The Reality Behind The Explosion At The Army Central Armoury In Kosgama

By Mahinda Rajapaksa

Mahinda Rajapaksa

The explosion and complete destruction of the Sri Lanka Army’s central armoury located at the Salawa army camp in Kosgama has shocked the nation. I would like to express my condolences to the family of the soldier who lost his life in the disaster and wish those who have been injured, a speedy recovery. The destruction of army property and the properties of civilian residents living in the vicinity has been extensive. The central armoury of the army was established in this location in the late 1990s by the then government despite protests by politicians in the area like Dinesh Gunawardena and Bandula Gunawardane who warned against the storing of large quantities of ordnance close to residential areas.

During the war, we took special precautions to ensure the security of this installation and after 2009, the army had been gradually relocating this armoury and I am to understand that most of the ordnance in this location had been shifted temporarily to places like Veyangoda and distributed to Diyatalawa and Maduruoya for use in training. Two large farms in Oyamaduwa and Rambewa had also been identified to store the remaining ordnance on a permanent basis. But since our time no further action had been taken on this matter. Be that as it may, I am very surprised that a breakdown in security of this magnitude can occur at an installation like this. If something like this had happened during the war, the war effort would have been seriously undermined.

These installations are guarded day and night, and checked at least twice a day. Expired ordnance is regularly destroyed. There are precautions taken to minimise damage even in the case of accidents such as electricity leaks. However all those systems had failed and the authorities should inquire into why that happened. Though we still do not know for certain what caused the fire, it can be said as a general statement that when self esteem and morale are at a low ebb in a military organisation, supervision, vigilance, leadership and the general state of alertness also suffers. During the first few months of my presidency, for the first time in world history, terrorists were able to carry out a suicide attack on an army commander inside his own headquarters.

Though the immediate reason the terrorists were able to carry out such an attack were the shortcomings in the security arrangements at army headquarters at the time, the more important underlying cause was the defeatist mindset created among armed forces personnel by the 2002-2006 ceasefire. Several incidents since January last year have had the effect of seriously undermining the self esteem and morale of the armed forces to an extent unseen even during the years of the 2002 ceasefire. Any inquiry into the causes of the Kosgama disaster should also look into the general state of morale in the armed forces at present. In the meantime, I welcome the government’s announcement that they will rebuild the houses damaged by the explosion. The displaced will also have to be provided alternative accommodation until their houses are rebuilt.

Hope this Fire at the Army camp had nothing to do with the Arrest of Basil Rajapaksa. If so it’s a bad situation for the nation. Government has to take action against the Rajapaksas fast and prevent them from destabilizing the nation.

Mahinda Jarapassa, What a brainless lie this statement is!

You and your brother Goon Gota the white van man, so called Defense Secretary, were militarizing Sri Lanka and buying weapons from Russia and China long after the war against the terrorist LTTE ended.

Gota was on a military expansion and arms buying spree, getting more ammunition and storing them in Salawaa. This as to build up and to protect Gota Jarapassa’s military dictatorship and DEEP STATE in Sri Lanka. Thanks god Sira-Ranil and t

Sri Lanka military and its infrastructure and personnel should be comprehensively reviewed, rolled back, and down sized for peace time. Merely having more security in ammunition stores is not a solution.

Security sector in Sri Lanka must be reformed, Re-EDUCATED and revamped and made lean, ethical and strong to work for peace and reconciliation.
      he public voted you out!

Building a armory in civilian area in Kosgoda and not removing it after war ends, is like having army camps in civilian property and lands in Jaffna and northeast, and Defense Ministry refusing to return their land to civilians..

History Repeat itself! now the Sinhalese are realizing and experiencing these heavy weapons made havoc in the North & East killing thousands innocent Tamil civilians for the past 30 years. 1. Sinhalese are getting killed by their own bombs stored underground to massacre the Tamils in the North and East 2. Sinhalese are getting displaced as refugees to other areas. 3. houses are destroyed by their own bombs meant for the Tamils living in the North and East. This is Karma.

