Unity Of Muslims In Sri Lanka

By Nishthar Idroos

When there is no enemy within, the enemies outside cannot hurt you.”  ― Winston S. Churchill

“Negative and vicious forces are currently engaged in serious attempts to destroy the unity of Muslims to alter the current political stability, said SLMC Leader and Minister of City Planning and Water Supply, Rauff Hakeem recently. The reference by the veteran Muslim politician could have been directed not only at those orchestrating implied treacheries from within but also perhaps alluding to the notorious ones indulging in traditional sniping, genre characterized by remote-control ploys through agents within executing a well-conceived modus-operandi.

Being a seasoned politician, having countenanced and survived many attempts on his long and illustrious career, he must be weighing in the implications revolving the latest attempt to introduce purported instability. It may be opportune for Mr. Hakeem to re-energize his sense of perspicacity and circumspection in anticipation for another bout of shadow sparing with forces and faces only known to him. He is that kind of guy with a unique sense of style irksome to many and inviting an avalanche of displeasure to an army of detractors.

Minister Rauff Hakeem further said “every party had within its ranks negative forces who subverted party unity and progress from within” “Sinister motives could be defeated only by vigilance, open discussion and harmony among the rank and file” Very reassuring words but not sustainable. It may come as a surprise to the minister, the world has passed that threshold. Betrayal, duplicity, deceit is today very much woven intimately to the fabric. You can never separate or eliminate them. Symptomatic of the times we live. You only have the tools of vigilance and management as available coping techniques. Ofcourse faith to those who have it. Even the most robust rope of loyalty has its price today. I am nether a cynic nor a pessimist but an informed and indomitable realist. Sir Winston S. Churchill’s haunting observation “When there is no enemy within, the enemies outside cannot hurt you.” is indeed true if not prophetic.

Muslims in Sri Lanka would welcome the sentiments expressed by the minister. He had talked about unity – a commodity very much in need for the Muslims. Though negative in context its derivable attributes meaningful. Diluted and diminished Muslim unity is an awesome reality politically for the main two parties of Sri Lanka. Perpetual disunity of the Muslims is to their advantage. They would love to entrench the status-quo, you cannot blame them for that. It’s all about maximizing opportunities for navigation for them. They have in their arsenal alternate antidotes for every discerning need. To those initially obstreperous or to the one readily making his claim. Many lubricating oils had been used in the past to entice an entire salivating species.
These tactics nothing new but an integral and “wholesome” part of the evolving neo universal democracy stridently and subvertingly practiced by third world and first world politicians alike regardless its legality, Democracy though well-meant and assigned benign attributes at its genesis pollutes, contaminates and reeks. The stench today has reached high heavens. Its subtle, scheming and systematic emasculation of the voter only heightens the junk known as representative or participatory democracy. Incidentally Donald Trump is more keen today of building a Trump Tower in every popular city of the world than going ahead with the much-touted wall he so raucously clamored during electioneering.

As one wise guy said “Nations have progressed through bondage to spiritual faith; from spiritual faith to great courage; from courage to liberty; from liberty to abundance; from abundance to selfishness; from selfishness to apathy; from apathy to dependence; from dependence, back into bondage.”

Its interesting Minister Hakeem said what he said. Since the advent of SLMC in the late eighties under the charismatic late leader A H M Ashraff and his untimely death Rahimahullah (may Allah have mercy on him) the party had given birth to bubbly quadruplets twice over through its many libido-rich detractors and dissenters which is certainly not the epitome of unity. A myriad of new political parties sprouted. Each one vocal and vociferous to unite Muslims and firm in working for their upliftment. The reality is they’ve carved their own fortunes whilst being champions of disunity in the process.

This is not something unique to Muslim politicians or Muslim political parties. In essence the worse losers are the majority Sinhala Buddhists. They’ve been reduced to mere numbers, securely kept in data mining repositories. Retrieved just before an election analyzed, extrapolated, imputed and manipulated to evince a favorable outcome. Some over-ambitious politicians in the past had embraced the art of violence by unleashing the mob against minorities just to confirm and comply with an opinion of a trusted Data-Mining expert. This does not in any way mean that these politicians are communal or averse to working in a coalition environment. But one thing it does mean is that man has become distanced, desensitized, diabolical, deranged and distinctly dangerous.

