140 Billion Animals Slaughtered Worldwide Every Year

Religion or Not, Islam or Not this has happened. Even the so-called Buddhists and Hindus eat meat.

      http://blog.mamashealth.com/serena-the-wanna-be-vegetarian/140-billion-animals-slaughtered-worldwide-every-year/

Since you opened this page, this is the number of animals killed worldwide by the meat, egg, and dairy industries.

Everybody eats meat, except the PURE vegetarians.

This is the worldwide Animal Industry. Do you eat meat?

      http://www.upc-online.org/slaughter/92704stats.htm

      STATISTICS: GLOBAL FARMED ANIMAL SLAUGHTER

From Farmed Animal Watch: n.68, v.2

Globally, slaughter of farmed animals for food increased to more than 50 BILLION individuals in 2003, not including any types of aquatic animals. The estimates, which are compiled and provided by the Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) of the United Nations, are based on reports from more than 210 countries and territories. It is important to note that, while fairly comprehensive, these estimates may be significantly understated due to some countries or territories not reporting statistics and exclusions of some types of slaughter.

With nearly 46 billion slaughtered in 2003, chickens accounted for 93% all types of farmed animals included in the FAO database. Following chickens, more ducks were slaughtered for their flesh than any other animal; approximately 2.3 billion ducks were slaughtered in 2003. Not considering birds, the slaughter of pigs was highest with more than 1.2 billion pigs slaughtered in 2003, followed by more than 850 million rabbits slaughtered last year. See below for a summary of the minimum 2003 worldwide slaughter estimates, by type of animal.

      — 45,895 million (45.9 billion) chickens
      — 2,262 million (2.3 billion) ducks
      — 1,244 million (1.2 billion) pigs
      — 857 million rabbits
      — 691 million turkeys
      — 533 million geese
      — 515 million sheep
      — 345 million goats
      — 292 million cows and calves (for beef and veal)
      — 65 million other rodents (not including rabbits)
      — 63 million pigeons and other birds
      — 23 million buffalo
      — 4 million horses
      — 3 million donkeys and mules
      — 2 million camels (and other camelids)

These numbers indicate some significant changes compared to slaughter statistics from 1998. Over the past five years, slaughter of birds for meat has increased substantially, driven by a 30% increase in ducks and a 20% increase in chickens slaughtered. Goose slaughter also increased significantly, 17% over the five-year period, while turkey slaughter grew at a relatively slow 4% since 1998. The period from 1998 to 2003 also saw significant global increases in the slaughter of rabbits (21%), goats (19%), camels (12%), asses (10%), sheep (10%), buffalo (10%), and pigs (9%). On the other hand, the same five-year period saw decreases in the numbers of rodents (down 10%, not including rabbits) and mules (down 22%) slaughtered for their flesh.

According to the FAO database, farmed animal production is highly concentrated in a handful of countries, most notably China and the United States. For each of the ten most slaughtered animals, at least half of the total 2003 slaughter is accounted for by the five highest-production countries. China slaughters more ducks, pigs, rabbits, geese, lambs, goats, cows and calves than any other country in the world. The US slaughters more chickens and turkeys than any other country, and is second only to China when it comes to pig slaughter. Overall, in 2003 China slaughtered more than 10.5 billion animals for their flesh, while the US slaughtered more than 9.5 billion animals, not including aquatic animals in either case.

      Plain Truth,

There are No Funeral Parlors for animals.

The question of Why the Muslims Say Allahu Akbar, God is Great, Deviya is Great, before Slaughter, was explained to me as follows.

      1. Everything in the Universe, including Life belongs to God, Allah, Deviya.

      2. When you slaughter an animal or life that belongs to God, Allah, Deviya you need permission.

      3. “Permission: is obtained by calling Allahu Akbar, God is Great, Deviya is Great, and that is the belief of the faith.

      4. Since permission was obtained by saying Allahu Akbar, God is Great, Deviya is Great, the Muslim feels that he is eating Permitted meat, which is the so called “Halal” meat.

      5. If no Allahu Akbar is recited during slaughter, No permission is obtained from Allah, God, Deviya, and therefore, it is “Haram”. It is like taking stolen goods or stealing. Well, that is their belief.

I was told you can’t just kill an animal and walk away. You have to eat it. Has to be put to “good” use.

