The United Nations Committee against Torture has today urged Sri Lankan government to establish an independent mechanism to investigate allegations of torture and sexual violence in the “rehabilitation” programme for 12,169 suspected former cadres.
In delivering its concluding observations the committee said that torture was a common practice is Sri Lanka. The Committee also said it was alarmed at the presence of Director of Sri Lanka’s Centre for National Intelligence, Sisira Mendis in Geneva and “deeply regrets” that he and the delegation didn’t answer questions raised with him during the session in Geneva.

These accusations should be addressed full on , they are the leaders of our country , people of the country should matter to them as equally expected.
Punish the culprits what ever crimes committed and move on.
Then only you two will be respected by all communities and the world beyond.
Family and friends bantering should come last these are for short term peace and happiness by the small group who are in the JO.

You separatists keep crying but not a single credible victim has come forward. Asylum seekers are not credible victims or true evidence. Bring Tamils from SL who live in SL to say their stories. Analyst I agree with you.here I share with you what happened to me during Rajapaksa era.After working in Europe for while I have to return to my country due to a urgent family matter.Since I didn’t have much money I applied job started working as Procurement Executive.My procurement were mainly from China & India.After a while I developed good relationship with China.So the Chinese Government invited me in 2010 for their 60th anniversary coincide with factory visits.So I insisted I cannot come but my boss wanted to go their.
At same time there was election fever as I was also responsible for product marketing , during Presidential election Head office & our company were at logger heads.As ploy marketing tactic our company staff supported email campaign to Then General
Fonseka (Now Field Marshal)while Head office supported Mahinda Rajapaksa.This was purely between two companies there was no political inclination.Since I had supported MR to get TelePrompTer from USA since his English is horrible I didn’t worried much thinking no harm will come to me.
Unknown to me my boss had axe to grind with me since I didn’t ask Chinese Gov.invite instead to him (Invitation eventually went to friend of mine senior commission officer who was studying at staff college China).
Soon after election MR got elected Gen. Fonseka got defeated by computer Jilmart.By that time I was fed up with company I left the company since by boss also treated me badly.
No sooner I left the company serious of with hunt began.It was habit of my boss was to bribe SP Anura Senanayaka sometime he even came to office on police mobile car to collect bribes.
So series of wicthhunt begun.When ever I apply for Job I was not prevented be selected.Once I went to interview cops in uniform came & told interview board I am Fonseka supporter not give Job I fell from frying pan to oven.Until January 8 I was ill treated hounded like a dog by MR regime.
But look what happen SDIG Senanayaka nowhe is in prison.Even his sub ordinates ASP Embilipitiya who obstructed me taking up as English lecturer in Kandy was remanded(he was HQI Kegalle).My boss left hastily country.I know there many who harassed me surely karma will take care of them !

Persons personally involved in injustice to citizens, including torture, have been sent to give evidence to the UN Committee on torture !
The Attorney General and the Minister of Justice should have been sent instead.
This may indicate that this government is quite unconcerned about implementing justice to citizens.
Will the president explain why.
Persons in detention have not been indicted for up to 15 years, and verdicts on cases heard have been delayed for up to 14 years.
The Minister of Justice opposes presence of attorneys while arrested citizens are interrogated.
Thus, this is a regime which condones injustice, and is a ‘pariah’ among nations of the world.
Meanwhile,’disciples’ of Lord Buddha behave like common hooligans, and the state is powerless against them.
Shooting deaths of university students are not investigated by the normal processes of law, and are relegated to be considered by a so-called ‘commission’, even which has not yet been appointed.
