Ten Attacks On Mosques Since Woolwich Murder

As the number of Islamophobic incidents continues to increase, EDL raises temperature with London march, the Independent reports.

As participants in an English Defence League (EDL) march in Whitehall were recorded giving Nazi-style salutes, Faith Matters, which monitors anti-Muslim hatred, said the number of incidents in the past six days had risen to 193, including ten assaults on mosques. The figure compares to a total of 642 incidents in the previous 12 months – meaning the last week has seen a 15-fold increase on last year’s average of 12 attacks per week,  the newspaper reported.

    WOW!

Shall we remove UK from the Commonwealth? This is against “Commonwealth values”.

UK looks like a very intolerant country. If they cannot stomach one horrific murder. How can they preach to us in SL?

Imagine how Brits would have reacted & behaved, if they went through LTTE style vioelnce on their soil for 30 years.

PS: Yet another, international Glass House somewhat exposed?

Ben, the difference between Sri Lanka and UK is all of them were arrested in UK and in SL none.

It’s true but I totally agree with Ben.
Remember how George poos with that Dick, Cheney reacted when they were targeted? Remember the joker Blair lied thru his teeth about WMD? There were few other sick fellows too in Silvio Berlusconi, Jose Maria Aznar, Howard and his countryman that Dick, Butler as chief inspector, all og them lied. How can they talk against SL. isnt iut hypocrisy?
Dont misread me, I am not saying we have a democtatic goverment. This hora regime must be chased away. Yet the US/UK cant point a finger at us?

Agree. Rule of law functions 1000 times better in the UK.

This is the challenge for SL. An uphill task given how corrupt politians in SL. Are and how stupid voters are.

But, my point is about intolerance and stupidity in society in general.

Brits have been patronizing Sri Lankans for a longtime now.

It turns out Brits are the same. If not worse.

PS: I am not defending intolerance in SL.

          Ben,
‘Brits have been patronizing Sri Lankans for a longtime now.

It turns out Brits are the same. If not worse.’

A good eye opener for the British worshipers in this column. The difference is that Brits are masters of spinning and bullshi**ing, whereas we Sri Lankans do not have a clue how to even portray the truth.

Not true. There were 642 incidents but only a handful were arrested and released.

On the other hand 12 suspects have been arrested already for killing the soldier! I don’t think they will see daylight again.

I am a Sri Lankan living in the UK.. The biggest difference I find here is that whoever it is, when they commit a crime & are wrong they are arrested and put behind bars.. Wrong is wrong whether done by a muslim or EDL or anyone who did it.. Rigby was an unarmed soldier who was on holiday and a father of a small child whose life was taken unfairly and the people involved were arrested.. and the same way whoever attacked muslims over this were arrested …anyone immaterial of race or religion was given justice and treated fairly..
Culprits arrested and brought to justice..
I am just speaking of the incidents otherwise, u cant help that there are loonies on the street, just like there are a few in every country and every city around the world, but generally as a citizen or resident here in the UK, u can safely say they do justice to u immaterial of race religion & are treated with respect as an individual and as a humanbeing..The government doesn’t allow injustice to anyone nor to they turn a blind eye..

Exactly, not only the law enforcement authorities have acted against the offenders from whichever side they may be a donation made to the Hero’s Fund by the English Defence League has been refused. That is law and justice, equality and fairness in the British system. Sri Lanka should learn from this.

        Faz,

Yes. UK has great institutions. Law enforcement is one. Unlike ours. Ours is rotten to the core.

However, this demo proves racism is alive and well in the UK. Just below the surface. Willing to pop up any time.

UK should not preach to SL as if racism is a Sri Lankan invention.

Cancer of racism and religious intolerance is everywhere. Including SL and UK. It is a global battle.

PS: I actually beleive Sri Lankans are far more tolerant people comapred to many in the West, who patronize us on these matters.

Yes, there is racism at some levels but none of the mainstream political parties, Trade Unions, Govt. and other institutions encourage racism. It would be recalled that the leader of the British National Party was not allowed to participate in the Queens Birthday celebrations.

