The Mad Monk’s Birthday Party: Look Who His Patrons Are

Deshamanya R Duminda Silva, suspected murderer of Bharatha Lakshman Premachandra, UNP General Secretary Tissa Attanayake, UNP MP Wijeyadasa Rajapakshe and EAP Edirisinghe Chairperson Soma Edirisinghe featured prominently among the patrons of the eccentric monk Pitiduwe Siridhamma of the Bellantara temple in Delhiwala in whose honour a lavish birthday party was thrown recently.

The pictures show the monk clad in saffron yellow raw silk robes, being felicitated and presented with gifts or walking on a temple flower clad path in his honour. The decor and food arrangements are extravagant.

Great Sinhala Buddhism celebrates the victory over the war against Muslims.

This monk has no issue with Muslims, but against many women who claim that he is the father of their children. However, their cases were thrown out from Courts on grounds of insufficient evidence. In fact he claims he likes the negative publicity, since it comes ‘within his zone’ to propagate the dhamma and become more popular.

Why dint they check for DNA evidence and put the case to rest one way or other?

If the Courts decides that it does not warrant to go to the next level based on circumstantial evidence, then who is there to question?

Nobody seems to have understood the fundamental principle of Buddhism at play here. Anything is okay as long as you do it with a sense of detachment. In fact only the most enlightened ones like Pitiduwe Siridhamma are capable of carrying it out. He wears silk, walks on flowers, sits on a throne, eats rich food and exudes more virility than the worldly Duminda and Tissa to the awestruck women around him – all the while without an iota of ego consciousness. People, don’t you get it. He is practicing mindlessness.

Pitiduwe Siridhamma is all about mindless pleasure.

Looks like a new cult is emerging in our blessed land. Sometimes predators are created by those who are desperate for other humans to fill the void in their lives.

Monks are bored. They too need some fun.

          Why can’t they have fun?
          Does Buddhism prohibit Fun?

All it says is that Desire and Cravings bring you Sadness, Dhuka.

After all, what is the purpose of life? To live or to suffer?

Rebirth and other items, not yet proven, can wait.

There are thousands of Christian denominations.

Start a Buddhist Denomination, that allows monks to marry. Buddhist Innovations. Even some of the Popes married or had mistresses.

“After all, what is the purpose of life? To live or to suffer?”

amarasiri,Didn’t lord bhuddha say life is suffering? We are born to suffer,he said.Maybe the degree of suffering can vary fro one individual to another, but difficult to find any humans who don’t.

“After all, what is the purpose of life?”

good question, central to our existence.I have been mulling over it when i am relaxed and have time which is not very much, but one day when i get rid of all these material things i will be able to think about it more freely.Your question is very important because before we die lets at least find out the answer to why we lived.

man-what is the purpose of all this?

God-has everything got to have a purpose?

            man-Certainly.

god-Then i leave it to you to think of one for all this.

As for me,though i have not thought about this deeply yet, superficially from what i have seen i believe the purpose is determined for us,not the other way about where we can determine it.For example hitler comes to mind.An ordinary corporal became the architect of massive destruction and more than 50 million in lives lost.Several times he escaped assasination and chortled gleefully “I’am immortal” little realising the reason he was not killed was not immortality, but because he had yet to complete his purpose in life that was determined for him.Today look at the europeans, docile as sheep,at one time the most aggressive people invading far out countries, always fighting even among themselves, today peaceful,a lesson learned from hitler.

Others like you and me lesser mortals may just have a purpose of only putting out a line of descendants to populate this earth. Not for us the purpose of changing something in this world, but sometimes suddenly we may find that we are fulfilling a purpose that we never thought of, late in life.Example gota, when he went to the US would not have thought in his wildest dreams that he would be the DS of srilanka in late life making an important contribution to the decimation of the LTTE and maybe also contributing substantially to the split up of the country one day.

