Of course! A show demonstration like this, can be taken as prima facie evidence but what counts is a result from an election. The local government elections were postponed on some pretext or the other, which is anti-democratic, and was finally held to provide the opinion of the people in terms of the ballot. Again, the Provincial Council Elections are postponed on some pretext or the other and it is so bad that the Elections Commission has decided to seek a declaration from the Supreme Court. These postponements are a blatant denial of sovereign rights of the people. Democracy must be restored.

Ranil is not known to be brave or fearless. CBK knew it and cut the ground under him in 2014. Aappaya counts on MR’s political experience and cunning. MR relishes political tension and landscape like the one Sri Lanka is experiencing now. Cut-throat specialist Aappaya is only interested in saving the many billions he has robbed as a Govt Minister and in higher positions – illegally invested in the names of his close relatives in Hotels. Rice Mills, Land and so on. As his many pin-adi travels to many countries in recent times shows, he is mostly interested in Kaema, Beema and pita-rata “going” for him and his gamaya friends – on the poor people’s bankrupt economy.
Can Ranil sustain his new found “bravery” – buoyed by the large crowd at Kollupitiya? The courage and “balls” he lacks will be provided by Rajitha, Champika, Harin, Ranjan R and a few others in the UNP. He has it in the tank to “fight” for a few more days. If there are 1-2 deaths he will get his usual cold feet. Reminds one of Dudley of yore.
The next few days will bring the answer. Chinese money is another big worry.