Dividing to seemingly unite, downgrading, undermining and subverting the constituency for one’s own upliftment though a blatant irony and against cherished principles of democracy seems the norm and very much consistent with contemporary values.

Its time Muslim leaders of Sri Lanka made a firm resolve towards unity based on strong Principles. Let’s not forget the Muslims of Sri Lanka did demonstrate historically this spirit. It was their unity that prevented this country from being divided. They paid the ultimate for this in blood and corpses, who can deny this? So why then would Muslim leadership not unite and project the actual and real strength so that none will try to play games next time around.

It’s your own people who connive and betray and it’s your own people who acknowledge and praise. It’s very much within you to earn either. Global political changes and attendant Islamophobia had made it easy for Muslims not just in Sri Lanka but in most countries where Muslims are minorities to be targeted and victimized. The rise of the far left and disgraceful political opportunism too had contributed to this end. No Muslim parliamentarian in Sri Lanka consistently stood out to voice strong opposition during a time Muslims most needed their leadership except for a handful outside of parliament. It was an opportunity missed for the Muslim parliamentarians of Sri Lanka. They could have done a lot with the confidence of the state. The importance of unity can never be overrated, whether its communal unity or national unity.

I started this piece with an excerpt of Sir Winston Churchill and appropriately end with one. “The nation will find it very hard to look up to the leaders who are keeping their ears to the ground”

What is needed is for all Sri Lankan’s to unite as one people to hold our governments, political parties and politicians to account. We have been governed by monkeys that divide us and rule us, for their benefit. When I see their daily antics, I am reminded of the monkey that divided a piece of bread between two feuding cats! The monkey ended up eating all the bread!

Unity has preconditions. Some of them are to respect each other’s dress, food, culture, faith and differences in people. Until such time unity will remain a distant dream.

Beautified is the life of the world for those who disbelieve; they make a jest of the believers. But those who keep their duty to Allah will be above them on the Day of Resurrection. Allah giveth without stint to whom He will. (The Noble Quran 2:212) Mankind were one community, and Allah sent (unto them) prophets as bearers of good tidings and as warners, and revealed therewith the Scripture with the truth that it might judge between mankind concerning that wherein they differed. And only those unto whom (the Scripture) was given differed concerning it, after clear proofs had come unto them, through hatred one of another.

What rubbish. Sinhala Buddhists do not own the country; they might be the majority.

Do you sincerely believe that there is Allah. It is a non-entity which can do nothing in this world. You are dancing to the tune of a stupid man called Mohamed who claimed that he heard Allah revealing Koran to him. How can Allah be the creator when he did not know that earth was not flat. Historically the first recorded schizophrenic is this man called Mohamed who suffered auditory hallucination and this psychotic manifestation is what is called Islam. Muslims shout Allahhu Akbar but are getting shot dead like dogs. This proves that Allah is a powerless creature. The so called Koran which speaks of Allah needs to be dumped into the dustbin.

A good example why Unity in Sri Lanka will be a distant dream. It does not make the slightest dent to Muslims of your opinions. In just 14 hundred years Islam has grown exponentially, not because of Muslims it’s because people of intellect seek Allah and the purpose of their life. Unfortunately, not all Humans have the capacity to recognise the marvels / precision of the Universe. However, the Noble Quran is the guide to humanity whether we like it or not. Allah did not create us and leave us be. He did send down Scriptures and Prophets to mankind as a mercy and will take us to account all our actions.

You should be ashamed of Islam which tells you to treat non believers as infidels, to kill them and destroy their places of worship. Which other religion tells its followers to commit such dastardly acts. It is natural when you follow what a mad man says, you also become a lunatic. Look at the way Islamic extremists are behaving, which is due to the influence of being brain washed by insane teachings of the Koran. It is obvious that Allah is impotent and is helplessly watching Muslims being treated like dogs and slaughtered like pigs by the supreme beings in the world. If you are honest, dump Islam and embrace any one of the other religions.

There is no point in discussing Islam with a victim of media propaganda. Islam is not simply a set of propositions and actions, a list of beliefs and rituals. Islam unlocks the nature of reality for us, and then provides us a way to live in accordance with that reality. Authentic Islam offers us a metaphysics, which tells us what is real and therefore possible, but also an ethics and aesthetics, which tells us what is good among those possibilities. Moreover, Islam provides not only verbal abstractions, but also a concrete embodiment of them. In Islam, the embodiment of the metaphysics and ethics of the Noble Quran is the Prophet (pbuh) and his way of life, his sunnah (statements), which is then transmitted through the ummah (nation) in a multitude of manifestations.

