Some Mutiny In TNA Ranks Over Wigneswaran Taking Oaths Before Mahinda

Sections of the TNA are said to be unhappy over the party’s decision to allow Chief Minister C.V. Wigneswaran to take his official oaths before President Mahinda Rajapaksa, the Colombo Telegraph learns.

Ananthi Sasitharan

General Secretary of ITAK the TNA’s main constituent party Marvai Senathirajah will not attend Wigneswaran’s oath taking tomorrow at Temple Trees.

However Senathirajah told a weekend newspaper in Colombo that Wigneswaran’s swearing in should not be made a fuss over.

Wife of former LTTE Political Wing Leader Ananthi Sasitharan is also unhappy with the TNA decision Colombo Telegraph learns.

Sasitharan has told parties close to her that she may not attend the oath taking ceremony in Jaffna being organised by the TNA for Friday.

Justice Wigneswaran will take his oaths before the President at 9:30 am tomorrow.

tamil national alliance politicians should behave maturely.they should not view oath taking in temple trees as a capitulation rather it is a constitutional requirement which has to be strictly adhered to.tamil national alliance which has not enjoyed power will face lot of stumbling blocks and opposition this can be sorted out only with a good rapport with centre.let tamils of northern province savour the historic moment not by creating controversies rather by creating goodwill.

I recommend Wigneswaren not to take oath from a war criminal and a killer. If he did take oath from the Presiden Rajaponsy it will dissapoint the Tamils in north and make this war criminal look like a saint infront of the internation community. It would be like taking Oath from the Devil itself.

TNA members should grow up – put the past behind and stop fighting for post and positions and work in the TEAM to SERVE THE PEOPLE THEY CLAIM TO REPRESENT.
It is the Tamil people who live in the norther Province who were most affected by the war that will suffer if the TNA does not have a good relationship with Colombo regime. The hot air diaspora should SHUT UP and stop being a barrier to moving on while living comfortably overseas and living off the conflict in Lanka.
The TNA is a mess because it takes two steps forward and ten steps back each time it moves..
TNA members needs to make working for the people rather than themselves the PRIORITY. All the ENDLESS pathetic infighting and delay on appointing the ministers means that the real job of work to be done to start work to have a people centered development is being DELAYED and it people on the ground SUFFER.
The Tamil politicians and Diaspora like their Sinhala counterparts are sorry to say the SCUM OF THE EARTH – only interested in positions and perks and hot air grandstanding!

What is important to realize is that whatever the faults of MR he is still the president of this country. We must respect the authority vested in him by the constitution. The fact that he is racist is a personal trait, and should not be considered when he his functioning in his official capacity.

I salute the CM of the NP for his brave stance and for taking the moral high ground. Well done!

        J.Muthu

        Thanks for your quick fire.

“do you believe this Sinhala Buddhist ready for peace”

        No I don’t.

Like your people the Sinhala/Buddhists also thrive on conflict. If conflict is removed they will commit suicide en masse. The Sinhala/Buddhist state will collapse, there wouldn’t be any worthwhile reason for its existence. The purpose of this Sinhala/Buddhist state is to exist in perpetual conflict and destruction, the way VP lived and died. Following the end of war some how the Sinhala/Buddhist found excuses to renew the state of permanent conflict, they openned a new front against Muslims.

        “Do you know what I want….Thamil ealam….”

After Eelam what is next, two armies, two navies, two air forces confronting each other on 24/7/52 basis. Learn from Pakistan and Indian history. Forget the International Community they will tow Indian line anyway, but how would you convince Hindians who believe Sri Lanka is the Sinhala/state of India?

There is only one solution, it might work only if I could get the IC to force the Sinhalese and Tamils to leave my ancestral land. India is a vast country your people could chose to live in Tamilnadu and the Sinhalese could opt for Bihar. The distance between these two regions would ensure your safety, security and dignity.

        Do you agree with me?

Not for just a few but yet for many, the ghost of the “Jaffna Boycott” and “Boycott Politics” of subsequent 8 decades ars are still haunting them.

In the whole world a sea change has taken place since the 2001 twin tower attack of 9/11. It is unwise not to take cognizance of it.

In the political affairs of Sri Lanka, after 5/18, 2009, a cataclysmic change has come about in the Sinhala Tamil equation.

With prudent assessment of altered circumstances, the TNA leadership is charting a pragmatic course. Old notes are no longer legal tender under the new currency.

