The Mad Monk’s Birthday Party: Look Who His Patrons Are

Deshamanya R Duminda Silva, suspected murderer of Bharatha Lakshman Premachandra, UNP General Secretary Tissa Attanayake, UNP MP Wijeyadasa Rajapakshe and EAP Edirisinghe Chairperson Soma Edirisinghe featured prominently among the patrons of the eccentric monk Pitiduwe Siridhamma of the Bellantara temple in Delhiwala in whose honour a lavish birthday party was thrown recently.

The pictures show the monk clad in saffron yellow raw silk robes, being felicitated and presented with gifts or walking on a temple flower clad path in his honour. The decor and food arrangements are extravagant.

It is hight time to bring reforms to code of conduct of a buddhist monk.

All those who violate the laws should be punished or forced to derobe and leave sasanaya.

This is exactly what Sharmini Serasinghe calls Sinhala Buddhism. Why don’t we start celebrating Buddha’s Birthday also like this.

Only the stupid and ignorant people talk about Sinhala Buddhism. There is no such thing as ‘Sinhala Buddhism.’

Sinhala Buddhists follow Therawada Buddhism and the traditions of Maha Vihara monks. This they have been doing since Arahat Mahinda. Since last century, Sinhala Buddhists are inspired by the life and the work Anagarika Dharmapala and Ven Soma.

This monk Pitiduwe appears to be developing his own sect with new values. Then again, there had been such cases even during Buddha’s time. For one thing it is good that ITN has made him out of bound to its popular programs like Doramadalawa.

I say, this lot, I mean SomaE, Wijedasa, Attanayake, Duminda and et al are WOGs and more particularly Alcott Buddhists. Mervin is another long standing follower of Pitiduwe who says he has reached the advance mind state of Nivana. These people have more than enough money to pay Pitiduwe and induce him to flux them into his Nivana state. And this winning and dinning in western style must be a part of that fixing. Sharmini, who is of the Christian Buddhist variety needs a cross to get to her Nivana.

I say let them follow their values and we shall follow ours. I am glad Pitiduwe couldn’t hoodwink Gota.

Its no secret that Muhammadans proselytize by coercion, and Christians by bribery these days. If anyone changes his religion by his own free will, no one in Sri Lanka will be against it. Coercion, force and bribery are offences in any country. So, Sinhala Buddhists will not accept such tactics as a way to propagate of religion.

Ha ha….Gota? He is a frequent visitor there. Why shouldn’t he be there, when he is with BBS and SR also? The whole lot, Basil, WJM, RW, Karu J, have been visiting previous shows by the loony monk.

Then where would they go after death?

      1. Eternal Heaven

      2. Eternal Hell

      3. Eternal Purgatory

      4. Eternal Limbo

      5. Eternal Rebirth

      5. Eternal Nirvana or Nibbana.

That is the Exit Strategy for the next life.

What about what they need to do for the rest of their lives, in this life?

      Just curious.

In general, making amendments have been only in favour of the Rajapakse rule.

EU perse makes such amendments after constructive discourses almost every month.

There are very many areas where appropriate amendments to the prevailing law could lead to the solving each of the those issues, but rulers to stay mum on that regards is simply pathetic.

But very same people´s representatives seem to just continue with criticising… but nothing seem to be happening. May be unvisible powers within Rajapakse handling may not allow many to function within the coalition though they are seen as UPFA allies. Latter should be the ground reality

Buddha-intoxication of lay people let those monks to abuse them.

This has nothing to do with buddhism. Where in buddhism they you find the parties of this kind ? This is against the buddhist tradition ? If this particular monk intends to live his fantasies up in this way, he should leave the country and do so. All good buddhists should respect only good kind buddha´s preachings.

Perhaps, this is part of the 2500 years Budddhist Culture what the Monks like him are propagating for the people to follow and accuse that Muslims, Christians and others are attempting to destroy. Falsely accusing the others such Monks and their patrons are themselves causing severe damage to Buddhism.

Are we sure this is not a reunion for the ex UNP stalwart and pin up boy Kudu Duminda with his old mate the current UNP heavy, the RHM of the leader Ranil and his Christian Faction?.

Look at the colour of the paper napkins?

75 % of the inhabitant population who happen to be Sinhala Buddhists have nothing to do with Bellantara, Bellanvila and even the Colombo 7 dig of Podi Harmuduwo.

Because these Monks wouldn’t come to receive Alms or give last rights to even the new pin up boy of the Elite and the Intelligentsia, Wanathamulla Sunil.

And even if they make an exception to please the UNP , would Sunil have Forks and Spoons at home?.

