulliable and would not sense it in wider manner.
That is how LANKEN politics works.
Just for arrack bottle or a bun or rice packet, they are ready to even strip off.. The kind kalakanniyas brought Rajapakshes to power.
As any other leader could earn, his first term with the collectivity of various forces eleminated terror. But that should not be th elicence them to rape out th enation .. loot th enation…

Anyone who ends or shortens a long rampage by a monster, is by universal norms and any tradition of literature, a hero.

Tamils will never forget, if not for ever, but from 1983 to until now, the annual celebration by the “Sinhala Buddhist” as Pogrom, is stopped by a real Hero named Pirapaharan.
Hero is man who risks his life when he was not required by any obligation. Leader Pirapaharan was not offered commission by arms making country or had to fight because he had to get his pay to feed his family.

Let me write a news piece I read in 1983, black. We all gathered in a place in New Chetty Street. A man from Karainagar owned it. There were many traders with in our group. A guy about 75 years was with us. We restricted us wandering outside. He would brave out in the morning have his tea, and bring two there Tamil newspapers. One morning when he came back, he was having only Virakesari in one, and he loosened his “Naalu Mulam”(The small, one round Dhoti) with other hand, shook it a little bit up and down, said “little more than about 60 years ago, When I was 12 years old, I came to Kadawatha to work in my neighbor’s shop only this loin with me.” He paused for two-three seconds to continue. Some of the others did know him, but we others outside of Karainagar had no idea of who he was.

  • 2
    2

“Now my all children are In UK. I was managing that (The one his son had at Kadawatha) shop for the youngest son. Everything is gone. No shops or families left in Kadawatha. I do not know which way my boys (employees) ran and if they are still alive. I came to this world with nothing. I would have happily gone in with that burning shop if that His wish. But I did not sleep there that night. My son does not need that shop for living. My only worry now is that I am not able to talk to my boys, who slept in that shop.” Then he put the paper down on the floor with a specific page open. Then he folded his Naalu Mulam like a Chandia and shook it. He continued “Now I am going back to Karainagar only with this loin cloth. I had a wonderful 60 years of life. I am wondering if my boys who slept in that is that shop would be lucky enough to have an opportunity like that.” Almost for week we having a grueling life and was shaken badly by that experience. That old bump remained as rock until that morning; even after watching passing the middle of the night his own shop was burning and not knowing where the people in that were. But that time we show two three tear drops in his eyes. He wiped them and walk silently to his corner. We realized that something has melted that rock; something that he could not expressively talk was bothering him. One guy picked the newspaper with suspicion and started to read loud. In the middle he switched over to silent reading. We asked him “then what then what”? He put down paper and went his way.

. My chance to get that single Newspaper, where we about 32 had been crumpling to control, came. The heading of the news was (in Tamil) “If Buddha is there, I pray him never a case like this should come again to my court”. It was a line, a Buddhist judge had added to his sentence to the case he had in the court.

Until that Black July, North-East Tamils life was very strong. Many things had happened them by the so called Annual celebrations “Pogroms; they never relented. They led very competitive life. Black July 1983 delivered the final assault and it brought the break in the Sinhala leadership was waiting for log time from Tamil. The Tamils, those who controlled the 75% of the employments, those who controlled most of the Sothern trades, were watching in vain their hard earned properties as well as their dreams of future prosperity were burning the in Back July’s thick smoke fire. But that was not the case of the Up Country Tamil. From the day in the arrival of them to the Island Ceylon, it was only a hell on the earth. The case that Buddhist, Sinhala, Judge attended was about a 7 years old Estate girl charged with Murder of her 4 year brother by consciously poisoning him. Background: For about four days the brother and the sister were alone home. Two years before the Black July, mother died by sickness. When the black July started, father worked at some Estate, did not return home. He was murdered on the way back home in the pogrom. The Brother was crying by hunger. The poor-pity 7 years did not know where to look for her father or what the circumstances outside. She went out the home, plugged some laves managed to boil it and fed her brother.