              Shanker,

              Read:

Create Your Own Religion: A How-To Book without Instructions Paperback
              by Daniele Bolelli (Author)

Monk Maranam created Sinhala “Buddhist” Racism from Buddhism and Sinhala. Do you know why there are hardly any Tamil Buddhists in Sri Lanka?

              http://www.amazon.com/Create-Your-Own-Religion-Instructions/dp/1938875028/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1394386408&sr=8-1&keywords=create+your+own+religion

Create Your Own Religion is a call to arms–an open invitation to question all the values, beliefs, and worldviews that humanity has so far held as sacred in order to find the answers we need to the very practical problems facing us.

Writer, philosopher, and professor of comparative religion, Daniele Bolelli, leads the reader through three thousand years of mythology, misogyny, misinformation, and the flat-out lies about “revealed truth” that continue to muddle our ability to live a peaceful life, free of guilt and shame and the ultimate fear of death.

“Our worldviews are in desperate need of some housecleaning,” says Bolelli. “We enter the 21st century still carrying on our backs the prejudices and ways of thinking of countless past generations. What worked for them may or may not still be of use, so it is our job to make sure to save the tools that can help us and let go of the dead weight.”

This review is from: Create Your Own Religion: A How-To Book without Instructions (Paperback)
I have read Daniele Bolelli’s other works and grew to be a fan as he distills ancient and current wisdom into a form and substance anyone can apply to their own life philosophy. If anyone is familiar with the philosopher Alan Watts, Daniele basically tells us that “This is It” and you might as well have a good time while one is here breathing as there is no where to get to. While Watts wrote in an Eastern way about the interconnectedness of all, Daniele synthesizes this in this treatise on Religion. If all of life is a web connecting everyone else then why not choose the best bits of culture/philosophy in order to live the best possible life. What I like about the book is how he skewers the hypocrisy of organized religion yet shows us the illumination inherent in some of the world’s perennial philosophies. If you want to read one of modern day history’s greatest story tellers infused with great quotes by Nietzsche and others than this is a book for you. I had fun reading this and had a wry smile on the whole time. Bolelli is half monk, half raconteur.. ie, the Drunken Taoist..

      Agree with Anpu.

None of this has anything to do with Buddhism.

What are all these extravagant rituals? What on earth is this guy doing in monkhood anyway? Why not become a layman and lead a corrupt, matrialistic lifestyle?

Corrupt politicians, dodgy business owners & people implicated in cold blooded, daylight murders are among cheerleaders at this B’day bash.

      This is not Buddhism. Period.

Ben Hurling , The problem is there is no provisions in our legal system or in any “Nikaya” to kick out[derobe] these kind of imposters. Any person can put on a yellow robe[without belong to any Nikaya] and erect a temple anywhere and distort Buddhism and the Dhamma as he wish. Because these kind of imposters getting the full blessing of corrupted politicians, business owner’s and other racketeer’s. The sad thing is this imposter is guiding many more novices under him to follow his eccentric way.

        FYI

“Because our minds are clouded by ignorance, we often don’t have a clear understanding of dukkha and its causes. The remedy is to be mindful of how things actually are. In the Vipallasa Sutra, the Buddha described four basic ways we misconstrue our experience-known as the four distortions of mind because things are grasped in a way that is opposite to how they actually are.

        Holding the Impermanent as Permanent

Trusting That Unsatisfactory Things Bring Happiness

No there are enough monks that work for their living today.
Those days only, every monk was pinguthtarayos. Earlier they were not even asked to touch currencies. Their gentle way of life was exemplary. Today, they just walk down with cameras or other materials on their hands. As if they are just tourists to their country of origins.
See alone the robe of the monk on the pic is not made out of cotton, instead silk, next days, these skin head men will start wearing sarees telling our stupid folks something else. If my memory permits me the truth, atapirikara sivuru are made of cotton. Anyway, Gaping nation would do anything if it came from one covered with red robes not thinking the meaning of the stuff.

