    This is MY version of what happened!

    2009 Tamil Holocaust and your lost credibility

    The Cry of a Freedom Activist:

    To the International Community

    Tamil civilian lives are in your hands the Diaspora pleaded in desperation;

    To Canada, US, Britain, EU, Norway and the UN; had you heeded with compassion;

    Twenty to forty thousand need not have perished in one sweep without identification;

    From a cruel regime’s and its ally’s fire power, chemical weaponry and ammunition.

    You have to act fast before it’s too late we wailed and protested;

    Lay down on highways, burnt our bodies, fasted, begged and prayed;

    In a tiny sliver of land our people are holding out, we cried,

    To their last vestige of freedom and dignity, still brave but petrified.

    You would have prevented a HOLOCAUST from happening;

    If you did what was right by your conscience, without failing;

    You should have used R2P: ‘Responsibility to Protect’ with urgency, without faltering;

    Canada’s initiative, mind you, to intervene to save lives, it was then certainly wanting.

    Tamils were falsely led to the ‘no fire zone’,

    Only to realize as soon as they had gone,

    They were going to be slaughtered, not spared but done;

    Under the very nose of the international community and the UN.

    It was a war without witness, no media to report the situation there;

    The people were left with no food, no water, and no real medical care.

    No humanitarian aid, not a soul to truly comfort and care;

    Such inaction on your part, a travesty of justice, that’s beyond compare.

    The attackers used their diplomatic machinations to raise the ‘human shield’ concept;

    You harped about it, not knowing, it was the perpetrators’ way to cleverly manipulate.

    The decision not to leave was a cry for freedom from enemy subjugation, you know it;

    Instead you fell prey; if you had a heart you should have surely and easily have known it.

    It’s a real shame under the pretext of fighting terrorism;

    You turned a blind eye to ruthless Sri Lankan state terrorism;

    You condoned the mass slaughter of a people who defied fascism;

    Women, children, babies and the elderly left to die from this unspeakable barbarism.

    To escape prolonged racism, marginalization, persecution and unending violence;

    To defend their territorial integrity, sovereignty and security and fend from occupation;

    People joined together, Tamil Eelam their thirst, their passion and their earnest aspiration;

    Forming a defacto Tamil State in Vanni to protect their nests and nurture their generation.

    They cultivated their fields, fished and traded, even ceased fire for a peaceful resolution;

    Self Rule, Nationhood, Homeland, three principles upon which they stood for liberation;

    Swearing allegiance to the State that had its own police, legal system and administration;

    Defending the land from enemy fire scores of freedom fighters died for the Tamil Nation.

    Tamils needed understanding, sensitivity and empathy;

    To the people crying for freedom Sri Lanka is their enemy;

    To ask them to go with an army, not friendly, with whom they did not identify;

    To be disappeared, incarcerated, tortured, raped and massacred; it does defy,

    Logic and reason; proved right with hindsight; alas too late to rectify.

    The strategy of the enemy was to deny sustenance and wear Tamils out;

    Weaken their resolve and virtually force them from their hold out;

    It was not a ‘hostage rescue operation’ but a ‘hostage taking operation’, with no time out;

    Even with Tamil fighters’ guns silenced, the bombing and the shelling ended not;

    The carnage leaving dead bodies, people butchered with limbs missing and organs out;

    To stop chemical weapons and multi barrel rockets from being fired on the innocent;

    In the end with white flags, the political heads, their families surrendering came out;

    Only to be killed at point blank range, as soon as the order from the top was given out.

    These helpless people had a right to life,

    A fundamental human right, even in strife.

    With a will to protect, it was for you to strive,

    To act expeditiously, to save innocent life.

    Human Rights Watch, Amnesty International and Crisis Group have said categorically,

    It will not appear before SL’s LLRC, as it has no mandate to probe war crimes explicitly;

    They said the Lessons Learnt and Reconciliation Commission will not act independently;

    Without witness protection it falls short of international minimum standards quite clearly.

    Let the UN’s Panel of Experts of accountability speak through its spokesperson directly;

    Not let UN’s Secretary General’s personal connection with the Rajapakses even faintly,

    Impinge upon and tarnish UN’s image as an organization with impeccable integrity;

    Affecting Ban Ki Moon’s ability to take action on the experts’ advice impartially.