However, there is no requirement for the Muslim to be meat eater.
A Muslim can be a vegetarian, even though rare. Everybody can be a vegetarian or can eat chicken, healthier.

Halal is the Sharia Law prescribed method of ritual killing involving the cutting of animals throats and letting them bleed to death. Halal killed animal products are being pushed into the mainstream consumer production of animal stuffs and taken up by the likes of Mc Donnalds and other well known fast food outlets. Are you eating according to Islam’s Sharia without your knowledge? Contains graphic and upsetting content. Please don’t let children watch.

This guy is amazing. But believe me Sri Lankan goats are not like this. When I was slaughtering a goat, 4 person had to hold it.
Anyway, let me take an example to prove this is the way to slaughter with minimum pain or no pain. In the 80s, in America, the most popular way of suicide is to get into a bath tub full of mild hot water, slit the vein in the wrist with a sharp blade and let the blood flow while lying in the bathtub. Ultimately, the person will die if no one takes immediate action. The person dies due to losing blood. (Don’t try at home). Same thing happens by cutting the throat of the animal.
So this is the most suitable way of slaughtering animal as prescribed in Islam.

Who will find the pieces? Dont you care about a respectful burial? If someone wants to die let him die, dont give trouble to others in the surrounding by blowing a bomb or setting fire to himself like some fools do.

OMG this is awesome. Well you can’t fool everyone with this. These type of goats are called fainting goats. Please google even youtube has videos.

A myotonic goat, otherwise known as the fainting goat, is a domestic goat whose muscles freeze for roughly 10 seconds when the goat feels panic. Though painless, this generally results in the animal collapsing on its side. The characteristic is caused by a hereditary genetic disorder called myotonia congenita. When startled, younger goats will stiffen and fall over. Older goats learn to spread their legs or lean against something when startled, and often they continue to run about in an awkward, stiff-legged shuffle.

On the other hand why these idiots cannot use common sense ?, are they dumb & deaf ? or brain washed to such an extend to be blind to truth ?
      Who likes death ?
If HALAL killing is “God” approved, then ALLAH followers can DIE IN HALAL WAY, without undergoing hardships in this world, So they can join 72 VIRGINS IN HEAVEN.
All the idiots holding brief to Halal killing should understand death is the worst of all any living animal, human ever undergo, no any damn GOD prayers can make it good.

In these amazing videos, it shows that goats and sheep can be made to submit to slaughter without any trauma. Research with animals surgically implanted with sensors to the brain, from Germany, shows that if done correctly, when the carotid arteries are severed in this manner, with a very sharp knife, the animal quickly loses consciousness and doesn’t even feel any pain.

These are NOT fainting goats, Alex – go find them on youtube – they spontaneously fall while walking around. These are ordinary animals which when treated and restrained gently are submissive and untraumatised. From what I have seen in Sri Lanka, the animals are manhandled quite violently, and sometimes even allowed to see other animals slaughtered, or scent their blood. If they were treated gently and with kindness as this person does, I have no doubt they would submit to the Kalima, as these do, Ahmed. Cattle and Buffalos may be another story though.

    Are these killings needed.

Why god discriminate Animals and favour humans ?

Over 750 goats were slaughtered at a religious festival in Keerimalai, Jaffna today.

According to the Jaffna based Uthayan newspaper, thousands of people took part in the Hindu ritual at the Karuhampanai Narasima Wairavar Temple in Keerimalai.

The festival began early this morning and 750 goats were slaughtered after prayers.

The Uthayan newspaper reported that over 300 cockerels were also killed as part of the ritual. (

Killing of animals is justified by the God ,Hence he who has created humans as Omnivorous (that is to eat meat and veg).
If God had created all humans and animals as herbivorous there wouldn’t have been any plants left , imagine the struggle. So leave it the almighty he who knows everything. Isn’t it common sense.

May Allah reward you for your eemaan, example and understanding of the greatness/beauty of His words. This is great insight into the meaning and impact of Islam and the Qur’an in our lives.