Every soul will taste of death. And ye will be paid on the Day of Resurrection only that which ye have fairly earned. Whoso is removed from the Fire and is made to enter paradise, he indeed is triumphant. The life of this world is but comfort of illusion. (The Noble Quran 3:185)

As for the Disbelievers, Whether thou warn them or thou warn them not it is all one for them; they believe not. (The Noble Quran 2:6) Allah hath sealed their hearing and their hearts, and on their eyes there is a covering. Theirs will be an awful doom. (The Noble Quran 2:7)

If YOU refuse to see the bright side of the message of Islam then don’t blame Islam for your ignorance. Islam thrives on propaganda.

RE: Unity Of Muslims In Sri Lanka

      Actually there two parts:

      1. Unity Of the People of In Sri Lanka, the Land of Native Veddah Aethho.

Unfortunately, the politicians and abs Communists have managed to create disunity among the People of In Sri Lanka, since independence, evem disenfranchising a segment of the population.

      2. Unity Of Muslims In Sri Lanka, the Land of Native Veddah Aethho.

This has been achieved by the Wahhabites, the Wahhabies, Saladfies ad their clones, Tawheed, IS*S, SO, Taliban. Boko-Hartam. Deobandi etc, courtesy of Wahhabi-Salafi Saudi Arabia that follow Satan, Iblos, Devil.

Are the Sri Lankan Muslims that Stupid? Do they thin following Satan, Sahytan, is a virtue? Have they heard about the Hadith of Najd? D they still believe that the Earth is laid out like a carpet, and that the Sun goes around the Earth? Do they believe that stupidity is a virtue? Have they heard anout the Islamic Scholar and polymath Ibn Rushd, Averroes?

This unity business is much over rated – given the evil in most people, I get worried when they shout about it unity – much better when all the rascals are disunited and throw their slogans into he wind.

Unity has often been the cry of war mongers and rabble rousers – for others it is a no brainer.

At best, unity should be for a purpose we can assess carefully before we decide to join whatever gang that is asking for it and then for that purpose only.

Just asking people to be united under one description or another is bigotry and chauvinist.

As one good man once sai, do not join the multitude to do evil – that is what the multiyude usually unites to do!
        I
I am addressing this comment to you only because I have seen you most of the time as a champion of happy disunity.

“I am addressing this comment to you only because I have seen you most of the time as a champion of happy disunity.”

I am not quite sure what you really meant here. However, I interpreted as the current leadership is happy with disunity because that allows them to stay in power for ever, and show their hegemony, because disunity keeps them in place.

If the people united, there is very little need for political and religious leaders.

Please read up on the series by Dr. Laksiri Fernando on Thomas More on Utopia in CT.

            no amare, you are wrong

this lot are leaders only because of the united mobs that send them in again and again.

“If the people united, there is very little need for political and religious leaders.”

Horror of horrors – under what banner do you dream of them uniting?

Good old aristu said the sin of Plato was that he wanted everyone to march to the same tune – that was why Plato is counted among the enemies of open society.

I called you a champion of disunity because I thought – maybe I am wrong – you laugh at everyone except the veddhas who don’t really exist except as snake oil sellers nowadays. Because of you and the native, the other day I bought from them sugar dissolved in dirty water as honey at 2000 rupees a bottle. Do you get any share of these profits?

long live disunity and cheers to you

No. It must be a Para dressed up as a Native Veddah Aethho, because the Paras are dishonorable and liars, like their politicians, monks etc. in the land of Native Veddah Aethho. You do not have to believe the lies and imaginations in Mahawamsa, that is an insult to the Buddha.

Remember, this is the Land of Native Veddah Aethho, stolen by the Paras, Para-Sinhala, Para-Tamils, Para-Muslims etc.