The new Tamil currency is shameless booty licking Chingala war criminals.

      Fantastic!

It gives them a license to do what they have been doing all along. Now Tamils are totally screwed up because of these petty power hungry action.

International community will think Tamils are a joke. Vigneswaran is letting down the international community too. Now Rajafucksa will be off the hook in 2014 UNHRC. Why Tamils always dig they grave?

  • 0

To be expected when the TNA is formed of diverse post-war groupings who will, hopefully, narrow their parochial interests in the wider
opportunities opening to them. The immediate future gives them many avenues to serve the Tamil Nation that has seen so much of blood, horror and now semblance of much yearned for peace. Predictably, demagogues in Sinhala chauvinism too will respond no differently.

navin, good point.Second mistake of wignesvaran’s political life.First mistake was to enter dirty politics of srilanka.

He was pandering to hardline elements because i think he must have been worried about getting less preferential votes than ananthi. There was a talk that once the preferences are seen the chief minister nominee should be changed accordingly. He got 135000 votes while ananthi who is LTTE chief Elilan’s wife got 87000.If it was the other way about she would have become the chief minister. What do sinhalese prefer a sheep in wolf’s clothing or a wolf in sheeps clothing.Mahinda with his vast political experience knows all this and i have not heard him criticize wiggie.Actually Wiggie must be wondering how to get rid of the LTTE baggage and still survive.DBSJ described this hilariously when he said in his article that it was like the carter who saw an old woman carrying a heavy baggage on her head and felt sorry and told her to sit in his cart and after some time he turned back and saw that the baggage was still on her head and not in the cart.

“What do sinhalese prefer a sheep in wolf’s clothing or a wolf in sheeps clothing”

sorry, made a mistake there. It should be what would sinhalese prefer a sheep in wolf’s clothing or a wolf in wolf clothing.

because ananthi is certainly the latter.

BTW i would not be surprised if mahinda advised wiggie a bit of praise for prabha(not too much) would help in his new career.

Shankar – D.B.S Jeyarajah is open in his wish to see Vigneswaren’s Council fail. His articles from a fortnight before Sept 21 and after is clear on this. He tried hard to mislead the Tamil voters in the North. Many believe him to be an Agent of the Mahinda Sinhala Govt as well as another intelligence agency. Many readers are made to believe the man is faultless. While he is
good at doing his stories after much research, I remember he wrote Prabakaran was killed on two occasions long before May 2009.

          Thamilthambi

          • 0
            0

Thamilthambi,i still believe that DBSJ has the tamil peoples welfare first and foremost at heart. If he is aligning himself now with mahinda as you claim then it is because he may be feeling that it is the best way to go for the tamil people.I remember when he advised the LTTE to change course at one time he was labelled a traitor and his head and leg broken by them. Now if the arrogant fellows can look back they would have seen the wisdom of his words, but the type of fellows they are they would not have even a twinge of conscience about what they did to him as to countless others who did not agree with them that they labelled as traitors.
So we should not jump to conclusions here about our fellow tamils who may be having differing views on how to go forward in order to maximise the benefits to the tamil people. We should not fight among ourselves due to differing views. The tamil peoples welfare should be the sole objective and not any special interest groups that try to benefit from the suffering of our people.None of us could be sure whether our thinking is right or the other persons, only time will tell and we have to wait and see. There is nothing wrong with being flexible and changing direction if we see that the environment is changing.Thats where the LTTE went wrong, they were very inflexible characters.

Let us look at matters in perspective. MR going across to Jaffna for the swearing-in can be interpreted on the Sinhala side differently to the disadvantage of the regime. After all, TNA/ITAK has accepted to work within an undivided Sri Lanka and President Rajapakse is the head of the whole country – irrespective of whether one accepts this or not. Colombo is the Capital of the country. The business of making peace and moving towards reconciliation takes both sides of the divide. It is time everyone gives Peace a chance – for starters. Nelson Mandela, Desmond Tutu and friends were prepared to forget recent and deep wounds for a united and peaceful South Africa. And they made it happen. That’s a good example to follow.

