Visibly Angry Sirisena Hits Out At CC: Says He Didn’t Act Like A Toddler And Top Lawyers Advised Him On Gazettes

President Maithripala Sirisena, speaking after Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe‘s swearing-in, said his statement on not giving the premiership to the UNP Leader even if 225 MPs approved of it only reflected his personal opinion.

Sirisena

“My personal opinion on this matter still remains unchanged. But, I decided to reappoint Ranil Wickremesinghe as the Prime Minister as I have the utmost respect for parliamentary traditions,” Sirisena said in his speech.

He also referred to several statements made by pro-UNP activists that the President’s actions could lead to violence and Sirisena might suffer the same fate as Gaddafi. “Sri Lanka had many leaders in the past who faced numerous problems. Some of them, like JR Jayewardene, ruled the country with an iron fist. But no one dared to make such claims, as they knew the dire consequences of such threats.”

“In my case”, the President said, “they freely express their anger as they know I won’t take revenge. I am the kind of leader who will open the gates of my house even if the public wants to lay siege to my residence. I will allow unruly protestors to harm me if that is their wish.”

Commenting on the Central Bank bond issue. Sirisena said the previous government hampered investigations into the Bond issue and allowed former Central Bank Governor Arjuna Mahendran to abscond the law enforcement authorities.

He also added bond scams took place from 2008 and the Bond Commission stressed the need for a forensic investigation to unearth details about such scams. “To date, a forensic investigation has been carried out by the Central Bank over the possible scams that have taken place since 2008. Even this morning I checked this matter with the Central Bank Governor and he confirmed that no action had been taken.”

Sirisena also stated that the appointments made by the Constitutional Council established under the 19th Amendment are questionable. He said the Constitutional Council refused to appoint several nominees, recommended by him, to the judiciary.

“They have turned down the names of some senior judges recommended by me. As a result, there are concerns in the legal circles that the senior judges do not get the promotions they deserve. But I have done my part by recommending their names. This brings the impartiality of the Constitutional Council into question,” Sirisena added.

Sirisena also added that he acted on the advice of legal experts and “high profile” Presidents Counsel when he issued gazette notifications which were later overturned by the judiciary.

“I did not act like a toddler. I consulted high-profile lawyers and well-known legal experts. Some of the finest lawyers in the country defended my conduct in the judiciary. This means I have acted in good faith, in accordance with the advice given to me,” he added.

Mr. President: Arrest the guy/s who wanted you to go the way GAdhaffi went. they would say that UNP party members asked him to ssay so (GOd Munneswara). Anyway, I heard President already knows it.

There is no shame in displaying his defeat as it was a fame for the Sira Presidency. Nobody in the world will do anything like it. So, Sira is exceptional to do foolish thing. World must know more about him. Media should now work for ethics and not act as a proxy agents to the MaRa Mafia team.

The last thing you learn by this now is that its a game from this whole drama. Its a game theory that the ruling Elite Mafia has tried and tested and is playing with our future for sure as they have already destroyed our past during 70+ years of rule conducted by the same team in turns. The MaRa team experimented their usual Racist/Fascist agenda and the UNP playing a defensive role in showing the “helplessness” card. Garbage Sira played the villain role by violating every norm and niceties of the democracy thereby showing the world and the world and to the future Racist leaning corrupt politically ambitious mis adventurers that anybody can do anything and come out safely without any harm if there is a window of opportunity to do the WRONG thing. This is a social engineering that was experimented. Also, they realised that the majority of the people are not ready to allow to destroy the system by the crooks who call themselves as the so called ‘Leaders’….

So, Sira should play the damage control tactics to keep the people guessing……Who will trust the words of SIRA ??? no one… not even MaRa will trust him…..Only the Govigama Ruling Elite Mafia gang will trust him as he will do any bidding of the Mafia Plans.

Ranil is largely responsible for president taking the initial action to sack him and appointing MR as PM. Ranil should know to manage Maithri before managing the country. He should do important state matters in consultation with the President. Not take unitary decisions. He should have known that even after President stopping action on some decisions made by Ranil. He lost his head. All what Maithri says in this speech is quite true. Ranil has some strengths. Hereafter at least Ranil must be cautious. Work in consultation with the President.

      As a matter of fact

People gave the mandate for RW to go together with the president, even though president’s MPs have left the govt. the mandate valid to be together only. PM’s failure for that amounts to the violation of people’s expectation & may cause further havoc in the country.

UNP MPs should know that they have 105 seats because of that unless they could not have scored more than 60 so their undue pride may call for disaster in the party.

      • 1
        0

Yes, 105 seats because before the August 2015 General Elections Maithri said that he wouldn’t make Mahinda Prime Minister even if he won the election.
        .
My3 can be mocked for being inconsistent. My3 may not understand the intricacies of the law. My3 on ethnic issues has not had a clear over-view.