Do you know what SF fell out with GR and MR? SF took his ENTIRE family living in comfort in the USA(under protection with 2 commandos from SLA) to Beijing to procure weapons and ammunition when the war was almost over. He wanted this to go to his son in law and HiTech Corp. GR turned it down. He was furious. Thus started the falling out over how to carve up the piece of lucrative luscious pie. So do not shoot your mouth off without facts. Ask SF how his ex son in law had a flashy new BMW on an F-1 visa. SF was very militaristic and very much for expanding the military even more.

      Dear Sir,
The nation loves you and still value your contribution in saving us not only from Tamil Tiger terrorism, but also from US and Britsi colonilism.

They conspired against you using power hungry, unpatriotic apologies for Sri Lankan politicians like Rajitha Senaratne, Mangala Pukaraweera, Sirisena and Ranil Wickremesinghe. But it is all coming apart now with Mangala and Rajitha in the bad, incompetent books and people like Arjuna and John Baas playing hell in the sexual arena.

It is only a matter of time before people will elevate you back to power, apologising for the mistake they made on January 8.

Good luck and good health to you.

So, should we call one (or several) of the following ‘rulers’ from the dead – who ‘lovingly’ raped our women, massacred our mae population and stole our land?

            Please choose :

            Monarchs
            • 1815–1820 George III
            • 1820–1830 George IV
            • 1830–1837 William IV
            • 1837–1901 Queen Victoria
            • 1901–1910 Edward VII
            • 1910–1936 George V
            • 1936 Edward VIII
            • 1936–1948 George VI

            Governors
            • 1798–1805 Frederick North
            • 1805–1811 Thomas Maitland
            • 1812–1820 Robert Brownrigg
            • 1944–1948 Henry Monck-Mason Moore

Isn’t it surprising how the hymie skunks can’t still accept the reality that we regained our country in 1948 and whatever happens now is our own doing.

Go back to where you came from you stinking hyena. We can manage our own affairs.

      What’s you logic, man?

When the morale of the armed forces are low the ammunitions have a habit of going into self-combustion?

Sure, the morale of the armed forces are low because you and your brother got them to do your dirty deeds. Now they on their own have to face the music with the new government.

If you have any courage or love of the armed forces as professed, you and your brother will be man enough to own up to your dirty deeds you got the forces to do. That’s the honourable way to do it, but no one is holding their breath.

It’s very simple, buddy, if you want the morale of the forces to be high, own up to Lasantha, Eknaligoda, Thadudeen………. killings and save the pawns who carried out your instructions.

      Simple, isn’t it?

Native Vedda, do you know about the Coastal Veddahs in Vakarai and other remote areas close to Sampur and also Thoppigala?

FACT: General Chrishantha DeSilva fell out with Gota and was appointed by RW and NOT by GR. The General was Deputy Ambassador to Russia; a post created by MR to make way for Daya Ratnayake. Daya was considered a loyalist to the MR regime. But once the election ended Daya was booted out and Chrishantha appointed because he had seniority. He was the one who told GR to get lost when he wanted army commanders to come back shamelessly to campaign for MR. DeSilva refused and told GR to get lost. He won respect over that. He is not a combat veteran but a senior Engineering corps commander and involved in demining and bridge building etc. He is a very nice guy but definitely not a MR-GR man. So get your bloody facts straight mate.

/Any inquiry into the causes of the Kosgama disaster should also look into the general state of morale in the armed forces at present.

This inquiry should include the amount of armory that was available at the end of the war, at December 2009 and every December since 2009.

“Despite protests by politicians in the area like Dinesh Gunawardena and Bandula Gunawardane who warned against the storing of large quantities of ordnance close to residential areas.”, says Mahinda. He should be taken to task for not doing the right thing at least after the war with ever increasing defense budget even after the war.

It is Gota who would answerable for the stock during those war years. Gota, as Defense Secretary, and Mahinda, as the Minsiter for Defense, for the systems that ensures “Expired ordnance is regularly destroyed. There are precautions taken to minimise damage even in the case of accidents such as electricity leaks”.

