The audio is a bit distorted and difficult to follow clearly. The example of a handful of Muslims cheering for Pakistan is totally out of context here. The reference to the division of the nation into three is also unnecessary in this context. They only encourage more animosity in the hearts and minds of the listeners.

What is the status of a Sri Lankan migrant in Australia cheering for Sri Lanka having given up his nationality and presently holding an Aussie passport?

The wars fought by nations and people throughout history need to judged by the faith those individuals adhered to since that is the guiding factor that makes them do what they do even if such wars were not fought in the name of their faiths. By this analogy we have China, Japan, Burma, Thailand and now Sri Lanka to analyze how they killed, tortured, and destroyed humanity through time.

An organization like the BBS, who openly espouse hate and carry out evil actions in full public view with the support and assistance of the law and the state must be condemned by all decent human beings irrespective of their own affiliations, politically, religious, and otherwise.

He or She will still cheer for Sri Lanka irrespective very similar to a SL migrating to Saudi Arabia giving up his/her nationality and presently holding a Saudi passport for their own reasons. Its NOT anybody’s business to know the reasons.

Fazli, I said that i am taking an EXTREME example to ILLUSTRATE a point. Now YOU HAVE taken things out of context. :)

One does not take an EXTREME example to illustrate a GENERAL point, dumbo! Get real and just admit that you are a bigot pretending otherwise

        @Sunil

Well said Sunil. Only an EXTREMIST uses an EXTREME example to illustrate a point.

why didn’t you use a example of how pakistan supported sri lanka during the 1996 world cup campaign and all the other matches to highlight the similarities. you are indirectly trying to arouse racial sentiment by using extreme example pretending to be a moderator

      Malinda,
Either you are with them or against them. You should have seen by now that this lot takes nothing in between.

This is the same lot that voted against Rajapakse in 2005 and continued to oppose the war against terrorism throughout, and again that voted in toto against him in 2010. In the name of democracy, they’ll back anything and everything to upset this apple cart. But what they don’t know is that, Sinhala Buddhists have been observing their very attitude and outlook throughout. And that is exactly what set the mood for majority to back BBS. If BBS hadn’t come up, something tougher may certainly would have materialized in its place.

My best guesses on why the negative ratings to this thread:

Ignorance of the truth and sheer idiocy.

I suppose Lankans need a rational ethics – as a precondition of rebirth but not religious emotions entwined in flowers fangs.

    Happily Agnostic

What I really find difficult to comprehend from those who are pampering with the BBS and trying to deviate the whole epic to a different direction is their failure to see the hatred and evil spewing out from men in robes. If this is not sufficient to know what is good or bad then I really do not know what to say. Especially, in Buddhism where it is crystal clear about how one must treat his/her fellow creatures.

This speech reminded me of the old “Ow Na Ba” radio program. Previously reading his articles I assumed pandering comes naturally to him but looks like he has to labor on his feet. Notice he never denounced the BBS. The best he can do is say BBS actions are not very “Buddhist like”. Then he goes on to say social, economic, law and moral reasons exist for the existence of BBS. I bet he thinks we’re too dumb to understand if he were to mention them. But I must say, I’ve never seen him justify the existence of the LTTE on economic and social reasons before. Considering what he’s got to defend it is understandable.

At 5:30 he tries so hard not to admit the government has failed to uphold law and order, but the poor SOB pulls it off; very good. Finally he wonders if things are ablaze and if he is too late; WHAAAAT? What rock has he been under for the last 30 years. He must think its a brand new population of 20million after May of 2009.

With people like these opposing the BBS it doesn’t need supporters now, does it?

Hon. Sumanthiran – Please take corrective measures to restore the rights of the Muslims and Tamils in the North and East and prevent the theft of Property and Honour by the Oligarchy. The responsibility of the silent majority of all community keeping their month shut except for a few patriotic Sri Lankans. We Muslims appreciate you standing up in place of our purchased commodity of Muslim politicians. When Morality declines the rich and powerful takes control of the resources by unfair measures
