Unthinking Nation

By Tisaranee Gunasekara

“It isn’t knowledge as a product or commodity that we need…but a qualitatively different knowledge based on understanding rather than on authority… It is not fact but how facts are connected to other facts…how one is to judge the relationship between truth and interest, how to understand reality as history. These are only some of the critical issues we face, which can be summed up in the phrase/question, how to think?” ~ Edward Said (quoted in Arab Human Development Report – 2003)

It was the spring of infatuation. Millions of Sinhala voters saw Gotabaya Rajapaksa the way he saw himself, a colossus among men, a king reborn. He and his acolytes had spent much time and more effort crafting that image. Yet, from the beginning, cracks showed, signs that the image was not of iron or even solid clay, but of illusions. Almost seven million voters opted not to see the signs.

While the voters wallowed in delirious joy dreaming their dream, the newly minted president began his work. The timeline is instructive. He was elected on November 17th and sworn in on November 18th. On November 21st he formed the government with Mahinda Rajapaksa as prime minister. On November 22, he began hunting the CID.

Seasoned investigators were transferred out to be replaced by reliable neophytes. SSP Shani Abeysekara, legendary investigator and director CID, was made assistant to a provincial DIG. Inspector Nishantha Silva, head of the Organised Crime Investigation Unit, was transferred to Negombo. ASP Tissera was sent to police Field Force Headquarters. The CID was placed under the obedient thumb of a SSP who had been in charge of Mahinda Rajapaksa’s security.

Upending the CID was an omen of what the Rajapaksas would do the economy in the next two plus years. Yet, the country didn’t even notice.

The punishment transfers didn’t appease the wrath of Gotabaya Rajapaksa. His grudge was personal, its main target the man who had prosecuted him for misusing state funds to build a museum for his parents. On November 24th at a temple ceremony he gave voice to his fury. “Shani Abeysekara investigates according to his thinking. Non-governmental organisations don’t ask questions about that. To jail those who waged the war, officials, and navy commander, to jail intelligence agencies, to jail me”.

Three quarters of the Channel 4 programme on the Easter Sunday Massacre is introduction and prologue. It deals with the Rajapaksas’ blood-caked history, including the murder of Lasantha Wickremetunga. The findings of the CID investigation into that crime, including of the existence of Tripoli platoon, were known to the voting public before the presidential election of 2019. Equally known was the possibility of a relationship between ‘truth and interest’ regarding Easter Sunday bombing. The Parliamentary Select Committee (which the Rajapaksa-led Joint Opposition boycotted) in its report wonderedwhether those with vested interests did not act on intelligence so as to create chaos and instil fear and uncertainty in the country in the lead up to the presidential election.”

The Rajapaksas traduced the findings and talked of mysterious Masterminds and foreign hands. They also pledged to protect intelligence officers fingered as complicit in various crimes. Gotabaya Rajapaksa demanded blanket immunity for them. “‘If they cannot do it, I will do it when the next government comes to power,’ he vowed” (CID under siege – The Sunday Observer – 4.8.2019).

The findings of the Channel 4 hypotheses remain to be investigated and determined. What is indubitable is that the massacre worked in Rajapaksas’ favour. It gave new life to old fears about minorities as enemies and renewed the desire for tough leaders who would return the country to the golden past of Sinhala-Buddhist imaginings. This was evident in the paintings young Sinhala voters covered every available wall with, the moment their man won. Three types of figures dominated the wall-art – kings, monks, and soldiers – Sinhala-Buddhism’s trinity and the indispensable guarantors of its path to national salvation.

Cardinal Errors

Soon after President Maithripala Sirisena released him via a presidential pardon, rabble-rousing monk, Galagoda-Atte Gnanasara had said, “We are going to make a government of Sinhalese alone (Api thani Sinhala anduwak hadanawa).

The Rajapaksas considered the CID their enemy because the agency had investigated their crimes. True to their habit, they covered their animus in a patriotic patina, accusing the CID of conniving with Tamils and Muslims, terrorists and extremists. For instance, during the 52 day Maithri-Mahinda government of 2018, Nishantha Silva was transferred out of the CID; he was accused of being Tamil and thus pro-LTTE. Shani Abeysekara too was accused of taking money from the Tamil Diaspora to educate his children.

With the Easter Sunday massacre, the enemy corrupting the CID changed from Tamil to Muslim. In the first portentous week of the Gotabaya presidency, a group of Buddhist monks asked President Gotabaya to arrest Shani Abeysekara and investigate all his investigations. On top of their list would have been the case of Dr. Shafi Sahabdeen, accused by the likes of Wimal Weerawansa, Udaya Gammanpila, and Channa Jayasumana of sterilising thousands of Sinhala-Buddhist women by squeezing their fallopian tubes during c-sections. Gynaecologists said it couldn’t be done, but most Sinhala-Buddhists preferred to listen to politicians and monks. Ignoring experts was another mark of the times, which would lead to such varied disasters as the organic fertiliser fiasco and bankruptcy.

The CID, after a thoroughgoing investigation, had concluded that “there is no justification for the arrest of Dr. Shafi Sahabdeen.” When the case was called monks thronged outside demanding that bail be denied. During a June 27th bail hearing, parliamentarian Athureliye Rathana Thera went up to ASP Tissera of the CID and pointed his finger, saying, “Let’s see. The whole world is watching this” (Balagamu, meka mulu lokayama balagena innawa). On July 27th an organisation called the National Lawyers’ Collective held a media conference and insinuated that the CID was being bribed by Dr. Sahabdeen. “Don’t try to release suspects by manipulating the law,” a speaker warned Shani Abeysekara. “If you do so, you will have to face the consequences in the future while in a jumper,” (CID under siege – The Sunday Observer – 4.8.2019). The hounding was so ferocious, SSP Abeysekara was compelled to make a complaint to the police. As The Sunday Observer reported, the “Fort police have been slow to act on SSP Abeysekera’s complaint… The Police Station has taken four days to summon officials to take further statement and commence inquiries into the complaint.”