Muslim unity in SL. Thanks for showing us our shortcomings. In addition, the Muslim unity I know and understand stems from the follows:

Islam considers all Muslims to be one Ummah (family), a community whose basis is faith and common objectives and among all its constituent units. There also exists a deeper unity which does not allow the differences of region, race, language and nation to disrupt and disintegrate it. Noble Qur’an declares: Surely this community of yours is one community (Ummah), and I am your Lord, therefore serve Me. (21:92)

According to the above verse, Muslims are identified as one Ummah, as parts of which they move towards a common goal, strive to realize their common objectives, worship one and the only God – Allah.

In many traditions Muslims are described as one body and different units of the Muslim Ummah are regarded as the organs of a single body. A few of the traditions are quoted here in order to explain the point.

Abu Said narrates from Holy Prophet Muhammad (pbuh) that he said, “A believer’s relationship to other believers is like that of the different parts of a structure, each of which supports the other.”

Holy Prophet Muhammad (pbuh) said: “A believer with respect to other believers is related like the head is related to the body. A believer feels the pain of other believers as the head feels the pain of the body.”

All these traditions lead us to the conclusion that all Muslims are brothers and sisters and are like a single body, and therefore can/should never be indifferent towards one another. Among them should prevail the spirit of cooperation, brotherhood, fraternity, goodwill, love, sympathy and unity of direction and purpose, and they should be always united for the defense of their faith and the Muslim Ummah.

This unity can truly be witnessed during the Hadj pilgrimage which is a unifying factor for all Muslims from around the world. Dress the same, pray the same and enact the rituals in the same way. But I know this goes beyond the point, since we are talking only about Muslim unity in our own country SL. So will leave it at that.

It appears to be the case that the author has just woken up and begun to smell the ‘attar’ (perfume).

However, the fact remains that the need for unity was felt decades ago. And despite many valiant efforts to achieve unity, it still remains a distant dream and it always will. There are powerful forces outside and within the local community who will resist any serious attempt to unify the Muslims to satisfy their own selfish agendas.

What is required at this point in time is not for reams of articles explaining the need for unity, but for identifying pragmatic ways and means of achieving it.

When you write about “enemies of Muslims” I would like to take you back to Quran. It states that a person who is a pagan is an enemy of Muslims. This is the very basis for pronuncements of Jihad in Quran.

This is the reason for the slaughter of Christians, and justification of it, by the barbaric ISIS.

Surely, time is ripe for Muslims to rethink their dogma, and to include love, care, peace and goodness, for the well being of all the people, regardless of their faith.

Sarwan – this is a broken record , contexualize the entire Verse and do not take out of context ,or else tell me what faith you belong to so I can show you how much of out of the context I too can do.

The whole problem is people are such google veterans, who google all day long to fulffil thier dirty ,filty heart of hatredness ,now do not come to teach other, care, peace and goodness , everyone is guilty in sameway or other in using each of thier beliefs to justify thier hate.

You need to not just read a book of religion , you need to study it ,and to do so first you must cleanse the filth in your hearts .

The Quran has in it verses that refers to different times , and the final Epilogue of the entire message in the Quran is this , I will not serve/worship what you want to and you will not serve/worship what I want to and I will never serve/worship what you want to, to you be your religion /your ways and to me be mine , period- subject closed . all that happened before was simply reacting to every action ,self defence and justice , but when the final victory was gained , the seal was set. and let there be no compulsion in religion..

If you do not understand or do not wish to understand the politicalization of islam and all other religions , no point in even wasting time with you.

What you see now is Political Islam with a huge agenda and the beast is none other than Money !

      LANKA NITIZEN

Does it matter to any one what is the next person’s faith? It appears to matter to you because of Jihadism preached in Quoran.

You are wrong assuming that I am a “Google veteran”. And dont cover up shortcomings and hatred shown in Quoran saying “ëveryone is guilty in same way”.

The “filth in your heart” comes from the filth one reads, hears and chooses to practice from them. Not by your effort.

Quoran in its first chapter says Allah is most merciful and most gracious but it contradicts when it permits the chopping off of the hands of person if he steals. Where is mercy in this religiously prescribed action in Islam?

Mohamed himself in his last chapters accepted that Satan deceived him in early chapters. These are called “Satanic Verses”, a book written by Salman Rushdie.

No one wants to “serve/worship…..and to me be mine”.