    The perpetrators have committed war crimes and crimes against humanity;

    The question is who will bring the members of the Sri Lankan family dynasty,

    Those who allegedly gave the orders, to the International Criminal Court to answer flatly;

    To the charge of Genocide of the Tamil People. If you the International Community,

    Don’t listen to image building consultants hired by Rajapakses to counteract skillfully,

    The growing evidence against them; those who come knocking on your doors ostensibly;

    If you believe in the truth, and nothing but the truth and conduct a fair inquiry,

    And see that ‘justice is done and manifestly seen to be done’ only then considerably,

    Could you redeem your reputation in our eyes ever again and restore your lost credibility.

      You would have prevented a HOLOCAUST from happening;
      MY FOOT
      YOU’RE INSULTING THE JEWISH PEOPLE

      The attackers used their diplomatic machinations to raise the ‘human shield’ concept;
      You harped about it, not knowing, it was the perpetrators’ way to cleverly manipulate.
      YOU ARE THE MOTHER OF ALL MANIPULATORS

      The decision not to leave was a cry for freedom from enemy subjugation, you know it;
      EVEN PRABAKARAN WON’T BELIEVE THIS. HE DID LEAVE, DIDN’T HE? OTHERWISE HOW CAN YOU TELL THE “WHITE FLAG” STORY?

      People joined together, Tamil Eelam their thirst, their passion and their earnest aspiration;
      Forming a defacto Tamil State in Vanni to protect their nests and nurture their generation.
      DON’T INSULT AND HUMILIATE THE DEAD and LIVING VICTIMS OF THE LTTE.

      To the people crying for freedom Sri Lanka is their enemy;
      To ask them to go with an army, not friendly, with whom they did not identify;
      It was not a ‘hostage rescue operation’ but a ‘hostage taking operation’, with no time out;
      YOU AND BODU BALA SENA ARE TWO SIDES OF THE SAME COIN. YOU BOTH PERPETUATE DIABOLICAL LIES IN ORDER TO CREATE PARANOIA AND HATRED AMONG INNOCENT PEACE LOVING PEOPLE. YOU EXPLOIT TAMILS WORSE THAN PRABAKARAN.

      MARK: 3 out of 40 – a sophomoric effort, please note tail rhyme alone doesn’t turn a bunch of crude sentences into poetry. Read good books.

      In your adopted country, whose natives are relegated to the frozen backwaters and the two colonizing people (English And French) did all in their power to strip them of their culture introduce disease, introduce alcoholism, even killed their sleigh dogs and are classic IDG’s (internally displaced generations). To practice their culture they are permitted to do so only in ‘reservations’. All this in their own country. The love you have for adopted country is all good, provided we can all forget the original sin right?

      Being such a valiant defender of human rights I was wondering if you could point me in the direction of any concerns you have raised(in print or uploaded) on their(first nations) behalf. Surely, you recognize that the freedom you experience in your adopted country came at the unimaginable expense of its native people.

      Usha, can you not see that the country you are hollering from is built on the same guidelines which the army is enforcing in the north of SL today?

      Folks, there will be no rebuttal for this query as Usha knows not to tread in these waters. If at all it will be something written with anger bereft of any first nation interventions(in print or uploaded).

      LTTE was not freedom fighters. They would have started as one but ended as TERRORISTS. Once you bomb civilian targets and use civilians as shield then there is no question of being a freedom fighters. Let us not white wash this fact but accept the fact. To this extent there will and should be no separate state in Sri Lanka called Tamil Eelam. Jaffna can be renamed as Tamil Eelam, who cares its only a name but it should not be separated. However, all of us should fight for EQUAL RIGHTS.

    What a liars, There were many Srilankan government sponsored Genocide programs namely 1958, 1975,1977 LTTE was not alive at that time. My question to all these liars Two questions including Jehan Perera and Dr Paikiasothy ,

    a) How many of those culprits were brought to Justice?. Answer it? (I could understand the others lie but these two Guys are so called “Think Tank” must ne getting paid by the Government.

    b) Who abrogated the ISGA? Was it LTTE , no the answer is Mrs.Chandrika Kumaratunga by firing 3 minister.