  • 3
    2

Letter, she was watching helplessly for some time, her brother struggled much heavily on the floor. Sooner or later he became unresponsive. Now she wandered little further, asked her neighbors to help her to wake her brother up because she could not find her father. Neighbors checked out the situation & informed the matter to police. Police promptly filed the murder case as per Ceylon’s law existed that time. Interestingly the police never attempted find the father or brought any case against anybody during entire Black July. But it had dutyfully taken the 7 years old murdering the 4 year to the court. That was where the Buddhist Judge cried while giving out the verdict.
One time Tamils were starting to think that those annual events never can be beaten back and fearing those would soon be wiping out the Tamil from Ceylon. Everybody was worried that SJV’s words “Only God can Save Tamil” going become a prophecy. But when Pirapha set his foot on the field the story changed. The difference between human being, (caste, wealth, religion… any other kind of division) was vanishing in his rule. Up Country Tamils were willing to go to North-East and settle there, instead the hell in the South. A true Hero never fought from the arm chair or for the commission and bribes in Yuan. Neither a person who sing only family fame is an analyst or writer, but only blind while eyes are open If whom-ever all Thero names are Heroes, certainly Pirapaharan is not a Hero; he was an angel lived on the earth; David’s reincarnation.

As a Sinhalese I am infinitely ashamed of 1983 and the Jaffna library. What pains me most is over and above the massacre of innocent Tamils is the fact that not a single criminal was brought before the law. In both incidents UNP thugs were directly involved. For this reason alone I never vote for UNP. Mallaiyuran, can you take a minute of your time to enlighten us as to why Tamils always vote for the UNP – an enigma I could never resolve for myself. Further when you justify Prabakaran you justify 1983. I killed his guest because he killed my guest is the kind of logic you are promoting.

If you were a Sinhalese or Buddhist or both you would have vehemently protested against all crimes which were committed either by the the state or ruling party including all the other riots, 1971, 1987-1990, …. and the war crimes and crime against humanity continuously committed by the state over 40 years.

“In both incidents UNP thugs were directly involved.”

I take it you were happy to vote for the weeping widow’s party even though under her it committed war crimes against the innocent Sinhalese youth. You were also happy to vote for a war criminal who bribed VP to prevent people under his captivity voting for UNP.

Dear Soma, please do not shed crocodile tears. If you are really interested in the welfare of Tamils, advocate sharing of power and territory in a fair manner. It is not only UNP who are guilty of loss of lives and property of Tamils. The first major riots took place in 1958 when SLFP was in power and SWRD refused to take action to stop it and protect Tamils. Read Emergency 58 written by Tarzie Vittachchi a superb and honourable, which book was promptly banned by the government at that time. Has any Sinhala journalist written about riots of 1977 or 1983. Not only in 1983, but in every crime that was committed against Tamils, no Sinhalese has ever been brought to justice. Had there been no violence and racial discrimination, no Tamil would have taken up arms against the government. If you see the police records, prior to this violent times, hardly any crime was committed in Jaffna.

Isn’t this too much and beyond anyone’s wildest imaginations?

          Dr. Gnana,

1958 riots were started by Tamils. This is the same story for the 1977 and 1983 pogroms. Don’t try to play innocent now. It was the Tamils that disgraced the Nagadeepa Temple. SWRD was the one who carefully handled the situation with OG and prevented further bloodshed. Do you think any Tamil temple would have survived if Sinhalese heard what Tamils did for Nagadeepa?

There cannot be violence and racial discrimination for Tamils except they get what they want. So I don’t expect the Tamils to stop whining.

The true daughter of the Mother continues to actively write her “Daily Mahavamsa”. It is not just Mahavamsa, But with a “T” prefix exchanged, Tuwamsa.

“With not the brave heroes of the Wildlife Sanctuary, SinhaLE , Lankawe hearing it, May you can, hush it into my ears that what Tamils did to Nagadipa”. For you knowledge, Nagadipa is a place, Tamils have been revering for millenniums, even before Seezhthalai Chathannar Sang Manimekhala”, a 500 year before your Guru Mahanama wrote Mahavamsa. The Meenatchi (Nagabhushani) Amman in that Isle is reining that region with her justice for all for millenniums. The fishermen folks who drift on that area’s whirling currents and the traders who pass on that sea lanes have been offering her with their precedes and obligate her to protect them from the fury of the nature. There is a Local Bermuda Triangle sitting for the Local folks, do you know that? That is why Nagabhushani settled there to save her children. When did you hear about Nagadipa first time? When did you tell your rowdies to raid Tamils on the revenge for it?

Solomon Dias’s story is the story of the Sir Ralph, who cut the bell on the Inchcape Rock. Sir Solomon Dias Ridgeway, after put together the Pirate army, Panchapadi Bala Vegaya said “The next Tamil who comes to the Colombo, Won’t bless the Abbot of Aberbrothok”. He, but, blessed “O Mother! Here we go; thy thick green lush hair catch the fire Human set up for this blessed Land. Thy luxurious jewels and garment be ash-ed in the Greed that is burning in me. By Buddha’s name thee be burned so I can command and rule this land walking over thy ashes”.