According to saritham.com (not necessarily the most reliable), Ananthi is referring to Wigneswaran as a traitor! So the candidate who polled the second highest number of votes calls the candidate who polled the highest number of votes a traitor, even before they have all been sworn in and had their first official meeting. How sad? Clearly, she is showing her stripes. Old habits of calling anyone who has a different view a traitor, tie them to a lamp post and shooting them is something she will find difficult to get rid of in her line of thinking. Sambanthan is also getting it wrong — no collective decision-making with buy-in from the lower ranks; no democratic decision-making over sensitive issues, just a “we know everything, shut up and listen” type authoritarian attitude. Poor man Wigneswaran is not used to this type of politics. Unless he exerts his personal authority, sets up decision-making structures and processes, and sacks anyone who does not fall in line with collectively made decisions, he will see chaos. A very bad start, which must be music in the ears of those who wanted the Provincial Council to fail even before the elections were held. (Senathirajah running off to hide in India is a great joke, without that to make us laugh, concerned Tamils might feel really sad.)

  • 0
    0

TNA has already took decision to contest and work NPC at their best ability to help the badly affected masses of the province within the existing provisions of 13A. They should not bother much about who administer the oath, whether it is X or Y. Halfheartedness should be abandoned. The issue should be what immediate action to be taken to help the people through the council.

  • 0
    0

Marvai Senathirajah and Ananthi Sasitharan should realize that this is not the time to show their emotions. What matters is diplomacy. You have to get around MR and try to reconcile. These extremists if I may call it properly should make the government to realize and share the feelings of the Tamils. These extremists should learn from history, especially from Bismark of Germany and Cavun Cavoor of Italy before the unification of their countries. C.V.Wigneswaran, R.Sambandan and Sumanthiran know how to handle this situation. Wait patiently and follow their advice. Everything should be within the confinement of law and should there be any obstacles, place the ball in the India’s court. First try to win the hearts of the Sinhalese.

This is NOT what Tamil people voted for!

If they wanted a Rajafucksa booty licker they would have given highest preference to that EPDP guy.

Now no difference between EPDP and TNA.

There is no need to swear in in front of the president or the governor. He can do it at a TNA office. What cheap, senile, naïve, shameless nonsense is this. No wonder Tamils have NO dignity left after 2009. Tamil DEFEATIST mentality.

    • 0
      0

Ananthi Sasitharan should have realized that the attack on her vehicle and residence by EPDP goons with army support helped her to garner a great deal of voter sympathy, and she should have shown her gratitude by not missing out on the occasion when the first democratically CM for the NPC was taking oath of office.
Now she cannot weep she was not given a portfolio.

      • 0
        0

Had she attended the swearing in ceremony, there would certainly have been a change of heart and she would have expected a rousing welcome. Diplomacy is what matters. She missed a fine opportunity. If we respect the enemy, it would have pricked his conscience. This is where sportsmanship is exposed.

Why do you want to play with the lives of poor Sri Lankan Tamils?

(1)Are you a disguised Sinhala Buddhist extremist who wants to create problems to Tamils?
(2)Are you a Muslim extremist who wants to create problems between Tamils and Sinhalese?
(3)Are you a Tamilnadu Tamil who wants to cover up all the political and economic problems facing the TN people by burning the SL North and East?
      (4) Are you a Diaspora Tamil who fears about loosing your luxury life in Canada, Aus or Europe with the arrival of peace in SL?
      (5) Are you a SL tamil who wants to put your own people in trouble again and again?

If you belong to the fifth which is the worst ever, shut your filthy mouth up and go to number 3 (TN) or 4 (Diaspora)? No more troubles for us pls…..

CM Wigneshwaran is purely a SL Tamil. He is decent, professional and rational (not radical). He doesn’t want to listen to the people like you coming from the above 5 categories. Thats why he already took oath from the Sinhala Buddhist extremist President MARA. Thats how he should act if he wants to deliver something to our people. He has to be strategical to bring back us peace and dignity.

One can understand their unhappiness. But let them keep it to themselves and not make a big fuss over it. Politics cannot always run on emotions;one has to be pragmatic and mindful of the fact that the world is watching every step of the elected Tamil leadership. First and foremost let them stop the shameful scramble for powerless positions in the Council!

I am sure Chief Minister Wigneswaran understands the people’s concern. However, we should not make this issue very seriously. It is a custom and a requirement to take oath under Sri lankan constitution. Tamils should build up a solid case to justify our struggle for finding a solution based on the right of self determination. The silence of guns at Mullivaygal was an start of building our case against Sri Lanka. It clearly proved that Sri Lanka used violence against Tamils delibrate and war crimes and crimes against humanity are committed by Sri Lanka. Further the NPC elections proved that Sri Lanka was against democracy and military was used against democracy. Next phase is the functioning of NPC. We all know well that Sinhala state is going to block the functioning of NPC. It is our duty to request our rights democratically to the head of Sri Lanka and if he denies then we should protest and add to the evidence base to strengthen our call for self determination.