I respect for examples the monks like – Mawarale Baddiya thero. He is educated and his bana are very interesting. His kind of bana can heal the nation. Nation that have almost lost all human values to this day. Poor nations like ours have no enoough psychologists or sociologist to help people. Those days, buddhist monks were the ones who contributed that much to keep the society that civlized. I see society then – few decades ago, were more civilized than it is today.

“The Buddha taught the first monks and nuns to make their robes of “pure” cloth, which meant cloth that no one wanted. Types of pure cloth included cloth that had been chewed by rats or oxen, scorched by fire, soiled by childbirth or menstrual blood, or used as a shroud to wrap the dead before cremation. Monks would scavenge cloth from rubbish heaps and cremation grounds.

Any part of the cloth that was unusable was trimmed away, and the cloth was washed. It was dyed by being boiled with vegetable matter — tubers, bark, flowers, leaves — and spices such as turmeric or saffron, which gave the cloth a yellow-orange color. This is the origin of the term “saffron robe.” Theravada monks of southeast Asia today still wear spice-color robes, in shades of curry, cumin and paprika as well as blazing saffron orange.”

“According to the Vinaya-pitaka, the Buddha asked his chief attendant Ananda to design a rice paddy pattern for the robes. Ananda sewed strips of cloth representing rice paddies into a pattern separated by narrower strips to represent paths.”

“To this day many of the individual garments worn by monks of all schools are made of strips of cloth sewn together in this traditional pattern, which often a five-column pattern of strips, or sometimes seven or nine strips. In the Zen tradition, the pattern is said to represent a “formless field of benefaction. The pattern might also be thought of as a mandala representing the world.”

Me too, though living on the west, have never held it as a big issue. But I know christians in general celebrate their b days. Actually, I dont EVEN come to that point because my roots are from the country. It is just an another day for me. Next time on, I will NOT spend a cent for the sake of lanken monks, rather intend to do LOT MORE towards kids and aged people that are really in need.
I lived in the country during my birth to adolescence and as a born buddhist, I still respect all religions but would never hail this kind of wasteful event specially organized by highly funny figures.
The blunder lies on those who stood by these pseudo men in robes to rock in this way. I have listened to the monk´s so called bana preaching on you tube and felt that today all these have become modern way of life colombo living urbanites. Further politicians to take part those events is far from understanding. That send the message of the mirror image of society.

Seelawathi,There are very devoted, dedicated monks in SL. I personally support some temples in Eastern part of SL. This monk was a therawada monk few years back. But a powerful politician convert this monk to “Mahayana” doctrine with the patronage of wealthy businessmen. Now he said he attain kind of buddhahood. Like in “Mahayana” buddhist countries there are many more Buddhas. So these corrupted powerful politicians as well as corrupted businessmen get together and promoted this monk. Now they treat this monk as a “Buddha”.

The fault is in SL Government. Even though there are provisions to protect and nourish Buddhism from the Constitution, our stupid politicians as well as Buddha Sasana Minister in a deep slumber. Minister is nothing but a weak puppet who promote multi-cultural,multi-religious policy. Some think build 80 feet or more Buddha statues will protect Buddhism in SL. Some think beautiful pageants, pendals will protect buddhism. The most important thing to protect buddhism in SL is devoted, dedicated, well disciplined and well educated “Sanga”. So if government,Chief Prelates, or somebody else do not take action to derobe these monks, buddhism in SL facing severe threat in near future. If not Let’s Hope maybe MADULUWAWE SOBITHA can do it after he win the next Presidential Election.

Native Veddha, Don’t come to preach me about Land grab in Eastern SriLanka. Muhudu Maha Viharaya, temple in Akkaraipattu, temple in Arisimale are few examples. Your ancestors in Batticaloa[Vakarei] convert to Tamils , and I think you decend from that mixed clan. There is no Veddha blood in your veins. And I never heard Veddha in Maha Oya,Pollebadda,Henanigala or in Vakarei promoting multi cultural,multi-religious policy. No. They[US,UK,EU funded INGO’s] advice Buddhists to promote it. They advice buddhist to erect kovil, mosque and a church in the Temple.