      0

      @ Waran,I agree with you most of what you said but I have to disagree with who abrogated the ISGA,it was not Chandrika the reasons being
      i)LTTE was executing opponents from end of 2002 onwards (esp Tamil Soldiers in SLA) ,in 2003 they also went inside the Dehiwela police station and asassinated a Police Officer
      ii)the LTTE was the 1st to party to stay away from peace talks in 2003 giving the flimsy excuse that USA did not consult them or invite them for a conference,what a stupid thing to say and the bottom line is that they were never really sincere about the peace process but were scared to break it off when the UNP govt was in power as they were quite close to the West and the USA was keen on its war on terror strategy

        First of all I did only asked 2 question , You are claiming your statement with a fake name “I agree with you most of what you said” :), It was Mrs.Chandrika Who sacked 3 ministers. LTTE and SL government are both equal party to negotiation talks, thus they are equal partners m Agree ? When there is equal partner in volved in a talk you don’t suddenly come up with an excuse of “Non-state actor” , are u following me? Understood Mr. Probono Publico, I suppose you can not use your name , white van driven by Karuna will be on your Door Step? I hear you. :)

          True such is the nature in Sri Lanka that many of us dont use our own name but that does not mean we will glorify the LTTE or the Govt for that matter facts are facts

          You can say anything you want overseas Waran but the bottom line is the LTTE never ever were sincere in any talks I know this for a fact as I grew up in Jaffna,each time a ceasefire was on they broke it from 1987 to 1990 to 1995,2002 CFA they tried to break it when Ranil was in power but didn’t succeed till this Govt came along

          Besides which if the USA were hosting a conferance they invite anyone they like in that the SL Gov does not have a choice

          If the LTTE was soo concerned about the Tamils they certainly would not have stayed off the talks after that nor throw bombs at the Army in Jaffna from amidst the Theepavali shopping crowd in 2005 the list goes on and on mate!

    It is said and showed in videos that LTTE kept masses of civilians as human shield. Why they did that? Simplest reason I could think is that LTTE assumed SLG is democratically elected government bound by international laws and agreement, and would hesitate to kill Tamil civilian.
    But LTTE was wrong.. SLG didn’t care about the human shield (300,000 people belong to the minority tribe) SLG acted as another terrorist group but not as democratically elected government which must be integral part of democratic world.. Humanity of SLG leaders should have felt the guilt of penetrating through human shield using heavy weapon was wrong, but unfortunately top SL leadership haven’t got those human qualities.
    Similar things had been done in 1971 and 88-89 to their Sinhalese tribe, I guess only 5% of Sinhalese terrorist (??) Have been killed in combat.. 95% of killing had happens in custody

    There is a convergence of opinion on most issues by this broad cross section of influential citizens. As stated at the end, ‘Healing must come’. Can healing come with the present policies of the govt. That is the question?

    One hand must be stretched forth so that the other can grasp it in friendship and unity.

      Some people always find an excuse not to reconcile/forgive.

      Most of the Tamils who are crying for justice from out side SL are directly or indirectly financed LTTE to continue a war for 30yrs.

      January 2009 when killinochi fell the writing on the wall was clear. Upto then the civillian deaths were minimum. If LTTE did care for their own they could have let go the non combatants. But they kept them for their own survival and to gain international sympathy.

      They msiread the IC and they were fools to believe that India will rescue tham again as in 1987.

      Whatever happened the Tamil civillians payed the prize with their lives for 30 yrs or more. Their missery was perpeertuated by the LTTE.

      It was unfortunate that VP met his counterpart in GR and SF. They always fought to the end and the political enviorenment suited the SL forces goal. The military men will one day have to face the truth, even at their death bed they will have to answer ‘could we have prevented/minimised the deaths of civillians?’

      It’s time that people forget the crimes committed against them. Learning to forgive will give an inner peace to move on. To live with lost family members and limbs are part of the long drawn war. Healing will come with time and friendship.

      Can we look ahead and reach out and forgive?
      No more revenge , no more war, no more suffering.

      What the victims need today is to take one day at a time. They do not want another war.

        “It’s time that people forget the crimes committed against them”

        Sorry answer is NO. Civilians died in the crossfire because of LTTE holding them back and SLA firing on them is forgivable.