          @Ben
I absolutely agree with you on most of it..
And if this article was on a Brit site i would have said the exact same thing as u have said without a doubt..
Even though i live in the UK i am a patriotic Sri Lankan coz thats my home,, even in british soil i hold my Sri lankan values..
I being a muslim woman & a hijabi have faced racism here & in SL.. But the funny part is when i face racism here i am strong enough to face it, but when i face it back home in SL it breaks my heart because it’s my home, I am Sri Lankan just like any Sri Lankan back home, & thats the only place i will ever consider my home..& being treated like an unwanted step child in ur own home & reasons that you have nothing to do is beyond heartbreaking.. take it from me, being a victim of racism is not even close to funny..
The hope i see for my children is the good people like you who say “no” to racism & injustice..
As for tolerance wise i do have to mention is if an edl rally was held outside my home i still can walk out in my hijab because i still have the feeling of safety coz i know if let alone a person says even a racist comment to me i have the right to sue them & if they even come 3′ close to me or harass i can call the police and action will be taken immediately against them & ensure my safety as a resident..
I cant expect that same level of safety in SL coz if i walk out during a protest in SL, i would be lucky if i come back home in one piece and i know i will not be given justice or security, & even if i call the police for help i know i wont get any..
I was merely talking about the law enforcement system in the british soil & effectiveness of it in providing justice compared to back home..
& its true that there are lot of racism here, but even though majority are whites they still dont give anyone the right to harass people or destroy property in the name of racism..
Coz the sad part is people confuse racism with patriotism & thats the biggest problem all around the world that is the root of the cancer..

take it from someone who is in the uk- the buggers were arrested, and people marched in the streets up north saying “Nazi scum, get off our streets”. I kid you not, google that quote- you’ll see the news articles about it. The majority here don’t like this type of racism: a fundamental difference between us and the UK.

      Absolutely.

NONE remain in custody. Like SL. The monks who threw stones were arrested and released.

A similar thing happened in Australia in 2005 called Cronulla riots where Muslims were attacked. After a few days all offenders were released without charges. But the offending Muslims were punished, some deported and others still behind bars.

I think Recep T. Erdogan, Prime Minister of Turkey once said that there is no moderate or immoderate Islam. Islam is Islam. Muslims succumbed to the hatred towards non-Muslims which proliferate in Islamic texts, on Islamic websites and in Islamic social media. The killer of the innocent British soldier is not alone. There should be a group.
Though Islam is described as a Religion of Peace, but upon a close examination of the following passages in the Koran, one ponders whether Jihadism is imported soon after a Mosque is built in foreign soil.
“Kill the unbelievers wherever you find them.” – Koran 2:191
“Make war on the infidels living in your neighbourhood.” – Koran 9:123
“When opportunity arises, kill the infidels wherever you catch them.” – Koran 9:5
“Any religion other than Islam is not acceptable.” – Koran 3:85
“The Jews and the Christians are perverts; fight them.” – Koran 9:30
“Maim and crucify the infidels if they criticize Islam” – Koran 5:33
“Punish the unbelievers with garments of fire, hooked iron rods, boiling water; melt their skin and bellies.” – Koran 22:19
“The unbelievers are stupid; urge the Muslims to fight them.” – Koran 8:65
“Muslims must not take the infidels as friends.” – Koran 3:28
“Terrorize and behead those who believe in scriptures other than the Qur’an.” – Koran 8:12
“Muslims must muster all weapons to terrorize the infidels.” – Koran 8:60
It appears that the Muslims after receiving the social benefits out of the taxes paid by British citizens, have betrayed the British community with their backward thinking. It is time whether a Muslim marries one or four, social assistance be provided for one only and that too if they are disabled due to old age and sick. Moreover, all monies that are so donated should be channeled through the banks and duly audited by a certified accountant. The contributions made by the Muslims to the British society has been a question mark, given the facts of bombings at London subway and the recent protest staged by Muslims at London showing placards ‘Jihad is the answer’. Naturally drummer Lee Rigly’s friends and the British community will have the feelings of anger against the Muslims after the brutual killing when the innocent young British soldier has not provoked and also when he has loving family. I am of the view that Imams and the Islamic organizations should unequivocally condemn Islamic countries that promote terrorism at regular periods.

