UNP And TNL: Spitting On The Judiciary While Venerating It

By Grusha Andrews

The seven member bench has given their verdict. The crackers have gone off shuttering the air. Ajith P Perera and Hirunika have opined reminding us of our political poverty. Signaling the rise of the new kleptocracy, Ravi Karunanayake The Innocent, UNP’s ‘soft Baby Back Bencher’ who has no clue where the house he lived in materialized from, has made a comeback. He was the first to emerge from the courts complex yesterday to hail the independent judiciary.

Sajith Premadasa has now emerged as the intellectual messiah of the UNP. Since two days he refers to Maithrilpala Sirisena as “Srimath” (“Sir”). There was a Big Premadasa calling himself “Srimath”, sitting on a custom made throne before the era of this Little Premadasa. Prior to the current political windfall Sajith was sitting on a Nilkamal chair playing a game called “Tall for security- short for laborer”? All these faces remind us of the doom that we await.

Dear readers, savor the Supreme Court verdict today. Because tomorrow is another day.

This victory will be your victory till tomorrow. Tomorrow the UNP will claim this to be their victory alone. They will build their new kleptocracy with wheeler dealers like Ravi Karunanayake, Wijeyadasa Rajapakshe, Wasantha Senanayake and  Rajitha Senaratne to enthrone them, justifying themselves through the court verdict.

The Rajapskas Will Be Punished : Never

Even if a new government will be formed under the UNP in due course, the Rajapaksas will never be brought to rule. Thajudeen will be buried 12 feet under along with the tears of his parents who die a thousand deaths. Shiranthi Rajapaksa, who is connected to this murder will never stay a single day in a prison cell. The only person who emerged victorious from this shameless Yahapalana regime is Hiruniika, the daughter of Bharatha Laxman Premachandra who died causing the death of a man in the rival gang. We are made to forget that another man died in this confrontation.

In their three year rule so far, the Yahapalana government has not shown any real respect for the law, public administration nor rule of law. Although they lay claim to the “Good Governance We Gave You!”, if not for Maithripala Sirisena there would be no independent judiciary, 19th Amendment or Right to Information Act.

Tomorrow, the UNP will claim the court verdict. The people will be soon removed from the mega hall of the Temple Trees that will be cleaned to five star standards. If Chathura Senaratne wishes to marry there again there will be no one to stop him. Because tomorrow, the most corrupt Rajitha Senaratne will be most powerful .The supporters of the UNP and the citizens who protected the UNP for good 50 days will be forgotten. Because in the anatomy of the UNP runs the despotic, unruly, corrupt blood.

Perhaps till their mega rally at the Galle Face finishes on the 17th, the UNP might treat us all humans. But never, ever will the UNP deliver us from political suppression.

Fleas Of A Kleptocracy

On 26th October 2018 the greatest betrayal of  the peoples’ mandate occurred. Honestly, none of us, not even the vast majority of politicians knew of the coup. It shattered our sense of decency. From that day on,  for a full week, I wrote an article a day, resisting this act of indecency. I attended each and every street protest, rain or shine during the last 50 days.

I who did all that am penning this harsh article because of the TV Program I accidentally stumbled in to on the 9th of December on TNL TV. One day prior to the crucial judgment on the dissolution of the parliament 10th of December (later the day of judgment was postponed to the 13th of December), TNL, the only TV channel to platform the views of the UNP and the democratic forces telecast a program called Janahanda on the constitutional crisis. TNL TV is owned by Shan Wickremesinghe, brother of Ranil Wickremesinghe. I was stunned to note that the man sitting to the left of Sunil Watawala, representing the JVP, was the fake director of Sri Jayewardenepura General Hospital (SJGH) (Dr?) Susitha Senaratne! Susitha Senaratne is a condemned individual infamous for holding an illegal appointment of Director SJGH by political force since 2015. Majority of the mainstream newspapers, alternate media such a Ravaya, websites such as the Colombo Telegraph have all repeatedly exposed the illegal occupation of the post by this man without as much a letter of appointment. Susitha Senaratne is nothing but a flea latched on to the mega political hound dog Rajitha Senaratne. The auditor general of Sri Lanka and the COPE have both called out this act of irregularity and Susitha Senaratne has survived with the blessing of Rajitha Senaratne and three consecutive and corrupt Secretaries of the Ministry of Health.