Animals and fish live – some eat animals, some eat plants.- Lets look at how a lion catches a deer and eat. It skins it alive. – can we prepare the meal for the lions taking the life of the deer with minimal pain or stopping them eating meat – NO …. it is Nature even if the animal that becomes food feels good or bad …
Some large fish consume thousands of smaller fish daily… Nature again …

Plants live – They consume components from the soil, other plants or animals…… Do the plants feel bad when their fruits or their parts are taken by the animal kingdom or Humans…….irrespectively it is Nature

Earth (soil) lives – they tolerate to some extent what happens on them… Nature again

May be the skies, the seas too live…… is it fair for us to put all our unwanted to the sea or air ……yes the accepts and tolerates, but some times not…. sends us a tsunami or cyclones ….

Humans since ever existed has been eating meat and plants and killing animals and plants for consumption…… This is Nature irrespective of what the animal or plant feels..

When the tsunami or a flood or an earthquake takes the lives of Humans, animals or plants …. is it fair…. it’s Nature again….

One thing is sure. That all these work on a live and sacrifice basis which is part of a larger Code of Life…..

i guess the point you are making here is the existence of various gradual degrees of ‘life’, that there is no crisp difference between ‘living’ and the non-living from a broader perspective. (Lester repellant: don’t write here the high school biology textbook distinctions here. if you prefer, please add it your responses at https://www.colombotelegraph.com/index.php/cattle-slaughter-and-self-immolation/)

However, pain and suffering as we understand at the human level of understanding aren’t applicable to plant lives and other more mechanical forms.

yes, it’s true that carnivorous nature in animals is part of nature, blame it on design or conditions of natural selection. and it’s equally important that no apostle of science such as sam harris has so far provided us or other fellow species with synthetic meat for consumption except for their futuristic vision.

When a animal’s life is taken by a human the Islamic code is as follows…

Thank and be grateful to “The Ultimate Universal Provider” for providing the healthy animal. ( ensure animal is healthy, matured , not young bearing females, etc..)
Have intention to take the life of the animal only for the sake of food and have no bad intentions at all of anger, etc towards the animal. ( even in war should not kill animals or destroy plants other than for food, hunting too is allowed only for food not for fun.)

Treat the animal as much as possible with kindness… ( Give the animal to eat , drink and have an environment that gives no indication to the animal that it is going to be hurt)
Have intention and communicate seeking permission from “The Ultimate Universal Provider” to take the life of the animal.

Take the life of the animal with minimal pain…

There after even when consuming the meat meat first thank and be grateful to “The Ultimate Universal Provider” for the providence of the food and have intention to eat only the quantity that is required for living (with no greed and overindulgence. recommended to eat up to one third of the stomach, one third for water and one third for breath )

It is also mentioned to avoid eating more than one item of meat at a time and recommended not to be a regular meat eater.

These videos are nothing more than religious propaganda. It has been scientifically proven that halal/kosher causes an animal to experience significantly more pain compared to the stunning method. The simplest way to describe halal/kosher: the throat of the animal is slit, and it is allowed to bleed slowly to death . Scientific studies have shown that after having its throat cut, an animal feels pain up to the moment it dies. I quote briefly the findings of a 2009 study in New Zealand:

The researchers then showed that the pain originates from cutting throat nerves, not from the loss of blood, suggesting the severed nerves send pain signals until the time of death. Finally, they stunned animals 5 seconds after incision and showed that this makes the pain signal disappear instantly.

    http://www.newscientist.com/article/dn17972-animals-feel-the-pain-of-religious-slaughter.html

Let me ask another very basic question: if a human finds it painful to bleed to death, why wouldn’t an animal? In fact, in halal/kosher, the goal is to completely drain the animal of blood, while it is still alive (conscious) . This is no different than a human undergoing a 6 hour operation without any anesthesia. Given the ability of anesthesia, it is unnecessary. Hence, given the availability of stunning (which works instantaneously) halal/kosher is completely unnecessary.

When u stun the Animal.. the BLOOD freezes, thereby toxins get frozen too, which is harmful for humans, when u slit the throat which is the jugular vein, all the BLOOD drains and no toxins are left behind, thus chances of toxins getting into human is less to zero… A BBC study was done on this and the ultimate verdict was.. Islamic way of slaughter was less harmful to the animal than the stun… google it for authenticity…

As long as the animal still possesses skin and flesh, the potential is there for toxins to accumulate. The only way to completely remove toxins is to cook the meat at a suitable temperature.