      @ citizen
your verses seemed to rehearsed and far too familiar as those who know nothing about islam yet they quote sentences without the source and pretend to know them and ignorant people who don’t go through the trouble to find out just accept it ..
You may have quoted a part of a sentence without reading the beginning or end or connecting the history behind it..
It’s like for example in the pan sil ghaathawa if one chooses to quote the word “SURA” and say ‘self intoxication is acceptable’.. where as in fact it truly says “sura meraya majja pama daththaana veramani siqqapadam samadiyami” which truly means I ‘refrain’ from self intoxication”… there is a fundamental difference in both those elements..
And yes there is no such thing as moderate islam or extremist islam.. there is only islam.. And just because terroists hide behind the cloak of religion doesn’t mean they truly follow it..
I am a very modern muslim, educated and intelligent enough to find out the reality behind the facts myself.. I wouldn’t be following Islam if it was spreading hatred or terrorism in any way…Islam does not under any condition allow to take a life of another whether muslim or non-muslim so these terrorists can’t even justify what they are doing in the name of religion..
And for a fact when they blow up people they bomb doesn’t differentiate between a muslim or non-muslim , a child or woman or old person, so how can they justify that as muslims if they call themselves that? in the quran it states you can only defend your state, your home, your family & all issues to be resolved peacefully & if there ever comes to a circumstance of a war u have to face, u still CANNOT kill a child, an old person, a woman or not even an unarmed soldier..
& it clearly states about how even with non-muslim the importance of keeping good relations with them.. it stresses so much on kindness and hospitality.. never what the media portrays!
If you want to find the real facts go to the source and educate yourself, like I did with buddism.. if I judged Buddhism the way the media portrays it these days I would have had a completely different picture.. we are intelligent enough humanbeings to not take it at face value.. find out from the real source..
“Do not believe in anything simply because you have heard it. Do not believe in anything simply because it is spoken and rumored by many. Do not believe in anything simply because it is found written in your religious books. Do not believe in anything merely on the authority of your teachers and elders. Do not believe in traditions because they have been handed down for many generations. But after observation and analysis, when you find that anything agrees with reason and is conducive to the good and benefit of one and all, then accept it and live up to it.” – Gautama Buddha
So before you just quote sections without knowing, please read and clarify along with other facts leading to that revelation & still use ur head for rational thinking..u will be surprised…
and always be open to a wider thinking coz only a fool would know it all..
      PEACE!

        Dear Faz,
I can understand how you defend Islam. But there is a Saudi writer, Abdullah Mohammad Al Dawood who has urged his followers to sexually molest women hired to work as cashiers. It appears that 97,000 of his followers justify hiscall. How do you account this call with the tenets of Quran? Or is the petro dollar that is speaking? Or is it the new ideology of the Wahhabism? Everything is in a state of confusion.

          @citizen
I understand your point of view coz ofcourse not knowing what it is properly stated, twats like Abdullah Mohammad Al dawood & the 97,000 fools according to the sharia has to be whipped and given severe sentences for even saying such stupid things!.. and For the writer i think should be given a even more severe sentence.. when Islam prohibits any man even touching a woman who is not his wife, and states clearly that a man needs to lower his gaze even when he is around a woman who is not either his mother sister daughter or wife and this is the basics of it, and i really cant even begin to understand how this writer and the 97,000 fools even begin to justify that!! As a muslim i would clearly say those 97001 are severely brain damaged! :)
And Im not being defensive but merely stating the facts.. :)

You quoted from ‘kalama sutta’ what the Buddha preached.I certainly will not easily beleive what we hear about Islam. As such,I would appreciate if you could enlighten the readers the real meanings of what Citizen quoted from quran i.e,

I know about your Prophet Muhammed. He was illiterate, had 11 wives, he married a 9 year old girl (Aisha) when he was 33, he owned at least 40 slaves throughout his lifetime, and he ordered the deaths of 400-600 Jews at Banu Qurayza in a single day.