How do you like the media ethics of Shan Wickremesinghe? Do you think they will do decent politics tomorrow?

Dear readers, brace yourselves. And don’t forget savor the Supreme Court decision while you can because tomorrow hound dogs like Rajitha and their pups like Chathura, complete with the fleas like Susitha Senaratne are due to emerge .

This Is Just One Example

Following this TV program I went back and read all the articles on Colombo Telegraph related to Susitha Senaratne. This condemned doctor is simply a man who parachuted in to the UNP political scenes. He contributed to the corruption of Rajitha Senaratne. He hobnobbed with politicians such as Patali Champika Ranawaka and other powerful politicians. He made sure he posed with politicians in selfies and photos wherever he went. Basically he played the role of the backyard dog who loiters. Without a single professional or academic qualification he got himself “appointed” Director SJGH, has continued to occupy. He has survived without an administrative or legal basis to do so, for 3 years.

Dear Readers, who does this man remind you of?

Reminds you of Mahinda Rajapaksa, doesn’t he?

Didn’t Mahinda Rajapaksa “assume duties” on the 26th of October, the same way?

Two employees of SJGH who have challenged the appointment of Susitha Senaratne in the court of appeal. It is a twist of fate that the same judges, namely Justice Surasena and Justice Obeysekera who suspended the premiership of Mahinda Rajapaksa suspended the attendance of Susitha Senaratne at the SJGH Board in an interim verdict recognizing that Senaratne was not qualified to hold his office. However, Athula Kahandaliyanage, the Chairman of SJGH, an indiscriminate stooge of anyone political be it Ranil- Maithripala, Mahinda –Rajitha bungled the implementation of the court order, in contempt.

It is THIS Susitha Senaratne who is contempt of the court presided by Justice Surasena and Justice Obeysekera who was brought in by Shan Wickremesinghe to criticize Mahinda Rajapaksa! The SAME Susitha Senaratne, suspended at the SAME Court of Appeal before the SAME judges was ushered in to insult Mahinda Rajapakse who was suspended at the SAME court by the SAME judges! Talk about bringing in the kettle to call the pot black.

How do you now like the “respect” the UNP has for the judiciary?

Throughout the program Susitha Senaratne brags and brags like a child.  It’s almost as if he single handedly appointed the President and the PM! He boasts that he was the protector of the President’s former residence on the eve of the Presidential election. He must imagine that the viewers are donkeys. Partaking in this brand of politics is explicitly forbidden to a government servant of his designation. Did the acting Chairman of SJGH Dr Anil Jasinghe authorize this appearance where Senaratne was introduced as the Director of SJGH? Did the SLMC authorize this appearance where he was also introduced as a representative of the SLMC?

Dear Readers, see where the UNP places a corrupt rogue. How to you like the morals of the UNP?

All I want to know is whether Shan Wickremesinghe’s TLN is any better than Derana and Hiru TV?

By featuring this man trying to teach the law to the same judiciary that suspended him, the UNP and TNL have insulted the judiciary. God help democracy, will of the people and the independent judiciary under the UNP!

This is but one example.

This is the nature of the UNP. The UNP no longer has space for democracy or decency. This flea called Susitha Senaratne is a parasite of Shan Wickremesinghe and the UNP.

Is this then the “culture” of the UNP? They should be ashamed. As much as stooges like Shiral Lakthilake brought doom to Maithripala Sirisena, similar parasites like Susitha Senarate will spell doom for the likes of Ranil and Rajitha who do not realize this in their state of ecstasy. Susitha Senaratne is an insignificant flea for now. But a flee feeds on blood.

JVP, Anura, Wake Up!!!

The most laughable behavior was of Sunil Watawala representing the JVP at this program. Repeatedly referring to documents from the Petroleum Corporation, he kept calling a wannabe appointee as a “lap dog” of Mahinda Rajapaksa. Didn’t he know that the man sitting next to him, Susitha Senarante was the ultimate lap dog of Rajitha Senaratne? Didn’t he know that this lap dog has unjustly caused the interdiction of two JVP activists, resulting, in tern his own suspension of his attendance at the SJGH board by the Court of Appeal? Doesn’t the JVP , a party with iron discipline enquire in to who the panelists are when sending their representative to a TV program?

We can understand how the UNP sent this corrupt and condemned man to this program. After all it is the same UNP who ensured the safe passage of the greatest bond scammer in our history Arjun Mahendran to Singapore. UNP is the party of the corrupt. So we understand.