    Dear Jim Softy,

Can you touch your hear and honestly say that you have never eaten meat. If yes, then hats off to you. You are a great guy.

On the other hand have you thought of this? Nature created animals as carnivorous and herbivorous. Some animals like humans can be both. The digestive system allows what kind of food we are able to consume. So nature created man/woman so that they could be carnivorous if they chose to be. So it is natural, despite what Buddhism teaches us.

Then there is this extraordinary creation of us Sinhala Buddhists. That is we are not meant to harm even an ant. Our monks talk of not even harming even smaller animals-“kura koombiyekutawath harniyak karanna epa” This is absolutely stupid. Can any human being live even for a minute without killing micro organisms. Each time we breath we kill so many micro organisms. They are also lives. If you look at them using a microscope you will see them die painful deaths as any big animals. The only difference is that we see big animals being killed and shudder. Have you thought of life that are invisible to the naked eye? They also have life, man. So do not take this argument far. You will look an idiot.

      Chintaka, RE: C/H Ratio

Throughout evolution, one “animal” or life had “consumed” another life for eons. The ration Carnivoes/Herbivoes has been between 10 to 30 or so throughout the history of evolution. Homo Sapiens, man, was a recent arrival, getting out of East Africa, about 70,000 years ago. Looks like man is more of a Herbivore than an Carnivore, and had turned out to be an Omnivore in practice, but not anatomically. Myths and Religion came, much, much later.

The Monk Mahanama Myth Legend says, Vijaya grandfather was a Lion, and if so, must have been a carnivore, and killed other animals just like the Tigers. Looks like what the Lions and Tigers have in common, is the killing of herbivores, humans included, like what their namesakes have done in Sri Lanka over the past 60 years!

      http://dinosaurs.about.com/b/2008/05/23/too-many-herbivores.htm

The quick explanation is that, in the Mesozoic Era when the dinosaurs lived, the earth’s landmasses were covered with thick vegetation. This provided plenty of food to sustain large populations of herbivores; the herbivores, meanwhile, became the main food source of the carnivores that quickly appeared on the scene (to take advantage of this evolutionary niche). Because carnivores can’t prey on herbivores with 100 percent efficiency (most plant-eaters run away and escape), there was simply less room for comparable numbers of predatory dinosaurs. The result: many more genuses (and a larger population) of herbivores than of carnivores.

      http://www.stevepavlina.com/blog/2005/09/are-humans-carnivores-or-herbivores-2/

Are human beings anatomically more similar to natural carnivores or to natural herbivores? Let’s find out….

Intestinal tract length. Carnivorous animals have intestinal tracts that are 3-6x their body length, while herbivores have intestinal tracts 10-12x their body length. Human beings have the same intestinal tract ratio as herbivores.

Stomach acidity. Carnivores’ stomachs are 20x more acidic than the stomachs of herbivores. Human stomach acidity matches that of herbivores.

Saliva. The saliva of carnivores is acidic. The saliva of herbivores is alkaline, which helps pre-digest plant foods. Human saliva is alkaline.
Shape of intestines. Carnivore bowels are smooth, shaped like a pipe, so meat passes through quickly — they don’t have bumps or pockets. Herbivore bowels are bumpy and pouch-like with lots of pockets, like a windy mountain road, so plant foods pass through slowly for optimal nutrient absorption. Human bowels have the same characteristics as those of herbivores.

Fiber. Carnivores don’t require fiber to help move food through their short and smooth digestive tracts. Herbivores require dietary fiber to move food through their long and bumpy digestive tracts, to prevent the bowels from becoming clogged with rotting food. Humans have the same requirement as herbivores.

Cholesterol. Cholesterol is not a problem for a carnivore’s digestive system. A carnivore such as a cat can handle a high-cholesterol diet without negative health consequences. A human cannot. Humans have zero dietary need for cholesterol because our bodies manufacture all we need. Cholesterol is only found in animal foods, never in plant foods. A plant-based diet is by definition cholesterol-free.

Claws and teeth. Carnivores have claws, sharp front teeth capable of subduing prey, and no flat molars for chewing. Herbivores have no claws or sharp front teeth capable of subduing prey, but they have flat molars for chewing. Humans have the same characteristics as herbivores.
But aren’t humans anatomically suited to be omnivores?