    Backboneless Sirisena
“I have the utmost respect for parliamentary traditions,….”
This is another brick like when you said in 2015 ” I will never regroup with Mahinda Rajapakse and see justice is done to all those who painfully suffered at the hands of Rajapakse.
If you respected Parliamentary traditions then why did you dissolve Parliament before it was due. Come on man, it was not because you respect Parliamentary traditions that made you do what you did but it was the Supreme court ruling that got it done.
Had you would have thought carefully and not dissolved the parliament or reversed before the court ordered then there is some credit to you. You are trying to claim credit which you are not entitled for. You created unnecessary mayhem and country lost millions due to your ego action and now you are claiming credit to have brought peace! What a joke. You create havoc and then you were stopped and then you claim you brought peace and take credit for it.
May be you got wrong advise from people like the Attorney General who should have known better especially when the ruling was unanimous and so no doubt about the legality and your Attorney General patted your back. You should check his brains when he was far too way off and he could not predict the correct answer and advise you and he brought shame on you. You are better off sacking him.
So with GL Pieris who calls himself a Professor in Law and have written many books (but never practice law in a court) and he too was far way off . You have wrong advisers.

Just wondering why all these spineless senior UNF members stayed there listening like small kids, this mad person’s idiotic sermon, accusing them of what they did during the last 3 1/2 years without any protest. If Lakshman Kiriella was present things would have been different. after the lecture it was embarrassing to see DEPATH NAYA SAJITH staying close to the mad man and Harsha de Silva shaking hands with the mad person who attacked their own leader.

        Dear Ajith E.,
        .
Thanks for accurately reminding us of some of the many serious frauds that have not been investigated. We’re now looking at these uninvestigated misdemeanors when we’re nearing the end of the period for which we elected “Yahapalanaya”.
        .
It now looks to meas though none of the crimes committed by the Rajapaksas will ever be investigated.
        .
As for the period when righteousness was supposed to reign, you’ve reminded us of three items that seemed for some time to be serious matters of concern. So many have forgotten the details.
        .
Take the first: you are clear about what happened; so many have forgotten, some now think that Dr Mahanama was the “Private Secretary”. Here’s the full story – not comfortable for me to recall it!

        .
“Douglas” first gave us the news the previous night when we were reading Emil vdP’s complaint about our hypocrisy regarding crimes that we claim needn’t be investigated:

        https://www.colombotelegraph.com/index.php/time-to-think-in-black-white/

Politics too often determine how we regard crime and anti-social behaviour. The Law Courts seem to have regained some credibility; we’ve got to pressurise the government to investigate all crime.

MY3 you are a person who has acted in the interest of the country.

In the coming years people will realise this.

You acted against Mahinda when NO one had the guts to stand up against him Including the Messiah Ranil W.

You acted against Ranil when he was acting against the interest of SL.

But since you MY3 made the mistake of approving 19th amendment without thinking you have lost critical Executive Powers once commanded by the President. (president should command these powers until Electoral, preferential Election System and a senate based on proportional representation with reduced provinces is established..

The true sign of someone who cares about the people WILL BE there approach to ELECTORAL REFORM so that people CAN elect THEIR OWN REPRESENTATIVES to the Parliament….

The advised from the Top Lawyers should be presented to the parliament to act democratically if not it will be seen as a hidden agenda as me a toddler this is my understanding. It was a Fresh Start but he stuffed it.

Spineless UNPers sitting there like deaf and dumb MP s while the mad hatter Sirisena was giving them and their leader a mouthful. They should have walked out with Ranil as soon as this mad hatter opened his mouth, because he is talking as if he has done them a favor. What bullshit favor Sirisena is bound to appoint Ranil as the law says. The UNP ers must not act like underdogs to this man. Sirisena and Mahinda must be
Behind bars for inciting and accusing the foreign countries of creating trouble in Sri Lanka when it is these
two who are responsible for all the troubles in the country.

    • 7
      0

      Very true. My exact thoughts!

After installing an illegal government through a coup ……. for which Sirisena and Mahinda would have ended up in jail in any other democratic country, idiot Ranil and the UNP is allowing Sirena and Mahinda to take the moral high ground as if they did it for the benefit of the country! What a load of hogwash.

Mark my words, in another few weeks Ranil will be left holding the baby for the mess and Sirisena and Mahinda will come out of this smelling of roses. And trounce the UNP in the next election.

The stiff upper lip might work in other civilized countries but in Lanka no one appreciates.