But what about the JVP? What pact does Anura Kumara Dissanayake have with the TNL to feature their representative alongside Susitha Senarante to buttress his reputation as a soldier for democracy? What is the motive behind Sunil Watawala sharing the same media platform with Susitha Senaratne on TV when Senaratne’s corrupt caliber is well known? On what ethical ground has Watawala done this?

Anura Kumara Dissanayake, if you have no answers to my questions, you better wake up, man! Wake up and educate innocent political babe Sunil Watawala that if you sleep with the dogs you wake up with the fleas. If you are also unaware of that saying recite it like a mantra to yourself!

I repeat.

Dear readers, savor yesterday’s Supreme Court verdict to your heart’s content. Because after the 17th a great kleptocracy made up of criminals such as these is due to fall on your heads.

We agree with all, or most, of what you have written Grusha, but when we are given two evils and asked to choose one, we will vote for the lesser evil, isn’t it.

Are you saying a new political force is required. If you will be happy to hear about a political movement to be announced on 18th at a press conference at Sri Lanka Foundation institute at 9.30

      Grusha,
You should not get so over-wrought about minor matters.
“TNL TV is owned by Shan Wickremesinghe, brother of Ranil Wickremesinghe. “
Yes, and the Daily Mirror is owned by his uncle. Neither TNL or the Daily Mirror are UNP organs. Ranil himself has criticized the DM editor.I am sure you wouldn’t want to be held responsible for your own sibling’s politics? TV stations don’t have to operate according to the oh-so-superior moral scruples that you prescribe. In that case, no politician would get invited to a talk show. Expanding further, even CT would be a boring place if they followed your rules.
“if not for Maithripala Sirisena there would be no independent judiciary, 19th Amendment or Right to Information Act. “
Now, THAT is a pretty weird statement. If Maithri knew so much about the 19th A, why the hell did he try to roll it back on Oct. 26th and later? The fact is that he was installed by the UNP as a pliable dummy, but the dummy suddenly realized the benefits of hanging onto power for a few years more. And since we are all about qualifications now, what do you think of this Gamarala’s mental qualifications fot the office?

Dear Sir, Yes, I know about this movement. Have been informed, will be there. Thank you. In solidarity,

First and foremost, I presume this piece has been written in Sinhala and translated into English. the writer’s command of the English language is not fit for the Colombo Telegraph. Probably he should confine himself to the Sinhala media.
Why! I say this is that those who write in English would have read 10,000 times more books than what the writer would have read in Snhala. That is a rough equation that I place on the vast difference we have of what the languages of Sinhala & English could offer.
Second there is no flow in what has been written (In English), and the writer is just trying to pile scorn on one, two or more individuals. I have nothing personal with with any of those mentioned neither have I met anyone of them. BUT if the writer is trying to attack them, and has information that could be proved in a court of law, he should file action in any of the courts in Sri Lanka and prove the facts and have them convicted.
If not writing to the CT will neither help him nor our country at large. If he takes them to task probably he would be respected, like what happened yesterday. RW and 121 others went to the SC in SL and petitioned it about MY3’s Friday night tryst with MR. They won a historical judgement from the SC, and now MY3, is just like that proverbial cat, that S..T on the hot tin roof.
If MY3 had an iota of self respect, not as a westerner (he equated RW to be one who has such interests) but as a true Sinhalaya from Rajarata he should resign and as he himself said, go back and become the Gamarala that he is. That would at least extricate him from the mess that he has placed his country, and our’s too in this present predicament.

Rubbish.Whether it is a translation or otherwise surely all who at least have a working knowledge of English-language can very well grasp what the writing is about. It is certainly better than what that pseudo intellectual DJ often writes
This is a timely reminder to all of us

A pertinent and very timely warning by Gurusha Andrews. While MR & MS should take the responsibility for the current mess the country is in, Ranil and his clan should also take the responsibility for the Bind scam, still molly coddling the corrupt Ravi Karunanayake , not taking forward with sincerity the prosecution of MR and family with the hope that by keeping Mahinda in, he can keep the SLFP split and thus achieve his ambition of being the next President, a great position for a person who has lost innumerable elections as a leader of UNP and still unashamedly clinging to it.
The corrupt and who associate with the corrupt do not become saints overnight-court verdict or not!– Be warned and don’t let your guards down and taken for a ride in the name of restoration of democracy!!