Demonising Muslims was the name of the game then; any Muslim could be accused of any crime, including impossible ones. The Rajapaksas and their acolytes ditched out conspiracy theories and the Sinhala electorate lapped them up, preferring lurid accusations to sober analysis. The American Ambassador could be behind the attack, Wimal Weerawansa said. He accused PM Wickremesinghe’s complicity, and opined that the plan was to turn Sri Lanka into a Libya or Syria (Lanka c news – 3.5.2019). The Islamic State was an American cat’s paw, Udaya Gammanpila pontificated. He charged that the Americans were planning to ignite another Black July by using Muslims with Sinhala names to attack other Muslims. The West would then invade the island as peacekeepers, he warned (Lanka c news – 9.5.2019). Commenting on the growth of the Saharan group and other extremists, the then acting head of the TID Jagath Vishantha had told parliamentary select committee, “After the Digana incident they published a lot of posts against Sinhala-Buddhist extremism.  And from our Research and Analysis units we could see that they got many comments and likes.” Just as the Easter Sunday Massacre would strengthen Sinhala-Buddhist extremism and propel the Rajapaksas into power, Aluthgama and Digana attacks strengthened Muslim extremists, turning a group of young and educated Muslims into human bombs willing to sacrifice themselves and their families for the cause of a global caliphate.

Instead of asking hard questions of how further radicalisation could be stopped, the Sinhala electorate took the easy path of Rajapaksa provenance, the simple road of enemies and saviours. Once Cardinal Malcolm Ranjith joined the herd, all space for rational and fact-based discussion vanished. “The youth who carried out the bomb attacks were used by the international conspirators…” the Cardinal said at a ceremony to re-consecrate the Katuwapitiya church. “I have seen a report that ISIS leader Abu Bakr al-Bagdhadi is in a military camp which is run by the most powerful country in the world. I won’t mention the name of this country but clearly the ISIS leader is in a military camp which is run by this powerful nation… We question whether this nation knew about the bomb attacks.” The nation the Cardinal alluded to was of course the US, the same ‘foreign hand’ fingered by Weerawansa-Gammanpila cabal. The Catholic Church even backed a no-confidence motion by the Rajapaksa-led JO against parliamentarian Rishard Bathiudeen who was the top Sinhala pick for the Mastermind role for a while.

Today, the herd is running after the Channel 4 documentary. The charges unveiled by Channel 4 need to be investigated. The findings of President Wickremesinghe’s new committee are unlikely to have any credibility, not after the Gotabaya Rajapaksa-type blustering and tone-deaf statement issued by the Defence Ministry. An international investigation with the cooperation of national authorities might be the only way forward.

Ignoring Extremism

The new Barbie movie is drawing huge audiences in autocratic Saudi Arabia. Yet it has been banned in the more democratic Kuwait. Hardline clerics had clamoured against the movie. A prominent journalist and TV anchor, sharing a video by an American Christian fundamentalist preacher, had accused Barbie of promoting ‘ugly feminist ideas.’ The ban comes in the wake of a slew of planned and realised measures by elected Islamist politicians targeting women’s rights. A case in point is an amendment to the National Election Commission Law making it mandatory for women to adhere to Sharia Law in order to run for office or even to vote.

Extremism is a two-way stream, top-down and bottom-up. We are familiar with politicians seeding extremism to gain their ends. But extremism can also be a reflection of and response to pressures from the ground, from society. This danger is particularly acute in democracies, as the Kuwaiti example shows. In this sense, the Rajapaksas are only a part of the problem. The interrelated issues of Sinhala-Buddhist supremacism and minority extremisms would remain even if Lankan electorate banishes the Rajapaksas to political wilderness forever. Because the Rajapaksas didn’t create the problem; they merely worsened it and benefited from it.

The real problem is us, the gullible unthinking people, the millions who saw in Gotabaya Rajapaksa the realisation of their wildest racial dreams, the embodiment of their deepest political desires. He may be gone, but they remain. They may not fall for him again, but they’ll fall for someone with some of the same unthinking eagerness.

The young writer Shakthika Sathkumara, who spent 130 days in prison under the ICCPR, subsequent to a complaint lodged by a group of monks, told a You Tube channel that our people have lost the ability to think, that they try to imprison complex problems in simplistic frames. Like waiting for saviours. Like blaming everything that goes wrong on national enemies and international conspirators.

We love to hate Gotabaya Rajapaksa now. But shouldn’t we ask why for many years he could do no wrong in our eyes? Or why we have allowed political monks, cultural monks, and entrepreneurial monks to hijack a noble teaching and turn it into what the Buddha never taught? Just as Tamils should ask why they followed Vellupillai Pirapaharan to Nandikadal, when other less destructive futures were possible. Or the Muslims should wonder how a horror like the IS could come into being and capture the imagination of so many young Muslims. Or why a young mother would set off a bomb killing not just herself, but also her children and her unborn baby?

Extremism is not the birthright of one community. Some Sinhala-Buddhists, especially monks, want to introduce blasphemy laws, a demand the Cardinal is likely to support. Tamil democrats ignore worsening caste discrimination within their community. 17 Muslim parliamentarians have signed a letter asking the Minister of Justice to block MMDA reforms, obviously forgetting that they cannot justify their demand for religious equality even as they insist on keeping their women subjugated. With or without the Rajapaksas, we remain what we had been for a long while – unthinking bigots of one sort or the other, ripe to fall victim either to the wiles of a demagogue or our own basest instincts.

    .
Thank you Thisarani for your valuable article. As I always say, you are exceptional in choosing “topics” for articles like “faust auf die Auge – 100% timeworthy”.
    .
I raised this question x-times, but many others on the CT forum don’t take it seriously as of today. I have repeatedly said that the rebuilding of society should have started immediately after the end of the war, i.e. in May 2009.