        Blind folded and shot in the back of the dead while laughing and enjoying is not forgivable. Someone has to answer these. If you look at the history lot of dictators committed crimes against humanity using state powers and believed they were untouchable. Leaders like Sadam Hussain, Gaddafi, Bin laden, Slobodan Milosevic but died like dogs at the end. No one is invisible to the justice and truth. MR and Gota will die like street dogs one day.

        Our arms struggle might have lost but not our ideology. You can’t arrest or kill an idea you know.

    STOP HARASSING THE TAMILS WITH MILITARY CONFRONTATION.

      It’s all what should have happened by now, then there is a point to argue and blame on LTTE.
      Four years since the catastrophic end of this bloody war with unimaginable loss.
      Government is failed on reconciliation in addition to that they have gone further to stab on Tamils wounds ,
      raising war memorials in Tamil’s areas and promoting guided tour in in the war affected areas (war tourism) where the people who lived there who are also victims denied to go back.
      Voluntary settlement of Sinhala families, especially, in those coastal areas. Victims of this bloody war have nothing to compete with this government sponsored fishermen.
      Government forces engaged in mass scale farming in the war affected areas instead of encouraging and supporting the affected farmers.
      Keeping high number of military presence in North which leads to many problems like ongoing rapes, disappearances, tortures and denial of freedom of expression (may be other way around). When it comes to argument Government says LTTE is a terrorist organization,majority of Tamils did not support them and their cause however it does not seems to be true by the way government handling Tamils.
      These people are even unable to commemorate their lost ones.
      Still holding a large land area under the name of ‘high security zone’ and preventing the people who lived there to go back.
      While the top level former LTTE members are enjoying their prosperous life with government, least level members and suspected supporters get punished by detention for many years without any legal proceedings and ongoing torture .
      Not even a single step taken towards a political solution to Tamils, which is the root of everything.
      These are just not mistakes or miscalculations but are planned proceedings.
      Government is running an agenda of making minorities minority in their lands which would help to control them in the long run.
      Celebrating the war victory with a mentality of betrayed the Tamils and keeping them as a lost voice less society.
      Showing totally contrary picture to the IC
      BBS is seems to be functioning for a hidden cause of distracting everyone from Tamils political issue, war crime accountability and to have a counter pressure for the political solution demands.

      All the governments since 1948 showed the same tendency of violating Tamils rights, the painful surprise is that they still had peoples support. Furthermore, history shows both main political parties success fully utilized majority supremacy policies to come and remain in the power. In this back ground, how do we expect equal rights from these governments? what sort of equal rights we are talking about?

      Fact is majority Sinhalese is going to decide the government and there by the policies of this country. In this scenario, equal rights will be hanging in the hands of Sinhalese and their politicians. If they are kind enough to share it, yes, minority would enjoy it however there will not be any guarantee for the future generations unless they have rights to decide the policies which are going to govern them.

      Prabhakaran was a Criminal Meglomaniac. His main aim was to be a one man Liberator and a dictator while anihilating all his opponents including his own race who had conservative thoughts. Karuna could have been one of them.

      VP was a good war stratigist but poor leader. More tamil people would have died even if VP got his Tamil EELAM, since VP was a revengeful Authoritarian.

    The downside of it is that the discussion comprises two war criminals, one who got the innocent Sinhalese killed and the other who had the innocent Tamils. It however completes the picture in a bizarre way.

      Three Blunders occured that paved way for VP’s Fall.

      1)USA world Center Bombing.

      2)Killing Rajive Gandhi.

      Three Blunders occuerd That paved way for Rakapakses Fall.

      1)Jailing Gen. Sarath Fonseka.

      2)Impeaching Dr.Shirani Bandaranayke.

      3)Not implementing LLRC and 13th Amendment.

        0

        @Jayantha. You are incorrect and trivializing the blunders… There are many by the GOSL from Srimavo’s time in 1970, to JR from 1977 with the riots he started his regime and grabbed absolute power for himself as President and let loose Premadasa in 1989 as President.

        That gave to this dictatorship of 11 years by Chandrika and the Rajapakse regime in 2005, which the stupid advisers in London, New York, Bethesda, Toronto, Geneva and Brisbane were responsible. Some were cheer leaders and housewives.

        The boycotting of the 2005 Presidential elections was one of the biggest blunders in Tamil history and LTTE and it’s advisers were clearly responsible and now the so called Tamil representatives are hiding that FACT with a lot of mumbo jumbo.