Very true. UNP behaves like they all are lily-white.
People will not give up. Sooner or later, they will take all these culprits by their ear, recover the money they stole and put them in jail.

Grusha, Thank you for a honest and on your face writing. I have to admit in the beginning I was sceptical thinking you were just another Lankan wanna be going after individuals. But with more of your writings I see a genuine person who is willing to give the hard facts as the way you see it. These criminals though they speak from different platforms , have been together at different times. If not, outside of parties they have unholy alliance. Most of them either have been in two or more parties UNP,SLFP,JO or SLPP . JVP ,s past record is not great and not easy to get rid . So we are looking at the same old actors now playing different roles. Then we have the public who keeps saying lets forget and forgive???? This is what in MR,s language is known as “adjustments”.Sorry to say a criminal is a criminal and people do not make adjustments with them. Now people say that Eva is a good person just because of her judgement. Does it make her a Mother Theresa???? This is the reason our politicians take things for granted and think they could do anything and get away with it. Remember Trump,s words before election that “he could shoot anyone in day light in Park Avenue and get away with it????

    Dear AshyD,
    .
You happen to be right about this having first appeared in Sinhalese:
    .
    https://www.colombotelegraph.com/index.php/grusha-andrews-14-december-2018/
    .
I’ve made so many comments today (some of them probably not submitted because I was working on two or three simultaneously; as a result, I seem to have closed tabs without saving). I haven’t yet read the whole of this article; will do so.
    .
I found your statement about Grusha’s English astounding because although she’s burst on us fairly recently, she has impressed most regular readers as being an extremely sophisticated user of English. The first third or so of this article that I have read, does indeed justify what you say because Grusha has translated this in a hurry, and there are a few typos. You, too, have made a few mistakes. Want me to point them out?
    .
I haven’t read the Sinhala version at all because I think that I read faster and more fluently in English than in Sinhalese. Besides the point. One uses language to communicate. The crying need is to get our messages across to the 90% of Sri Lankans who are more fluent in their Swabasha (be it Sinhalese or Tamil) than in this language introduced by our one time colonial masters.
    .
My3 has been a deep disappointment to people like me who reposed a great deal of faith in him. Please look at the many other articles that have appeared today. In some comments I know that I pleaded mea culpa on behalf of other English speakers who have driven this villager with simple village values mad. I’m not excusing his treachery; he’s a mature man who cannot dodge culpability for the wrongs that he has perpetrated.
    .
As for you, Ashy, the sooner we deport guys like you the better.
    .

It is doubtful whether the article actually was written by Grusha or someone else’s production as it has completely lost 1) in serious grammatical errors 2) in it’s objective & depth… People did not fight or argue for UNP or Ranil but for the breakdown of the system that was established in 2015 having gone through an extremely painful 10 years under Rajapaksha rule… this episode confirms that the long lost independence of the Judiciary is at last here to stay…one need not give credit for MS for that as he was voted in for the highest position of the Country on those promises for 5 years by the people for the purpose of implementing same. Rajapakshas corrupted ..knotted and ruined the lives in all spheres of a generation of this country and it would take another 5 – 10 years to come out of it… What happened in the TNL is that at least for once.. What about DERANA..? from the day 1 of the coup they were justifying the action of MS became constitutional experts for the love of MR… SIRASA is anti Ranil and everyone knows the reason… All print media are anti Ranil…these are oligarchies of the Corrupt MR regime… Just think why MS shotdown TNL after the Local Govt elections…

I say, Grusha, Old Chap excellent portrayal of what is to come.
Directly stated in Sinhalese would sound insulting like – “Aiyse, Grusha, Nakiya …….”.
I am in total agreement with you on the facts stated. Namely, that there are many bad eggs in the basket of Parliamentarians who employ parasites to do their dirty work. The Shiral Lakthilake(s’), the Susitha Senaratne(s’) as well as the Gammanpillai(s’), the Dayan(s’), The Sirisena(?s’) all fit into this category – All expendables, to these rotten eggs.
The brown eggs in this basket gave us a display on how rotten they are at the well of the house when the NCM was called for; The White eggs will in time show us how equally bad they stink, in and out of Parliament.
Knowing this, recently having experienced a bit of respite via the Judiciary, we the People should demand for accountability from the good and bad eggs in Parliament. That is, they take responsibility for the people they appoint. Should a Sirisena, Rajapakse or Wickremasinghe take the mantle and appoint people – they should be held responsible for the failures of the so – appointed and forced to resign.
In such a scenario, the bad eggs will not last long in Parliament and we will be blessed with a continuous supply of fresh eggs!
    People willing!