Although this is very clear, authorities in the public sector and private sector media did not take immediate action to improve the “general thought patterns”, instead, they misused their free time to pump up Indian films and culture. Some channel holders became untouchably rich, but general public is left unaware how HIRU TV or the like owners collected their wealth.

Every two young men and women who become easy prey of the drug mafia in this country become TV channel owners with Rajapaksa’s direct approval. Rajapaksa’s political campaigns are funded by various businessmen, including drug traffickers, such as Reno TV media units. Auditor Generals are doing some work but have they touched on how these men amassed so much wealth?

Today, I bet, 90% of TV viewers are addicted to “tele dramas” aired by mainstream TV channels and completely robbing them of their precious time.
      .
The so-called Buddhist dominated nation and its explanations with our traditions or apathetic nature did not make people think how the Mahinda Chintanna led government swallowed people. Self-aggrandizement and “misleading Sinhala power” equated youth to drug addiction. The result is clear to many people today.

Today, I clearly point the finger at the nation’s visual media for the damage done to its own people rather than the damage done to the nation during the entire civil war.

However, the bigger problem is how many people who cry for “real change” are usually thinking of their own incompetence. That is why I come forward to reiterate that nothing is needed but to improve the thought patterns of the common people of the nation by being fed with the facts of anything.
The last time I went home was in June 2023. There too I tried to get some information to see why the nature of people’s thinking stagnates somewhere. People are forced to go beyond belief and believe “it’s our karma”. They are superstitions rather than Indian culture that mislead Hindus. Even if the Buddhist banner is on the leader board, what is practiced in our country is real Buddhism which is miles away from Hinduism under “Sinhala-Buddhism”.

Wonder if there are countries nearby or in the West where things are otherwise. Perhaps they spend the time more profitably watching soccer or some other game.

If that was so, the History Channel wouldn’t be history. I know people who use YouTube to watch yesterday’s teledrama.

Just a few minutes ago I received an urgent whatsapp (whats up) message as follows:

A jubilant Rohit Sharma has taken the Asia Cup to India to the delight of Emperor NM.

Malcolm Cardinal Ranjith has called for an international team to investigate to find the මහ මොලකරු behind the latest Asia Cup disaster.

Wimal Weerawansa wants to know if the American Ambassador had visited any of the cricketers prior to the match.

Sirisena says he will divulge who fixed the match if anyone tries to blame him.

Maj Gen Suresh Sally has issued a brief statement that he was in Kathankudi during the match.

In the meantime, Ranil Wickramasinghe has appointed an All Party Parliamentary Select Committee headed by Sagala Ratnayake to investigate the matter.

Chanel 4 will reveal all in an Investigative TV program in 2028.

            MR has issued a two word statement from his Madamulana Wallauwa;

          SJ ,

In the West , they ae busy earning their livelihood and they read
a lot to empower themselves with more knowledge of their
interest . They do watch their favourite sports live or live telecast .
They don’t talk politics . They only want to enjoy life and share
that joy with others . They do watch TV but no such thing as
addiction . They love going cinema than watching TV and going
out for dinner . They possess a very good knowledge of their
economy and so much part of it in good and bad times . I tell you an
amazing thing about UK , you go to any shop of any size , you won’t
miss your balance money of one penny which is like one cent for us ,
not in value but denomination and do you think you get your one
cent back from 99% of our businesses ? It is a big difference in
transactions , no room for even thinking of cheating .

This is the global ranking for TV watching (min/day)
            1…United States…270
            2…Poland…264
            3…Japan…262

            9…Germany…223
            10…United Kingdom…212
I saw another that listed 20 top watchers. We are nowhere there.
But the data could be a little misleading as smartphones have replaced the TV as entertainment. And China tops the league.
India lags at around 180 min per day; and we cannot be far different.
I seriously doubt that people can take more than an hour (or even 30 min) of TV news per day.
If per capita production of teledramas gives a hint I can assure you that Tamilnadu is way ahead of Sri Lanka.

              OC and all,
              .
There is a big difference between regular TV viewers and tele drama viewers.

Having lived in Europe for the last 3 decades, I know that most Europeans are more used to watching sports and politics than watching teledrama series.
Even the garbage collecting workers who completed just oleval in Europe are well aware of many things. Their general knowledge is multiple times better than an average teacher in Sri Lanka. I compare it every year whene I travel back home…… believe me..

I know a german technician (75 years) who has an overall knowledge of many fields, even if he never worked for graduate courses. However, if I compare his knowledge with that of our Sinhalese man, I believe that the Sinhalese man cannot even stop talking about his family while commenting on CT. see the greater difference !!

In my previous comment, I raised that teledrama viewership in Sri Lanka is significantly high. That has become a cancer to our society….. sociologists and other experts … over to you,.. it is time to see it back.. where you guys went wrong…

A huge portion of families seem to be addicted to them. Not a large number of household are interested in politics or anything else, but they are hooked on tele-dramas and Indianized movies.
                .
Unfortunately most of them have not enough space to think about their country and its problems. That is why they act like ” the stupidiest voters of the world”:
That’s why the average citizens of our Hell are more stupid than they appear. Although this was 6 decades ago, it was first predicted by the late Professor Kovoor. He was a social and psychoanalyst of Sri Lankan society at that time. However, today things have become worse when it comes to people’s general knowledge.

Be that as it may, what you get on TV depends on how much you pay. In Europe you have license fees. We don’t. Soon enough, there will be no free-to-air TV in the UK.

How many hours of his/her authorized TV hours they are losing in Langkang? How deep these dramas are in introducing the real world to the viewers? How much of the usual filth like political propaganda, religious conversion, cultural backwadism are infused into the society by these junks? With the Langkang Aanduwa, who else are owners of these TV channels?

        Dear inteligent Readers,
        .
The trick of kneeling before a famous monk (whether the monk is a kingpin of sex offenders or a kingpin of other criminals is secondary) but in public: this was common under Mahinda#S for two terms and increases as an election nears. . .

