Herman Guneratne was arrested by Matara police last evening after he used a personal weapon to shoot at pro-Ranil protestors during what was supposed to be a peaceful march to oust UNP Leader. He was produced before the Matara Additional Magistrate today and remanded. Herman is the father of expelled UNP reformist and Southern Provincial Councillor Maithri Guneratne.

Both SLFP & UNP have an endless supply of thugs. We have seen plenty of examples of their tyranny over 65 years.
Sri Lanka will not make much progress by replacing SLFP thuggery with UNP violence.
Sri Lanka needs and deserves new alternatives. Country has an endless supply of very talented, honest people for leadership.
However, these two rotten, family run, corrupt parties choke emergence of such new talent. Fearing the end of this horrible status quo. Where we have alternating rule by either SLFP or UNP.
Sri Lanka must end that for good. Earlier the better.

Ben Hurling, RW does not condone thuggery as MR cultivates it. For that matter have you ever seen RW arguing in a vulgar manner as MR behaves, even when being interviewed. No RW never has been seen in bad temper ever. RW has loads of patience and can endure any insult heaped. That is a supreme quality of a Cultured Human Being, fit to be a Leader.

Do not take my comments too personally as an attack on RW.
Ranil may not be the worst in the UNP. He might even be the best in a basket of UNP’s rotten apples.
My point is Sri Lanka must end alternating monopoly on power by these two disfunctional parties. Both SLFP & UNP are highly corrupt. Both have a mired in a very violent past.
We have seen repeat performances by both UNP & SLFP over 65 years. Look at Sri Lanka now. It is a place from which citizens escape even by sinking boats. Shameful!

Ben I do concede that both Parties the UNP and the SLFP have contributed to the chaos prevalent in the country today. It is for that reason that the Corrupt UNP members are sitting as Ministers in the MR Govt happily enjoying the perks. In such a scenario RW stands out above Party Politics eschewing Confrontational Politics. RW has to a great extent cleanse the UNP thanks to MR. Unfortunately some do not understand the value of RW. There are some unwanted elements in the UNP. Ranil with other seasoned politicians will have to tackle it patiently. These unwanted elements do not realize that failures are pillars of success. There is suspicion that some sabotages are taking place to erase UNP in the minds of the people. When the lawyers went on protest on the impeachment issue, the other professionals should have joined. This is where the national political parties like UNP made blunders. Here is a case Herman Guneratne would have expected something if he acts against the pro-Ranil protestors which could have been a possibility. Ranil Mangala, Karu Jayasooriya and others should act with great caution in the best interests of the country when the country is marching towards a totalitarian State.

The video clearly shows who attacked whom first.Mangala’s thugs got some of their on medicine from a 75 year old man who narrowly survived an attack from a guy with a pole and had to defend himself.
It is an absolute disgrace that the police watched while the thugs are attacking,but are quick to arrest the man who was defending and doing their duties.Also mangala and his thugs go scot free.