Also, Mahinda should explain how he knows that “Several incidents since January last year have had the effect of seriously undermining the self esteem and morale of the armed forces.”.

“We protected the stuff all this time, and the destruction happened now”, screams Namal Rajapakse. He should bloody shut up! Is he finding fault in the Military? Then, just say it.

MR is quick to blame the government as expected for the explosion and his reason is ‘low morale’ among the soldiers. The accidents can happen as explosions did happen during his tenure as well. The military is not doing anything constructive and that ,too, create low morale among them. The end of the war hasn’t created, peace or less expenditure on defence or peace dividend. This government simply heed to MR’s dictates.

It’s sad that the victims had to suffer by sustaining injuries and losing their houses. The government will reconstruct them and pay compensations to the families of the death soldier and injured.

Lord Buddha said the Karma is very strong. The people of all the ethnicities must be treated fairly, no amount of armoury and military can guarantee the security of any country. If one looks at other post-independent countries that have multiculturalism Sri Lanka treated its minority communities most harshly and unfairly and the consequences are ethic pogroms, wars and destruction of properties, poverty and above all mutual hatred among the people. Unless a solution is found based on fairness and equality, sufferings will continue, as happened everywhere with discord.

The above 3 matters called for IMMEDIATE ATTENTION by the government by you Sir are very far sighted and thought-out suggestions that has been so far made by any political leader, since the Kosgama, Salawa military armoury fire disaster took place. Since you have gained so much interpersonal relationship experience while being the President and Armed Forces Chief since 2005 – 20014 between the Army ranks and the other Security Forces directly and indirectly through the office of Gotabaya Rajapaksa as the Secretary – Defense, your human understanding of these HEROIC servicemen can be much understood when you call for attention to their “General State of Morale” . The Nation hopes that the Yahapalana government will seriously consider your suggestion/proposal without political indulgence of thinking in defeat in accepting this REALITY.

Where was all your SHAME, SHAME, SHAME and how could you accept the shameful conduct of the past regime so “meekly”?

Not only that, you are still the torch-bearer for those “shameless” lot who got kicked out by “our people”.

This not meant in any way to condone the many stupid things done by the current lot, but let’s try to be objective instead of wallowing in double standards.

People can not escape blaming everything on govt.

Forces may be under stress because for unnecessary reasons politicians are busy entertaining Tamils and their western and indian masters.

So, it is partly due to poor political leadership.

What a feeble effort by MR to have a go at SF? If we were to follow that line of attack, then for the attack on GR, it is GR himself that should take the blame; he did not get himself well secured and protected, his fault, lol!

Kosgama camp and ordnance stores must have been most vulnerable during the peak of war, yet MR, GR and everyone was quite happy and content to maintain its status quo that CBK is purported to have given it. In crying fowl now, they are crying fowl on themselves. They did not think of civil population at the time? Why should they…… they were living in luxurious underground bunkers lined with marble, never mind the civvies!

No one is going to be able to convince me that this parasite had the intellectual fortitude to come up with this stupid statement all by himself. No bloody way. Can someone please tell me the process of submitting an article to CT in order for it to be published. The moron who accepted this should be whipped.
These clowns spent more or just as much on ordinance after the war ended as they did during. At lease that’s what the budget allocations made us believe. Oh but I forgot that this power hungry slut was our commander in chief and his brother was Def. Sec. Hmmmmm wonder where all the money went that was supposed to be used to stock pile more arms in the so called name of national security. This liar along with the rest oh his henchman will not stop until this country is totally destroyed. Jesus, Mohammed, Buddha or Ganesh can be elected to lead this country but according these scum it wouldn’t be enough. So bloody sick of hearing this bullshit on a daily basis. Even more embarrassed by the questions from my foreign mates wh have talked a keen interest in Sri Lankan politics not for any other reason but for their daily dose of entertainment.

The resident liyana-mahaththaya has sugar-coated the thoughts of the Great Liberator. The truth though does not quite tie up.