Did any of you take a good look at GOTA’s kneeling pose? If you don’t study it today, when? How many more years will it take to understand the political mechanism behind that picture?

This is the basis of the Mahinda- ideology which deceives the majority Sinhala Buddhist people of this country.

May our people get brain power. It is worth talking about holding the next elections, but only after mobilizing our stupid majority.

Re the THUGS in saffron robes from sinhala land, I was in a shopping mall in my country and I say a bunch of these sinhala land thugs in saffron robes and I think when I stared at them to confirm whether they were from sinhala land I saw palpable fear in one of them eyes. I always have since wondered whether I should have given this mob of saffron robe thugs a taste of their own medicine.

JUST SHOWS THAT THEM SINHALAS TAKE THEIR RACISM , IMAGINED SUPERIORITY OVERSEAS TOO: Another case where sinhala land ex army “dog catcher” not really this but of this level of intellect, council officer took aN Eelam Tamil friend of mine to court over minor fine that was disputed. This dog catcher was strutting around in court for the three hearings. Barrister was representing the council. Significant amounts of money approximately $10k plus spent by council. Representing himself my friend argued a legal technicality and won, When decision given ex tempore by Judge (yes Judge not Magistrate), I being in court observed that in total shock the sinhala land ex army “dog catcher” BOLTED (I mean bolted!) “tail between legs” from the court room. Must have been in total shock! He died shortly afterwards. I suppose couldn’t stomach the intellectual superiority of my Eelam tamil friend.

TG , thank you so much for putting facts in perspective. Soon after Easter I expressed my opinion on the same lines. Soon I managed to confirm by talking to few insiders who are close to some of our parliamentarians. Just to add to what you already mentioned Gotha also placed a blanket travel ban on whole CID department.

A fifty years experience and political activist the former President Mahinda Rajapaksa may be worrying for the simple mistakes such as bringing all family into business, premature dream of making his son as the next President, allowing his brother to kill all the good people including Lasantha etc. etc. At the end of war in may 2009, he should have treated all those who surrendered as humans instead of killing, asking his son to develop skills to be a good candidate for presidency, implement of 13 + as promised etc.etc. If he respected all, today the people will give him a long presidency and he need to cry for all the crimes he and his family did to the people. He behaved like a open criminal and he and his family has to face the reality. Now, People should decide do what they need do either kill more and more people to save Rajapaksa family or save the people from dying in hunger.

          Brother Mahila,
          .
Politicians call our people as “usual very intelligent people”. This is similar to the partiotism and sinhala chauinsm of Medamulana dogs. The truth about Rajapakshe cattle thieves is , they dont care even their mothers would have been raped by someone for their selfish gains. That is why Mahinda Rajapakshe cant yet reliniquish the power, like Obama and other leaders did.
          .
This they repeat every time in their election campaigns. The majority of our modayas and fell for an easy trick. It is that simple. They think they are the real champions of the world….. If they will say “We Sinhalese are the most powerful nation in the world” that would be more than enough sinhalaya to live up their fantasies for several years. They do it leaving the Facts aside, they are gone to ecatasy being “self-aggrandizing as nothing can stop them”: That is why even if some sinhalayas though picked up lots of experience having travelled around the globe, nevertheless, they remain unchanged. If buddhist monks would help singing the song outloud, they would be happier than anything else.::::::: SINHALAYA MODAYA KEWUM KANNA SURAYA.
This is how Sinhala genetics taught them to act. I am ashamed to speak Sinhala today.. I really am.

Everyone’s attention must be given to the paragraph before the concluding paragraph. It is indeed an eye-opener

I would ask the people to be FREE from all affiliations (political, religious, and social) and read that paragraph starting with: “We love to hate Gotabaya Rajapakse now. But shouldn’t we ask why………”

I think this is the message that any political outfit that aspires to form a Government must convey to the people of all communities and religious factions.

That “Million Dollar” question: “Shouldn’t we ask why….” is not what is impressed upon the peoples’ minds, but a “Harang” of “Bombardments” about “Corruption”; “Mismanagement”; “Nepotism”; “Waste” etc…..etc….”. Not that it is important. Aren’t the people FED up with that loud-mouthed “Harangs”? If these “Political Pandits” think that type of “Manthra” will win votes, I say sorry to them.

My advice to any political party to win votes is: Give the INFORMATION(on corruption, waste, etc.) and explain why they are in “MISERY” today, and at the end ask: ” ARE YOU PREPARED TO LIVE WITH THIS STATE OF AFFAIRS AND CONTINUE THIS LIFE ANY FURTHER”? Let the people be FREE and ENCOURAGE them to THINK and DECIDE.

      Re the penultimate para:
‘We love to hate Gotabaya Rajapaksa now. But shouldn’t we ask why for many years he could do no wrong in our eyes?”
How many years? It took barely 2 years for his slips to show. The man was not voted president because of faith in him but because the alternative was politically bankrupt.

” Or why we have allowed political monks, cultural monks, and entrepreneurial monks to hijack a noble teaching etc.?”

“Just as Tamils should ask why they followed Vellupillai Pirapaharan to Nandikadal, when other less destructive futures were possible.”
Less destructive, true. But any credible in the context of a war imposed on the Tamils by the UNP government and sustained by successors?
The support for the LTTE was for a good part due to bullying.
Did not the JVP successfuly bully the Sinhalese for much of 1988–89?

what If our people like to go after small gifts and get cheated again ?

As gorillas do, MaRa pounded his chest to signify “I love this country”.
        “I love our people”
“I love Sinhala Buddhism”. Naive people bought them all at once.
The anaphoric claims of power-hungry mad dogs have stuck in the heads of gullible common people. Just as tattoos cannot be easily removed, these thoughts are established in people. This has nothing to do with democracy, but brainwashing for their power.

Given this reality, how can we expect our people to do the right thing when it comes to voting? Isn’t that the same as needing a whole blood transfusion? Meaning a real revolution … basta.