But the point is what is the truth. Surely, those who believe in their self reasoning, arguments and logic; without the involvement of the supernatural, have lost their way of life

As a person Rauf Hakeem is a mild mannered nice guy, but as a leader, he is hardly anything and haven’t done anything to the community in general in the last 20 years, except maybe something for the eastern province; compared to his predecessor Ashraf or other past leaders like Razeek Fareed, or Bathiudin Mahmoud he is not even a Lilliputian. For that matter ACS Hameed can be considered a much a better representative for the community.

One cannot expect unity to happen without working for it. Leaders should have a larger than life attitude and should put country and community before themselves.

He need to accept the fact that he doesn’t possess any leadership qualities and hence should handover to someone who could benefit the community and the country

    • 3
      4

Sir Razeek Fareed and Bathiudin Mahmoud are two nasty evil men who sided with Sinhalese racists to marginalise the island’s Tamils for a few crumbs from for the Muslims. The latter introduced standardisation to deliberately prevent Tamils from entering higher education, so that far less qualified Muslims can Sinhalese can enter university. You call this great! Shows what sort of person you are. It is these two men who are greatly responsible for the discord between Tamil Muslims and other Tamils in the island. Denial of higher education and employment to Tamil Youth by standardisation, that was introduced by Shaitan Bathiudin Mahmoud was one of the majoir factors for the formation of the LTTE and the war. Many enraged and disillusioned Tamil youth from poor and middles class families seeing no other way joined these groups. Sir Razeek Fareed started this and Bathiudeen Mahmoud continued this anti Tamil dance, just for petty gains and this man calls them great. Shows the nasty third rate mindset of most Sri Lankan Muslims, backstab their fellow non Muslim Tamils for their petty advantage.
Muslims are follows of Islam which is a religion. All religions. not just Islam states that followers of their religion belong to one family but in reality they aren’t, as they belong to various sects races linguistic groups and fight amongst each other, as now seen in the rest of the world. Just because the Muslims in Sri Lanka all belong to one sect ethnicity and language it is easy for them to preach this but it does not work in countries like Iraq, Syria Pakistan Indonesia Malaysia and many other Muslim countries, as the population is very diverse.
Just look at the author of this article like 99% of the Muslims in the island he looks like some low caste Adi Dravidian Indian Tamil

Rauf Hakeem and Rishad Bathiuddin are two of the most corrupt, most extremikst politicians. Govt is silent on them. I cannot understand why.

the important thing is buddhists have to organize against the sinhala politicians who support these muslims extremists.

During Asrof time, lots of Buddhist archaeological sites were bulldozed to the ground. He was the fathered the Muslim extremism in Sri Lanka. If Muslims believe that they are having a tough time in Sri Lanka, it’s because of Asrof’s shenanigans.

If there is a disunity among Muslim leaders, then, it’s because, they are unable to share the looting equally among them self.

Willpattu eating/destroying politician is one of the richest in Sri Lanka, his family said to own more than 5000 acres, the houses that he has built for never existed IDPs are in bad quality, his henchmen also don’t want to live in those house.

Rauff Hakeem is a disaster not just for the community he claims to represent , the Party he leads and for himself as an individual himself.Beyond his greesy, empty smile he has nothing to offer the community. His record is Zero when compared to charismatic leaders like Dr.Bathudeen Mahmud , the legendary Sir Razik Fareed and even the Lilliputian Ashroff etc.

There is one however one area where the Hon Rauff Hakeem puts all these legends to shame and reduces them to nothing and that is his skills as a Casanova.Just ask the ghost of Kumari COORAY who committed suicide right opposite Father in Law Qudduses Carnival Ice cream parlour in the heart of Colombo 3 after been put into carnal use by the Honourable Hakeem. No one commits suicide just to accuse some one of a misdemeanour. It is only when one feels ruined for example that suicide becomes the only way out and that is what happened to poor Ms COORAY a shapely damsel who was swept off her feet by the Hon Hakeem. His “conquests ” are legendary when you look into the sheer numbers !

So I vehemently disagree with those gentle people in regard to their worthy comments.who in his or her right mind could ever say that the Hon. Al Haj Rauff Hakkem has no skills? Come on give the man some recognition for his displayed skills!!Way to go Rauff boy , way to go..By the way he goes on Umrah and Haj very regularly too.See what a perfect balance the Hon. Rauff Hakkem could strike by balancing his carnal desires and religious obligations. If this is not skill, pray tell us what is.