The Great Liberator and his erstwhile Brother took the smart step on instantly clearing out the Armed Forces top=dogs and moving the victorious generals to desk jobs. The Great Liberator and his powerful brother had the supreme power to declare many camps immediately’surplus to requirements’, and the Kosgama camp was in urgent need of closure. The redeployment of munitions should have been high priority. Alas, they were all busy on other ‘pressing’ matters laying the foundation for eternal rule.

Many innocent people have lost their homes, and their hard lives have been blighted. They will work out the truth, sooner rather than later.

Procrastination can be a proper bastard!

    Pissu MARA!

[Edited out] and his once medically and mentally condemned baya gotha who fled the war to US are revealing with numbers all the locations the army is storing ammunitions! The pair of clown [Edited out] are revealing and jeopardizing the most critical and vital military secrets to the terrorists! Is this how he brags to have waged the war and won it against the tiger?

The culpability of this disaster rests originally and primarily with those who took the decision to locate this ammunition storage at this populated area.

The next line of responsibility lies with the Rajapakshas, who are a bunch of lunatics ranting about war victory, who failed for five years post war to shift the ammos to safe locations. Post war, instead of effecting relevant reorientations, behavioral rehabilitations socializations of soldiers, scaling down military personnel and hardware these Rajapakshas entered loot the country and merry mode completely abandoning their responsibility towards the country. On the other hand, Rajapakshas seem to have imported an extravagant and exceeding amount of ammos than are necessary to pocket themselves commissions as a result of the military is finding it difficult find adequate and safe storage facilities.

Thirdly the responsibility lies with the Defense Minister President MS who, in his childish and immature dream of wanting to become somebody in a refurbished SLFP/UPFA concoct, completely jettisoned his responsibility as the CC President and assumed the role of SLFP protector which entailed appointment of Rajapaksha Pillies, crooks, criminals, deal mongers and thieves to key positions in the government. He appointed a total idiot as army commander and a thief as air force commander! The clown he appointed as defense secretary would give his life for Rajapakshas. In whatever arms of governance this is the case. How can a country whose people have put down the colossal burden and corruption of Rajapakshas advance with evil spirits of Rajapakshas appointed to all the key position of the country? MS who is in charge of defense is responsible for this destruction.

The Rajapakshas did this arson! Proof? Well, you can’t find crime scene clues in a disaster of this caliber. But it is pretty simple to draw the plan on the canvas of thought. Rajapakshas are cornered and desparate-Thajudeen and all that tightening the death knell on them. They are desperate for reentry to rule to bury their crimes and merry making. Next election in 5 years will offer no chance to them at all and UNP will definitely and singularly form a stable government. Whatever protection they enjoyed under Yahapalanaya will wane and the arms of justice and policing will mercilessly chase after them. So they want a way out through extra ordinary means. They have only two options left: ignite flames of racial riots which will also include elements of religious extremism, nationalism, xenophobia, Sinhala supremacy, Rajapaksha Savior-ism, Buddhist Extremism and terrorism, War Heroes and desecration of them by the present West-knelt government. The other set of sordid acts involve creating more and more problems and disasters for the country. For Rajapakshas a natural disaster like flooding is a happy blessing to be easily interpreted, using their media vassals, as the incompetence of the Yahapalanaya government! They drove on the media tides of landslides, floods, VAT, Bonds, foreign loans, Eastern Chief Minister’s behavior, FCID, Budget proposals and Rajapaksha’s colossal security battalion. They are maintaining a large battalion of monks to inflame the society. An equally nefarious and corrupt GMOA is also there for their rescue although the CBEU has gone into hibernation.

The government has been struck by one issue and destruction after another: the Rajapaksha debt trap, insufficient government revenue, slow progress of government mechanism due to infiltration of Rajapaksha Pilli, the earth slips and floods. With the floods the government had to completely review their mega police plan and the huge burden of resettlement of thousands of families. Instead of pursuing with development plan of the country the government has had to focus on welfare of the people. This is ideal breeding ground for Rajapaksha maggots to lay another Rajapaksha egg of leg pulling: why not create a man-made havoc-that of Kosgama ammo storage arson! In fact Rajapakshas are quite notorious for arson anyway-the Colombo Land Registry, the Customs Storages, BMICH fire, Sirasa, Lankaenews, Tamil press etc. Now the Rajapakshas have defecated inside the underpants of Yahapalanaya government but they don’t still see that!

