Issuing a joint statement today they said; “The Minister of Foreign Affairs Mr. Mangala Samaraweera was also present.”
“The need for constructive engagement by the Sri Lankan Diaspora was discussed, including the needs of displaced people. It was agreed that a further meeting will be called to present the requirements to various High Commissioners and Ambassadors based in Sri Lanka, with the aim to raise funds for housing of over two thousand families in these newly released lands.
“The release of prisoners held under the Prevention of Terrorism Act (PTA) in the light of the review by the Ministry of Justice was also discussed. The TNA and the GTF further raised the issue of listing of Diaspora organisations and individuals by the previous Government.
“Ideas of ways in which the Sri Lankan Diaspora could assist by bringing its exceptional capacity and capabilities were explored.”

If this was a meeting between the GoSL and the TNA involving any other international parties is justified.
How come only GTF and the unknown Norwegian group got involved. GTF is pathetically a weak organisation with four to five functionaries without wider network. Feeble Fr Emmanual is used like a slave in his prime age.
What made TNA to engage only with LTTE front GTF. There are many other active Tamil groups and individuals who have made very positive contributions. Did GTF make any effort to get wider consensus by engaging with the moderate voices before engaging in this important meeting.
I watched the joint TV discussion of Sumanthiran, Surendran and Ramesh. What they said in the discussion and their joint statement is contradicting. They said they are going to talk only about development in the war affected Tamil areas. But their press release says so many other matters were discussed. They must be hiding many other things they discussed in the meeting. They think Tamil Diaspora mass is an ass.
Engaging Eric Solheim at this time is a dangerous effort. Does Maithiri and Ranil are party to this? Mahinda can take both of them to task with this news.
Sumanthiran stayed in 5 star Hilton and flew to London and returned in the first class. Where was his wisdom to negotiate with the sponsoring Swiss NGO to provide Economy class and stay with relatives or friends or even a cheaper hotel and pay the difference of the benefit to the very needy people whom he represents?
Any future meeting of this nature must be held with wider consensus. Suren is not the lap dog of Mangala and Sumanthiran. He must come under public scrutiny. He is trying to hold the carte blanch by undertaking secret meetings of this nature thus testing the intelligence of the Tamil community.
I am disgusted and TNA too must answer to the Tamil community in a public way about its misdeeds on this matter.
Any more honeymooning of this nature will lead to wider protests and demonstrations. And also critical public campaign.

The election is around the corner and TNA will have to watch out as people expected a sweep in N/E by them but situation is different now as TNA maintains silence in all matters affecting the Tamils. Only the President comes from a rural background but the rest of the cabinet,
including some from TNA come from the elite club and they do not listen

RANIL MANGALA SUMANTHIRANIt is reported that Sri Lanka’s Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe is furious Foreign Minister Mangala Samaraweera partook in a meeting involving GTF’s Suren Surendiran, TNA MP MA Sumanthiran, a representative
of former President Chandrika Bandaranaike Kumaratunge, and Norwegian facilitator Erik Solheim.
GTF is a banned organisation in Sri Lanka, but the participation of Erik Solheim seems to have irked him. Solheim has levelled allegations of war crimes and crimes against humanity against the Rajapakse regime during its conduct of the final stages of Sri Lanka’s civil war. Furthermore, he has been a witness and provided evidence to the OISL inquiry conducted by the UNHRC.
Wickremesinghe is fearful that Rajapakse could exploit this meeting to politically firm up support among Sinhala voters that could prove extremely damaging during the upcoming parliamentary elections.
Sources also say NPC chief Wigneswaran is also displeased and so are many TNA provincial councillors. President Sirisena is reported to be also against it.
On a separate note, many have also raised questions about the jet set nature and star rated lodgings of the GTF/TNA/Mangala pow wows in Singapore. The bill is picked up by the Swiss Foreign government. Given the huge outlays involved many have posed the question whether such an extravagance is appropriate when Sri Lanka’s civil war victims struggle each day to obtain clean drinking water and scrape together one square meal. Most take the view that monies squandered on these meetings are better put to use helping the still suffering 80,000 war widows.