MR is a typical opportunistic politician. His actions were not mistakes. Mrs B gave him (& the party) some credibility by making uneducated party yobs into lawyers but I am sure MR wouldn’t have cut it as a lawyer outside of politics, maybe, as a clark in a legal office at best. He abided his time being loyal to the Bandaranayakes & once he got the reins, the sky was the limit in achieving his ambition – making money. He was generous not only to his own family & cronies but to anyone who would share the spoils with him. As Frederica Janz stated in C4 documentary, the circle who benefitted & continue to benefit, is so wide that it is now established as normal, a way of life. We are aware of millions syphoned by the Rajapakses & their cronies but nothing is done to recover any of it. It has been stated that the state spends Rs 20m a day for the upkeep of MR while it costs Rs 1m a month for each MP in salaries, perks & pensions. The cost of keeping our parliamentarians, past & present, is mind boggling, yet, we, including those destitute citizens, continue to accept a bunch of yobs & parasites in a bloated cabinet without protest. We are denied of the change that needs to reform the status quo. Whose fault is it?

Thinking is very important for us humans. I don’t know how much animals think, but our thinking processes seem to be much more complex than in other animals.
    .
I sometimes go into “cafés“, and ask in Sinhala, for “shorties” (which many here will understand as “short eats”; but that is only in Lanka.) nimal fernando will tell us that, in the rich white countries that he visits, the acceptable word is ” snack” – dash it – any little “morsel”.

Our “short eats” are there in this place https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Confeitaria_Colombo ……. They look exactly the same but the stuffing is different.

Like in Perera & Sons, they are nicely arranged in display units ….. after living on Ceviche, Cuy, mate de coca for weeks …….. when I saw them I went crazy and loaded them up on to a plate but after the first bite, I nearly threw up. The taste of the stuffing is completely different. Had to throw everything away. It happens is Japan as well, they look really yummy in display cabinets but the stuffing is made of some kind of red beans that tastes really yucky.

Don’t worry when you visit the Moon in the near future you might find a South Indian thosa Kade near ShivShakti, a holy place and a city centre. Modi has marked the area for future development.

Back to Sri Lanka, thosa kades are popular among all people and provide food at an affordable price. I never understood during riots why do these thosa kades become the first target.

          SM ,

Dear SM , Thanks for your reply . You are lucky , you spend hours
thinking out issues but many in the county don’t know anything
else than thinking out daily issues bombarded on them by the
cursed ones in the Diyawanna Croc paradise . And then , thank
you also for the invitation to watch the beauty of FB picture that
proves my doubts I raised many times with you about the quality
of JVP / NPP combo in real life . Is it Gnanasara blessing Lalkantha
or Lalkantha surrendering to Gnanasara ? Whichever is right , it is
a bad sign for the country . And , and , and , and if we are told by
the crooks that it is necessary for their politics to talk to all
extremists , THEY HAVE NO RIGHT TO BLAST RANIL + MAHINDA +
SAJITH + MYTHREE and other forces join hands for the same
reason ! The JVP / NPP spend on stage hours hitting out at other
parties mixing freely with each other . This picture speaks not
thousand words , I would write a million . I would say , this picture
could stop people believing in JVP /NPP UNITY BAILA .

The overarching theme of the Barbie Movie is to indorenate the children into the Global Depopulation program! The only reason it is being shown in places like Saudi is to make Muslims aware of the latest Democratic American experiment to combat Climate Change by depopulating the Planet so Rabid Capitalism can sustain America and the West.

True what you say, TG. A little bit of this; a little bit of that, is what the Rajapaksas played around with, and the whole thing came crashing down on them, or crashed down on them and crashing down on the whole country now for their stupid, megalomaniacal ways. Not sure about Dr. Shafi, though.

“Tamils should ask why they followed Vellupillai Pirapaharan to Nandikadal” ……… That’s easy to say with hindsight.

Horses for courses ……… peaceful means doesn’t always work. …….. People fail to see that Gandhi succeeded because he applied peaceful means/protests against the English: England by then has become a sorta “civilized” society that couldn’t crush Gandhi like a fly: the world was watching. ……… The question to ask is, how long would have Ghandi lasted (or what his peaceful means would’ve achieved) in Putin’s Russia, Kim’s North Korea, Xi’s China, Cuba, Iran ……… or Ranil/Rajapakses’ SL?

A primitive mind/society understands only fear/terror ………. unlike any other Tamil leader, Prabakaran’s “methods” at the height of his power achieved equal treatment with the Sinhalese government in the South. His success brought on hubris and a belief of invincibility that led him to make a few crucial foolish mistakes. Instead of trying to blast his way to freedom he should have established freedom/separation little by little …….. after the peace treaty when his “rule” in the North was accepted by the government in the South.

Unfortunately, peaceful means work only in a handful of societies ……… but violence/force has worked in many more places throughout human history …….. America, Britain, Russia, China, Cuba …….. name ye own ……..

I’m not advocating violence …… but just stating how it works ……. how the world is ……..

How soon people forget ……… violence on the night of 9th of May …….. made Gota and Mahinda to abdicate and runaway …

Until then it was just political-theatre …….. that achieved nothing …….

Ranil/rajapakses will go on forever if it’s only peaceful political-theatre that oppose them …….

“People fail to see that Gandhi succeeded because he applied peaceful means/protests against the English: England by then has become a sorta “civilized” society that couldn’t crush Gandhi”
Not really. By 1946, there were mutinies among both the British and Indian military. They couldn’t be relied on to crush anything. The Brits, being smart, decided to decamp.

        OC,

Gandhi was just one man …….. to take him out the Brits didn’t need armies ….. a few well-trained people would’ve been enough. They could’ve easily taken him out. …….. Look how easily Putin gets rid of his opponents/enemies.

Look how easily Ranil took out the Aragalaya …….. all he needed was a few goons from Senadheera’s Avant-garde, dressed up as army men …….. with black-handled Ranil sticks!