“All I want to know is whether Shan Wickremesinghe’s TLN is any better than Derana and Hiru TV?”
Or for that matter SIRASA. It is the mother of all fake media in Sri Lanka, specializing in spin, disinformation, and media manipulation.

Good information and thank you for it. They say politics is the last refuge of the scoundrel. However we cannot live without it. There are two options in our country. We have to choose between the devil and the deep blue sea using our power of discretion, and then relish or regret accordingly.

Intrigued by the Pun-dit-try of Grusha, did a couple of searches and was pleasantly surprised when I found out the mind set of Grusha’s thinking via the Urban Dictionary.

Truly explains the free flow of thoughts, the openness of being and the joy of living.

A disciple of Rik, with access to the Delphi and a qualified Oracle …… truly mind boggling!

Will be delighted to meat you!

Gursha Andrews is a person who is trying to get into the limelight by attacking people. She/he shows the extent to which public discourse in Sri lanka has plummeted to the level of the “Mariya Kade” language.
Not so long ago he/she (I can’t guess the writer’s sex from the name) attacked the famous Gentleman cricketer Sangakkara right below the belt. Here he attacks Rajapaksa’s wife. Unlike Sangakkara, I am sure Shiranthi is no “gentlewoman”, and people will have all sorts of reasons, valid or not, for attacking Shiranthi Rajapaksa.
Gursha writes “Shiranthi Rajapaksa, who is connected to this murder …”.
He/she does not even attempt the expected “Shiranthi Rajapaksa, who is ALLEGEDLY connected to this murder ..” type of language that is accepted in civilized society.
Sajith Premadasa is insulted and mauled because he does not measure up to Gursha’s estimate of what he should be or how he should speak. The reporting about the JVP rep Watawala, or the presence of Susitha Senaratne are very welcome, but the language used, accusing them of being fleas is that of another debauched flea.

May be Gursha can again try to come to the limelight by writing about the not-so-venerable Dambare Amil – a kept man who is worse than a kept woman, and how Shaleela Munasinghe’s little known party was big enough to field Sarath Fonseka as the common Hansaya candidate, fund Sirisena, and also the UNP
campaigns. Did he also get money from Western diplomats? Why was he chosen?
How did he end up money laundering and also becoming accused of robbing a Taiwaanese bank by diverting millions of dollars? Why did Ranil appoint this British National as the head of Litro Gas?
How did the Purawesi Balawegaya demand that Fonseka be made the minister of Law and order ?

    Dear Sirs/ Madams,
I thank you all for the vibrant discussion on this piece. Regardless of the “for’ and ‘against’ argument, I think this discussion shows how much people value independent journalism, fora like CT ho platform non partisan views (or even partisan views that are not given a platform). In haste of translation I have made a number of mistakes and I even value the criticism on my grammar and sentence formation. I think we as a possibly educated and socially aware group of readers must strive for better standards of journalism, politics, language etc.
However, I do not agree that Shiranthi Rajapaksa is “allegedly” connected to the Thajudeen murder. The evidence is there and she escaped the law through shameless deals made courtesy Rajapaksa-Ranil-Maithri “deal machinery” .I will NEVER say ALLEGED. Till justice is given to Thajudeen’s parents and all others who faced extra judiciary killings- not just Lasantha- but the nameless, faceless poverty stricken journalists in the north east, south, I will never use the word alleged, where it is not necessary to use it.
As for the flea comment. Please read all the articles on this flea. I’m sorry to refer to a human in those derogatory terms, but a man who is insulting , manipulating and putting wool over the eyes of our judiciary- our only refuge in this age of putrefied politics- sorry, my dear readers. He. Is. A. Flea.
Again, I thank my unknown friends, defenders, critics, equanimous readers for pushing me to be a better thinker, a better journalist, a better writer. I’m a better woman for that. I learn from each your words. I’m the sum total of many forces and that includes all of you.
It is your passion for a just world, regardless of your political views, that ignites my flame.
    Alone, I am nothing.
    Faithfully yours
    Grusha Andrews