Mentally challenged? Those who believe that slicing an animal’s throat and waiting for it to slowly bleed to death makes the meat more fit for consumption, are mentally challenged. Those who believe God would reveal “truth” to an illiterate barbarian Bedouin, are mentally challenged.

How some Muslims reacted with Metta –

York Mosque praised for offering EDL protesters tea

A mosque has been praised for serving tea and biscuits to English Defence League supporters after the far-right group arranged a demonstration there.

About six people turned up to protest at the mosque in Bull Lane, York, on Sunday and were invited inside to play football with worshippers.

More than 100 supporters of the mosque had gone there after learning of the planned EDL protest.

Archbishop of York Dr John Sentamu said the mosque’s response was “fantastic”.

He said: “Tea, biscuits, and football are a great and typically Yorkshire combination when it comes to disarming hostile and extremist views.”

Father Tim Jones, who went to the Bull Lane mosque, which is situated in his parish, said: “I’ve always known they were intelligent and compassionate people and I think this has demonstrated the extent to which they are people of courage – certainly physical courage and also a high degree of moral courage.

“I think the world can learn from what happened outside that ramshackle little mosque on Sunday.”

Hull Road ward councillor Neil Barnes said it had been a “proud moment for York”.

He said: “I don’t think I’ll ever forget the day that the York Mosque tackled anger and hatred with peace and warmth – and I won’t forget the sight of a Muslim offering a protester tea and biscuits with absolute sincerity.”

Fears over a demonstration grew after Yorkshire EDL Scarborough Division posted a message on its Facebook page calling for supporters to gather outside the mosque.

Imam Abid Salik said: “We did have a few people who did come to protest but when they came some of the members of the mosque went over and they engaged in a conversation.

“Some people went over with cups of tea and biscuits, they were talking for about 30 or 40 minutes and then they came inside, which was a really, really beautiful thing.”

I’m sure these verses are NOT in Koran.

If they are in, it is a very dangerous threat to mankind. The whole world should get together to eliminate this threat. Israel should take the lead.

But I don’t believe these verses are in the Koran.

“Muslims must muster all weapons to terrorize the infidels.” – Koran 8:60″

    @Dubdoc
I will give you links to clarify the doubts you may be having.. Try “quran Explorer” on google..
And if you like please refer scholars like Mufti Ismail menk on youtube & sahi Buhari for the stories regarding to the revelations and all..
Don’t just type up quran or anything apart from that coz various fake sites crop up and most people are mislead becz of such fake sites because they have been put up by crazy people deliberately to mislead people..
    Hope this helps..
And as for me being a muslim, I am a rational humanbeing and ive grown up with very modern thinking…And i didn’t accept Islam just because i was born into a muslim family and was stamped a muslim.. i studied in a christian school run by the church & then into a complete buddhist only school.. My parents never forced religion on me.. & the myth that muslim women are oppressed is a big NO NO coz I’m educated as well.. i have been brought up with a very broad minded level of thinking ..& people around me who are non-muslims some whom i call family, walk into my home without the slightest bit of hesitation & they for a fact know that i will never let them down at any cost & they know the kind of values i hold towards humanity.. that is because i value humanity beyond everything and thats a result of me following my religion properly.. unlike what u can say about the crazy people out there who is the main focus of the media these days..
I learnt Islam on my own, from proper sources, & If Islam had even an ounce of hatred in it, or said anything word about ever treating another humanbeing badly in any way, & i strongly believe no one has the right to take the life of another..as a rational and intelligent humanbeing i would know better and not follow it if it mentioned anything against the values of humanity.. but it doesnt.. i was lucky enough to learn on my own and clarify through right sources unlike most of these misled people..
I’m always open my mind to a broad a way of thinking.. anything listened with an open mind and broad thinking u get a better level of understanding..
As crazy as it sounds i read a lot about other religions and cultures so i know what they are all about.. and i teach my kids not about religious “tolerance” coz i find the word tolerance quite harsh.. i teach my kids to “accept everyone for who they are”, what they are… adjust.. if you cant understand them.. atleast try, if u still cant try harder.. thats why if anyone asks my kids about they are friends they will only mention that; so & so’s name is, he is 10 yrs, likes cricket etc etc.. they will never mention whether he is black white buddhist muslim.. nothing!… coz it doesnt matter.. faith is there just to guide us to lead a peaceful life never to hurt or undermine another..
I strongly believe the best of people are those who are good humanbeings & who treat others with kindness & respect..
I have a lot of respect for you for actually asking about it rather than just take it at face value and condemning or criticizing .. try those links and if you do have any more questions there are many authentic sites and books too that will answer it..
I am sorry i couldnt clarify this to u myself because when you go into quran explorer and the mufti ismail menks lectures & sahih buhari, you will see why i wasnt able to explain all to u here because of the length of it.. :)anywayz when you read it you will see that the sentence are wrong compared to the verse number..
when u go through quran explorer read before and after that sentence to know what its about.. for example in short: 2:191: this was revealed in the time of a war, when another tribe who were non muslims attacked the muslims & presecuted them & that sentence clearly states that u cannot attack a non muslim even in the place of where we worship(i.e. the mosque) unless he attacks you first..
thats a simple explanation in short..