Nope. We don’t anatomically match up with omnivorous animals anymore than we do with carnivorous ones. Omnivores are more similar to carnivores than they are to herbivores. For a more detailed summary table that compares the properties of carnivores, herbivores, and omnivores side by side, see this page:
      Comparative Anatomy & Taxonomy

The link above also debunks the opportunistic feeder theory, which states that because humans can eat like omnivores, that we must therefore be omnivores. And this is of course false because mere behavior doesn’t indicate suitability. There are plenty of things we can do as a species that would threaten our survival if we all considered them suitable default behavior, such as shooting each other, lobbing hand grenades, or sending spam.

Killing for Hussain! Have you see the way the Shias kill the cattle in the market place in Iran and other Shia localities on the Fajr festival day to commemorate the memory of Hussain, the martyrd son of Prohet Mohamed? The bovine is tethered to a post in the market place and is annoyed by inceesnat drumming and shouting around him throughout the whole day. after this mental toture of the animal, like this in the middle of the night the animal is butchered most cruelly by calling the name of Allah! the Merciful. The meat is distributed among the present, cooked on the street and a hearty feast follows.

People like Amarasri who quote lowest statistics for cattle slaughter in Saudi Arabia and Iran do not see these. This is an annual happening in Iran. It is this cruelty which needs to be highlighted and not low statictics of cattle slaughter in these lands. Amrasiri does not see that Iran and Saudi are deseert lands where pasture for cattle is very rare. So the cattle population is small. He should give statistics of cattle slaughter to the cattle population in countries to give an objective picture and compare/contrast the cruel way of killing animals.

In India cow was sacred because it gave sustenance to people.

5000 cattles are slaughtered per day in Srilanka, neglecting all the religious holidays.
5000*344=1 720 000 cattles are slaughtered per year.
So if the Government Ban the Cattle slaughter who are going to take care of this 1 720 000 cattles.
So inorder to maintain the equilibrium of the Eco system we need vegetarians as well as non vegetarians. But its a choice, and nobody can force anyone. It’s their right.

IF it is their right, how come Saudi Arabia or muslims countries don’t respect non-muslims rights in muslims countries.

Why you don’t consider the rights of Sinhala -buddhist people ?

IT is always this way or the other way your rights are the paramount ?

      • 0
        0

No one is taking the rights of Buddhists. it is Buddhists who goes to Saudi or any other country as a migrant worker and try to be the citizen of that country.

Will your Buddhists will allow a Mahayana Monk to set up a temple here?

We know what happened to a Mahayana monk during JR’s rule in Sri Lanka: when a Mahayana Monkh tried to put up a Vihara here you and your monks chased him straight to Japan!

For you one rule others a different set of rule. what a funny Philosophy is this?

Only these Sinhala Budhists complain about religious freedom in Saudi. No other major Budhists countries are worried about that. I heard that more than 500 temples are closed in Sri Lanka. First maintain temples in Sri Lanka and then talk about establishing one in other countries.

Here is the experience of an American who worked in the slaughterhouse.

I spent 6 years working in a halal slaughterhouse in the US to put myself through college, and while I enjoyed the work of meatcutting, I eventually became absolutely sickened by the process of halal slaughter. Most customers insisted on slaughtering their own animals, and while some had at least a slight idea of what they were doing, others had no idea where or how to cut.

The screaming of an animal that’s had it’s throat cut above the larynx is truly an unforgettably horrible sound. One customer (a recent Saudi immigrant, if memory serves) insisted on selecting animals from our outside holding pens (they prefer to pick their own), throwing them down, tying them, and then forcing a hose into the animal’s mouth, “because you have to give them a drink before you kill them!”. After this he would try to point the animal towards Mecca (without the slightest understanding of which way North actually is in the region), and then take a knife brought from home and SAW the throat open. And I do mean SAW. I can open a throat in one stroke (hopefully painless), and would do so for clients whenever possible, in order to spare animal suffering.

    http://www.barenakedislam.com/2012/05/03/whitewashing-barbaric-halal-slaughter-to-make-it-palatable-to-ignorant-americans/

Very interesting. Why does the animal scream when it’s throat is cut? Because it still has a spinal cord. It can feel pain. Why is the animal pointed toward Mecca when it’s throat is cut? Here again we see that halal has nothing to do with the quality of meat or easing the suffering of the animal; it is all about ego and violence. You have to slaughter the animal in the name of Allah, that is why it is pointed in the direction of Mecca.

