Visit To The Vatican By The President

By Fr. Sarath Iddamalgoda

The report that the President Rajapaksa soon after his return from New York has flown to the Vatican to extend an official invitation to the Pope Francis, astonished me.

It was somewhere in July this year that a delegation from the Vatican arrived in Sri Lanka to see to the logistics of the papal visit schedules for January next year. Subsequently there was also a media conference and announcements were made by the Sri Lankan Church authorities with regard to the Pope’s two-day visit. A senior police officer has also been appointed to see to the arrangements.

After all those arrangements have been made, it looks quite strange to me that  the President has now gone to the Vatican personally to invite the Pope. This gives the strange impression that the Pope, as the head of a State, has decided to visit  Sri Lanka without the consent of our government.

I cannot understand the protocol. Has this happened in previous instances when heads of States from China and Japan visited Sri Lanka? Could anyone be kind enough to explain this anomaly to me and to others who may find difficult to understand these proceedings regarding Pope’s visit?

Mahinda Vatican PopeIn fact, on two previous occasions, when the popes, namely Paul VI and John Paul II, visited Sri Lanka, there were no visits made to the Vatican by the then prime minister or the President to extend formal invitations.

What was the need for our President to spend the money of the people to make this visit to the Vatican when a papal envoy is residing at Baudhaloka Mawatha a few kilometers away from the Temple Trees?

The ambiguity of this visit by the President at a time when an election is to be held soon in Sri Lanka is really creating suspicion and leaving room for legitimate speculation.

Is the pope having second thoughts about the visit? Is he considering to cancel the intended visit because of the election that is to be held a few days or weeks before or after Pope’s visit?

Is the government planning to get the needed legitimacy through his visit? Will his visit be used by the government as a part of his election campaign to attract the votes in the Catholic belt? Is there a hidden agenda behind the visit not made known to the public? Are the Sri Lankan Church leaders also involved in a secret agenda? Or as some people wonder, is there here an appeal to  the Pope to reverse his previous decision not to visit, bless or open the massive building complex intended for an Opus Dei University constructed by the armed forces  with the dollars of the Opus Dei flowing into the country, and of course to the metropolitan church?

The media has reported also that the Sri Lankan President has mentioned to the Pope about the socio-economic development that is taking place and the high level of religious harmony prevailing in the country.

Perhaps the Pope may not be aware of the results of the recent provincial council elections in Western and Uva provinces, which indicates the people’s fast losing confidence in the governance of the President !

The popes to bless Rajapaksa? Did the Pope bless Hitler and Mussolini?

How the Rajapaksa Regime Gets Away with Murder

        By Trevor Grant

        http://www.publishing.monash.edu.au/books/sls-9781922235534.html

Author Trevor Grant in conversation with Julian Burnside AO, QC, and official launch of Sri Lanka’s Secrets,
14 August at Readings Bookshop, Carlton, 6 for 6.30pm

As the civil war in Sri Lanka drew to its bloody end in 2009 the government of this island nation removed its protection from UN officials and employees, who, along with other international observers, were forced to leave the conflict zone. President Mahinda Rajapaksa and his inner circle wanted, it seemed, a war without witness.

The end result was the deliberate slaughter of an estimated 70,000 innocent civilians. However, many survivors, and some who died, were able to capture on camera the horrifying conclusion to the war and the cruel deprivations of the internment camps that followed. Today, through their images and testimony, Rajapaksa stands accused of war crimes.

In Sri Lanka’s Secrets experienced journalist Trevor Grant presents the shocking story of the final days of this war, alongside the photographs and eye-witness accounts of many Tamils, including Maravan, a social worker who fled to Australia by boat after being tortured by soldiers seeking his folio of photographs.

Grant also details the continuing torture and abuse of Tamils in Sri Lanka, and some national governments’ ongoing support for a regime that has abandoned any pretense of democracy. Foremost among these enthusiastic supporters has been the Government of Australia, cynically preoccupied with ‘stopping the boats’ fleeing Sri Lankan state terror. At any cost.

MR is a person who will sell his grand mother for the right rupee. Therefore I am not astonished at his latest tour. He is making use of the reciprocal protocol by visiting Vatican to do a invitation which is highly unnecessary as the Reverend indicates. MR’s ego is such he has grandiose of delusions of himself thinking that whole world revolves round him! I seriously think he needs expert help of the medical kind to understand that he is no superman.