What is important for the great majority of the population is to ensure the current Govt is given more strength, by chasing away the UNP and their buddies from the South and the West at the coming elections..

And publication of these events certainly help the inhabitants to recognize the friend from foe.

With Ms Pillai, Cameron, Harper, and the Lady Ambassador going full bore to find an excuse to create havoc and force UN intervention, the President need all peace loving people around him to continue, the current development at least for another one more term.

Nobody seems to have understood the fundamental principle of Buddhism at play here. Anything is okay as long as you do it with a sense of detachment. In fact only the most enlightened ones like Pitiduwe Siridhamma are capable of pulling it off. He wears silk, walks on flowers, sits on a throne, eats rich food and exudes more virility than the worldly Duminda and Tissa to the awestruck women around him – all the while without an iota of ego consciousness. People, don’t you get it. He is practicing mindlessness.

Pitiduwe Siridhamma is all about mindless pleasure.

Looks like cultism is beginning to manifest in Buddhism in Sri Lanka. This is bad news. Predators don’t always arrive on the scene intentionally. Sometimes predators are created by those who are desperate for other humans to fill the void in their lives. Crooked individuals with Charisma exploit this human weakness. CT should expose such charlatans among Christians, Hindus and Muslims as well.

A few months ago, the school teacher of my daughter (14 years old) gave her an assignment to write an essay about buddha. She came while I was very busy and asked me to give her some points about buddha. Unable to share a little time to assist her, I told her to go and look the deeds of budhist monks like the BBS monks. I also gave her a hint. I told “Refer to some newspapers they are filled with the buddhist monks deeds for the monks claim they do what buddha did.

The most ridiculous photo in this lot is, how this monk is seated on a chair like a throne!!! Honestly, does he think he is lord budhdha ???

He would get a bigger blessing, if he (as a monk) donated half of the cost to the poor!!!

I live in Australia and our Sri Lankan monks here are so very genuine and they don’t even allow us to bring “Seeni Sambol” with Maldive Fish in it….While I can see in these Birthday photos, how the monks in Sri Lanka are eating Chicken!!!

The Buddha Shaasanya has gone to the dogs in Sri Lanka, just like the Politics….I am glad, that I don’t live in Sri Lanka anymore to be a part of this crap!!!

forgive my confusion.. buuuut isn’t the whole idea behind buddhism to live in the simplest.. most calm and peaceful manner? :O
didnt the prince leave his kingdom and his every worldly desires and even his wife and newborn child to become a monk and spread the word of peace??
…eeeerr.. here’s where my confusion begins.. first of all the fundamentals of Buddhism is u cant create any harm to any being..immaterial of who they are and where they come from..human or animal?? :O
dont these people in this pic violate that?.. hey im not judging but totally confused…
plus i can see poor little chickens being strip to the bone literally on their plates.. :O
celebrating birthday is fine but to this degree?.. when the whole concept is to give up luxury to attain priesthood –> thanha jayathey sokho!!… when all that could have fed so many starving families in sri lanka.. and it could help street kids get an education or food for that matter..
And to my knowledge of buddhism.. isn’t it a philosophy that everyone can live by? and Sinhala i feel is a language and a culture that belongs to all sri lankans.. thats a part of our identity.. (eerr sorry but haven’t come across any sri lankans whether sinhala, christian, muslim or hindhus identifying themselves and Latin or French Sri Lankans.. :@)

i know my comment might sound silly.. but i really find what these people in orange robes in these societies called BBS and calling themselves monks being ridiculous! To deserve the title of a monk it is not merely wearing a robe and shaving their heads and pretending like one.. becz being a monk is a respected one that carries the light in him to spread peace, kindness and everything good.. and most of all live by its teachings…

what these people are doing is hiding behind the veil of religion and spreading violence to fulfil their own agenda.. no different to the al-qaida.. im surprised that in this day and time there are actually people who support these kind of things.. i guess ignorance and greed is the root of all evil.. as i mentioned before.. thanha jayathey sokho…

That is according to Buddha’s teaching however what the saffron clad thugs and rest of the country practice is Sinhala/Buddhism, Sri Lankan style.

What you see is what you get, not what Buddha thought and taught his disciples.

Buddhism has been reinvented by these uneducated yobs masquerading as monks who are capitalising on their robes to fulfill their personal agenda with the blessings of the current regime. I wonder if the supporters of this monk who have lavishly contributed to the b’day party have done so with a meritorious mind ? Somehow I don’t think so because they seem like a bunch of hypocrites, considering the fact that some of the disciples are drug peddlers & murders and family that made money from the misery of poor people who had to pawn their belonging at high interest rates. It is sad that a noble religion has been exploited so blatantly. What a refreshing difference it is to see how the Dalai Lama & foreign monks (such as those who live at Amarawathie Monastery in UK)conduct themselves. They are the true guardians of Buddhism. The few honest & true Buddhist monks remaining in Sri Lanka should form a council & lay down rules of conduct so that these self centered monks could be banished before real Buddhism is lost in Sri Lanka.