In Buddhism we know that meat eating is allowed and it was prohibited by the Buddha to Prohibit meat eating for the monks. Then we can understand what the layman’s status is. If that is the case then according to Buddhism what is the recommended way to kill an animal for food ?

The Buddha after studying Hinduism, Jainism, etc… realized the “Middle Path”. That is why when it was suggested my some senior colleges of his to make it compulsory for the monks to avoid meat he disagreed and ruled against the idea. There were monks who were extra cautious when walking thinking they might kill the living on the earth they trample or they were cautious when drinking water thinking they might kill the unseen living in the water. The Buddha was not for this type of extremism which was present during the Buddha’s period.

Also let us look at taking milk from a cow. What right do Humans have to use the cow as a milk machine. Is it moral ? On what grounds does Buddhism allow to take milk from a cow.

Look at the animals that give us humans milk. They have plenty of milk to feed their young and provide for us too. This is the law of the Universe….
What Islam teaches is the MIDDLE PATH ( The community of the middle way 2: 143). THE MIDDLE PATH IS THE PATH OF THE UNIVERSE….

        Muslims preach Buddhism.

        • 0
          0

But bereft of any true practice. As a practice, most Buddhists pluck flowers from another mans territory and without asking permission. If you ask for what purpose, to worship their Lord. What can they expect by such gifts? Expensive fruits are laid out for their Lord, and this only attracts squirrels, monkeys and birds. I am asking, does this accrue any benefit to the giver? People (males and females) gather at Temples to listen to sermons and observe Sil, but where is the practice being brought into their daily lives? Not to drink liquor, not to talk lies, bear no ill will, hate nor jealousy towards others? Just words only. The preaching monks don’t practice what they preach. Worst offenders. I can go on and on, but you will only feel more and more insulted, which isn’t my way of saying Muslims are NOT preaching Buddhism, but that Buddhists have gone astray, and have lost their way. Islam is more on course along the Straight path.

What I mean by other practices, is the keeping of embalmed dead bodies for days and days, whereas we Muslims bury their dead within 24 hours, the exorbitant costs of funeral rituals such as embalming, funeral caskets, display of grandeur with flowers, vehicle and funeral directors, sometimes even setting off fire crackers, waxing eloquence on the dead mans earthly deeds, etc. The strong belief in horoscope and its good and bad effects, times for doing good deeds, matchmaking based on cast systems, Buddhist monks life of celibacy, is it honestly possible to maintain after eating rich nutritious food? and many more such dubious rituals. Whereas we Muslims believe all of mankind were created equal, everyday is good day if it is started with morning prayer, Muslim Ulamas are normal people who live normal lives like everyone else, paid a salary, get respect for their kno0wledge of Islam and to be our religious leaders.

What Islam teaches is the MIDDLE PATH

No, Islam does not teach a Middle Path. Islam is all about extremes .

        1. Selective charity (zakat)
        2. Hijab/burqa
        3. Halal
        4. Honour killings (allowed by Quran)
        5. Imagery=idol worship (in which other religion is this the case?)
        6. Jihad
        7. Fatwas (so much for freedom of expression)
        8. Slavery (accepted by Quran, practiced by Muhammed)
        9. Polygamy (Islam is the only major religion that allows it)
        10. 72 houris(virgins) in Paradise for jihadis

Lester, Why do you hate Muslims?

          • 0
            0

I don’t think in general anyone hates Muslims as such. Any person with some morality will never hate a person for his behavior or beliefs.
The Muslims actions that they see around the world specially in the name of religion, the inability to understand real Islam and distinguish so called Muslims from real Islam definitely contributes towards this misunderstanding… Over that a persons inability to understand his or her own faith makes this misunderstanding even worse…

Muslims are also responsible for this kind of mindset because they have not taken the message of Islam to the masses.

          • 0
            0

Correct, no one “hates” Muslims. What they do not like are some practices of Islam. I am not alone in my views. Here is how the Dutch, for example, feel, after their experiment with Islam:

A poll conducted by the research bureau of Maurice de Hond (the Dutch equivalent of Gallup), commissioned by the PVV, among a representative sample of over 1,900 people also shows other striking results:

            – A majority of 55 percent favors stopping immigration from Islamic countries.