Sri lanka is a truly blessed country , see we’ve got Asgiriya Malwatte chapter monks and this Bishop Malcom types willing to extend their support to MR at any time as long as their interests are met ( i.e car permits , release of NGO Worker from police custody ).
Pope’s visit is directly influenced by Bishop Malcom !

sorry it should be ” Cardinal Malcom Ranjith” not Bishop Malcom.

Was the visit to buy indulgences from the Pope so that Mahinda Rajapaksa will not have to suffer in hell for all his crimes?

Can you get him the attire the Pope is wearing so that he can contest the election with that attire and say how pious he is?

Of course BBS and the other Sinhala “Buddhists” will go berserk and run amok.

This stupid ruler has no brain! He is there in the appearance in the post of head of SL, with executive powers in both hands, is no less than similar to the monkey with a razor blade in hand. Thanks for the brave efforts of our military heroes by sacrificing their lives to save Sinhala, Tamil , Muslim, Burgher, Malay and all communities. Unfortunately the responsibility to lead the country in the right direction,to lead and guide the nation, has been entrusted in this monkey dressed in a national costume. KUDU, GANJA, KASIPPU, GANIKA, HORA, MERA, WANCHA, DUAHANA, MANKOLLA, MNIMARUM, PLUNDERING OF PEOPLE’S WEALTH …. were not what the heroes expected deom him then.

About the pope visit, every thing has been finalised months ago. How many messengers so far gone from SL regarding Papal Visit is not less than 20. The costs to the poorest people for this useless dramas to mislead the Vatican office is more than Rs. 1 Billion (1000 Million).

Entire world knows about what is SL today. It has been left in the lurch in all stages where foreign leaders gather. with no leader is comfortable to come and shake hand with the SL monkey-donkey. In light of this reality pope will keep a close watch and in appropriate consultation.

Rev. Cardinal Ranjith is an intelligent religious leader. I am sure he will update the situation well and inform HH to make re-schedule HH Visit towards the middle of next year to be held under a new democratic environment, may be under Mr. RW. So that all SL will be able to pay the due and deserved homage to His Holiness in a memorable tone.

“Thanks for the brave efforts of our military heroes by sacrificing their lives to save Sinhala, Tamil , Muslim, Burgher, Malay and all communities”

I think the correct sentence would have been “thanks for the brave efforts of our military heroes for sacrificing their lives to save Sinhala communities(that too, who are aligned to this barbaric regime)”

Calling them heroes is a shame for the real heroes! They killed thousands of un-armed Tamil civilians then and are still killing and raping and abducting them up to this minute away from the eyes of the world. The appropriate term for SL security forces would be “mentally sick and cruel demons”

Rajapaksa has no principles. He is now trying to exploit the Pope for his own personal advantage. His Holiness should be kept informed of the complexities of the developments within Sri Lanka in respect of the serious nature of the religious conflicts obtaining therein, the possibility of the presidential election and the attendant dangers. It is indeed highly irregular that Mahinda Rajapakse has gone to ‘extend an invitation’ to the Pope when Gotabhaya and several others have already done so, and plans for the visit are well advanced already. This is of course just another photo opportunity to show MR hob-nobbing with the great and good, and the holy. There are few places that welcome MR with open arms and there are only so many times he can keep going to China.

Is it possible that Namal will also make a visit to extend an ‘invitation’ on behalf of the young ones of our 2500-year-old civilisation?

Pope Francis is well known for his ability to suffer fools as part of the duties of his holy office. Truly a blessed man.

Don’t worry AVB, Gnanasara will do it for you. Both MR and the Pope are politicians. Both know each others’ agendas.

Don’t worry. The invitation was not a sincere one. The pope’s office is, now, finding out that Cardinal Malcolm is also part of the game.

Cardinal, to clean his hand, has stopped Sajin Kuku vase from meeting the pope. After that if the Pope come to Lanka, Sajin will care of Pope(and if necessary Cardinal too). Cardinal knows, now for pretty sure that Pope is not coming. That is why he stopped the Kudu Vase, without fearing for any repercussion. He will explain to Kings that he thought that the Pope may not come if Sajin was there.

Pope was not invited to boost Catholic votes in the election. The sole purpose of it was to down play the Wirathu’s visit. Now it is over. Nobody need the pope. That is certainly detrimental to collect the Mahavamsa Modayas’ votes.