That is how, poor Solomon, in the effort of saving Tamils, killed himself.

The best was not the 1958, neither 1983. The best of Solomon Dias’s dream will come true when Indian and Chinese Agini Astras are exchanged on the Buddha land. That time, even every worm that crawled on this earth until then would call Ehelepola’s name and bless, “Sir, time for us to close our party on this earth and leave to His land. But, May thy soul rest at the almighty’s feet for ever, May thy fame last on this isle, the earth, forever for having extended our enjoyment until today, by Bringing in British. Unless that might rulers had delayed this for another 200 year, the Sinhala Jury Justice would have delivered its judgement on us 200 years ago. “

I wonder to whom Shenal writes these? Certainly, even the Modaya crowd stands well above this plane, where Shenal is wandering these days. She can’t be the disciple of the 8th grader Political Gurus. Their Sinhala Intellectualism (Or the moronic mind) perceive much above this.

Dayan has hit rock bottom. He says an aunty of his mentioned his Dada at her eightieth party. The said aunty likes Gota. Therefore Dayan wants Gota as the next President!
Dayan quotes a former Sandhurst Academy Instructor Paul Moorcraft’s book published by an unknown outfit Sword and Military. Paul does know why the civil war eventuated. Dayan does not know either although at one stage he was in a Tamil liberation movement.
Dayan’s pantham is down to the size of an ear cleaner!

DJ for obvious (and selfish) reasons suffers from selective dementia…

“in what kind of land do we remove the heroes”………
In Sri Lanka under your beloved heroes GOTA and MR SF was dragged from his office like an animal and imprisoned on trumped up charges. Rtrd Army commander Janaka Perera was not provided with any kind of security despite repeated warnings from intelligence that he was on LTTE’s hit list….all this because he contested from the UNP ticket at the north central provincial elections. Its a pity our (so called) reputed political scientist does not recollect these injustices …He also has the knack to make friends easily with anybody and everybody that embraces the rajapakses (and detest RW) and reference them as credible sources. Aunty Roma and JRJ’s grandson are the latest additions.
When DJ writes Aunty Roma was appointed as her fathers secretory at the tender age of 20 to the finance ministry, now does this not sound exactly like MR and his practice of nepotism??
What DJ fails to understand is that Rajapakses were rejected not because they ended the war but despite ending the war…

MR, Gota and Gen. Sarath Fernando together were responsible for the defeat of the LTTE. Neither of them could have accomplished it without the help of the other two.

India, the USA, China etc all helped. As said elsewhere, if MR did not win this war for Sri Lanka, then Churchill did not win WW2 for Britain either. Both had a huge amount of foreign help, Churchill far more than MR.

Whether you like it or not it was Hindia which with huge contribution from VP won the war for Dr Mahinda Rajapaksa (LLD). Dr Rajapaksas told NDTV on the record without Hindia’s support they would never have won the war. Without VP’s total commitment India would never have won the war for Mahinda (LLD).

      somass
whether you agree or not with whoever tells you truth/fibs the fact remain VP won the war for Hindians and Dr Rajapaksas.

Native, and whether you like it or not, the USA supplied Britain with ships, tanks, planes, ammunition, food and hundreds of thousands of young men to defeat Hitler. Far greater than anything India’s ‘huge contribution’ did for the Rajapakses. Without the USA and the Empire, Britain would have been overrun by the Nazis. And yet Churchill is hailed as a great war leader. You just cannot stand admitting that the Rajapakses actually did something good for the country.

“You just cannot stand admitting that the Rajapakses actually did something good for the country.”

          Something good for the country?
          Being public racists?
Such as looting treasury and people?
A fascist state controlled by the brothers?
Hundreds of thousands of innocent civilians are not being accounted?
Families of Journalists were in limbo, anxious, in permanent fear?

          What are you talking about.
There is nothing to comment on your analogy of Britain to Sri Lanka, USA to Hindia, Hitler to VP therefore let me ignore it.

The analogy stands. The crimes that you quote are irrelevant to the argument. MR did one good thing for the country – against all the odds and ignoring all international pressure he rid the country of terrorists. His subsequent actions do not detract from this singular achievement.

Churchill too was a curates egg (partly bad). He supported the gassing of African tribesmen, he boasted of having personally shot three ‘savages’ in Afghanistan, he oversaw the starvation of Bengal; but he was still a great leader during WW2.