Gandhi knew the value of world/public opinion ……. he had American and British reporters/journalists/photographers sympathetic to his cause that were going around with him and reporting all to their newspapers back home. British and American societies, at the time, wouldn’t have tolerated the elimination of Gandhi.

I, of all people, should know what love does to a man ……. Your mind is not free to think, OC! You’re in love with Ranil! …….. Unlike the man from Bandarawela, I’ll be the last to come between a man and his love!!! :)))))

As always, Tisaranee writes well. The problem is that we will remain three nations, not one. As long as Sinhala Buddhism remains dominant, the Sinhalayos will believe that they are the preeminent people of the country. The Tamils will always resist it. Their diaspora will keep their aspirations alive. Prabaharan will never be condemned by the Tamils because they see him as a last resort after peaceful methods had been tried out. The Muslims will play their double game. So, there is no hope for our resplendent island. The likes of Rajapakses will not be a dying breed. the 6.9 million will still remain kept in Mahavamsa febrility to be awakened by the Buddhist priests whenever it is needed. The Sinhalayas will be kept poor, educated in Sinhala Only and thoroughly ignorant as this is what their masters want them to be. The response to the 13th Amendment shows this. India and China will fish in these troubled waters. So, the people will go on.

Would you consider them a thinking nation if they voted for Ranil W ?

Isn’t this the fundamental problem for this country since Ranil took over the leadership of the UNP 30 years ago ?

Since then it has always been Ranil vs the other side. Sirisena, SF were always treated like proxies for this Ranil, because the majority votes were UNP ( even in the UNP Ranil was very unpopular as seen after the split) He now has only Vajira and Sagala !

Compared to this universally disliked devious non-performer, everyone else looked better for the voter .

In UK< Australia or every other parliamentary country , so many leaders have come up in 30 years.

UNP has only one leader !

WW, your current comments are really good Mr.
      .
That’s why I tell you that our people are multiple times stupid than they look. If you would show them the moon, they try to examine the deformations of your fingers. Today they behave as if they have lost their face, but when an election comes, the Rajapaksas will not erase the worst memory of the rascals. And also the fact, that they are real primitive if you would please analyse most of the YOUTUBE comments being added to youtube videos.

I don’t blame politicians only, people are also to blame. My skepticism about NPP tactics to achieve all this is widening. Their only cry is about accusations and corruption, not focusing on crucial issues like how they can raise the standard of ordinary life to allow for rational thought.

      https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vORWQFCVKoc

I like this youtuber, because he makes effort people to learn proper analysing tactics.
      .
It is only when people wake up and look beyond that that matters. Did you see how cunning the Rajapaksas must be to kneel before the “so-called Buddhist monks” to convey the message to the stupid, ignorant nation that they are the true indigenous and cultural leaders of this country?

“The American Ambassador could be behind the attack, Wimal Weerawansa said. He accused PM Wickremesinghe’s complicity and opined that the plan was to turn Sri Lanka into a Libya or Syria (Lanka c news – 3.5.2019). Commenting on the growth of the Saharan group and other extremists, the then acting head of the TID Jagath Vishantha had told the parliamentary select committee, “After the Digana incident they published a lot of posts against Sinhala-Buddhist extremism. And from our Research and Analysis units we could see that they got many comments and likes.” “ – Tisaranee Gunasekara

By mixing up rubbish and fresh food, Tisaranee Gunasekara hopes to acquit Evil Emperor from 4/21 participation. Why is she bringing Lemon Puff and Real Admirable’s story to Asad Moulana, a double agent’s story? Here is a line from Colombo Media (online Edition) how Moulana, used the help of remaining NTJ members to escape to Swiss: Hanzeer (that is Moulana), who was with Pilleyan, is seeking political asylum in Switzerland, having left the country allegedly with the help of a doctor attached to the National Hospital now living in Pakistan.
Sources said that the doctor had fled the country after authorities investigated him for links with the suicide bomber Zharan Hashim’s group. Moulana claims that he was clean from NTJ and he did not know details of the talks NTJ and CID were having, while he duped the CID and ran out of the country with the help of NTJ activists. Will Aanduwa release the rest of the history of the Pakistan fled Doctor, whom they have already investigated?

When the Unconstitutional coup was staged by Evil, New King and Old Rowdy King, the then Western Ambassadors met Evil and told him that they will consider Evil as the legitimate PM and will reject Old Rowdy’s unelected government. Evil met with Old Rowdy and New King in three separate late night (After midnight) meetings and kept passing the messages the Western Ambassadors told him. So, America switched sides and told the Old King that if he resigns, they will eventually support Hitler to become president. Here we have to assume, America did not advise Appe Aanduwa’s ruling and opposition political parties to go for 4/21 in order to make Hitler King as the EP but cooperated only in the citizenship cancellation. Otherwise, we have to give the credit to Lemon Puff being correct, at least once in his lifetime, by revealing that it was the American Ambassador who planned, organized the 4/21, which Tissaranee considers as a farcical action of Lemon Puff. Langkang courts convicted The New King for not being responsible, only to pull wool on the world’s eye. The New King’s crime of actual participation was let go only to protect and continue the Sinhala Buddhist UNP-SLFP and or Muslims-Sinhala Appe Aanduwa’s legacy. Evil dodged the responsibility case by showing his EP seat.

  • 0

Evil is still in the loop, unless he resigns his EP seat in a well cooperating government, unlike New King, who resigned in his enemy Hitler King’s government. Evil, aka Impunity King, has saved many criminals’ lives from his partners’ party SLFP, and its child Slap Party. So, nobody from those parties will dare to arrest Evil or investigate him. If JVP comes to power, one can see some differences, otherwise Tisaranee’s acquittal statement on Evil’s participation in 4/21 will remain absolutely true. Then the Sinhala Buddhism legacy, like “Tisaranee Viyathmaha convulsing to save UNP ”, will continue without obstacles.