Suren is not an elected person whether in Diaspora land or in mother land. Would Suren be ready to stand at least in the mother and see what the people wants? Sumanthiran will be trying his luck. There is really no worries about this TNA-Mangala- meeting this very small GTF group. But they give the wrong impression to the Sinhalese and the IC that they have legitimacy to represent the diaspora Tamils by dragging TNA into this mess.
Why TNA did this is a little puzzling and Tamils demand an explanation. After all TNA has been voted as representatives of the Tamils in Parliament and NPC. Sirisena is President today because of the Tamils and their votes.
Tamils also assisted in obtaining international funds which even he does not know WTF happened as he was not hands on b4 the elections and when he was nominated as a common candidate which he never campaigned for around the 22nd of November 2014. (Cannot discussed this subject in this forum)… Even Mangala was clueless.
GTF and TGTE are fooling the Tamils and the IC about their contribution and don’t forget both parties wanted Rajapakse as President. They wanted Tamil voters to boycott the Presidential elections this January. That is their degree of stupidity.

There cannot be any role for the Tamil Diaspora in finding a solution to whatevtor problems that may exist for the Tamils living in Sri Lanka. There is no need to engage the Tamil Diaspora for anything.
These are a bunch of people who left Sri Lanka long time ago and settled down in western countries. If they want to come back to Sri Lanka they can all come back and resume their Sri Lankan citizenship. The door has now been opened by this government for them to apply for resumption of their lost Sri Lankan citizenship. If they think they are Sri Lankans it is now time for them to return to Sri Lanka and contribute whatever they can to their motherland.
The problem is that most of those behind GTF London and various other Tamil Diaspora organisations are anti-Sri Lanka and they are all anti-nationals. They will never think of coming back to Sri Lanka but will do all what they can to destablise Sri Lanka. This is what they had been doing in the past by running after the British, Canadian and US leaders and asking them to interfere in the internal affairs of Sri Lanka.
This backdoor TNA MP Sumanthiran is after GTF and other such Tamil Diaspora organisations perhaps because he needs funds to fight an election in Jaffna and to enter Parliament through the front door. This man Mangala Samaraweera may also be in need of election funds. They are cash cows. These pro-LTTE Tamil Diaspora organisations reportedly pump money to the likes of Vaiko, Nedumaran, Thirumavalavan and Seeman to engage in pro-LTTE propaganda in Tamil Nadu. These Tamil Nadu political jokers are now blowing out of proportion the removal of Prapaharan’s statute installed by some unknown character in an unknown village in Tamil Nadu for the sake of money boxes from the Tamil Diaspora.
GTF and all other Tamil Diaspora organisations have always been supportive of LTTE and most of them are in fact LTTE front organisations. That was the reason why most of these organisations were banned by the Mahinda government.

The Tamil diaspora still sends 3.5 Billion dollars as inward remittances into Sri Lanka via SL Banks.
What comes in unofficially is different.
However GTF or Suren did not send a Dollar to the Siri-Chandrika- or Ranil campaign.
Nor did any of the British diaspora offer any cash when Ranil was in London or through other sources to the UNP…

Both the Governor Central Bank Arjuna Mahendran, FM Ravi Karunanayake has the evidence. I am asking them personally, to release such details. They are hiding it and saying the 7 Billion inwards remittances are from Middle East workers.
Even Deputy Minister Harsha De Silva, who is in charge of the CB under Prime Minister Ranil has refused to release any details…
So they are no different from the Rajapakses on this subject…

Yes it is possible.
All what I have asked the UNP 100 times in the past 1 year is release the numbers either country wise or region wise of the 7 Billion dollars that are inward remittances.
Then the numbers can be worked out.

What I know about SWIFT& telegraphic transfer is that they record the names of the sender, receiver, amount, currency and the banks involved. Finding out from where the money comes from should be easy but finding out who belong to the Tamil diaspora would mean analyzing the names of the sender and receiver. I do not believe that anybody at the moment is analyzing the names.