Multi cultural and multi religious policy is introduce to SL by INGO’S funded by USA,UK and EU. This policy connected with stylish words, reconcilliation, social intergration, ethnic and religious harmony etc….
Yeah very nice words. But underneath it is nothing but a conspiracy to eradicate Buddhism from SL. Is Rayappu Joseph promoting multi cultural, multi religious policy? Is Malcom Ranjith promoting it? Is As-sheikh Rizve Mufthi promoting it? NO.
Only this weak puppet doing it. Why? The muslims in Gampola spend money on his and his sons election campaighn. From where these money comes from? Yes it is from Heroin.

But how many percentage of those monks are good among them ?

Any right thinking ones would unequivocally agree with you the view that Rev. Sobitha Thero would be allowed to abolish executive presidency in order to restore democracy in the lost island.

My hope is the voice several more mahanama should raise the essense of updating Mahawamsa – revealing all the shortage of info related to the buddhism and the history of lanka accordingly. Doctoral candidates in buddhist literiture could contribute in this regard. If not now then when would it has to be updated ?

Those who try to live their fantasies by the name of great buddha´s philosophy are being promotod by stupid politicians. Unfortunatley, this is what we can learn from the pics.

If you really wanne to respect buddhist views, you dont need to take part of this kind of events but help and pray for those who are really in need, in a country masses are struggling for their three meals today, being unable to bear sky rockted price hikes specially of the daily essentials, people s concerns are more. Besides, just to waste in this way, for idiotic b parties have never been the tradition of buddhists. This man in red robes

It is none other than the poor mums and dads in rural sector who work their arse off to put the food on the table and try to give their kids an education hoping that at east they will break out of the poverty cycle.

And these mums and dads make up the great majority of the inhabitant population in fact over 75 % of it.

Rajapkasas at least liberated them from terrorism and provided freedom from fear and a chance to earn a few quid by keeping the Economy growing at a respectable 7.5 percent.

Will the UNP or the JVP or the DNA do better?.

One has to be a resident of Angoda to think so.

Here is a good example how the so called Elite and the Intelligentsia embrace even alleged murders because of fame and money.

Tissa Attanayaka’s, the right hand man of Ranil and his Christian Faction, looks like he has met with a long lost brother or the boy friend, standing next to “Kudu Duminda.”

And Tissa is one of the Guarding Angels of moral standards, Human Rights and Western values and protectors of Sinhala Buddhists from even Packer’s Poker machines.

Here he is in the company of a murderer who killed a own party member and is castigated as the son of Satan by Tissa Attanayaks own party and his own median scrum.

Bellantatra ,and Bellanvilla, Priests also seem to bless the Elites and their mates regard less whether they are crooked or not as long as they have the money.

And perhaps tied the Pirith Nula on both Tissa and Kudu Duminda with a special blessing for their path to Nirwana.

Our great majority of mums and dads should also pray for a quick Nirwana for them.

And they will be happy that not even a pretend Rajapaksa was at this Birthday Bash….

While exposing the hypocrisy of Tissa pissunayaka why don’t you have some words for the relationship between your subject and Gota?

Remember it is not Tissa who saved Duminda’s ass after the shoot-out with Bharatha.

what are you trying to say K A Sumansekera (LEELA) why are you not bothered to talk of Soma Edirisnghe who is neither Christian or UNP but a woman who claims to be a good Buddhist (hmmm does the name Ranjan Ramanayake mean anything here folk)

leave Tissa and Duminda aside, what do you think of this monk Sumanasekera? is this the GREAT WAY OF BUDHIST LIFE that you fellows yearn for ,please tell me as im eager to know

The only thing worse than this demonstration of Sinhala Buddhist culture is the b.s. that K.A. Sumanasekera spouts about it!