We are talking about Muslim leaders who benefited the Muslim and not Tamils, Razeek Fareed and Bathiudeen did great service to the Muslims, there aren’t any Tamil leaders who did anything for the muslims, so don’t confuce it with your usual anti Muslim racist hatred to comment without checking the subject matter discussed

So called Tamil leaders such as Sir Ponnayan Ramanathan and Arunachalam did their best to keep the Muslim away from education so that Tamils could fill those vacancies too.But Muslims leaders realizing the Nasty Tamil plan did much with the help of people like CWW Kanangara to bring Muslims into education and now the community is thriving. Why are these Tamils complaining when Muslims who have assumed their rightful place?Dont be jealous.Decending from Arabia the Moors/Muslims are a distinct community .Ofcourse some early Muslims put a jump on dark skinned Brahmin and Vellalar girls so some Tamils are fair skinned but is another story.

Your reasoning does not hold water. It reeks of small mindedness and ignorance and racial bias.
Get your family genome done. It will educate you; that we all originated from “black” Africa.

What ever you people utter the truth is: little by little believers will leave this religion. The teachings of the Koran is against the humanity and the well being of the flora and fauna. When the young Muslims access to higher education no body could block them realizing the truth.Once they realize that the teachings of the Koran are primitive and unacceptable there wont be any unity.I think one’s religion should be extremely personal thing but Muslims are too much and they have become a cancer in the world.Even in Sri Lanka they are destroying the flora and fauna and only concern how to increase their percentage. And mosques are being built everywhere and we feel like the country is being invaded. They pay high rental and and offer high value and little by little they invade the lands of the Sinhalese and Tamils.Funds are being pumped from the middle east and other organizations. What ever they do I feel it’s just like a flame that is about to vanish.

Well written comrade Idroos. Although I do not agree with some of your comments, we are not the left to smear racial hatred on our dear brothers and other faiths. Without the vote of our Muslim brothers and their communities unity, no party could win. They have and always been the king maker whether people agree or not. And all this attempts to scuttle this disunity is at play.

      @Vipul
Did you get your IDIOTIC facts from the STUPIDEST CLOWN in politics today like the US-president elect Donald Trump and his GOP fake news factories?
Read the article first before shooting hatred. This article is about unity of Muslim politicians answerable to their community. When I read the comments from our “buwa” brothers and see these kind of vitriol, our hope for reconciliation or national unity is near IMPOSSIBLE! Shame on bigots like you.

You can’t have a proper reconciliation or unity or what ever as long as you try to high light bloody minority rights. It’s better to thinks as Ceylonese and make your bloody religion extremely personal thing. And tell your leaders to work for the country not to build mosques and villages cutting down trees. You Muslims have become a cancer to the entire world.

The writer has fooled everybody by putting a quote from Hakeem out of context. My understanding is Hakeem used that meeting to attack his opponents and give warning of destruction, who protests his leadership. Hakeem was accused for long time of stabbing on the back anybody coming on his path irrelevant of friend or foe. This racist, by his anti-women feeling, artfully did it to avoid woman leadership of SLMC. This undercutting has been praised by writer as best trait of Hakeem. There Hakeem said like this MMDA change resisters “Don’t be fools, let them Change MMDA a little bit, or you will lose it completely and beyond”. That is how he advocates women’s rights.

When an Aluthgama riot was going, Hakeem avoided going there. When Ashmin went there they asked where Pirapaharan was. They were that desperate. But they managed to save murder evidences. DIG Indran tried to save Muslims, when lots of Muslim defense officials were supporting Brother Prince.Indran was punished by Brother Prince. When everything was over and safe, feeling time to play politics Hakeem went there, took all the evidences and hid them to save Brother Prince. Such a heinous person he is. He had no regard for those who fought to save Muslims. He behaved exactly the same way when CJ Shiranee was dismissed while he was the Justice Minister.

Hakeem’s fight is with Rishard and Kashan Ali. Rowdy Rishad was stabbed on the back and put out of SLMC, by Hakeem. The writer is accusing that Rishard has been amassing wealth. Ali was real underdog badly suppressed by Hakeem. Now, Hakeem wants their support if TNA ask for secular Federal Units, he wants to demand Muslims extremist Separate Unit. That is how he plans to destroy Sinhala Government changing the constitution.