How about General Sarath Fonseka who said that he will not leave the war to another general. He did not go to GR for tuition before he said this and he kept his word. If GR is so brave why did he leave the Army amidst an ongoing war and became an alien in USA. He is a covered. Now he is trying to hide behind the law without facing for robbing poor mans money to build a monument to his father where poor people of Hambantota find it hard to find money to bury their dead. How about going for a revision in the case of helping Hambantota case where MR attempted to use tsunami funds to feed his children.

Election date is fixed. What options people have? I suggested Wimal to contest under “Panchayudha”. Anyways, can’t keep quiet. Let’s see what options JO has.
As suggested in 2015, JO should’ve considered in fielding independent contestants. My first instinct was correct. Hotu Polottuwa was for Basil for his future politics. Later, under various reasons, obviously made to mislead the real purpose, I also thought differently. Basil’s real motive was revealed with nomination lists and the chaos and division Hotu Pohottuwa created in the JO.
MR’s biggest mistake AGAIN was handing over the election campaign to Basil.
JO could have formed an alliance – Alliance of the Joint Opposition or Joint Opposition Alliance. Very easy. They are already an Alliance. If they wanted a symbol, they could have considered “Satakaya” (I am not joking), because people can easily recognize it. Then out of 8000 (I don’t agree with this number which is a huge burden), they could have offered 1000 places to other parties such as NFF, MEA, Vasu’s, Gammanpila’s and other. As the SLFP has the biggest chunk, they should have been flexible and accepted the choices of other parties without question. As SLFPers are not allowed to contest separately, they could have formed an Independent Group and contest under JOA. They can still do that. The main factor is MR’s direct involvement in this.
Basil divided the JO. The issue of JO joining SLFP is purely to create dissension. JO wasted valuable time for nothing. Before Basil took over JO, there was a huge public uproar against the government. People took to streets on their own and held hartal. When Basil started artificial protests through trade unions, obviously the way Ranil wanted, the genuine public protests lost its place.
I’m not with JO. But I wish them to bounce back.

President should take action to reduce the number of LG members to half, the previous number. Didn’t I see something to that effect somewhere?
50/50 is a sure way for UNP to rig 50% of votes of which they excel. Who decided this 50/50 – I mean which is which? I am sure Ranil.
If UNP wins it is disastrous to Executive Presidency and to the country as a whole.
UNP can never win a single LG body other than by rigging votes. They are despicable to people.
President should intervene to hold a free and fair election without putting unbearable burden on the masses.
A revision of the number of LG Members IS A MUST. Election will have to be postponed. But it doesn’t matter. If President doesn’t take the necessary action at this junction, the country will be in peril. The political extinction of Sinhalese in the future will be imminent if this election is held under the new Delimitation Report.

CHAMPA: I herd Basil Rajapakse saying he has very rich investor who is willing to buy the whole Gampaha district and develop it. further to that Basil Rajapakse’s friend is saying he would fill the every inch of Gampaha district with Sand from Walawe and Gin Gaga. I think that is a good proposal.

Nope, Jims, I know nothing about such a proposal and I’m not bothered about Basil at all.
I want President to re-evaluate the Boundary Delimitation Report. He has to do something about it at this crucial juncture to make things right before heading for the election. Ranil is famous for dirty tricks.

As a KAKKA eater of Wimal, Chamapawathie should be well aware of the fact that Wimal hasbeen made a fool by UPFA over the years. Like Police make use of POLICE dogs in searching Kadavas, Rajapakshe murderers abused the mouth piece of Wimal since the bugger boy would do anything and everything out of his mouth, if he would have been pleased by perks.
Needless to say, the bugger at the time joined politics had no even a push cycle, had been running a shop in Thunmulle junction, but his abusive filthy loads poliarised like music hits as heard in Europe, the reason has been the people -mediocre has been been focusing on their day today life and anything to enjoy only.
This then later become those people to became the voters for UPFA.
It was all because WIMAL and his mouth.. that knows nothing anythign drops down his lips are just verable defarmatory attacks.
But shamless is also thinkable am man no second to a street monger or fish monger cant see it beyond. The fact that he has been improved to some extent being amidst some good educated ones, today he too have been focusing and studying all the bits bit closely.
Else, his grade 8 year knowledge cant bring any kind of arguments based on world politics.
This is the reason if anything being discussed with the west, this bitches son thinks it is europena invasion, … infeerior complete is implanted in his blood

I will repeat my comments after the elections. Remember this.
    UNP comes First
MR’s group of corrupt arseholes Second but by a large gap because of the split vote
TNA and other minority parties and JVP a third
    Sirisena’s SLFP last.
UNP will take control of more councils than ever before historically.