Thanks. I appreciate your philosophy. If everyone can think like this our country and the whole world will be a better place to live.

    @ Lester
you always seem to amuse me.. :D ur comments don’t even annoy me even a bit.. I truly sympathize with u.. I truly & whole heartedly do.. :)
U said you will state quranic verses etc etc.. I say; bring it on! I would give u the explanation for it all..
But you know & I know that would be of no use since ur intention is not seeking knowledge in order to understand what muslims are about, & why the drama, like the others who genuinely want to know, but your intention is clearly not that but to undermine people..
The quran is not a book where you can take a sentence out of context and quote, as it is a book of history, & u will not understand it unless u read it from the beginning to the end taking the history & events that took place at the time.. I wont blame you because even a muslim will not understand it unless read properly without understanding the history & what that whole era was about in that time..
and as for the “unbelievers” mentioned in the quran.. it isn’t talking about the Buddhist or the hindhus or anything like that.. they are talking about people called the “mushariqeens” .. those are people who follow the path of Allah yet along with other things they worshiped.. & the war they mention in the quran that people quote is regarding the muslims & these people who had the 10 year treaty, which they those people broke in 2 years, & as any humanbeing if war comes to ur doorstep and people attack u, will you sit and watch while they massacre? I very much doubt that! u will defend at any point wouldn’t u? & in that too there were ethics even in war, which u can’t hurt a woman,an old person, a child or not even an un armed soldier..
This is the fundamental problem with people.. they make up their minds up & cause chaos to everyone in society..
There are a lot of misled people in society & lot of people who make use of ignorant people to fulfil their own agenda & that is the route cause in terrorism.. & its there in all cultures.. that’s why there is so many distressing things we see in the news..
& As for animal slaughter, Science has proved that the way meat slaughtered that way causes zero pain to the animal..
And I don’t get your hypocrisy but you should be speaking against slaughtering any sort of animal.. That shows ur intention is not to stop the slaughtering of cows but just to create issues in society amongst people..
& for your info even though i’m muslim I don’t eat any sort of meat.. I think I have the right to talk against animal slaughter in general if I choose becz I truly live by it..
I see from all ur comments ur intentions isn’t to understand but merely cause unease amoungst otherwise a peaceful country.. its sad this mentality of people in either culture or religion is what destroys the peace of our so beautiful country where everyone could live as a family..
Faith is there as a guidance for people to do good, no where does any faith say to destroy or hurt another humanbeing .. its sad people manipulate to fulfil their own selfish agendas..
I will practice my faith & u do urs..
People who say u have to protect Buddhism and justify the rowdy behaviour in Sri Lanka, Lord Buddha, prince siddharatha left his kingdom, his unborn child, his everything to bring peace to humanity & to guide.. & if practiced properly Buddhism or any other religion will not need saving.. it will be protected by itself..
I choose to keep my circle positive.. coz i’m a strong believer of karma..
    Anywayz tc & keep :)
