SLPP politico – Wennappuwa Pradeshiya Sabha Chairman, in a blatant violation of the Constitution, has issued a letter prohibiting Muslim vendors from using the Dankotuwa Sathi pola premises claiming it is to ‘preserve peace’ in the area.
Wennappuwa Pradeshiya Sabha Chairman K V Susantha Perera in a letter dated June 24, 2019 has imposed a temporary ban on Muslim vendors from using the weekly fair premises stating the move has been implemented to preserve ‘peace in the area’.
He notes in the letter that residents and other non-Muslim vendors have brought safety concerns before him following the Easter attacks and therefore the temporary ban has been imposed in order to prevent any tense situation.
PS Chairman’s letter seeped in racism only seems to bear security concerns against Muslim vendors and not the customers who may frequent the fair to shop from non-Muslim vendors.