That great religio-philosophic tradition that sprang from the soil of India has been soiled years ago by many in the priesthood here – with
due respect to millions of pious Buddhists here. Buddharakhita (1950s) to Soma Thero of recent years are nothing compared to the devilry of the current crop of activist megalomaniacs going as hamuduruwos.
      It has markedly become
worse in the past few years, consistent with the rapid decline in many of our standards – a country that was respected by the world for such a long time. The Mudalali mafia hijacked Lankan Buddhism some years ago and it has now gone to the Drug-Casino-Prostitution mafia.

Hey KAS The Rajapaksha Koolaid man,

What is the problem that you are having with figuring out
who the suckers are while being one? This is
what Srilankans get as long as they believe
defeating LTTE was a Rajapaksha family
achievement and that would give them devine
rights to loot the country and protect scumbags
      like kudu Duminda.

If 75% of your ” inhabitants”
are having to work their arse off just to put food
on the table, your 8% economic growth and
so called Rajapaksha liberation has done
nothing or very little to pull these “great majority of
inhabitants ” out of this misery.

Rajapaksha family rule has produced a vast
resovior of credulous society in the name of
      bogus patriotism. Rogue Buddhist monks,
shady business community and scumbags like
Kudu dummia are reaping the harvest of such
a society along with Rajapakshas. It would
continue until majority of srilankans wake up and
emancipate themselves from the bogus ” Rajapaksha
      patriotism “.

Would you now support those who want to liberate Buddha’s teaching from Sinhala/Buddhism which is being practiced by stupid Sinhala/Buddhists under the control of saffron clad thugs?

Amazing. I never imagined that these monks could be so wayward and popular too. Mix of politicians from Kudu Karayas to UNP Secretary and ? EAP Soma Edirisinghe too. Pity they dont show this on Swarnavahini. This must be Niravana on earth and this monk must be a great Arahat or Bodhisatva.

Can any one in Sri Lanka print this (importantly comments – of course you can leave some of the comments!) and send it (anonymously of course) to Bellantara temple in Delhiwala? I will wait for two days for some one to respond positively to this request. If I do not hear within two days I will send it myself. Hope I can find the address via google.
    Thanks

So, I really dont think that people down there are wise enough to see things considerately. They are born corrupted people that are said to be literate but stupid. I will not fully stop giving alms to lanken kind of monks. They are healthy and even beggers on the street deserve more than these idiots in robes. While the cost of living is getting sky high, living on people ´s offers and carrying out this kind of ceremonies of self indulgencies, ..
Politicians should be questioned as to why they took part in such ceremonies ? This monk should not be allowed to continue his living in this way in a country people across the island struggle to live their lives.

I normally respect of the views and explanations of Wijedasa Rajapakshe, but I really wonder why he too took part in this B party not asking why ?
One shold be mad to take part this kind of events being in Srilanka, if it was out of the island nation, one could just respect them, but to support hold such event within the country has not been lanken tradition.

Jayawewa Mathrubumiyata – Thirisannu have ruined it allowing any idiots to do whatever they think is right without respecting morals or all ethics.

What a defeat for Tamils in UNHRC!!

US resolution is like a cricket ball from a match fixing bowler.

    No INTERNATIONAL investigation!!

    No GENOCIDE!!

    No REFERENDUM.

Damn losers. Now Tamils can get back to howling and weeping.

ehhhh where do Tamils fall into the picture here Fathima (Lorenso)? we are talking about a hypocritical monk and his kind and your talking of UN Human rights sessions…are you feeling ok in your head?

or are you paid by the no of times you mention key words like ‘tamils’ ‘ltte’ etc?

Fathima (Lorenso) seems to be a good case study for psychiatry students in Lanka

BTW:why does CT not moderate such irrelevant comments from Fathima as it really brings the standard of the forum down

      Wimal,

Picture worth a thousand words. Have you looked at all the photos?

Did not you see the silk?
Did not you see the people participated?