Mahinda and Sirisena’s constant false propaganda should be smothered with UNPs propaganda. The UNP has enough truth to use and they don’t have to resort to lies ………… but now that Ranil’s got the premiership back, he’ll again fall asleep at the wheel till the next crisis.

Although I support Ranil for the sake of the country ……….. he is one of the laziest people I’ve ever seen. The habit of going ahhhhh in mid-sentence is indicative of a lazy mind. If you get up to speak an idea should be formed in your head what you are going to say …….. if you have a well thought out plan for anything one should be able to articulate it well. The fact he goes ahhhhh indicates he doesn’t know (or forgotten) what to say next.

Having said all that ……….. I have to hand it to him; he and the wife has class ……… but wasted in a country full of Rajapakses/Sirisenas/Weerawansas/Gamanpilas ………..

    • 2

You should be an idiot not to have sensed it, how can the UNPrs behave other way around. Very same ballige putha SIRISENA would have to appoint them as cabinet ministers next days. So anyone that would stand and react as done on the public stage, what could happen. I think UNPrs are a way civlized than this ballige putha Sirisena.

Sirisena has no right to point the finger at PM since SIRISENS himself stayed as if his was made a scapegoat. He just woke up that late or never woke up not knowing his powers. It took that long him to realize that he is the EXECUTIVE as appointed by People.

And he woked up 50days ago and MADE the biggest blunder ever a head of state could ever make. And now the bugger is ZERO credibility, even Ambalangoda Rukada would do better.

    • 1

I have been critical of Sirisena, MR and the anti democratic coup however, the Ranil and the MPs sat there and took it because they are well and truly guilty of most of what this fool said. The country knows it as such they had no leg to stand on. Now is a great opportunity for all honest people of all colors and creed starting from the ruling party to band together in building a truly fair Sri Lanka without racism, bias, favoritism, party petty politics, family rulers etc. etc. One thing that was clear during this whole saga was that the majority of our elected MPs still care about the electorate despite all their vices. It was also evident that there exists a bunch who will go to any lengths to further their own personal agenda. It’s now a great circuit breaker to cull the corrupt out and start a fresh set of goals for the country and promote them to the masses. The electorate is very aware and ready. We had similar opportunities in the past e.g. Tsunami, Ending the War, 2015 elections, they were all wasted. I hope this will not be a wasted opportunity. Leaders amongst you please stand up! We’re ready to support you!

As per 19th amendment, the parliament is answerable to the judiciary and the judiciary is answerable to the President and the president is answerable to the parliament.

President should have acted way before he found out that he won’t be supported for the next election.

He could have instructed the judiciary to look into these matters.

I agree with him, regarding many facts, but acting unconstitutionally was not the path.

He gives the reasons he was voted to be the President. Why did he turn his back to the people?

He claims that he is not capable of understanding the amendments made to the constitution, yet it’s the basic requirement of a politician.

It’s never my fault but it’s always someone else’s.

      Dear Suranga Gunasekera,
      .
You’ve pretty well summed up the article, the incomplete speech that we’ve been given, and the 83 comments now on display.
      .
It is exactly noon on Monday, the 17th, and yours is the last comment displayed. I could therefore have made this a comment without indent, but I am inserting this as a “Reply”.
      .
Now let the past be. That the Economy is in a shambles will become clearer during the next few weeks – not the 13 months to go before the next election that matters. Let us not kid ourselves; the electorate will make voting decisions based not on the our discussion of important abstractions here: what matters is at voting time is “cost of living” and local promises to individuals. Patronage politics. Before that, there will have to be Provincial Council Elections, of course, but they will not change the way the country as a whole is governed.
      .
I was amazed that the UNP cabinet plus Maithri Wickremasinghe sat there so long in silence. I think that it was because they had to “agree with him, regarding many facts” (your words, Suranga, within quotes). They are guilty.
      .
Maithri shows his limitations with regard to the law.
      .
Why is it that we still have only 41 minutes of a video tha clearly had more to it. The cabinet was finally shown filing out sheepishly looking pretty guilty. How is it that nobody has yet asked for the missing section?
      .
Thanks, CT, for giving us such a clear video of the section that we’ve seen. Sadly, it looks as though we will have more politics before we focus on reconcilliation.

“And Top Lawyers Advised Him On Gazettes”

That is possibly true. These top lawyers did not know their ABC’s and they were totally wrong. You should first sack the Attorney General who gave you wrong advice. He should know what the verdict will be knowing the facts. A unanimous verdict was arrived and AG was way off. Either he is completely clueless or he simply wants to be on your good side patting your back at least for a short time. Both are bad and he deserved to be sacked.

