Just in California alone they had raised $600-700,000 dollars. In addition there has been fund raisers in the UK, Canada, Australia, Singapore and Malaysia.

UK appears to be blind to what the LTTE does now and what it has done in the past. They never seem to think that recruiting child soldiers was something terrible. This report is a totally biased one !!!! I myself was at the Sri Lanka Vs. England match on thursday and saw these same LTTE protesters. I was so glad that inside the stadium there were tamil Sri Lankan supporters supporting their team together with their sinhalese and muslim friends. I personally witnessed this and was so glad to see this.
A few points to note:
Firstly these protesters are holding LTTE flags and promoting a banned terrorist organisation. If they have true grievances then this is not the place to protest and neither should they be holding LTTE flags. They are not protesting the tamil cause but the cause of a ‘killing machine’.
Secondly as you can hear in the video they had brought small children. Talk about child soldiers!
Thirdly this is a cricket match. A sporting event that Sri Lanka is taking part in an international arena. Their protest simply shows that they do not love their country but they are only there to cause trouble and mix politics with sports. They are all british citizens and therefore they are not Sri Lankan anymore. So their aim is only to cause problems.
Finally if you are going to come and protest in a place where there are thousands of people gathering and especially during a sporting even do expect to be challenged. You are either foolish or you want to be attacked so that you can spread biased reports to spread your cause !!!!
Colombo Telegraph you have a responsibility to print unbiased reports that demonstrate a good journalistic ethic. Or else are you too an LTTE ‘puppet’ fighting their cause?????

A principle that has been established over many years is that ANY sporting event is NOT off limits to political protest.
The “west” boycotted the Moscow Olympics after the Soviet invasion of Afghanistan and the “east” boycotted the L. A. Olympics in retaliation four years later.
The treatment meted out to South Africa during the apartheid years is another prime example. I believe Sri Lanka itself took action against cricketers who were on a “renegade tour” of that country, though that story seems to have an interesting denouement in that the son of Kerry Packer who, I believed, sponsored that event is now being given all kinds of VVIP treatment and “incentives” to set up a gambling empire in what our rulers would have us believe is the shining beacon of Theravada Buddhism!
All of this, of course,does NOT justify the use of violence in promoting a political viewpoint or the display of symbols, such as a Tiger flag, which, if the comments made are accurate, is a criminal offence in England and about both of which the cops should have taken appropriate action.