63 percent say: no new mosques.

72 percent favor a constitutional ban on Sharia law in the Netherlands.

64 percent say that the arrival of immigrants from Islamic countries has not been beneficial to the Netherlands.

Nearly three-quarters — 73 percent — of all Dutch see a relationship between Islam and the recent terror acts in Boston, London and Paris.

is that exactly the model you follow in SL Lester? Hate mongering and fear mongering to get such data from SL too help out other budding islamphobes elswhere? in the meantime, the social dynamics dictates that there is a peak and then a decline to typical social hate phenomenon like in the case of antisemitism. check out, https://twitter.com/ArnoudvDoorn/status/306830700521349120 A similar even happened to a man called Umar bin Khattab more than a millennium ago.

For most of these things, it is best if people are left alone to decide for themselves (after a certain age). For example, the dress code. You don’t need an ancient book to tell you how to dress. Number four; most people do not have to make this choice, so it is a non-issue.

Interesting to see that colombotelegraph now seems to be also interested in sprititual and ritual matters of islam as some commenters here do in dealing with current affairs.

First of all this is a sales pitch video for ‘mercy halal’, an animal slaughter business. However, it’s a good guide to a perfect slaughter and reminder for the better treatment of the animals and respect for the food.

Two years back, i guess, when asked to provide evidence for this ‘submission of animals’ not occuring without pronouncing the words ‘in the name of God, God is great’, as a control case, their answer was ‘do it yourself and try’. So I wouldn’t take their miracle claim to be the truth. Death has got to be painful in all cases. And Quran doesn’t warrant that God does anesthesia or makes the animal magically submit for slaughter upon hearing his name. In islam, all that’s is unseen is unseen, the details of which are to be taken on faith. Maybe they should have provided a video with cattles too.

The islamic guidelines here are for slaughtering animals as a strict commandment of obedience in seeking permission to take another animal’s life for consumption. It is also noteworthy that arrows and bows are permitted be used to hunt and even hunting dogs. It’s equally important to note that in Quran, the meat slaughtered by the people of scriptures, people of monotheistic beliefs, is permitted too, because they are not killed in the names of others than God. It’s wrong to call a by-product benefit of a ritual the purpose of it, while the latter was originally different. The fellow commenter Amarasiri does have a point.

For those non-veggies who think they are still eligible to write their rants here, I would like to ask them how many fishes (lets use number of lives as a measure in this case) endured what’s no less than death by suffocation to fill their plates or even salads with umbalakada. And for vegetarians, my respects! (that doesn’t make significant improvement on Mr. Adolf Hitler’s overall status anyway :D ).

For those who believe statistical correlations between brain signals and the rather psychological human perception that is pain is a decades old conclusive finding and that there exist tomographic methods to quantify the levels of human orgasmic experience, they are requested to check out the 2013 revelations in science outreach magazines on the maturity of the ‘exact sciences (technologies to be precise)’ they have their faiths in. :D

For the recently self appointed apostle of science Lester, I would like to remind him that he doesn’t have to play his very first pseudo-science card once again here trying to run away from an ongoing conversation at https://www.colombotelegraph.com/index.php/cattle-slaughter-and-self-immolation/.

I take this opportunity to convey another message relating to animals. In islam, it is adviced that if you rear animal as pets, you should not keep it alone. You should give its companion. Simply you should raise them as pair. This is very important as lots of people keep single animal caged most of the time.

    • 0
      0

      Ahmed,

Yes, it is good to raise as a pair, give company of the same kind.

However, DO NOT DISCRIMINATE AND HATE, like humans do. Show, love, Maitriya, like True Buddhists and Sufis do. Do not follow the Wahabbis, the BBS, the JHU’s, The “Sinhala” Ravayas and other Harakas.

Here is is the proof and data. “Animals” abhor discrimination. See these monkeys. Fairness Study.

It could be appreciated that in these videos, the animals trust their keepers not to harm them, and thus they submit to his call. When eyes are closed with the animals ears, it becomes more peaceful and the animals get more relaxed. The recited words are extremely powerful and thus have a soothing or a calming effect on the animal. When actual slaughter is being done, none of the other animals are made to witness it, therefore no fear is inhibited their hearts. The combination of all these factors is what you witness in these videos.