“Demonising Muslims was the name of the game then; any Muslim could be accused of any crime, including impossible ones.” Not true at all. Opposing Muslims Ministers in Muslim-Sinhala Buddhists Aanduwas was unthinkable even to the hard-core Sinhala Buddhist Viyathmahas. Even when the very devastating pogroms were going on in the country against Tamils, Muslims politicians fully supported Muslim – Sinhala Buddhist governments, without questioning the Aanduwa’s they participated in. When Mano Ganesan talked about the Dambulla Mosque’s displacement in the parliament, Ashar shut up Mano’s mouth that unless he had done Sunnath and had become a true Muslim, he should shut up and sit down. That was the adroit or prowess of Muslim ministers in Langkang’s politics. Even at the 1915 Perahera riots, Muslims started the riots and tactfully obtained British GG’s favor; that was why Sir Pon Ramanathan, bet on his life and went to London to seek justice for Don Stephen, which was a faithless, low-grade dog!

Tisaranee argues that Dr. Shafi Sahabdeen is not guilty because Sinhalese were in the mood at that time to accuse Muslims for things that were not possible. It was argued that reaching the fallopian tube or simply pressing the fallopian tube destroying a woman’s fertility was not accepted as possible actions, in the media. But Dr. Shafi Sahabdeen was arrested in Yahapalanaya time. He is a UNP politician. He, a Muslim, believing in his popularity, was prepared to stand in a Sinhala Buddhist Electorate. We have no specific idea of the ever-present political backstabbing in Langkang. Same token Tisaranee Gunasekara’s framing of his arrest as political witch hunting is meaningless, until it is proven it was not internal rivalry. But that is not blaming Muslims for everything. UNP is the biggest impunity organization, after all. Tisaranee doesn’t want to accept Evils participation in 4/21 but she argues that Dr. Shafi Sahabdeen was arrested under UNP because he was a Muslim, is only another convoluted talk. In any matter, from the start to the end, his case stayed on the medical side and was dismissed on medical grounds, but his anti-Sinhalese activism was not evaluated in the court process. Muslims-Sinhalese have been ruling Langkang together since 1948. They even held 20 ministers out of 25 MPs in Yahapalanaya.

And Muslims always had substantial representation in Appe Aanduwas to have passed MMDA, and Standardization like bigotry acts. Standardization was described as the worst apartheid law and was not found an equivalent in the Pretoria White government, which popularized the word “Apartheid”. Muslim spies claim they penetrated Vanni’s fortifications for the Old Royal Chaitanya government. Muslim Home Guards were well armed and used in Tamils Villages to keep out LTTE’s presence there. Moulana has described Razik Kulu’s crime spree under the coverage of the Rapist Army. Muslim ministers claim they split Karuna from leader Prabhakaran and made LTTE bite sand, in order to protect the Evil’s and Old Royals’ sovereignty theosophy. Rishard has fully escaped from Mannar Christian church and Mannar court attacks. He was accused by the Old King that he swindled about 5000 acres of land in Mullaitivu during the Old Royal’s Chitanta government. Old Rowdy was exasperated even though they could not rob that much. While the Presidential Commission headed by Hakeem investigated the 4/21 of UNP-SLFP Jihadism, Hezbollah & Rishard were able to get the OIC to issue a statement that if Muslim Ministers were investigated for 4/21, OIC would enforce economic sanctions. Some Muslim Ministers refused to participate in the commission, and the commission did nothing about it.

  • 1
    0

Further Muslim Ministers managed to suppress that report, in total. Not just the first Yahapalanaya Presidential commission, even the current Evil Emperor’ commission is headed by a Muslim Justice. There was not even one Tamil Christians participating in the death investigation of “Tamils Christians” massacre. Sinhala Buddhist Appe Aanduwa appointed men majority commission to review MMDA. It was reviewed by men majority commission, and many more times reviewed, even after EU, UNHRC and many others tried to make those changes happen, but to no avail. Muslims used their powerful influences in the Aanduwa to suppress any effort of changing the MMDA. Sinhala Buddhists Aanduwa were once risking the EU’s GSP+, but did not give up or stabbed on the back of male Muslim Ministers, who are their sole mates- friends-partners- in – crimes. When UNP-SLFP Jihadis murdered a Tamil Policeman and a Sinhala Policeman to steal their weapons, it was automatically loaded on Tamils, by Yahapalanaya Appe Aanduwa, to only protect the Muslims who committed that crime. When Hakeem was the injustice minister, he was sending more than 70 Muslims students a year to Law college; so, frustrated Sinhala students climbed to the rooftop of the Law College. That didn’t work.

  • 1
    0

But in one year, only one year, in 2017, when more Tamils than usual passed the competitive test of SL Civil Service exam, Aanduwa refused to release results, refused to promote the exam passed Tamils as Civil Servants; simply ignored it completely. The Tamils students who burned the midnight candles, left only to exasperate. Compare this with the Halal story, when Monks wanted to ban beef and make the country beef free, the government took over the Halal responsibility and saved it. The Bald Head Modayas only sucked their thumbs. Again, compare this with what happened to Tamils estate workers and their citizenship. Government officials wrote the estate lands on their name, with the name of nationalization, tore the estates, made it a worthless industry. In all the Muslims- Sinhala Riots, like Ampara Restaurant, Diagana, Motorbike accident with a woman, Aluthgama Monks attack, Beruwela, Kandy truck Driver attack, all were started by Muslims, but quickly overwhelmed by Sinhala Buddhists radicals, other than the Ampara Restaurant case, where Modayas thought the Chickpea food clots were wonder beheth. I don’t know whether those rowdies were honest, but sheepishly convinced that they were being poisoned or they artificially lied to start the attack on the restaurant & the owner. What happened to Kalmunai North South?