        The Senator of the TGTE Seniviratne and many others even wrote publicly praising and justifying Prabakaran’s decision. From day one I criticized that decision and that fraud of the Rajapakses and US citizens now ruling the country were exposed by two journalist. Late Lasantha W, and D B S Jeyaraj in Toronto. Both my friends.

        LTTE in their 30 years of liberation struggle were not perfect and some of their operational decisions was mistaken, like killing St. John’s college principal Anandarajah. Due to command and responsibilty principles, Prabakaran has to bear the burden of such incidents whether he gave such orders or not for the local commanders doing such acts.

        But which liberation organization operating without any governments help and backing including the forces of General De Gaulle and other African leaders have been perfect? Due to the 21st century communications and the hundreds of millions of dollars the racist, chauvinist, extremist, State terrorist governments of Sinhala Sri Lanaka since 1970 demonized the LTTE and especially Prabaharan. Even before LTTE was founded in 1976 Prabhakaran was well known to the Srilankan intelligence services as I recall in Colombo and VVT from about 1973. VP was only 18 at that time.

        More on this video later but no Tamil representation has been allowed and Bishop Rajappu’s sound bite has been taken out of context. But he did not represent the Tamil freedom fighters or those who supported the struggle but gave brave testimony at the Silva commission describing the killed and missing numbers as 146,000 thousand. In my interviews on behalf of Tamils for Justice in Al Jazeera soon after the Mullivaikal massacres I described to the whole world that 100,000 Tamil civilians were killed/murdered.

        You Tube videos also has that interview on reecord

          Donald Gnanakone,

          When I said Blunders……of couse there were many other blunders that both sides did during the 30 year war…..But I just highlighted the three main events that occured for the downfall of LTTE.

          Of couse VP was a maglomaniac….like Hitler or Kim Jong Un or Gaddafi etc.

          VP’s only ambition was to keep total EELAM concept under his arms only and none other. Karuna’s defection from LTTE was part of VP’s bad thinking. Also if Hitler did not attack Soviet Russia…the 2nd world war would have taken a differemnt route.

          Now Rajapakses follow same VP’s routes….which will end up in another Nanthikandal.

          People have become the Bait of Rajapakse power struggle to stay in top.

          There would have never been a Harbour built on Rocks or an Airport in the middle of Thick Jungle and an animal Habitat.

          I don’t see any different of Rajapakse mindset which is similar to VP.

          What happened to Tamil Refugees after 2009 LTTE war could happen to us in near future.

          It was never true Independence to the Minority community after 1948, but only to a handful of Elete Buddhist Sinhala Racist Majority who were running our country Blindly from there on.

          Blind leading blind lead the country to nowhere.

          This is the messagte I wanted to give.

          • 0
            0

            @Jayantha.. Your response is nothing but Mumbo Jumbo and lacks cohesion. I am glad you have recognized that Rajapakse is a megalamaniac whereas you are wrong about Prabhakaran’s respect and position in history. (Both Tamil and Sri Lankan).

            Do not forget nearly 60-70 million Tamils around the world love and respect Prabhakaran despite he being dead for 4 years and his freedom struggle destroyed with the help of the international community supplying chemical weapons, phosphorus and cluster bombs and illegal landmines. That is why there is tremendous interest in the Rajapakse regime and Sri Lanka accusing them of war crimes, crimes against humanity and even genocide. Latest accusations are also Rape and sexual molestations.

            How many Sinhalese support, love and respect Rajapakse in Sri Lanka and just forget about any respect for Rajapakse in the world. Rajapakse has to bribe the opposition MP’s with money and minister positions to join his regime creating a further corrupt system of government with a sttoge like judiciary, police and military. He uses the PTA to terrorize all communities and thus earned the dubious distinction for himself and Sri Lanka as a State Terrorist.

            You have alluded to building Ports on Rocks, and Airports in the middle of the jungle which are corrupt white elephant projects costing the country and citizens $4 Billion dollars plus 8% interest to China and mounting losses if and when the port and airport operates. That is what megalomaniac and war criminal Rajapakse has achieved in addition to drawing attention and a bad name to Sri Lanka where war crimes investigations are pending soon.