Since many people have commented on the ridiculousness of it all (including a comment on the raw silk robe he is wearing which kinda reminds you of a modern day bride’s maid….)- here’s a further opinion.
We all know that these politicians are another name for duplicity and that they are all united in the business of fooling the nation and that they are best buddies behind the scenes as evident by these photos as well.
My concern is about the low low low IQs of the Upaasikawas who really are the driving force behind this farce on a day to day basis. I think majority of the women in certain categories such as low income, menopausal, middle aged, un-happily married, elderly un-married Sri Lankan women have an intense un expressed sexual frustration. They channel this to monks which is a safe outlet. They feed, adore, gratify monks (which is socially accepted as its “pin”or meritorious to do so) the sexual energy that they cannot otherwise vent. This is why from time to time there are waves of “popular monks”that the women go crazy about. Its the same craze teenagers have for pop stars. I can;t think of any other force than blinding sexual frustration that can make even an idiot oblivious to this kind of obvious madness. Surely……… surely???

These politicians must have warped minds, if not they would not mix with a conman like pitadoowe ghanaya. Then again they are all the same ilk of rogues, so not unusual to be hanging around together scratching each others backs. Both parties are duping the citizens, then again the citizens are gullible and brain dead, as long as they have something to line their bellies, they are game for anything that these rogues play!

I’ve spoken to few Buddhists and their opinion is that making statues of Buddha, mini temples on the corners of each street BBS thuggery and such examples that we see above only will result in the demise of a great teaching of a great teacher.
Politicos can fool people with religion and when people wake up from their slumber these thugs will have no say.At least people should (& would) wake up to protect their religion. This will happen soon as I have great faith in our fellow citizens. This not only applies to Buddhism alone. This applies to any politician/clergy using religion. But I am sure Buddhist of Lanka will lead the way very soon.
I hope the media bosses should take a big step in educating them.

Level of education at Pirivanas should be improved. In the past, there were senior monks that behaved in accordance with displine in those institutions. Lack of such conducts have made today´s monks as no great difference with lay people. So what purpose these monks in robes are trying to hide behind the sanga constumes is the question that many would instantly raise today. I really dont think that these affordable fraction of monks may need to wait until their adherents to give alms to them.

What is the role of ministry of religious affairs if they cant amend those guidelines yet ? These monks and their behaviour almost cause people that then kept the faith on them to become criminals to this days. This has become a serious threat to lanken society today. Young generations seem to have no respect – may be they feel if monks behave like that why should they the young lay people respect anyone.

The Christian church also began with poverty and penance as characteristics of the early Christians.

The Buddha stated that a monk should have only three worldly possessions. They were (i) a saffron robe made from pieces of cloth thrown away, e.g., collected from a cemetery (ii) A spare robe (iii) a begging bowl.

A pair of slippers and a fan were perhaps included as parts of the robe, later on, as mentioned in the Vinaya Pitaka. Similar strictures were obeyed by Jain monks.

The christian church evolved into several branches, including the imperial church of the Holy Roman Empire where Popes were regal debauches having mistresses and harems. Even protestanism once agin evolved various forms of “High-Church” ritual and life styles. Ask Rauppu Joseph about all that, or even Duleeep Chikera who wanted to use wine from Killinochchi during ritual, at the time when Prabhakaran ruled in Kili- just a gesture of christian good will even to a killer !!!

Pitiduwe SirirDharma clearly only has just the three things that the Buddha said that a monk should have. All the rest has appeared by a miracle because of his great piety. The under world figures and crooked politicans are there only because MARA the evil one HAS SENT THEM, AND NOT BECAUSE THE MONK HAD ANYTHING TO DO WITH THEM.

I THINK KUMAR DAVID SHOULD RECRUIT pitiduwe instead of Maduluwave AS THE “ONE ISSUE CANDIDATE” THAT KUMAR DAVID TIRELESSLY SEEKS. KUMAR DAVID’S PREVIOUS CHOICE WAS GENERAL FONSEKA.The one issue is ultimately the much delayed revolution.

However, I find it offensive that plastic water bottles should be used, as they will invariably end up as waste and remain till the end of Samsaara since plastic is not bio-degradable – may be, even the first nobele truth of Buddhism is rapidly obeyed by plastic.

May be the monks can drink from their begging bowl. That would also be a miracle.