Looks like a FEW Tamils have a backbone. Very rare!

They are the people who came crawling with white flags. I don’t expect any dignity from them.

Vigneswaran has betrayed Tamils by going on all fours to the feet of the NPC military governor and SL president who is the military commander in chief. He will be a totally senile cheap minister.

Tamils have been fooled YET again. Very easy to fool these foolish Tamil modayas.

I agree with Jayakarthik that only a rapprochement with Sinhala leadership/peole will lead to some form of sympathy towards long-suffering Tamils. The president is the elected head of Sri Lanka, the minorities have no choice other than legally followng the procedtures available to them. The other alternative is to take oath in front of the military governor appointed by the president and has been behaving like a viceroy.

The weaker section of the society either poliyically or socially has to give in to the stronger section. Here we have to learn from world statemen like Mahathma Gandhi, Nelson Mandela and the like. Tey suffered immensely to the extent of being in prison for most part of their lives simply because they were fighting for justice to the oppressed and persecuted people. With all the suffering they were subjected to by the ruling leadership they still forgave the oppressors and gained the freedom for the people and rspect of the world. As a minority that has suffered over 60 years the leadership of it must rise above the oppressors and show the world they are prepared to go to extent in order to free our people from the oppression. If the mojoritarian leadership still ill treat the minorities the international community will do something to alleviate the sufferings and seek a tangible solution.

Those who object to Mr Wignrswaran’s oath has no alternative but to continue on the failed path of suffering.
The people can only bare so much pain and if they give up and join forces with the rulers and the collaboraters Tamils will lose their will to stand up.

He took oaths not in front of Mahinda Rajapaksha but in front of the President of Sri Lanka who has solemnly pledged to uphold.. safeguard and work according to the Constitution of the Country….now it is the job of TNA to ensure that the President of Sri Lanka acts as he has pledged…13th Ammendment is a part of the Constitution…

  • 0
    0

There are two ways of approaching this, one to be belligerent and obstinate and buck the constitution but that will result in the TNA losing credibility in th India and the West. This is a long term struggle, guns did not bring a solution, discussions did not either. But now the dynamics are different, there is the IC and India watching the affairs of the GOSL and the TNA. So, if they play along and for starters get a full implementation of 13A, they have made a huge stride forward towards a form of federalism under a unitary state and this will bring the support of the whole world. So, wisdom is what is required here not foolishness.

The people who voted for TNA did not consider where VW was going to take his oaths. They only wanted to demonstrate their hatred for his despical Govt. that was taking their dignity away.
Once the TNA decided to take this direction of a unted country under the present constitution, logic will dictate that they have to take their oaths within the terms dictated by the same constitution.
I cannot understand what all this fuss is about.
What they do with their political rights now for the betterment of the Denigrated Tamils is what that would matter in the long run.
Therefore will the elected lot wake up to this fact?

Difference between an educated balanced person handling matters and the uneducated – unbalanced person handling the same situation has been clearly displayed in this article. Ananthi is being manipulated, what happened to her is wrong, but living in the past will not solve any issues. One has to move forward and operate within the constitution of the country. Ananthi is frozen in the past and Chief Minister Justice Wigneswaran is looking forward and re-aligning the path that Tamils in the North have been walking in the past. Ananthi is a puppet in the hands of the hardliners among the Northern politicians and the diaspora. Yes Ananthi’s husbands death has to be answered but at the same time the progress within a united Sri Lanka of the Tamils should also progress at a much faster pace for the benefit of all Tamils, this is exactly what Chief Minister and Justice Wigneswaran is doing. Well done CM.

Ananthi sidelined as 89,000 Tamil war widows are sidelined.

    Good.

Now Tamils have lost faith in the ballot.

      Fathima Fukushima,
Do not worry. C.V.Wigneswaran has that in mind. He will do something to lift their lives from misery. Be patient. Ananthi got votes because of sympathy. She should listen to C.V.Wigneswaran and act accordingly which will lift her image.

This is a clear demonstration of the mental incapacity of Northern representatives to work in a democratic governance system. They were under the jackboot of Sun God for over two decades and have no experience in democratic governance. Boycott politics never worked in the past and never will in the future too. Ultimately it would result in furthering Northern Tamil suffering. Anyway, that was their choice.