Two bombs attached to remote controlled detonators hidden among small arms ammunitions storage and at underground artillery ammo storage chambers may have provided the mode of detonation. The time was just right when all the soldiers had gathered outside for an army routine. There was only a lone casualty who happened to be trapped inside a trench. Rajapaksha vassals had executed another well-timed perfect arson with maximum results. Oh! Those imbecilic blockheads who venerate Rajapakshas as war heroes! They still don’t recognize the true face of the Rajapaksha proud father!

While the Rajapakshas are merry making the pissu Janadipathiya is wanking trying to become somebody out of nobody. I will not be surprised if Rajapakshas fuckers blow out Victoria dam or something of that sort while this impotent and toothless government is malfunctioning all the way.

Today the Rajapaksharized defense secretary came up with the inevitable and readymade answer i.e. he heard somebody saying the explosion was initiated while rehearsing an emergency firefighting drill !!!!! So typical of Rajapakshas! I wonder what will happen to the world if America engaged in the same kind of firefighting drill inside a nuke store![Edited out]

Silva, you have presented an entirely plausible scenario with many truths included.

Wonder what the diehard apologists of MR (like DJ, ‘Words’, Sumanasekera, et al) will have to say about it?

Your observations on the present lot are also telling!

Also one more thing hora Percy,
Your point about the so called low morale of the armed forces. What are you saying ? That moral was high during your time ? You bloody lying idiot, you and your f*^ktards destroyed the good name of the armed forces through your defending of the few rotten apples in order to further your Stone Age nationalistic agenda. If the armed forces were ever low on morale it was when they were unloading sand bags on the Galle face green so baby Namal, Lord Nelson Yoshitha and astronaut Rohitha could play at race car driving. They were at low morale when you had them cleaning up Vihara Maha Devi park. They were at low morale because you decided to claim “zero casualties” while your selected goon squad did your dirty work thereby reflecting nothing but dishonor on the entire armed forces of this country. It was you and your janitorial brother Gota that had them work on beautification and remodeling projects for the government. How did you expect the economy to grow while you had the armed forces doing work that should be undertakes by private entities ? Everyone knows a private entirety cannot compete for tenders and contracts with a states treasury. You and your scumbags made our real war heroes work while you reaped the benefits. Shame on you Mahindra. Yes Mahindra. That’s our name on out birth certificate you opportunistic pimp. Do us all a favor and just shut the F up !!!! And while your at it shove your D^*k in Wimals mouth so he does the same.

“ I welcome the government’s announcement that they will rebuild the houses damaged by the explosion. The displaced will also have to be provided alternative accommodation until their houses are rebuilt.”…..MR

If I remember correctly, many houses in North were destroyed by shelling and bombing without any recognition. Then the victims were labeled purposely as terrorists even though the forces knew it missed the intended targets. Thousands of IDP families are still waiting to settle back to their homes even after 25 years.

Recently someone circulated satellite images of houses owned by those IDPs from HSZ in North. One source was Google map that taken last year and the other source was Bing map that was taken few years back.

What they found was many houses without any damage in HSZ are still showing up on Bing map but Google map is now showing those houses as just damaged walls without any roof.

In another case, many residential areas with houses are still showing up intact in Bing map but they are now showing as cleaned larger area with organized sheds like army camps in Google map.

So MR, explained to us why did you approve to clean up residential area in the HSZ while you were in power? Why those houses were removed without any traces after the war was over?

Recently I met some home owners from that HSZ in North and poor souls are still dreaming about going back to their homes. Very soon they would find out that their residential area are now leveled without any traces. Hopefully no one would tell them that their homes were leveled only few years ago after the war was over. MR, are you happy now to hear the suffering of those innocent souls from North?