The truth is different. Pope never had any influence in Lanka as soon as the country went into the hand of Britain.

Northeast suffered under Dutch for freedom to practice religion. They were hiding the plantain leafs inside roofs. American mission’s work did lot of influence in the North. Because of it, neither Cardinal Malcolm nor Sajin is able to influence the Tamil way of thinking. More or less, it is a mimic of Western democratic ways, with a bit of dye of Dhesa Vazhamai.

Portuguese had influence on Sinhala mass and many of the Lankan geese took their Last names from Portuguese.

In the South, all the influence the Christianity ever has had was the last names. The rest of their bags and baggage are coming only from the 1500 years old Mahavamsa influence only. In the modern day’s word, South has only and every influence from Wirathu, but nothing from Pope, irrelevant of the practitioner is Catholic or Buddhist. All the Triple Gems Lankan can see is only on the loot they go for in North from the widowed women’s Thalikodi and the Bangles.

Pope did not ask to come to Lanka. Cardinal Malcolm, who is the left hand of the King, if Sajin is right, cooked up these for the King (Lanka asked The Pope to come, to fool the protestors of Wirathu).

Leave aside the 2700 Temples in the Northeast, Cardinal never said word when Hickadduwa, Wellaweria churches were attacked; neither anything when Thambulla or Aluthgama were attacked. This (attacking the prayer places) is more of a 1500 years old Mahavamsa or Wirathu’s style rather any influence of modern day’s Catholic civilization. As Catholicism is an international religion and Catholics are in many countries as Majorities or Minorities, and as the Pope is the leader of it, he has many gives and takes with, practically all countries, in the world. But if the Pope is the water tank, Cardinal Malcolm is the tap’s valve. In Lanka the King has the key of this particular valve and any influence that can flow in to the country is opened and shut with this valve as per the need of the King. As long as Cardinal Malcolm is the Catholic leader of the country you need not worry about the Pope influence. Any amount of water can flow into the country Cardinal can vaporize it for King’s blessing for him.

And what was the de facto Chief Justice doing in a government delegation?

      0

      Damn good question Abey.

It is highly irregular but they thought that no one would notice that this happens to be a Presidential wheeze to keep the catholics (christians) onside in the months to come.

Is it because he happens to be a catholic? Or because he went to a catholic school?

I hope he went to confession before, and asked almighty God forgiveness for the many sins committed by thought and deed.

Father forgive them, for they know not what they do.

Maybe MR wants to make sure all the gods are on his side when it comes to the next Presidential elections. If Vermin Silva & his son, despite the continuous blessings from Buddhist gods, sought the blessings of the Catholic Church as well, a few years ago, why not the the President? After all, there is no such thing as an excess of heavenly blessings. As for Opus Dei, if that is the case, will have no problems with the current regime, although it would be interesting to know what the BBS have to say about a dubious, faith based University in the land of Sinhala Buddhists.

Further it is interesting to note that the Cheap Justice also went with the President to Vatican. Chief Justice is considered to be independent from the Government, but by joining the President in this trip the Cheap Justice has proved beyond doubt that Sri Lankan Cheap Justice is under the thumb of the President.

As the Writer says this visit is rather strange and therefore speculative:

    1. His Astrologers want him to be out of the Island, so this Popes visit
was the only outstanding matter to be dealt with this way.

    2. Money-laundering is involved with the CJ as witness and the
Purse- handler (SVG) in tow for the completion of a few transaction
    before ending of Presidency!!?

Elsewhere in CT, Commentators have disclosed these Assets as either
that of Hon.M.P./MEA-MM and/or jointly with MRs Comm. earned thus
    far.????????

    1. Luxury house in Chiswick, London
    2. Luxury Flat in Singapore- His third wife lives there with his
    children.
    3. His 23 room mansion in Toorak, Melbourne, in the millionaires’ row.
    4. Block of 16 apartments in Pitt Street, Sydney City Centre.
    5. He is part owner of the racehorse Black Caviar, (Australian
Thoroughbred undefeated in 25 races) with the Emir of Kuwait.
    6. He also owns a vineyard (350 Ha) in Borossa Valley, South Australia.
    7. Owns 7 helicopters and a company called Cosmos Aviation Services

You come to Sri Lanka and do GOD’S will
In the South as well as in the North
There are many people who still struggle to find their
loved ones who have gone missing in 2009 May..
Though we have forgiven everyone who are responsible
for Injustice done to us and slaughtering our loved ones
They do not forgive us …but continue to harasse us
Do not allow our children to be tempted again..and get killed
    BUT PLEASE…YOUR HOLINESS….PLEASE ..

