The plan apparently is to sneak in Gotabaya into parliament as an appointed MP and thereafter appoint him a minister. According to Sunday Times the defense portfolio is constitutionally mandated to be the president’s. Thus, GR can only be a deputy minister, if the defense establishment is to continue to be under his purview.
The new government if composed of the UPFA and under MR as president, should be registered under an amended companies act as ‘ Rajapakse and Company (no liability)’, to reflect the sad consolidation of family hegemony in this country!

Perhaps the Govt should consider an amendment to have the Defence Portfolio under a Minister ,if Gota is going to contest.
Who is better to protect our inhabitants from external as well as internal threats going forward.
If this talk about Modi Army becoming the enforcer for Miss Pillai, Diaspora and the new pro LTTE Tamil Nadu to give Mr Sambandan self rule, we need a solid defence minister for at least another 5 years.
The forthcoming referendum on the 13 A plus can be teed up with the Defence Minister Amendment (DFA)as well.

Mangala Samaraweera should contest in Colombo against Gota Rajapksa.
That is the only way he can meet Rajapksa in the chamber, unless the Christian Faction sneaks him through the 2nd eleven list.
But it will be tough unless Mangala get on to something which he can relate to and be acceptable to the intelligentsia which is the guts of the Colombo Electorate.