            Losing foreign aid, foreign investment and tourist are some of the repercussions of State Terrorism and lack of an independent judiciary. Even the exports have been affected and there could be serious sanctions on Sri Lanka in the near future.

            Forget about bashing Prabhakaran and LTTE since it is 4 years and the ghost of them are hurting the Sinhalese daily. The Tamil diaspora has taken the battle to a different level in a non violent way, but the Rajapakse defence budgets have increased to $2.5 billion dollars annually to $10 Billion dollars since Prabhakaran died. That is 25% more than when the war was conduction by the ruthless, hearless state terrorist killing over 100,000 Tamil civilians in 1 year and operating concentration camps for 310,000 Tamil civilians for over 2 years like the Nazi leader Hitler….

            Get your head straight and thought process right.
            There is much more bad winds blowing Sri Lanka’s way especially from the East and West as well as the North from India.. Hanging on to the Pakistanis, Iranians and the Chinese are not going to save the Sinhalese… Sri Lanka is swimming against the current and it will be an uphill task of monumental proportions while the Rajapakses suck the blood of every single Sri Lankan running a corrupt regime like no other in this world.

              ‘Do not forget nearly 60-70 million Tamils around the world love and respect Prabhakaran despite he being dead for 4 years ‘

              Donald J Gnanakone

              Do you think all Tamils are as stupid as you?

              Anyone who loves and respect a criminal who was responsible for kiiling and waging a war for 30years must be crazy.

              If you love him and miss VP so much why not mourn for the rest of your life and leave this nation to heal on its own?

              When were you last lived in Sri Lanka? What do you know how Sri Lankans feel?

              Donald Gnanakone,

              Is this your own opinion of VP or after you spoke to educated Tamils living around the world and Sri Lanka.

              What I found was, many of them are mad of VP’s actions that led to the down fall of LTTE and the tamil community.

              Who is the Mad man who killed many of their own Race who were opponents and critiques of his ideology. There’s no excuse to murder anybody, simply because he opposes your opinion.

              1)Did you draw up a list of Elete, educated,highly qualified professionals and politicians of you own tamil race that became victims under VP.

              2)What is VP’s educational qualifications, his family back ground and his friends and relatives. Who were they.

              3)How many both foreign and local mediations came for mediate with VP who refused all of them asking nothing but EELAM, and he as king.

              4)How many times VP attacked both Govt. targets, army camps, economic, civilian and religious targets while peace negotiations were going on.

              5)Why VP killed Rajive Gandhi knowing that he will be cornered by India and the world.

              6)Why VP kept civilians as Human shields and fought using them as cannon fodder.

              7)Why VP duped both International community and Sri Lanka Govt. Ran away when it came to final signing of documents.

              8) Why VP refused the Chief Minister Post given to him to control both North and East.

              9)Why Karuna left LTTE.

              10)Why TELO, EPRLF,TNA and other liberation organizations left LTTE.

              These are just a few of VP’s blunders that need answers.

              You know what…….Even if VP got his Tamil Eelam…..still he would have been a burden to his own tamil community than GOSL…….Also he planned to run as a dictator than a democratic ruler in his Eelam state.

              This is the same system carried out bu GOSL now with killing political opponents, Journalists, reporters, bribing opposition parliament members,suppressing media, police etc, with no domocratic governance at all.

              Where’s Independence police commission, Judiciary, media,press, TV.
              Cangaroo courts,buffalo solja,police,Parliament pin padiyas are it’s governing body.

              No Megalomaniacs survived in the world. Same with Kings.

              What VP got at Nanthikandal GOSL will get in……….Your guess.

    ‘’Each and every Government which held office from 1948 till the present bear culpability for the failure to achieve good governance, national unity and a framework of peace, stability and economic development in which all ethnic, religious and other groups could live in security and equality. Our inability to manage our own internal affairs has led to foreign intervention but more seriously has led to the taking of arms by a desperate group of our citizens. we need to rectify this bad governance. We have already missed several opportunities in the past. We need to have State reform; we need to have rule of law established; we need to ensure non discrimination amongst our citizens; we need to have devolution of power and a tolerance of dissent and a strengthening of democratic institutions’’ – Jayantha Dhanapala’s submission to Lessons Learnt and Reconciliation Commission(LLRC), August 2010