Despite your decisive action to end the war, despite the road rehabilitation, you and your family are not popular. You can see if you consider the comments in relation to those who favour and those who do not. The vast majority are critical of you and will not favour what you say. This is because everyone knows that you and your family PLUNDERED this country, murdered and terrorised ordinary folk. The best advise you can have is to gracefully retire and enjoy life.

HOWEVER, THE YAHAPALANAYA NEED TO SHOW A GREATER LEVEL OF ASSERTIVENESS and must rid the administration of their corrupt Ministers and officers. Listen to the voice of the Civil Society and read the writing on the wall. Be decisive in arresting those responsible for murders, have all plundered funds repatriated, stop meaningless and wasteful exercises like the megapolis, revamping old buildings etc which bring the ordinary voter no benefits. Set an example by saying a loud and clear “NO” to duty-free vehicles, cut down on staff and security, do away with free meals at the Parliament “Tuck-shop”, femove ALL taxes from exports (the only country that has export taxes!), provide better support for farmers, appoint good men /women to top posts of the big corporations.

This “Reality-behind-the -explosion—” and those writing comments in this forum Look like playing a football game caring less for the millions of referees around the world watching! Except a few most of them and particularly the Author have no basic understanding of the truth “What you reap cannot be different from what you sew!” The Universe goes round and round. What goes around comes around. Can any Sri Lankan Politician stop this phenomenon. No cannot. If you are foolish enough to kill innocents you need to wait and see where the effect of your foolishness will end up.

Degrade and Destroy, say the Americans about their strategy of fighting the Islamists.

Has the Yahapalanan PM adopted the same against the SL Armed Forces who are mainly Sinhala Buddhists ?.

Batalanada Ranil.s dislike and hate towards the Srilankan Armed Forces, the Army in particular is legendary.

Batalanada came to power to punish the Armed Forces by handing over them to the UN and the West to fullfil their buddies, the Diasporians desires.

Batalanda Ranil’s Foreign Minister in fact has given a guarantee to the UN and the West on it.

He even admitted that the McRae made C4 movie is in fact a documentary of the War Crimes of the Srilankan Armed Forces.

Degrading the Armed forces by the Muslim Chief Minister in front of the public,

Demoralising the Armed Forces by the Tamil TNA leader invading the Army Head Quarters,

And Batalanda himself locking up the Military Intelligence Unit on false murder and kidnap charges, are the of actions of Batalanda Ranil and his partners, since this Yahapalana kicked in.

Now 20 years worth of ammunition which the Army had purchased have gone up in flames in one hit.

But the Batalanda PM does not want the Military Intelligence to do any investigations.

Is is all to be handled by his UNP CID.

    Why?..

That is the question which the great majority of the inhabitants are asking.

They are also asking where Bodhi Sira is?…

CT, why are you publishing articles from MPs. If an MP has something to say this should be expressed in parliament not through private websites and the media. Why are you giving these guys prominence , all you are doing is allowing them to use your website as a vehicle for canvassing popularity and eventually trying to win more votes. They are getting free advertising and CT is the fool that is allowing this. On a matter of principle, no MP should be permitted to make statements through the media or websites. Do you hear of Bush or Blair or any MP in the UK using private websites or the media for promoting their image. The bigger issue is that it is time now for the government to introduce this prohibition into the code of ethics for MPs which strictly prohibits MPs from making official statements outside the parliament. Also websites and the media must be penalized for breaching the code. Please do not give these rogues prominence. CT especially was banned by the Rajapakse mafia during their dictatorial regime and if they could have killed you guys they would have done so. Where are CTs principles now – please do not compromise you principles by publishing stuff from these criminals. Keep your website clean and do not let this vermin contaminate it.

The man named as the author most likely did not write this piece, but either a side kick or his wifey might have done it.

The newly elected MP concerned has yet to make his maiden speech in the parliament. Almost one year gone, but we have yet to hear his voice; may be the guy is either very shy, ashamed of himself or dreaming and praying while polishing his brass knob, hoping for a miracle to happen.