“Deshamanya R Duminda Silva, ******suspected murderer of Bharatha Lakshman Premachandra**********, UNP General Secretary Tissa Attanayake, UNP MP Wijedasa Rajapaksha and EAP Edirisinghe Chairperson Soma Edirisinghe featured prominently among the patrons of the eccentric monk Pitiduwe Siridhamma of the Bellantara temple in Delhiwala in whose honour a lavish birthday party was thrown recently.”

Buddha’s entire teaching was to lead a life in this world in a manner so that one will not be re-born again. If this is the fundamental teaching of the Buddha then how can a Buddhist Monk celebrate being born! What Buddhism is this?

I have no idea how Thissa joined to the same crowd – low social class of duminda and the like.

But I know from my info with that Kudu Dumi is only connected poor people to paint a better image – as a murderer turn to a philanthrophist.

If Lanken rulers fight against injustice of the people, particular duminda´s reawake from so called long injuries are good example. Those who studied the case should be made accountable. My question is even if there are prima fasie evidence is there – for example asking the source of medical data directly from the singaporian mount elisabeth hosptital.
Even today, lanken counterparts should be given the access to the truths of course of the recovery.
This kind of incidents would not have been escaped in Germany.. no way.
People are not stupid as it is the case in my country of origin -srilanka.
Those who study these events in terms of lanken Rajapakshe politics would go on laughing at us – we the expatriates can only join them, even if we LOVE our mother lanka and its future.

Bloody Joke! Birthday party for a monk. Birthday cake with candles and Western style Fork & Spoon meals! Only Madonna not there to sing happy birthday song and give him kiss on cheek (the upper one, I mean). ModaWansa where are you! Gautama Buddha must be turning in his grave.

Please do not write crap and waste everyone’s time. This article has nothing to do with Muslims, Tamils or the LTTE.

Buddhists have to ask WHY WHY WHY and WHY.

Why are we allowing Monks with seemingly little learning except the gift of the gab get away with anything.

Why does this temple have an entrance befitting a fortress?
Why do idiots gift silk robes to monks?
Why do fools pay for lavish Dana’s for monks?
Why do we not understand there is NO MERIT to doing any of this?
Why are the Dayakayas stupid in their behaviour?
Why is the Ministry of Buddha Sasana silent.

I know the answers that will be forthcoming.

It is a private affair, we are a Buddhist country, it is our business. How foolish can we get!

May be they work RATHER for sex films behind this kind of fortresess. Foreigners may donate funds for THOSE activities, else why to make the appearences of them like beauty monks ? It is the responsibilty govt to wake up and check these pseduo buddhist monks as if people were subjected to check at security check points. Then only these buggers would start learning to respect the values.

From what I heard about this monk, I feel he should not be a monk. His filth narrations come from ugly mouth are really not nice. He has no respect at all.. not the least as one who survive on the foods given by voluntary adherents.

IS this some kind of a joke?

No one is to be blamed neither the Monks ,the are thugs , rapists or murders ,drug peddlers , under valuing smugglers , and other type of in bound & out bound smugglers, bribe takers, or Politicians – this is exactly what The larger segment of this country’s majority have endorsed ,as long as the minority is suppressed that is all they want.

This is the price so pay it. and do not blame them unless you are willing change ?

What a collection of chamelions! This pseudo, pretentious Buddhist monk is even mocking Lord Buddha. He seems to be role playing a chakrawarthi emperor. The glory has gone to his head and he has become mental.

And see all the criminal and rogue politicians surrounding him. My god, what has happened to Sri Lankan Buddhism, it is going down to hell with these thieves around.

Guys look at those fat chicken legs poking out of these monks dinner plates. What a disgrace, these self serving preachers of lies. I am appalled!

Chicken curry, devilled beef and fried pork on the menu? I am not surprised. I am also not surprised by the holier than thou UNP bigwigs rubbing shoulders with the killer Kudu Duminda. What an example they set for the gullible voters!

The fools voted these people into power and worship the rogues in yellow robes. What a country! Oh, what a country Sri Lanka is!!