“Could anyone be kind enough to explain this anomaly to me”
Dear Father – Most things this Govt thinks and does is totally beyond the realms of reasonable explanation. I agree with you the President, part of his family that is Catholic – and his near and dear cronies have done one more Tamasha visit at the expense of the poor public.
There is no need for the visit as the Vatican has formally announced it and you further explain the follow-up logistics placed both by GoSL and the Vatican. Even if the President was remiss in the visit why did Vatican grant such an unnecessary visit with the Holy Father. After all the latter is busy almost throughout the day – everyday.

BTW, was that indispensable holy Catholic-lover and self-claimed reincarnation of Dutu Gemunu (and even the Buddha) Kudu Mervin kept out of such a visit. The Vatican granted that notorious drug-trafficker also a Papal audience on an earlier occasion.

lets not beat around the Bush, Cardinal Malcom Ranjith (He is compromised ‘cos he has a history Child abuse) hence is being blackmailed and used as Mara’s Flunkey to get the Pope Down to spawn Publicity and help with the faltering Presidential Election campaign.

Pope is being fed misinformation by the Cardinal alias the Anti-christ
( Who in the past, shared a political Platform with Gota, attempting to con the Tenement Dwellers surrender their Lands) , otherwise which Pope in their right minds would ever consider visiting a Country where BBS reigns supreme.

Lankans of all religions wake up ,do not live in denial, must not allow Malcom Ranjith to get away with the crimes he has committed and committing even now.-Birds of a Feather get together.

I have some doubts about the honesty and integrity of Rev Malcolm Ranjith. Why did he arrange an audience with the Pope for an egoistic President who is accused of war crimes, crimes against humanity and even genocide?.This so called Reverend had nothing to say about the massacre of the innocent Tamil civilians in 2009, where some of the victims were Catholics. He never bothered to find out about some of his priests who were mutilated and others who disappeared. He never had one word to support Bishop Rayappa Joseph of Mannar and Bishop Savundranayagam of Jaffna. He is nothing but sycophant of the Rajapakse regime.
Someday he is answerable to his Maker.

As I have said repeatedly, they are all politicians. Rev Malcolm Ranjith. arranges an audience with the Pope for an egoistic President, probably in exchange for promises to curb the BBS or build a church somewhere or overlook some misdemeanor. He had nothing to say about the massacre of Tamil civilians in 2009 because these priests are politicians and probably think that they can do more to promote the Catholic church by silence in certain instances.
You would have noticed that Rev Malcolm Ranjith’s initials are also MR!

MR converted to catholic sometime back ,the first lady who is also a catholic has influenced him to convert. If he wants to remain in power has to be a Buddhist. It is like Tony Blair who became a catholic.

Is this Reverend planning his own Ministry too, like the other Reverend in Mannar?

Or is he about to join Rev Chikera?…

President can’t see the Pope without a letter from the Cardinal , Right.

And the President is accompanied by the Custodian of the Bible Belt who is a very senior Member and MP of the UNP.

Is this Reverend trying to tell his loyal listeners that the UNP Christian Faction also in this together with the President to hoodwink the Pope?….

It is quite simple to understand. One does not need to be a political guru for that. With a virtual defeat in Uva, MR sees that he cannot win the next presidential election by only getting 60 to 65 percent of Sinhala Buddhist votes. Now, he is going to secure some extra votes, such as of Christians, Hindus, and Muslims etc.
He wants to show the nation that he himself invited the pontiff to the country, and also get them believe that he is concerned about the other religious minorities in the country. It is that simple. Christians, getting the chance to see the live holly man of their religion once or ever, will definitely be grateful to him who fulfilled their wish.

Rev. Fr. Iddamalgoda, don’t you know there some boot lickers for MR. Now when you think of Rev. Cardinal Malcolm Ranjith, to how can you categorize him. Does he live up expectations of the respected position. Food for thought.

MR is a crook and a half. what else can you expect? Let us pray that the Pope will do what is right and just and not take into account this man’s visit. We have to storm heaven that God will intervene last moment like the red sea and safe his people.