A political personality derided as the “Gamarala” from Polonnaruwa, got up-close and personal with the cosmopolitan lords, ladies and pinups of globalist elite, the Tolkien readers and the Harry Potter generation, and conducted a Master Class on democratic mass politics on prime time live television. One man in an indigenous tunic turned the national mood around and marooned the urban elite in a sea of national moral disapproval and social discontent. This was political Shaolin martial arts. Or if you prefer, Populist moral-ethical denunciation as the center of Populist politics at its best!

Well done Ranil and colleagues. One does not respond to the ravings of a lunatic. Your dignified silence was eloquent answer loud enough. Sirisena’s long harangue gives away his mortal fear of a Gaddaffi fate visiting him. Sira’s intellectual depth is such he may have never heard of Nicole Ceucescu of Romania and what happened to him and his wife. Nor the fate that befell Mussolini of Italy after WW2. If he heard of this he would croak from non-stop diarrhea.

To make a long thing short, it is clear Sira has lost his marbles – and big time too. Or did he hear of Sharmini Serasinghe’s threat to break into his house???

I am not going Kade for any politician or party. But I must say the following observations.

This is the best speech made by MY3 in front of UNF, RW and other UNF leaders. This is good because it shows that there are white coat and black trouser wearing robbers in the Cabinet and Parliament. The “Janatha Paramadhipathya ” of 5.5 million people are more important than the 225 MPs in the Parliament. I think that the President has removed the clothes of a few parliamentary members who are experts on democracy and good governance. This is the best speech made by the President in his career for a bunch corrupt politicians in the country with a coat and tie and Sinhalese national dress.

I enjoyed MY3 speech from beginning to the end. I hope that the President will have made arrangements to have a referendum soon to get the permission to hold the Parliament elections soon.

Indirectly that;s what he s implying. His so called top Legal Advisors has given him wrong advice so can they be Top when they cant interpret the law. Most common citizens realized his unconstitutional motives & Sirisena damn well knew he was flouting the constitution. This donkey said he will close the Airport & not let MR & his robbers who looted leave the country but what a rationale does he have to appoint MR as PM. Dear Melon,

There is no point of calculating all these losses and other numbers. These things would have been carried out by the Auditor General of Sri Lanka. Otherwise that is their duty.
The most important thing at this hour is a stable government selected by the people of Sri Lanka through general election. The stable government will provide a stable political, social and economic environment. That will bring the prosperity and development of Sri Lanka. The UNF government has proved beyond any doubt that they can not make the economy for the poor people of Sri Lanka. If they can not do it for the last 3 years, they can not do it for within next one and half years. Under the normal market principles, the Managers of the government (Politicians) should be sacked now. That is the shareholders of Sri Lanka’s request. The other thing is not making too much tinkering of the constitution. The people of Sri Lanka needs food, education, health other basic needs not the tinkering of constitution.

Sirisena you are a bloody disgrace so in God’s name resign before the impeachment. You have made such a fool of yourself and proved to the Sri Lankans that you are uneducated, spineless, ignorant, uncivilized, corrupt, double tongued, untrustworthy, slimy, backboneless, double crossing, low life f…ing hypocrite and liar and sob who does not respect the constitution of the country. The Supreme Court has now given a verdict that you have breached the constitution and what you have done is illegal. You do not understand or know what respectability and decency means and we in Sri Lanka are ashamed to have an idiot like you as our President. We deeply regret the decision we made appointing you as President because you have in the last month shown your true colors of being a chameleon and a patholaya and a lunatic f…. ing idiot. When we see your face on TV or on a website we want to puke and shit in your face you moron and vermin scoundrel. Wear your amuday and get back to the rice fields where you can be harnessed with the buffaloes and bury yourself in the mud and shit that is what you are used to. It is a joke that you are writing books that will contribute to the history of Sri Lanka in the future. You will go down in history as a moron and scoundrel who tried to rob the people of its democracy and brazenly broke the constitution purely with the selfish, greedy objective of staying in power and for which you were prepared to prostitute yourself by sleeping with a despot who was your enemy. Filthy lucre and power to you was so important that you sold your dirty filthy soul and betrayed the whole nation to get under MR’s Sarong to sniff his groin.

    Dear Leaders of the nation,
Now that the matter of governance of Sri Lanka is settled, better get on with it.
All citizens are waiting to see the names of ministers & deputies.
Have as small a cabinet as possible, on half the present salaries and perks until the economy picks up. Those who agree will be the true patriots.
Cut out waste from losing state entities – appoint new people in them.
No capital expenditure till income is sufficient.
Else we will become another Zimbabwe.

“Now that the matter of governance is settled”??? Fat hope!!!
Pissu Sira is still on the range. He will not allow Ranil to form a
Govt or allow the people in the country to live in peace. He will go as far as possible to what he threatened a few weeks ago “Set the country
aflame” That, the lunatic. can easily do.