    • 0
      0

It could be appreciated that in these videos, the animals trust their keepers not to harm them

That is a backwards view. Why will you form a friendship with an animal and then cut its throat?

      • 0
        0

The only idiot who would ask that question is someone who believes that these animals are pets that are given love and that the killing is an act of hate. It is neither. The animals are basically walking hamburgers — you care for them because of their usefulness, and you kill them to eat or sell. Nothing more, nothing less.

When a throat is cut skillfully (either human or animal) the creature loses consciousness in mere seconds (lack of blood to the brain) and dies in minutes. The pain is intense, but short-lived.

All animals killed in SL are killed with sharp blades, as far as I know, and not stunned. So the whole halal racket is utter ignorance. All these horror stories (like the one quoted above by Lester/Heshan/Obersturmfuhrer) are about amateurs doing the killing. As long as professionals do it, there is no problem.

    Hijas,
I missed your good comment.Your problem of looking after 172,000 cattle a year in Sri Lanka. Yes, a good question.when animals breed fast at speed higher than nature can support them there has to be ways to control them. Look At Australia. A few decades back you could not drive on a highway w/o a Kangaroo jumping over the bonnet of your car.Today even if you go on miles even inside a park it is difficult to find one. So have the rabitts disappeared though many were crushed to mince-meat by passing vehicles on roads once. The nature has to take care. where it does not like our elephants in the wild, man has to intervene. He is in competition with animals for the limited sustenance. He is supreme over other animals. That is why they say God created animals for man’s sustenance. The Hindus have a word for it-Mastya-nyaya. The way of the fish. The big one devouring the small one. That is the way of the nature. So man devours others, except the pig prohibited for Muslims.Even that was because pigs were the cause of disease. Even today, have you seen a tape worm? What Ven.Mahinda told King Deva-Nambi-Tissan[ayagam] that the animals and birds have equal rights as man to live cannot work. If you allow the goats to multiply -they multiply fast – seethe country will turn desert like Saudi Arabia. Goats are the creaters of desserts. That is why 6oo goats were killed through sacrifice this week at kanakasanturai Kovil. That was not as achallenge to Buddhists in this Wesak week.
Anyway to come to your good question about taking care of the increasing cattle population if left to breed on without control, don’t worry. Rajapaksas are going to turn Tissamaharama into great pastures. How long will that do, is the Question. The best thing is for Muslims,Buddhists and Christians (leave out Veddas, they do not eat cow) to get together and think ahead and find a way.
    Thanks for stimulating thoughts.

Why Islamic method of slaughtering is healthier? According to Professor Schultz of Hanover University in Germany, Islamic method of slaughtering result in less pain and hygienic as compared to western method of killing as detailed below:

    Experimental Details

Several electrodes were surgically implanted at various points on the skull of all animals, touching the surface of the brain. The animals were allowed to recover for several weeks. Some animals were slaughtered by making a swift, deep incision with a sharp knife on the neck cutting the jugular veins and carotid arteries of both sides; and also the trachea and oesophagus i.e. the Halaal method. Some animals were stunned using a captive bolt pistol slaughter by the western method. During the experiment, EEG and ECG were used on all animals to record the condition of the brain and heart during the course of slaughter and stunning.

    Results and Discussion:

    Halaal Method

The first three seconds from the time of Islamic slaughter as recorded on the EEG did not show any change from the graph before slaughter, thus indicating that the animal did not feel any pain during or immediately after the incision. For the following 3 seconds, the EEG recorded a condition of deep sleep -unconsciousness. This is due to a large quantity of blood gushing out from the body. After the above mentioned 6 seconds, the EEG recorded zero level, showing no feeling of pain at all. As the brain message (EEG) dropped to zero level, the heart was still pounding and the body convulsing vigorously (a reflex action of the spinal cord) driving maximum blood from the body, resulting in hygienic meat for the consumer.

Western method by Captive Bolt Stunning

    Reference: http://www.grandin.com/humane/captive.bolt.html
The animals were apparently unconscious soon after stunning. EEG showed severe pain immediately after stunning. The hearts of the animal stunned by C.B.P. stopped beating as compared to those of the animals slaughtered according to the Halal method resulting in the retention of more blood in the meat. This in turn is unhygienic for the consumer.