      This is our wish too,

since we dont want highly corrupted men appointed by SLFP or UPFA to win.

I am no means party sympathiser, but in today context, I love young men appointed by UNP have more energies to do what they think is right. Most of them are very right by their behavours. What matters is not the party men, good natured men to take ground in grass roots. and leave us the public in piece. Ballige putha Rajapakshe and their men should not come forward to lead us to hell again.

[Edited out] If I may ask you DJ, in what kind of country other than in our banana republic would a “hero” like MR become an PM or president? MR is a ‘Tsunami horra’, mass murderer, LTTE colluder and master thief. Although I have no proof to back the allegations, it is MR who masterminded the assassination of then FM Kadirgamar. What hypocrite would have colluded with the LTTE to meddle with a presidential election? The LTTE could have been wiped out many years ago had world opinion changed to the level in the aftermath of 9-11. Also when did India have a resolute leader like Manmohan Singh (MS) that also held that the only option to destroy the LTTE was a military solution. The one leader who convinced MS and brought to him to his senses was the Lion of Singapore, Mr. Lee Kwan Yew. He warned MS and every leader in our region that if the LTTE is not finished militarily, then the outcome of not acting and the blame must fall on India. LKY supported his stance by asking the world leaders I remember at the UN to name one terror outfit in the world that possessed a navy, air force or kamikaze’s that was as brutal as the LTTE. MR was just lucky and I admire his political will that he had GR and so many other unsung heroes to get the job done.

Dear Simba, what you have stated is absolutely true. Problem is at that time people like late Kadir and MR told the world that LTTE is intransigent and if eliminated, Tamil problem will be settled in a fair manner. They believed this and gave assistance to Srilanka to get rid of LTTE. Subsequent to that MR and others have gone back on their word and are dragging the settlement citing various excuses. This is the reason why Srilanka is getting hammered in various international forums.

Stupid people like DJ would always sing the song in favour of his god father.Since he knows very well neither RW or MY3 would ever appoint the bugger to any authority under current govt. But there, he just underestimates further harm being done by Rajpaakshe men for over 10years to this country.
Be them earth slips, soil diggings, money diggings or any other grabs had been promoted by Rajapkshe men, not having proper lknowledge but about their pocket filling sefish mentality.
Today, that uneducated jaliya, a colleague of DJ sits dumb not being able to respond the questions raised by FCID for what purpose over lacks of dollars being abused by his tenure as a tea taster cum so called ambassador ?

The war was over more than 8 years ago. The LTTE is a long dead, but this punk DJ is still raking up the LTTE past.

What people should know is that DJ has spoken admiringly of Hezbollah and its leader Hassan Nasrallah. But Politico.com carried an in-depth article yesterday on the prolonged US investigation into Hezbollah’s criminal enterprises, including drug trafficking, arms trafficking, money laundering and murders, on a scale much larger than what the LTTE ever did, even though Hezbollah has always had the sponsorship of Iran. Hezbollah and the Rajapaskas were as much as–or even worse– monsters as the LTTE was, but racists among the Sinhalese always selectively speak about atrocities by others, when their own atrocities are all too clear for everyone to see. Whoever this “auntie Roma” from LA is, she is equally blind to the atrocities of the Rajapaksas as well the previous regimes.

LTTE died only 8-yrs ago, so what is wrong with raking it back again and again. THose who were backing the worlds most evil terrorist group must be reminded that they cannot win, and if LTTE comes back again or revived by those that bent on splitting the country will end up the same way VP was destroyed. Take a leaf from UK and France: Naziz were killed off almost 70- years ago, and certainly UK leading, the wartime allies have ensured year after year that the public will remember the evil Nazis and who liquidated them.

“THose who were backing the worlds most evil terrorist group must be reminded that they cannot win, and if LTTE comes back again or revived by those that bent on splitting the country will end up the same way VP was destroyed.”

Could you let us have your comparative study on “most evil terrorist group” so that we can judge for ourselves whether LTTE’s baby brigade was the most evil terrorist group.

On the boringly repeated topic of splitting the island its not in the hands of Tamils, Tamil Diaspora, Tamil Nadu Tamils, …… nor in the hands of Sinhala/Buddhist state.

The fear of dividing the island and paranoia are good for business, particularly the one related to Defense including all supplies.

Keep up fear. Good for the Military Industrial Complex.
Those analysts, the fear mongers are very well looked after by defense suppliers, the merchants of death. Well one has to question oneself whether it is morally right to live off people’s manufactured fear and paranoia specially it involves lot of kick back for the politicians, agents, analysts, armed forces,….

    I am sure you will.