  • 0
    0

Valaiththodam Sr, who was a local government minister, thought that Kalmunai was too big for its control so wanted to split it as North – South. Kalmunai is treated as the capital of Muslim Thani Alaku. The split line Valaiththodam Sr. suggested separated the Tamil majority area from the Muslim Overall control of the Kalmunai. Muslim have successfully defeated Valaiththodam Sr, after him, CBK, Rowdy Royals, Yahapalanaya Evil, until Hitler King. Hitler King did not start to split Kalmunai in his short time, so he was not defeated by Muslims. It was the unproportionate, excess influence the Muslim ministers carried on the Sinhala Buddhist Appe Aanduwa made the Sinhala Extremists turn against Muslims. After all, until recently Muslim politicians voluntarily went to UNHRC and witnessed that they were having the happiest life in Ceylon under the ruling of Rowdy Royals. Tisaranee Gunasekara shedding crocodile tears for Dr. Shafi saying “that everybody was blaming Muslims for even the events cannot happen” is not justified as it was told he was not a decent doctor, but arrogant UNP politicians. The proposed UNP candidate, Dr. Saffi was not saved even by the Yahapalanaya government from going to prison. But the sad part is it is the Viyathmaha Tisaranee Gunasekara doesn’t know how to campaign for UNP-SLFP (Muslim – Sinhala) Appe Aanduwa.

I can write thousands of quotes like this. But,
It is not our intention to isolate somebody or some group and humiliate, but to prevent one type of crooks justifying improperly another type and all the thieves getting together & saving all other thieves, while running down Tamils as they destroyed themselves by refuting to participate in their crime & refusing to allow an international inquiry into the crime they committed is not acceptable any more. Beyond the nasty Muslim politicians, divisive writers and Jihadists, there are plenty of Muslim religious leaders and philanthropists caring for all three races equally on many occasions, especially when there were disasters. That must be noted above the nasty politicians’ dirty destructive politics.

“Just as Tamils should ask why they followed Vellupillai Pirapaharan to Nandikadal, when other less destructive futures were possible.”
That is one of her popular comedies. This is a blunt Sinhala Buddhist Viyathmaha joke Tisaranee Gunasekara, continues to make. Here she could not make anything better than Evil’s Gilmat (trickery). Still, if she thinks that there is a hidden method that SJV missed before he recommended youth’s struggle in 1976, in Vaddukoddai Convention, she must honestly put here that item and come for honest debate, instead of playing Evil’s Secret Solution game.

Time to Time, there was friction among the Tamil mass, Tamil leadership, and the Tamil freedom fighters, but they were single minded in launching the war on the Sinhala Buddhists UNP-SLFP or Muslim-Sinhala National Unity governments. In that holy war, there were no followers, no leaders on the side of Tamils. They many times showed their human weaknesses like jealous, greed for power, greed to fame, but never lost the focus of fighting against Sinhala Buddhist Establishment, sacrificing their, Udal, Aavi, Porul (body, soul and the possession)
After the war, Tamils have unitedly said that they will take responsibility for anything wrong that might have happened from their side, but as it was war between two parties, Tamils have been asking the Sinhala Buddhist Viyathmahas’ Aanduwas for a third-party arbitration. But The Viyathmahas are hiding from writing that kind of essays but suggesting fake paths for Tamils “Could have Followed”. Tisaranee Gunasekaran’s behavior is well described in a Tamil saying that a man who has wound on his back, refuses to bend underneath the barbed wire fence and passes through it.
For a long time, with a hidden intention of pointing Tamils’ loss at war and humiliating them, she has been trying hard to make the entire Tamil nation believe that it was Leader Prabaharan who appointed Old Rowdy on the EP seat.

  • 1
    1

Nobody, not just Tamils, bought her story, so far. Like Mervyn Silva, Rear Admirable, Ganapathi Pillai class Viyathmahas who after being tired of promoting that the Sinhalese are SinhaLEs because their very first father was a lion, slept with a runaway woman, and then they secretly switched over to RavanaLE story now Tisaranee Gunasekara too twisted her story, Pirapaharan didn’t appoint Old Rowdy King, but it was Tamils who went behind Leader Prabhakaran, giving up all the better offers she gave them. These are worse than children’s nursery talks but she is bringing them to the political arena. It looks like that she had quit reading the media recently and was unaware of international opinions on the Sinhala Buddhist Viyathmahas’ hangy – pangy dealing on each and every occasion, without any exception. Come on, why these somersaults? The reason for her jealousy, which makes her tell that the Tamils followed Leader Pirapaharan, blindly, without understanding, is because Tamils fondly called him Thamby (In the caste system Thamby = Young Master, Sir.) and his team members as Pediyal, a petting name for younger male children in their own families. It was not Leader Pirapaharan, even Sampanthar refused to support Evil for common candidature in 2015 election.

At least, once in your lifetime visit Jaffna, Tamil Eelam, a tropical paradise! They speak a language Called Tamil, the oldest living, Oldest spoken, and the Oldest Classical Language. I lived there some time back. That was a life in paradise. They have something peculiar social hierarchy called an antique caste system. By that time, older lower people call younger higher people Thamby or Thangachi. Older higher people were called Kamakaran (feudal lords) or Aiyya (sir).
Leader Pirapaharan has reached the status of Siranchivi (Not Kallu Chivi). Don’t worry about him, live or dead.

Pirapaharan aka booru hu*hi is still burning in hell for all the children he harvested and sent to war. Even with his death, his acolytes still follow the same racial-segregation nonsense. Though given that there are still Nazi and isis supporters im not sure why im surprised such creatures still exist.

Thank God, the Moors and Christians are able to work with rest of Lankans to ensure the diversification of the Nort and East. This is the only way to dilute the poison of Chola-supremacy and rid the world of that cursed ‘Tamil Eelam’ nonsense.

If that is the case could you tell us as to what would have happened to those Army, Navy, Airforce men who bombed the s**t out of the children in the churches, buses, temples, refugee camps, on boats, ….. … and those who ordered them to do so, for example Athulath Shit Bomb Mudali.

Did you know when Athulath S**t Bomb Mudali was killed he didn’t have his b***s. They were earlier removed by DJV in an operation inside the parliament.
